I recently stayed at your establishment on January 27-28, and initially, I was quite impressed with the amenities, including the requirement of a room key for elevator operation, the cleanliness, comfortable beds, soft pillows, and overall safety. However, my experience was marred by a deeply concerning incident. On Sunday morning, I inadvertently overheard a conversation between a maid and a houseman, which I found profoundly disturbing. They spoke of a guest, specifically a person of color, who frequently stays at your hotel. The language used to describe this guest was not only derogatory but also ******, including the use of the N-word. It was appalling to learn that they deliberately disturbed his sleep by making excessive noise and placing him in certain rooms with the intention of causing discomfort. This matter hits close to home for me, as my brother is a truck driver who often needs undisturbed rest during his mandatory 10-hour breaks, and I have bi-racial family members. I understand the significance of a peaceful environment for these hardworking individuals. Upon leaving Paradise Lodge, I noticed a truck that matched the description of the one mentioned by your staff. Out of concern, I noted the truck’s details with the intention of informing the driver's company about his mistreatment at your hotel. I've conducted some research and discovered that the truck is associated with Messer, a company based in New Jersey. This indicates that the driver had a long journey from Vancouver, Washington, and was likely resting as required by his schedule. I have already reached out to the Vancouver location of Messer and left my contact information, expressing my concerns about the racial discrimination faced by their employee at your hotel. The racial discrimination I witnessed is unacceptable and deeply troubling. It's a stark reminder of the ongoing racial issues in our country. I can only assume that this driver, like many others, was merely a victim of unwarranted prejudice and racial bias from your staff. I have already contacted Best Western Corporate regarding this issue and am awaiting their response. My family and I have made the decision to no longer patronize this hotel and will be exploring other accommodation options in Trail in the future. We feel all people, regardless of color, should be treated with respect. What was truly ironic is the maids were minorities themselves.
