Checked in late to our “Superior Room” during our visit to Vienna. The room was clean and cozy just as you would expect at a Mercure hotel. But that’s where the good things ended. The next morning at about 9.30am we heard knocking on the door and it started opening. We panicked and I quickly held it preventing it from opening any further. After a couple of mins, we opened the door ourselves to check who on earth it was. Turned out it was the cleaning lady from the housekeeping staff. She even had the gall to ask us at what time were we leaving, that too at 9.30!! We informed the lady at the reception and she was apologetic but would not take any “concrete” action. That is not all, there was no dental kit in the room. We called up the reception and the lady let us know that they were out of dental kits! How do you claim to be a 4* hotel with such a lacklustre service and poor hospitality? Either way, I know that I am not going back to this hotel and would caution others too. 4/10 for me.
Mercure Grand Hotel Biedermeier Wien

We had one night in Vienna with an early flight the next morning, but not wanting to stay in an airport hotel I chose this hotel based on price and location, as it was a short walking distance to Wien Mitte, which runs plenty of trips to the airport, even at 4.30am! Also, as an Accor Gold member I thought I might get an upgrade on my room.

The first thing to say is that this is far from your typical hotel, set back from the road down an alley. If I was arriving at night time I may have been more concerned than I was. Even in daylight it took a minute or two to find the reception, but when I did I got a very good welcome by the member of staff who acknowledged my status. With our room key in hand we headed off to the elevators and climbed out at the third floor. Then we had to walk around a corner to find a small set of stairs, so up those, down a long corridor to find a sign pointing us to another set of stairs that took us up another floor. After a good bit of walking, that would be unsuitable for anyone with movement difficulties, we reached our room. We had reserved a twin room and that’s what we got, although the beds were at a right angle to each other, something I don’t remember seeing anywhere else before and were not as wide as most twin beds that you find elsewhere. The room looked quaint and I thought it was fun until I walked into the bathroom to discover that that bath and shower were also built into the eaves, meaning that standing up in the shower was a physical impossibility! I know what you’re thinking … ‘if unhappy with the room, why not go and ask to change rooms?!’ It is a good point, but the walk to and from the room, plus the fact we only ha a couple of hours to go out and see the city (added to early morning start) meant I just didn’t want to waste the time. Be assured, had we arrived in the morning, or had we been staying for more than one night there is absolutely no way I would have accepted this room. Climbing carefully into a bath to have a shower sitting down is not my idea of fun! It also would not be possible for anyone with movement difficulties to use this. As mentioned earlier, the hotel is in a decent location for Wien Mitte - roughly a ten minute walk with suitcases. A little less without. There are also quite a few eating options in the area. Sitting in the hotel courtyard area is quite relaxing, although you have no view and the sunshine is totally blocked out. I am afraid that apart from being a ‘quirky and cute’ hotel, plus the fact that all the staff we met were polite and professional, there is very little to recommend staying here. I for one will not be staying here again.

Vienna City Centre
The hotel's facilities and services are above the normal standards of chain hotels. The nearby subway and bus stations are not far away. It only takes about 20 minutes to walk to St. Stephen's Cathedral. In addition, the relatively low room rates in the nearby area are new enough. The decoration is a highly recommended accommodation. The only flaw is the air conditioning system, which only has comfort mode. It's snowing outside and the temperature is below zero. It can only be said that it's not cold indoors, but it's still far from warm and comfortable.

Right in the middle of the old centre. A wonderful location to explore Wien and beyond as the trams as just really around the corner and will easily connect you to all type of transport. The rooms I got were good size and have everything I need except for one thing, a great AC. The AC needs to be better. I got first a room with the roof as ceiling, and the AC could not help the heat wave that Vienna was experiencing that day. The lower room, was the same AC but enough to cool down the room but not really to the best temperature that I would find the best.
Hotel Mercure Raphael Wien

Mercure Hotel Raphael Wien is located in one of the most beautiful locations in Vienna. Entire hotes is ready for renovation but our biggest complaint is the cleanliness of the room. The first room we got was disgusting to say the least. The bathroom was full of hair from the previous guest. Hairs stuck to the tiles in the bathtub as well as on the toilet salt. When we went down to the reception desk to complain and demand that someone clean the bathroom, all we got was that we are “very sorry” and that we should go down to the reception desk tomorrow morning and demand that it be cleaned. Since they were not able to clean the bathroom, in the end we got another room with a clean bathroom, but there we were awaited by another surprise. Under the rags on the floor is a dirty sock, also from the previous guest. In addition to this, there was also dust on the lamps, dusty windows (in both rooms). All in all a very bad experience. The hotel definitely does not deserve four stars. The only thing is that it is in a good location about half an hour's walk from the MuseumQuarter, a few minutes from Mariahilfer Strasse.
