Puerto Tombo to see penguins up close and personal is a must do. Peninsular Valdes is a long tiring 2 hours plus ride each way, half of which is on rough dusty gravel roads. Penguins are a handful only. Right whales are too far way. Elephants seals are 70 to 100 yards away. Bring your powerful binoculars indeed. Don’t base yourself at Punta Piramides as some guidebooks suggest. You will be at the whale boats launch village with no shopping, couple of eateries, and nothing else.
