The Tarbet Hotel

Excellent staff, nice hotel. Needs a little modernization

We were not staying in the hotel but called in for Sunday roast beef dinner, it was the best we have had in a restaurant in a long time! Staff all lovely and very helpful. So good we have booked for a 2 night stay with a gala dinner at Hogmany! Hope it's the same chef, as the food was amazing! Linda &Jimmy Taylor

Our loch view rooms in the original part of the hotel were perfectly fine for an overnight stay and it certainly felt like what I expect from a proper Scottish hotel. The staff were very friendly and quick to rectify their booking snafu that meant the kids beds weren't set up for us on arrival so, no biggie. Parts of the hotel were clearly run down and a bit decrepit - lots of buckets under drips etc. but our 2 loch view rooms in the original part of the hotel were both perfectly clean and the beds were very comfortable. The water pressure in the shower wasn't great and one of the bedside reading lamps was broken but those were the only minor faults with the room. For simplicity, we ate in the hotel but I can't recommend it. There wasn't anything really wrong with our meals but it was just uninspiring, frozen-reheated fare served, again by the very friendly and helpful staff. I can't comment on the breakfast as we had to leave early although, yet again, the staff were super helpful in lending us a cafetière and some paper cups so at least I could fix us a proper brew to hit the road with. I might consider staying here again because of the convenience of the location for our journey but (having read some of the other reviews) I would be careful with room choice and I probably wouldn't eat here as it stands. I hope that the hotel continues to improve.

This place is severely run down and needs major refurbishment. We pre-paid online which was big mistake without first viewing room. Were given a back room overlooking broken roof & carpark, no lake view but that is compromised by restoration works in park and waterfront. The in house restaurant allows dogs and plays continuous loud pop/rock music. We had no hot water to shower in morning and reception was not attended. The one staff member we spoke to @ check-out referred us to an email about our concerns which was never answered. Do not stay here, there are much better options nearby.

The floor in the bedroom was uneven with a slope coming down from the window towards the bed. This combined with the lined carpet made my head sore and knock my balance off. I asked for a change of room and was told there were only twin rooms available which I did not want
