Smile Hotel Wakayama is conveniently located right beside Wakayama Castle, making it a great choice for sightseeing and exploring the area. Overall, we had a good stay and a pleasant experience. Although the hotel’s renovation and interior are slightly outdated, the room was still clean and comfortable. Considering the price and the excellent location, it is more than acceptable and offers great value for money. What truly stood out was the excellent service from the front desk staff. They were extremely friendly, helpful, and professional. We encountered a problem with our car during our stay, and the staff kindly assisted us by contacting the police and helping us handle the situation, which we really appreciated. Overall, it’s a great option if you’re looking for a budget-friendly hotel with a fantastic location and outstanding service.

If you plan to travel to Wakayama and mainly not staying inside the hotel room or mainly spend time outside, yes, it should be fine. The hotel is so old and because of that it looks dirty. Dust and mold everywhere 🤣 I stayed during Golden week in Japan which most hotels were so expensive and choose this one as it was the least expensive, it was around 13,000 per night. Overall OK, but yes, we didnt want to stay inside the room as it’s old. So if you plan to stay 1 day or you do not mind with dust and mold, it could be OK. I think regular hotel fee outside of golden week is 4-5K yen, which is make sense with this quality. Recommend only for budget travelers.

I am very satisfied with this hotel. The location is convenient, the facilities are practical, and the environment is quiet. I also had a great view from my room — I could even see Nagoya Castle. The only downsides were that there didn’t seem to be an exhaust fan in the bathroom (at least I couldn’t find one), and the soundproofing could be better as I could hear my neighbors talking on the phone. Overall, I had a very positive impression of this hotel. I would definitely stay here again next time.

Had a good time. Had a view of the Wakayama castle with my breakfast and it was gorgeous My room smelled a bit like a smokers room but that's due to age and the new smoking ban.

Very cozy and comfortable hotel. The breakfast was excellent. Completely met my expectations!

I stayed for two consecutive nights. **Facilities:** It's a budget hotel, but the facilities are complete and well-equipped. There are several vending machines in the lobby. **Cleanliness:** Very clean. If you stay for two consecutive days, it seems they don't actively clean on the second day. **Service:** The front desk staff offered service with a smile.

named "SMILE", but never seen 1 fr staffs during 8 nights stay!!! toilet is tiny!! nor recommend unless really fancy castle view day&night ~~!

Big room, bath tub, limitless amenities downstairs, great view on castle, close to the station, not many questions asked in the lobby, can bring guests and ladies, etc. Number 1 in Wakayama. Recommend!

No convenient store nearby. They refused to let us reserve parking but when we arrived, there was like only 1 other car. No amenities like facial lotion.

Breakfast is so nice! It is a good experience to enjoy your meal with the scenery :)

The location is just fine for seeing museums, it’s just for eating options (including supermarkets) that it’s a bit out of the way. Microwave and vending machines on the ground floor. It’s a good value and glad I picked this for my 3 night stay. I didn’t try the breakfast since it looked like it might be fully booked from the sign but I might have been misunderstanding what it was saying.
