Our family of six stayed here 7 nights and were pleased. The unit had top end finishes and appliances. Daily touch up housekeeping was included. The concierge was terrific as was the shuttle service with an Uber type app. We also found the onsite pool to be good with two hot tubs. For late departures they have a shower and changing room. The GW facilities were fully available. A good spot for families.

We stayed at three villas during our trip around the island. Ho’olei is not the most expensive, not the closest to the ocean front, but the staff service would make us come back again and again. The hard product is still a well deserving 5 star resort, but the service is well beyond expected. Staff will send personalized text messages days prior to arrival to arrange for our children’s birthdays, our nanny’s accommodations, and dinner reservations. On arrival, staff addressed my children in surnames and treated them with the upmost respect. Property offers designated pool for villa guests, shuttle services to the main resort/pool/luau. The front office even delivered printouts to my teenager working on his homework when the villa printer ran out of paper. This is the case where service speaks for its brand, and makes up for the “slightly” further away location, being about 10min walk to the oceanfront.

We rented 24-3 from PMI vacation rentals. This is a very nice 3 bed, 3 1/2 bath unit with nice furnishings. The lanai is huge with a bbq, dining and patio furniture, BUT it is directly above the main road so the noise level is high at times. No ocean view due to trees, but lovely if you can handle the traffic noise. Once inside with doors closed, it’s very peaceful. Please note that if you rent from any source other than the Grand Wailea, you may not be welcome to use the GW pools, gym, towels, etc.. They are happy to take your money at the restaurants and bars, but don’t get close to the pools, as they will sternly tell you to get away. Although you’re staying at “The Ho’olei AT the Grand Wailea” not “The Ho’olei BEHIND the Grand Wailea” the GW does NOT consider you a guest. While we were there, two of the GW pools were closed anyway and we found the pool at the Ho’olei to be beautiful, quiet and perfectly adequate.

We had an incredible week in Maui staying at the Ho'olei aligned with the Grand Wailea resort. We had #87-6, the 3BR, 3.5 BA with 3 Kings two level villa. Awesome views from the large lanai. Loved that you could open all the doors on two joining sides of the large family room area, although we never really sat as a family very long in the family room since we were on the go. The concierge and staff that supported us during the week were exceptional, a shout out to Tanya for engaging with us before our visit and during our visit to ensure a terrific week for my wife and i and our 3 adult children. Having a shuttle service using an app to go to local stores and restaurants was a terrific added bonus. Especially if we wanted a late night run down to Botero or just to walk around the GW and beach. While we only used the pool at the Villas a couple of times, they were largely empty of other folks and really nice. Having access to the GW was expected, and the GW was terrific with great staff service at the restaurants, shops, bell desk, and across the board. We love the GW's pools and beach location, not to mention the various hot tubs and slides. Did i mention the awesome Grotto Bar - nothing like taking slides with a drink in hand. We love the Wailea laid back vibe, location to the beach, access to great restaurants and bars, and above all the views of the Pacific.

We stayed at the Hoolei ,December 2022 ,we have stayed at the Hoolei 6 times prior since 2014 ,this last trip was a real disappointment the villa we had was not cleaned to usual Hoolei standards in the past ,the area rug in living room was so dirty the bottom of our feet were black from walking across the rug gross ! Our ensuite bathroom toilet run for minutes after using it making horrid noises ,the shower in the main ensuite need repairs in the handles ,which my husband did ,and the dryer only worked one 1 setting and you needed to reset that setting for 3 cycles to get a dry load. The shuttle service was down to 2 drivers great guys ,but they were so busy the waits were long at times ,not due to their trying though. The Hoolei pool was not cleaned regularly as we swam with dead bees and leaves and debris, small kids had thrown handfuls of gravel into the bottom of the pool that you stepped on when you were walking in the pool ,from what we enjoyed many times before ,was now a real disappointment, and for 4200.00 a nite ,such a let down ,we will return to Maui ,but we will not be returning to the Hoolei, it’s completely lost it’s sparkle ,it’s getting old and tired looking .

We booked a villa through the Grand Wailea. So we paid the premium price that included access to hotel amenities, housekeeping and the free shuttle. I expected luxury and that’s really not what we got. Let’s start with the villas themselves. I believe they are each individually owned. Which means you really have no idea what you’re getting into as far as decor and whether furnishings are decades old or updated. We went with family, so there were a total of 4 villas in our party. They were all extremely different. Ours had newer carpet, but the others’ were stained and lumpy. The toilet seat finishes were worn and bubbled up. Our villa had the worst smell that hit you as soon as you walked in. It smelled like cat urine, cigarettes and rotten fruit. I didn’t tell the front desk because I didn’t want them crawling all over the house while we were trying to relax on vacation. Besides, I couldn’t find the source myself and I have the nose of a bloodhound. The hotel is a Cat Sanctuary, so I’m guessing that part of the problem is that a cat got in at some point previously. I found a cigarette butt in the dryer, which probably should have been found by housekeeping before we checked in. Speaking of housekeeping; The villa was not cleaned well upon check-in. Every handle in the kitchen has sticky. I wiped down all the bathroom counters and they were pretty gross. There was a mound of caked-on soap that had been there for who knows how long. The towels and washcloths had big dark stains on them half of the time, and those are from the hotel as far as I know. One nice thing about housekeeping is that they were good about getting to us early in the day. They even did our dishes and vacuumed the entire house. The Shuttle Service is hit or miss. The drivers themselves are AMAZING. But it can take a while for them to get to you. It’s not the drivers fault. I believe they only have 2 shuttles. I think the holdup comes from entitled people who call for the shuttle and then make the drivers wait. I waited 15-20 minutes twice, 5 minutes at other times. The Grand Wailea Resort itself is beautiful! Great places to eat, lots of pools and slides, and even some lovely shops. There is a lot of remodeling going on right now, so I’m sad that I didn’t get to see it in all it’s glory. Our villa was at the very top of the hill, so it was quite a walk to get to the hotel, about 10 minutes or so. Moral of the story? If I went back to Maui, I would stay at the Grand Wailea, but not in a villa at Ho’olei. While it’s nice to have a huge house, it’s not worth the price. It should be clean and updated for $4000 at night.
