Absolutely appalled. We booked our apartment months ago. MONTHS. We booked through Wotif and specifically selected a 3 bedroom apartment with 2 queen beds and 2 single beds. NOWHERE on the booking page or in any fine print did it mention the bedding configuration may be different. The day before arrival I received a text message asking me to confirm my name and my bedding “request”. I immediately replied with my name, and made a point of specifying “Bedding REQUIRED: 2 queen 2 single, this is what we booked”. So let’s jump forward to check-in day. First of all, finding this place is not easy. No signs out front to let you know where to turn in, and if you miss the turn in there’s no easy way to turn around and get back to it. Ended up driving around for 10 minutes just trying to get in there to where we thought it might be. When we finally found the place, check-in was a long process with a staff member who was behaving quite unprofessionally and whilst I wouldn’t go so far as to say they made me feel uncomfortable, I can absolutely see how other guests may feel that way. After all the mucking around we were then hit with a $150 deposit on credit card. Absolutely absurd in this day and age. These ridiculous, out-dated policies are deal breakers for people travelling on a budget, which we are, so you can be sure we will not be coming back here purely based on this alone. (Hot tip for others who feel the same way: Rydges nearby will hold only $1 on your card, and Madison Plaza also very close doesn’t hold anything at all. I’m sure there’s plenty of others around too that aren’t stuck in the dark ages). Moving on. IF ONLY those were the sole issues! No such luck. So, we finally get to the apartment, and wouldn’t you know it, the bedding is wrong. Despite booking months in advance, and clarifying very clearly what bedding was required the day before, they still managed to mess it up. 3 queen beds. We are multi-generational family so obviously cannot share beds. After multiple phone calls to reception requesting a trundle bed, being told that they would normally charge for this (and promptly explaining to them that there is no way in h*** we would be paying due to this being THEIR stuff up!!!) and having the staff member mentioned earlier carrying on like an eccentric character on a soap opera telling us that we’re gonna have to come down and help carry it because it’s way too heavy for them, we told them to forget it. The end result was that our youngest (not SO young at 19 years of age) ended up having to sleep on the couch!!! We made it very clear to them that we would be requesting at least a partial refund, to which they replied “we’ll see what we can do”. Once we finally got past the bedding issue, more and more problems started popping up. Firstly, out of 3 bedrooms in this apartment, two had lamps, and only ONE of those lamps had a light bulb in it. So one working lamp in the entire apartment. Another call to reception only to be told that

From previous reviews I thought no way, well how wrong was I. Great location. Clean and large. Amazing staff. Great whistle stop for us. Our four legged mate was very welcomed. Ground floor unit. Even meet a gentleman who travels with his galah on business. Staff welcomed us both with open arms. Pool is fabulous. Price reflects older establishment but they are caring for this old girl. We would definitely stay again. Only downside was the mattresses probably need replacing but are still very comfortable, had a great sleep. Thank you Robert Town 👌👌👌

Good location, friendly at reception, clean room and comfortable bed. Just a bit tired regarding the room itself and t.v stations some worked some didn't and they went on and off, but not that big of a deal. A bit noisy around the area but I still slept well.

The staff at Rambutan are very friendly and helpful. I felt very welcome. The rooftop, poolside restaurant is fantastic with its excellent and varied selection of dishes and is so popular with the public that I found it necessary to book my favourite table on the balcony looking over the town. The wonderful staff members speak many languages. Flying up solo from the Victorian winter I was dismayed to find myself in a cramped room, looking onto a blank wall, so dark I needed the light on. I had probably ticked 'accessible' which meant all the rooms reached by the lift which all face the blank wall around the pool. I expressed my disappointment to reception and was immediately and gratefully moved to a room, up a flight of stairs but looking down onto the pool and restaurant, as pictured. The rooms are small, filled up with enormous beds so that there is no way to unpack a suitcase. I needed a comfy chair. Rambutan is well within walking distance of the passenger ferry, The Strand, Anzac Park, and the centre of the city, surrounded by restaurants, and just 2 blocks from all the shops.

lovely views and a contemporary aesthetic. lots of parking spaces. I enjoy that it's not crowded. The food was good. The Asian staff was polite and made an effort to provide a customer-focused attitude. The majority of the workers are backpackers, so they are not particularly formal—they don't smile or greet others, they just stand and talk—and the place doesn't look like a five-star hotel. There was still hair on the floor and the room was a little dusty . Nothing special, simply an overnight stay.

Initially sent to the wrong room but the desk staff sorted it. The views are great of either the ocean or marina. We had an ocean view , also overlooked the pool. The place is actually quiet considering its also a ****** and popular restaurants. The staff very friendly and helpful. We stayed 3 nights and can recommend this hotel for a couple or family stay. It's close to the strand and easy walking to lots of cafes , restaurants and the beach side walk.

GGuest UserIf you are here in Townsville, choose this one, don’t hesitate, because this one has a fully functioning air conditioner. If there is no air conditioner in Townsville, or the temperature of the air conditioner is locked, it will keep you all night. Can't sleep at night. The girl at the front desk was very enthusiastic.
GGuest UserReally amazing stay, enjoyed using the facilities (especially the gym! The only thing about the gym is that for the weight section there isn’t any type of mirror to see yourself, but overall was amazing). Also, loved the tv, and being able to look up and listen to our own type of stuff, really cool. Would definitely come here again, no doubt! Thank you Palmer!
Think twice before booking this hotel. The room I stayed in felt dated and despite arriving in summer no fan or airconditioner had been turned on for me. Reception doesn't open until 9am and closes at 5pm. Outside of these hours you need to complete an online form and wait for confirmation which only comes an hour or so before arrival (I had to ring to confirm arrangements as I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to check in). Another online form is required to be completed if check out is needed before 9am. Prior to my stay I enquired about the gym and was told the treadmill was broken. I went to use the gym to discover it wasn't accessible until 9am despite the compendium indicating gym opened from 7am-7pm (even these hours aren't convenient for business travellers). When attempting to leave my floor the lift was held up for quite awhile by trades people arriving and holding it to stack materials, they indicated on the way up they'd be holding it for another 10 minutes before it would return!
GGuest UserI had a wonderful stay at Seagulls Resort in Townsville. The resort is located in a beautiful setting, overlooking the sea and Magnetic Island. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable, with all the amenities you need. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the food is delicious. I enjoyed the two saltwater pools, the tennis court, and the playground for the kids. The resort is also close to many attractions, such as the Strand Beach, Reef HQ Aquarium, and Townsville Mini Golf and Fun Park. I would highly recommend Seagulls Resort to anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday in Townsville.
GGuest UserThe Dalrymple Motel is awful. I would not stay here at a 1/4 of the price we paid. Why? 1. There’s a very loud machine that runs all night outside the window. 2. Hotel staff sound like they are dragging dead bodies past chatting along the way, all night. 3. The windows don’t open. 4. It’s very musty. 5. The shower is made of stainless steel. 6. There’s no toaster or anything to that effect. Just some mugs, a fridge and instant coffee. 7. One teaspoon was provided for four people. 8. Kids eat free on Sundays at the pub was a redeeming feature. Over and out.
FFreeman SThe location is right on the strand of the beach. The sunset is very beautiful at dusk. It is also very convenient to go to the coffee shop to the supermarket and walk for 10 minutes. Buy all the daily necessities and sit on the terrace to watch the sunset until dusk, which is pleasing to the eyes.
As for the service, there is basically nothing except Check In. It's not like living in a hotel in the Asia-Pacific region, with five-star service
In terms of price, in terms of 1000 heads, it does not include anything. It is really because there is no choice.
AAngela HWe stayed 12 nights in a 2 bedroom unit. The unit was functional and clean, although the carpets needed shampooing or replacing - made obvious by the black on our bare feet. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen had sufficient supplies to support basic cooking. We booked directly which meant we had basic service in the room including trash pickup, midstay linen change, dish, dishwasher and laundry detergent, as well as tea and coffee. The staff were all polite, pleasant and willing to help. There are restaurants close by and a grocery store within walking distance. We walked to the harbour, ferry, and the Strand; however, those with less mobility or less time would need to take advantage of the plentiful scooters or have a vehicle. Most of the units require walking up one or 2 flights of stairs. We stayed on a 3rd floor unit which I appreciated as it meant no noise from above.
CChickababe04Both my daughter and I came from Cairns and were stranded in Townsville during the floods and we stayed at the Vale Hotel for 3 nights. We were on the first floor which was great considering the rising flood waters not far from us. the staff were friendly, accommodating and kept us in the loop regarding what was happening. Having access to the bistro at the hotel was a huge benefit due to roads to supermarkets and food outlets being cut off. We were supplied with clean and dry towels and other linen even though there were problems with the volume of guests and the amount of work the room attendants had to do. The Vale is quiet, safe and very close to Stockland's Shopping Centre, MacDonald's and a range of restaurants and cafes. the Vale Hotel was definitely the right choice under these extreme circumstances and I wish to acknowledge the incredible service, value and security afforded to us and I will make this my #1 choice during future visits to Townsville.
JJeff AMercure Townsville is a great hotel, the team are always friendly and welcome you back each time. Bobbie in the restaurant is a super star, always great to see her smiling. Rooms are clean and very comfortable. Easy parking, great pool, and excellent A/C in the rooms.
