Hotels near 8EAST, Vancouver

We stayed here pre-cruise in May of 2019, this time was post-cruise. Very quick walk from Canada Place. Easy walk to Gastown (restaurants and bars). Vancouver is a big city so it's not the cleanest, and has it's share of homeless and crazies, but that was all a few blocks to the east towards Gastown; the area around the Auberge and Canada Place is very nice, and it's an easy walk along the seawall (past coffee shops and restaurants) to Stanley Park (we walked to the Aquarium, about 1.8 miles or 3km depending on your units). Close to the metro to the airport, which we used last time but this time we left too early and had to cab to the airport (around $35 Canadian). The hotel is a combination (hotel, residence, club) and the rooms are modern with all the trimmings (coffeepot, fridge, cable, stylish bathroom with boutique soaps/shampoos). Staff was very pleasant and helpful. Much nicer to stay close to the cruise terminal instead of out near the airport.

The location was perfect, and the room was quite spacious for the two of us, my teenager son and i, as we were in town for university campus visits. The beds were very comfortable, and the Starbucks in the lobby, and the mosaic restaurant served good food (for lunch). Parking was right down in the basement, and was very convenient. We parked the car there and walked around Robson avenue for shopping. Checkout was also very speedy and done online, without the need to line up.

Paradox Hotel is one of the best hotels we have stayed at in a long time. We typically stay at Four Seasons, Fairmont’s, and other hotels similar to these types of hotels. Paradox had first class service starting at the valet (Marty), along with all individuals at the front counter. To top off our stay, we had Andrew from concierges that took great care of us, as he went above and beyond for my wife’s 40th birthday celebration. -I will be writing a person letter to Andrew, for all the amazing things he did to make our stay so memorable. It’s hard to put into words the results of our trip, as all of it was amazing, from the lounge (Megan/Morgan/Vanessa were all fantastic and were extremely friendly. To the Mansion nightclub, where everyone was fantastic and provided amazing service, as we decided to get table service for the birthday celebration. If anyone is contemplating staying at the Paradox, do not think twice about booking, you will not regret it. Also, amazing walking distance to so many amazing shops and restaurants. All-in-all, we will be back to see all the amazing people we met and we look forward to our next trip to the Paradox Hotel.

My husband and I stayed one night at the Burnaby location in order to attend a dinner function nearby. We checked into our room and the heater was already on and set at 68 and seemed to be working OK. Shortly after we arrived in the room, a maintenance person knocked on the door to see how the heater was working. That should have clued us in as to what would happen next. A bit later, the unit started to spit out cooler air. I might add that the unit never cycled off and on as it should. I turned the unit up to around 72 to see if that would make a difference but no it did not. We contacted the front desk and within 5 minutes, maintenance came to check. We were told that the heater had to remain at 68, no higher or it wouldn’t work. I have never heard of such a thing. High temperature in Vancouver was mid 40's dipping into the 30's at night. By this time, it was 5:30 and we had to head out the door for the dinner event at 6PM. I wish we would have demanded a different room, because when we returned it was definitely cooler in the room. We were both tired and needed to leave the hotel early in the morning so we decided to “gut it out”. I looked for additional blankets and there were none. I wound up sleeping a total of 2 hours in my coat. This was not a comfortable experience.  I am generously giving this property 2 stars as the room itself was clean and the bedding was comfortable. The front desk clerk kindly gave us a 50% discount for our discomfort which was the best she could do, but when I contacted their HQ was offered a 50% discount off a future stay. Don't think I will take them up on that offer, but thanks anyway.

I had a really nice time at this home-sweet-home guest house in Vancouver. The house was lovely and cozy, with very clean rooms and great facilities that were just as good as those in a fancy hotel just like a 4-star hotel at a very reasonable price in Vancouver city. The owner of the house was friendly and made my stay even better. The house is in a great spot, super close to the airport and it's easy to get to downtown Vancouver. I really liked staying there. I can't wait to go back if I visit Vancouver again. It's a great place to be comfy and close to everything you. (My name is anonymized to protect my identity for this review) This review was delayed due to an ongoing police investigation about our stay here in the Versante Hotel. My wife and I booked our stay at the Versante hotel, originally from Monday, August 29th until Saturday, August 3rd. We booked the penthouse suite on the 14th floor and loved it so much that we cancelled our reservations at the Fairmont hotel, just so we can extend our stay before we go to the airport for our family trip on the 6th. What we thought was going to be one of the most relaxing stays through our hotel experience quickly turned into a nightmare at the Versante hotel. It was a betrayal of trust from the Versante hotel staff and what Versante portrayed their company’s values to be. I would like to mention there were a few notable staff members that were exceptional and compassionate, and it’s a shame that this experience would reflect poorly on the hard working individuals who really tried to make our stay memorable. What had occurred in your hotel with the staff members that you hired to take care of your guests was unbelievably heartbreaking and I do not wish for anyone to go through what my wife and I had to witness.  On Tuesday, August 30th we booked for a hot stone massage at Spa Versante and confirmed our booking for a shuttle the next day at 3:45PM. Manager Yasin was the one who had confirmed our shuttle booking for the spa the next day at 3:45PM. On Wednesday, August 31st at 315PM we received a call from our hotel room (1404) from Nini, the front desk receptionist. Nini asked to confirm if we had booked a shuttle for 330PM. We then told her it was confirmed for 345PM. She said OK and we hung up. At 345PM my wife went downstairs to meet the shuttle that we had booked the day before for my wife’s spa appointment. There was no shuttle. My wife asked the Valet who was there and he asked her for her name and said it was not ticketed. He then took my wife to the receptionist who was working at the front, named Nini, and asked about the shuttle booking. My wife informed her about her appointment at the spa and shuttle booking, which should have made it obvious to Nini that the booking was for the Versante Spa further away. Nini then told her there was no shuttle that goes to the spa and it only goes to YVR. Ultimately, Nini said my wife wasn’t booked for a shuttle. When my wife told her we had received a phone call from her (at 315PM) to confirm our shuttle, Nini had denied making any calls to our room. Nini then told my wife there wasn’t a shuttle coming and pointed at the door and told her to walk. Nini did not provide any help or resolution, she had dismissed my wife’s needs as a guest and failed to provide her with adequate information for her confirmed bookings at Versante Spa. It was only two girls working, Nini and Monica at front desk. Upon speaking in person with Nini, my wife recognized her voice on the phone. She had denied ever calling my room to confir

Our stay started off really well. Front desk staff were very friendly and let us check in early. I went to have a shower before going to the concert we were in town for and found that the tub drain was plugged and the tub not draining. I had received a txt earlier ask how the room use and to text if we need anything. So I text that the tub was are draining. I did not get a response and left the room to go out. We thought we would come back the drain being unplugged but instead came back to nothing done. We went to the front desk to ask for a plunger to try and fix ourselves as it had been 7 hours and still no response. We tried to plug the drain but it did not help. When we returned the plunger the front desk person offered us another room but being in out pj’s and it after midnight we stayed in the room. They said maintenance would be back at 7am. We went to check out at 11, still no response to txt and no maintenance person to fix tub. The desk person apologized and offered us breakfast vouchers for the restaurant. We went to the restaurant but they would only give us bacon or sausage and eggs. Being vegan and vegetarian that was not going to work. The restaurant said they could not offer anything else. We went back to the front desk and the manager wouldn’t allow the front desk person to do anything else for unless we wanted McDonald’s. Looking forward to getting home tonight to shower.

The facility is a little old. The bedside light burnt out when i was reading and the plug of the electric kettle wasn't working. Other than these small things, all was good. Shuttle service is recommendable and there are interesting restaurants within walking distance from the hotel. Tried a Chinese noodle place called ban but xian. The food was so tasty.

Room was simple and clean. The unlevel floor going into bathroom could maybe be better marked but we adapted. A portable AC unit was in our room at check in which was good since it was needed. The physical room key took some getting used to (ie not locking automatically). The cable box was precariously set on top of the wall mounted tv and it took some time to get everything hooked up correctly. We had a few minor inconveniences (we stayed multiple days and would have appreciated a place to hang two wet bath towels) but nothing egregious. The lobby snack bar is a diabetic’s nightmare but each morning there were bananas as well.

You could tell immediately how the hotel has been fairly new! Our family stayed for 2 nights and it was quite comfy. Not sure if there was anything we disliked. Just a couple of points: Restaurant option: Match Eatery & Public house And The Buffet We had a high expectation of the Buffet. Ah… so shame… Not worth paying so much. Trust me. Avoid the place. Internet: Connection is very strong; however, keep in mind that it is UNSECURED public connection. There was someone trying to access my personal email. Very fortunately, I had my email account secured with two way authentication. Do consider… to protect yourself by setting up the 2 way authentication… etc. Lastly, Swimming pool wasn’t ready to be opened until April.
