Epicurean Hotel, Autograph Collection

One of the great joys of travel is finding something special you don’t expect, and the Epicurean Hotel is one of those gems. We love Marriott properties, and this one is delightful. We came to Tampa to have dinner at Bern’s Steak House, and I picked this hotel because it’s across the street. The delights started before we arrived when they upgraded us to a junior suite using a Bonvoy Suite upgrade. I let the hotel know about our special occasion, and they had a bottle of champagne and a plate of hors d’oeuvres waiting in our room. The delights continued with the helpful Tori at check-in, continuing with the beautiful ambiance, and then learning about the artist's reception in the elevator. At the artist reception, we met the manager, Shawn. He hosted an excellent reception with champagne and more hors d’oeuvres, where we met the artist WI Ching Schroeder and the hotel's art coordinator. It was a lovely surprise before our reservation at Bern’s. We are very thankful for a great visit, and I hope you get to visit soon!

The room ac made a rattling noise, we had a sound machine to cover it up but would have requested another room. Also got no housekeeping our first day, even though we put the sign on at 10:30am. We also were supposed to receive a free breakfast that was charged to our room. The new building has no atmosphere like the original so was rather generic overalll. Also the rooftop bar was closed. We have stayed before and it was excellent. Not so much this time.

I'm in the military and inquired about a long-term (6-month) stay. The management told me I'd have a microwave (didn't have one), and a mini fridge (didn't have one), and that I could self-park but still have to pay the $20 per day valet fee ($3600 for 6 months). So much for "we support the troops." I checked out after 3 days. Avoid this place if you're military ... they simply don't care.

Wow! Simply put, this hotel is amazing. It is so unique and artsy. There is a wine theme that carries throughout the hotel in little ways in the decor. From wine wallpaper to simple accents in the rooms and hallways, it is all tasteful and fun to browse at. The staff is professional and kind. The restaurants offer unique, delicious dishes and even an amazing view on the rooftop bar. The pool is nice with a decent amount of seating. There is no bar near the pool, which means you have to go through the hotel to the regular restaurant bar. Location wise, this hotel is in a great area. It is safe and has many restaurants, bars, grocery stores, shopping etc. within walking distance. The rooms are spacious, clean and modern. The bathroom and shower are large and luxurious. The room even offers a clothes steamer!

Fantastic stay! The hotel staff is very friendly and accomadating. Valet was fast and courteous. Fun hotel, nicely decorated. Beds were comfy and room coffee was excellent. Definetely go to Bern's Steakhouse across the street, it will be a remarkable experience! If you cant get a reservation, just show up 15 min before open and ask to be seated in the bar/lounge.
