Hotels in Songshan Station Area, Taipei

My wife and I recently stayed at the Amba Taipei Songshan hotel. We had a good time. Upon our arrival we entered with a lot of luggage because from Taipei we would be flying on to the Philippines for a long stay. Thankfully the very nice security guard on the ground floor offered to contact the upstairs front desk and moments later we were helped with our luggage by the very kind Michael Mao. He went beyond the call of duty in giving us personal help with our luggage and allowing us to check in earlier than usual. My wife was surprised by how large the room was and so was I. Very comfortable setup. We didn’t have a view of Taipei 101 but the other side of the building is nice as well. The only problem was that all three days of our stay, the weather was very gloomy with occasional rain. Thanks to Michael for helping with food suggestions, shopping info for my wife and great instructions on how to access the Hop On Hop Off, etc. Unfortunately, we ended up not using the Hop On/Off bus because the schedule is really not great for tourist. Availability of the bus isn’t good. Michael explained that this was mostly due to those Covid years. Perhaps in the future the Hop On/Off will be back to normal as I think most tourist around the world are used to taking advantage of it just to get a quick view of the entire city. I will say that the best form of travel around the city is definitely the subway, which is probably the easiest to use in the world. Its super clean and convenient. Also, as great as the Amba Taipei Songshan hotel is, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention something that others have made mention of and that is the breakfast. Unfortunately, its not a great selection and not very flavorful. I’m one of those people who never adds salt to my food once its cooked. With this breakfast, I was shaking the salt shaker constantly. Also, I think employees/chefs should be encouraged and allowed to be a little more improvisational, if you will. I witnessed several times where someone asked if their eggs could be cooked “sunny side up” but the chef only pointed to the sign with two choices, scrambled or omelette. Sunny side up is not hard to do and probably takes less time to make than an omelette. Also, there’s a sign that says pancakes but in front of this sign is a plate filled with waffles. I assumed that you had to ask for pancakes so when I did, the chef pointed at the waffles. That sign should be changed to waffles only or offer both, which in my opinion would be the better option. Pancakes and Waffles. The area where breakfast is served is very nice and spacious. They should really try harder to make the breakfast just as exceptional. Beyond that, I still very much recommend this hotel as a number one option. Its a great location, the city link is right across the street and the Raohe night market is not far away at all. The location of the hotel is great, there is a department store nearby called Ming Yao. Lots of familiar stores too like uniqlo, zara, h&m and starbucks in the area. train station is also close, there is also a supermarket called Carrefour and 7eleven near the hotel. Happy with their service, the front desk that assisted us is very kind and warm, the check in time is 3pm but we got in the room at 2:20 pm which was so considerate. I will not hesitate to book this hotel again if ever I will go back to Taipei.

Great service. Gym has adequate equipment for machine and free weight training, only missing a pull up and dip station. Location is great, nearby many great restaurants and shops. Staff and Concierge are exceptional and helpful in every way possible. In room coffee is limited to instant powder Nescafé packs if you’re a coffee person. Beds perfect, firm but not stiff.

The same excellent service and hospitality as the first time I was here in the late 80s when it was still the iconic Lai Lai Sheraton. Thank you for going the extra mile to make my wife’s birthday memorable with the extra arrangements. Special mention goes to Ellen and the front desk team for taking great care of us.

The train station is beside hotel,very convenient. There is convenience shop nearby also. The room is consider big! We booked a room for 3 pax, there is still large space for us to walk and put luggage. The shower and toilet bowl area is separated, so when you use toilet bowl area it is dry. A very nice design. The vanity area to dress up is very large also. Love the big space that given. Great thing about this hotel, it has Starbucks in their building! I will definitely recommend my friends & family to stay here.

We really loved the pub that is under the hotel, which had daily free beer perks if you patronised them! The beers were really refreshing and yummy! Our stay came with breakfast, which was not bad, but you wouldn't really want to have hotel breakfast every day when there is so much to eat in Taipei. We also loved the hotel concept and would totally return again! Thank you PapaWhale for being a place we want to go back to, after a long day of exploring, every day!

A budget choice for a family trip, including a breakfast buffet with a wide variety of choices. Free drinks at reception and free candies next door. Also, the hotel provides free shuttle bus service with a regular schedule to the MRT nearby. Cross the road, there is a Carrefour opening 24/7. Overall, a great location and a comfortable stay

A very well maintained hotel, clean and in good condition. It's near a night market, and has lots of other restaurants nearby. The room was spacious, stayed in a two twin room, but the beds were more like full size. I requested the beds to be put together but due to the layout of the room, they could not. There was a shower and bathtub. The rooftop also has great views of Taipei, Taipei 101, and SongShan airport and mountains in the distance. I also received two apples as welcome fruit. The hotel could use some updates (e.g. automated sinks and toilets) otherwise a very pleasant short stay.

The location is great! 5mins walking distance from subway.  It will better if they can change the shower head. The restaurant BaHo is high quality!

Though it's a historic building, the hotel is beautifully maintained and exudes a majestic charm. I loved finding historical pieces and displays around every corner. We stayed for three nights in two different rooms. The first was an economy room, which offered great value with all essentials provided, even a small bathtub, although it lacked windows. The second room was incredibly spacious, featuring a large balcony with views of lush greenery. The location, perched on a hill, might not be the most convenient, but the hotel provides frequent shuttle buses to Jian Tan station (near Shilin Market) and Yuan Shan. The shuttle ride takes about 10 minutes. On our last day, I bought their delicious winter melon cubes, which are amazing when steeped in Oolong tea—simply heavenly! Overall, it was a delightful stay, and I’d gladly return.
