Super 8 by Wyndham Thurmont

In this room, the towels were stained, the air conditioner didn't work, the shower water came out dirty for a minute and the room had a slight odor. Almost couldn't stay. Any chance you could be able to get another hotel. There is a comfort inn and a motel 6 only 20 minutes from Airy. I never had a problem with those brands. Don't want to come like a choosing beggar, I just need a clean room.

No outside lights on when we arrived after dark. Two towels provided in a room for 4 people. No shampoo/conditioner provided but a hairdryer was. No clerk around when checking out. Needs updated, but met our needs. Probably will not stay here again.

No-one on the desk to check us in, phoned the number advised but no answer then a young man appeared and was talked through the check in process by a manager who was working remotely. It looked like one of the pillows had already been used, and the towels had seen better times. The coffee maker had a used coffee bag in it, so I refused to use it and there was nothing out for breakfast when we went out at 8.45 despite being told it finished at 9.

Check-in was a bit bumpy, not to the fault of the staff as they were just working with the systems they had in place (eg. Have to page front desk for service, credit card reader issues, key encoder not working properly) and all in all was fine. In my room though I noticed an odd odor. Not quite like someone smoked in the room but like someone smoked outside and it just came off their clothes. It was still strong though. The facilities were mostly clean. Although the sheets had been stained. Not like it had been anything recent, just that they were so old it had accumulated over time. However the worst was how the window was damaged. The window pane was bent open for easy access into my room and the glass appeared to have been taped with clear duct tape.

This is quite possibly the worst hotel I have ever stayed in… I’ve visited over 30 countries around the world across all continents bar Antarctica… travelling for work and leisure. I’ve stayed in Super 8 motels before too, but this particular hotel is by far one of the worst! If it hadn’t been the only place available so close to where I needed to be I would’ve packed straight back out of the door!

So, I didn't expect much from a Super 8 and I got what I expected. Sometimes you get what you pay for. There was FREE parking & FREE WiFi. There was a heat/air unit that worked after the manager came down to the room and fiddled with it for a few minutes. As for the rest there were three small pillows on a King size bed, two practically see through towels that were much smaller than a house bath towel, no extra blanket, no "bathroom amenities" other than a bar of soap, no in-room iron or ironing board & the FREE breakfast consisted of a brown water that was similar to coffee and a kids size granola bar. To be fair, I DID ask the front desk for an iron & ironing board which they provided, so it is possible that if I asked for extra pillows, blanket, towels etc. they may have been provided also. The shower had plenty of hot water & good water pressure but the showerhead was full of mineral deposits and the tub did not drain quickly so I stood in two inches of water during the shower. A little scary was a back door to the inside of the hall of the hotel that looked like you needed a key card but was actually completely unlocked even at 10pm. The surrounding area was beautiful and within a mile are two National Parks and two State parks that have hiking trails & a visitor center.

Place was run down and in need of cleaning. A/C working but not cooling. 1 mini bar of soap for 3 people--2 towels-0 shampoo and conditioner. I thought the smell was cat urine in our room mixed with mold. I would never stay again if it was free. There isn't a breakfast and I wouldn't eat it if there was. I could go on and on.

This hotel gets an F. Do not stay there. Lobby no air conditioning, staff dirty, smelled of cigarette smoke. Leak in hallway, dirty carpet. The room was dirty, musty smelling, sheets dirty, pillows disgusting, the carpet was so dirty you had to keep your shoes on. The bathroom was horrible. Towels were like sandpaper. Needed towels for the next day and were told we don't have any. Again, do not stay there. Would like a refund.

Bathtub didn’t drain, fan in bthrm didn’t work, room old and hole place needs upgrade. There was no free breakfast unless u count coffee and tea as breakfast. Pic on website doesn’t show how rundown it is
