Heart of England, Northampton by Marston's Inns

Poor quality food. Small serving of lukewarm soup, no butter provided with the bread. Cowboy burger was good, but small portion of fries. Breakfast took a long time from order to serve, sausage overcooked and dry, beans lukewarm.

Won’t be going again, we ordered 6 meals to all come out at the same time, 2 came out 1st followed by 2 more ten minutes later the the next 2 I had to ask someone where they was and was told they were just coming which then took a further 10 minutes to come out. All the young staff was lounging around in a corner just to the side of the bar. 1 lad had his hoody over his head and was nearly lying down on the sofa with his phone in his hand. Not a very good advertisement as you walked through the door.

Check in was quick and the service during evening meal was very pleasant and quick. The rooms are basic but very clean. Breakfast is not setup for a business person. The member of staff this morning was running late, no coffee or cereals ready to eat all food and drink needed to be ordered. I left without breakfast due to the waiting.

The first thing I noticed was the lady at check in was extremely surly, anyway I can deal with that, but that was her manner (unhelpful, short and offhand). I had not paid in advance for Breakfast, but was told I could purchase it in the morning from 0700 which is what I agreed to do. Next my evening meal was just about OK (a surf and turf), but I ordered and paid for a pudding which wasn’t available. So later the waitress came across and offered me an alternative which I took and she said the difference in price would be refunded (it wasn’t, but it was only a small amount so nothing I was too bothered about). Windows in my room were incredibly noisy and seemed to flap around with even the slightest puff of wind. My shower in the morning was initially warm, but in a very short period went cold. I wandered down for Breakfast just after 0700, the restaurant area was all locked up, no one around at all. I waited for over 30 mins, but no one arrived, this was extremely disappointing. Overall a very poor experience, very poor staff, very poor room, all in all horrible. Avoid at all costs.

Very very disappointing. 1. First pint of beer was cloudy, and tasted 'off'. Took it back to the bar, no apology, just "what else would you like". 2. The pub was very quiet no more than 8 customers, staff appeared more interested in their smart phones than staying behind the bar. 3 times we visited the bar, 3 times we waited for them to look up from their phones and come to the bar. 2. Heating was not working in one of our rooms. 3. TV when switched on, you could not change the channel. 4. We were told breakfast was served from 7.00-09.30 in the morning in the main bar area. Arrived downstairs at 7.20, everywhere was locked up, not a member of staff on site, kitchen was all locked up and in darkness. Waited until 07.55, then we had to leave for our business meeting without breakfast. Not a good start to the day. Overall shocking and needless to say would not stay here again or recommend it to any of my colleagues. I have stayed at other Marston Inns but this the worst by a country mile .......
