If paper thin walls and dirty rooms are your idea of a good night sleep then this 'hotel' is for you. Arrived to find an extremely basic hotel at the back of a Toby Carvery car park, with staff clearly either learning on the job or some just not destined to be in hospitality. Checking in was a mere handing over of a key and no assistance to carry all the luggage to the room. First impressions count and the 8 nights ahead of me were filled with dread. The corridor was very narrow, upon entering the room the tired paint and furnishings all shouting out neglect. The mattress was clearly well used with a V shape forming, providing a constant back pain for nights to come. Bathroom could only be described as a horror story and in desperate need of a facelift. If this description hasn't put you off yet, then hopefully finding out that bedrooms are not cleaned during your stay as 'this isn't the done thing here' when asking at reception. You can ask for fresh towels and toilet roll (yippee) to be provided, but if you're expecting a vaccum or change of sheets then you've could no chance! Twice we put the sign on the door for this basic request of a refresh of towels etc and it was ignored, leading me to visit reception to be met with a shrug of shoulders, no apology, and passing me clean towels etc for me to then take up to my room. On another occasion where the room was replenished, I came back at 9pm to find the door wide open (where it would've been open all day) where the cleaner had clearly not bothered to lock the door behind them. Thankfully nothing was taken. In regards to breakfast, I wouldn’t bother. I rang plenty ahead of the stay to inform the hotel of some dietary requires to which I was told they would be met, where then upon arrival I was presented with a takeaway box of food I couldn’t eat & again a shrug of shoulders when explaining that I couldn’t eat any of it. The only saving grace was that this was refunded after some pushing. Overall if a stay at The Shining is something you’re interested in, then this place is well up your street. With other guests banging on door late at night or sounding like an Alien is about to rupture through their throat, sleep certainly isn’t something that’s guaranteed.

As I had to get to York, I decided to book this hotel for a one night break to break up my journey. My sat nav was able to find it easily, as I'd never stayed here before. The window of my room overlooked part of the car park. During the evening, the alarm kept going on and off which was very annoying. Breakfast was the same as which I've had in the Belvedere, London, one. The receptionist apologised for the alarm, when I checked out.

There was a bedbug infestation in this hotel. The staff were very friendly, polite and helpful, but the room we were in had bedbugs. We were bitten a lot and have had to get rid of some clothes to prevent bringing bedbugs home with us. Reception were completely unsurprised by this and offered us a full refund, which hasn't come through yet.

Booked few weeks ago as an overnighter, before watching golf at The Belfry. Nice welcome from two female receptionists (Friday evening). Our room was on the first floor, overlooking the car park. Nicely aired with open windows and fan blowing. Basic rooms, clean, but in need of some updating/refurbishment. Comfy bed. Free car parking. No restaurant in site, so used Toby Carvery which is situated opposite the hotel, serving very nice food.

Hotel was very run down, towels in the room had hair and make up engrained on them. Staff members didn’t care. No resolution. Room smelt like sewage, and was boiling hot

Noisy floorboards upstairs , toilet didn’t flush poo away , shower tray didn’t empty , noisy plumbing , cold room , room was in a block behind the carvery so a little walk and up steps with luggage . Bed was uncomfortable , pillows awful . A cheap stay, and as this was a rush booking ( we booked on the day we arrived ) and I needed to be close to sick family , it was acceptable.
