Hotel Mallku Cueva

This hotel was one of the best we have stayed in. It was after a full day seeing the sights on our way from Uyuni to San Pedro. The shower was perfect, the room was built - backing onto a cliff wall. It is quiet, clean and the staff are exceptionally accomodating and friendly. We could not have asked for a more perfect, unique place to stay after a full day of driving.

This hotel is in the middle of nowhere as expected when on a tour. There is absolutely nothing else there, purposely built by Hildago Tour company. Unfortunately our tour was extremely rushed. We started at 7am to beat the non-existent crowds to get to the hotel before 4pm with absolutely nothing to do or see. The tour could have been shortened by a day easily. We were so early that the manager hadn’t even arrived either day. That early the heating wasn’t on so the room was cold. There wasn’t a hairdryer so washing the hair was out of the question. It was odd that even though the hotel wasn’t full we got single beds. The weirdest thing was the bedding/doona. Basically they *have* electricity blankets that aren’t plugged in. Also these are the type of blanket you’re meant to sleep ON. But instead they had rolled the electric blanket up, then rapped that in another blanket and then sheets around it. Like a giant stiff heavy burrito on top of your body that kept sliding off the whole night. The tour includes going to a hot-spring and the guide said there would be extra towels but there wasn’t. In fact the staff seemed annoyed at this suggestion to just take them from the room. This is off as it’s all owned by Hildago Tour company. The hotel looks great and later the heating was turned on and it was cosy. The food was excellent and the staff were great as was the wine. Oh the wi-fi was great in the dining room but not in the room

Overall a delightful stay. I was here for 2 nights. The staff is excellent. The food, both breakfast and dinner was delicious. I happily ordered an extra bottle of wine, sat by the fireplace and read a book in the evening. The rooms are nice, electric blanket, hot water and great water pressure. Would recommend.

Great situation under a large rock. Bedroom was small but cosy and a really comfy and large bed. Meals were simple but plentiful and the manager was delightful and spoke really good English if you can't manage much Spanish. Really great place to stay in the middle of nowhere!
