Absolutely disgusted!!! Cancelled our room today at 10am when due to arrive at 3pm for a concert. Told some rooms not available! Receptionist proceeded to tell me I didn’t need to complain no empathy for the situation I was now in having to find another hotel at such late notice with an event on in the town! Hotel booked thank god but at double the price!!!! Never book with these guys unless you want the uncertainty of your room being cancelled! 😡

Final stop of 2 week tour of must see places in NE & Scotland booked 2 nights 26-27Jun24 for proximity to Kenilworth Castle & attracted by the history of the former Priory site. The dead yucca in the foyer followed by curt receptionist “No checking in until 3 o’clock” sets the tone for the whole place by the time the lack of basic amenities becomes evident all other local hotels are fully booked. We were more than happy to forfeit our prepaid second night plus breakfasts £14 per head and move on. Specifically : hot day bedroom temperature +26C AC not working, refused the room, second room not much better AC not working windows sealed one unreachable skylight open, no other choice offered. No chairs in bedroom. Limited dinner menu, chicken far from Supreme consistency of latex. Hot night little sleep. Final straw no milk available at breakfast coffee produced in a cup presumably using room sachets. This hotel is run by short stay willing students & foreign nationals with a limited command of English, no discernible management structure in place to field/action complaints & no discernible night cover to try and get a window open. We are seasoned travellers & have pitched up in quirky places throughout the world but this place does nothing for the UK hospitality sector.

Just come back from wroxall abbey for our 10 year anniversary. I got a wowcher deal for £96. I must say it was amazing and I have no idea where the bad reviews are coming from. On arrival the gentleman at reception was welcoming, the room was immaculate, prosecco on arrival, plenty amenities, room was a little warm but not unbearable, shower was amazing, the grounds are all beautifully kept and as much as there is refurbishment going on I didn't really notice, it was so quiet and exactly what was needed. All the staff were friendly and the meals were delicious, nice choices as well. The location beautiful too. Definitely going back this time will be taking the daughter. Thank you for a great stay!

Me and my partner stayed last night in room 85  The room it's was lovely. The photos show. It was way to warm air con broke  No fan provided, when asked If we knew this we could have brought one  I barely slept. Dinner waited 45 mins for our main meal. Which was cold I didn't complain as it was gone 9.30 and I was hungry. My partner had steak which was no way worth the price paid. £35 The food wasn't up to standard and was cold. After a bad night sleep I was hoping for a decent breakfast, well the tables were a mess no where to sit. We had to clear a table ourselves. Then wasn't offered a hot drink had to ask. The breakfast food was cold and very poor selection  Paid £169 through Groupon and more paid more for the dinner meal. This night was a night away from the kids. Good night sleep and good food. We got neither. Such a waste of money. I would not recommend this place to anyone and will not be returning

I hate to give this place such a terrible review because I was there for a school reunion so have a fondness for the place, but it was very disappointing. On checking in I thought there should have been a proper Reception rather than an office with a cardboard sign pointing towards it. It felt temporary so maybe it was. The young man checking me in was very pleasant and friendly and did mention that he was new but the room he sent me to was already occupied! When I went back downstairs (with my luggage and no working lift) he told me that the hotel was full but I only saw about 5 other people apart from the 11 in our group, and staff. Before he issued me with another keycard he had to go and check that the room he was about to give me was empty, which fortunately it was! The dinner was very below average and I had pasta which I honestly couldn't eat but because I was in a group I decided not to mention at the time. I think I had better when I was a pupil at the school! The staff were friendly and attentive but could have looked smarter for what should be a good hotel. Before dinner there were 3 members of kitchen staff eating their dinner at tables which were on the patio where guests sit. It looks very unprofessional to have 2 chefs and a maintenance man sitting in guest areas. One of the tables had a full ashtray which was still there when I left the next day. One of the maintenance men walked past me in the corridor carrying his plate of curry which again is just not something I should see. I felt I was perhaps in the wrong part of the hotel but there was nothing to say that. Breakfast was very disappointing. I poured a packet of cereal into a bowl and was then told there was no more milk!! I have never had a hotel run out milk, that is totally bizarre and unacceptable. The cheese had been put next to the hot food so was sweating and looked very unappetising. The whole place is very run down and doesn't look as if it should be open for business. It looks like a half finished project that has run out of money and care. The historic Wren Garden had the skeleton of a marquee erected with all the detritus of what was once a wedding just still sitting there. There were broken bits of chandelier scattered all over the ground and it looked as if the team had just dropped everything and left. The grounds need a lot of TLC and I think the whole place needs a great deal of money and expertise poured into it before it fails and has to close again. It is very very sad how such a beautiful and historic place is being so let down by the current owners/managers who clearly do not have the knowledge or experience for such a large project. Alex Polizzi would quite literally scream if she stayed there!

This hotel has the ability to be amazing, but it is seriously let down by the current incumbent! I arrived at 15:45. I was frostily checked in. The reception looked like a admin office not a guest reception. Whe checked in I was told my room was second floor but had to use the lift furthest away due to the closest lift being out of order. I was also told that if I had any issues, to call using my phone as the phone system wasn’t working. I then made my way to my room… where the quickest route was up the nearest stairs. I arrived in the room and it was an “upgraded room” with a four poster bed etc. but the air conditioning wasn’t working. I went down to advise and they said they would get an engineer to attend. This was approx 4pm. My room was also an attic room. The windows were not reachable as they were too high. The temp was at the time very hot and the room was stuffy. The need for air conditioning was required. I went out to a local restaurant around 5pm. I returned at 7pm to find the air conditioner was not working. I made multiple trips and calls to reception where the communication was poor. I wasn’t sure if they were going to g to come and check the panel or move me. I finally spoke with the receptionist to be told that the engineers left without checking the system! She then discovered that the whole hotel was without air con. They moved me to a hotter room! I said I need one with windows at least and was told that they were fully booked! I barely saw another guest and couldn’t believe I was the only person in a “full” hotel to have complained about the air con not working… The night staff were in what looked like gym/football gear… didn’t match the prestige of the building. They apologised, but nothing helped the situation. I managed to sleep albeit broken. When checking out it reiterated the poor service recieved and added that they could also do with attaching a duster to a pole and clearing up the many cobwebs visible. She laughed and said “anything else..?”…!! The breakfast was OK but was left standing by the “please wait to be seated sign” whilst servers made eye contact… no indication I could sit or that they would come to me, so I went to them asking, “can I sit anywhere?” And they said yes! Either have a sign and guide or don’t! It’s such a shame, the venue has such potential. I took pictures of flakes of paint on the stairs that had been left for easily 12hours. I walked the outside with smoking areas and the cigarette bins wet full and overflowing… clearly not cleaned in regular succession…

This was a real Fawlty Towers experience. The hotel is grand looking on the exterior and we expected the same inside. However, it has been, and is , neglected with peeling paint, stained walls and general very tired appearance. Reception attendant looked up at us when we arrived around 1 PM and her first words were"we don't check in guests until 3". No welcome, no apology just a stare that seemed to indicate she did not care whether we were there or not. She sent us to the bar for a bite to eat but there was no one working in the bar or restaurant. Dinner was better than expected but not fine service or dining experience. I would recommend waiting until they spend some big bucks to refurbish the place or try somewhere else for the present. Beautiful grounds and it all could really come to life with money, staff and commitment to fine service. It's a shame at present.

We were super excited for our stay. It was my Xmas gift and a rare gateaway from being parents. On the way in to the hotel.we thought wow, looks picturess beautiful. Some TLC needed on the pot holes. We got to checking and the que was hurrendus, everyone infront of us was moaning huffing and puffing for various reasons. However we were prepared for a delay. We got to checking. We did not catch his name on reception , he was on his phone, no appology was offer for the wait. We thought that he was rude, Lots of cobwebs and hanging cables everywhere. It felt like we are in an old hospital . Never mind, the lift sounded hurrendous on the way up, we have decided to use the stairs for any other occasion. Then got to our room. Lovely room, but it was not very well cleaned. Dust everywhere, bathroom smelled. Marks on the cushion on the bed. Cheap finish to the room . Bed was confortable and the towels were floffy. No toilettery was placed in the bathroom. Luckily housekeeping left a trolly outside our room. We got some supplies off it. The bed itself had fresh linen on. At the bar we were charged different prices each time for the same drinks. Mostly we were ignored, we saw 2 staff members sniffing a bottle .. very odd. We had a table booked in the restaurant for 7:30 pm. Within 10 minutes no duck,no chicken. We do not eat fish We had to order beef( most expensive on the menu) We had camambert for starters, came out cold with bread(not toasted) We have sent it back, our request was accomodated quickly. Took a long time to get the orders out, we gave up on ordering pudding. I must say the beef was stunning but very overpriced. Majority of staff was smily but had no idea what we were saying ( my partner is english) I could not sleep to be fair, the fire testing thing was right above the bed but there is a massive hole next to it. Kept me wondering what is going to be crawling out there. Next morning we went for breakfast, food was well cooked. Hot drinks came out by the time we finished . Not bothered with checkout as reception was not manned. There is so much potential for this place. It is a shame it was such a let down.
