This hotel is in dire need of a COMPLETE renovation. The outside facade reminded me of a senior care facility. We were greeted by a very personable, professional, and courteous front desk employee ( I do not recall the name), who "upgraded" our room to a two bedroom suite after we shared the reason for our visit. The room is located on the first floor with several meeting rooms. Upon entering the space, I knew it had not been cleaned in a while as it did not smell refreshed. The curtains appeared to not have been washed in months and the bathroom fixures were old, chipped and worn. We proceeded to sanitize and wipe down surfaces. NOTE: We stayed 2 nights and did not see nor hear anyone vacuum the carpeting in the hallway, also our room was not cleaned the entire length of our stay - I was not aware of this policy until after the reservation. The one pro: location - this hotel is within close proximity to Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair, which has an abundance of restaurants, shops and entertainment venues.

My husband and I have stayed in this hotel multiple times, and the reason we keep coming back is simple: the personnel here are incredible! I’ve never experienced a more warm, congenial, professional, & welcoming group of hospitality employees. However, I’d be remiss not to make special mention of the most memorable front desk representative named David. He was the one who checked us in, and has been our point person for any concerns, and he is the main reason we feel safe, appreciated, & excited to return here. His professionalism and affable demeanor is unmatched, and I sincerely hope the management & ownership of this hotel realize the gift they have in this gentleman, and consider promoting him because his leadership & work ethic make a tangible impact on the ambiance here. Thank you, David, for the excellence, compassion, & remarkable customer service you’ve given us. We appreciate you, and your efforts are not unnoticed.

I made a reservation at this hotel where I was going to meet up with my son as he drove down to college (which we've done at least 6 times before). I called the hotel the week before and had them add his name to the reservation (as we've done many times before). When he arrived at the hotel to check in, they wouldn't allow him to check in because he is 20 (and the hotel policy for check in is evidently 21). I called and let them know I'd be meeting him but not until 11:00 pm so it would be really helpful if they let him into the room so that he didn't have to wait 8 hours. The staff were utterly rude and unhelpful and refused to allow him into the room. Given that I'm a platinum elite member with Marriott, I would have thought they might have been a little bit accommodating but they were awful to deal with. We had to cancel the room and drive a further two hours to find a more accommodating hotel. Horrendous customer service!

What a wonderful hotel! If my employer hadn't put team and I up here before, I swear that we were in a renovated mansion from the 50's r 60's. Absolutely wonderful engaging and friendly staff. Very knowledgeable about places to go eat if one of us didn't host our group during the stay. My room on this trip was almost perfect each night except for a glitch with the ice maker in the full-size refrigerator that was quickly resolved with a quick call to the desk. The living area in my room was more than a person could want in their hotel room. Plenty of space to set up my laptop and spread-out work papers if needed. Bedroom was perfect for my sleeping habits and came with plenty of pillows and extra blanket if needed. Bathroom seemed to have been recently renovated. There was still a hint of fresh paint in it. Shower was great! Pressure never changed he week I was there, and the HOT WATER was HOT and NEVER ran out. Kitchenette was almost as big as the one at home and came equipped with all the necessary cooking pots and pans, utensils to cook a four-course meal if needed. Kitchenette also came with dishwasher tablets and dish detergent and an extra roll of paper towel. Breakfast each morning was spot on offering plenty of hot and cold choices. Breakfast staff was constantly refilling the empty items, clearing tables and welcoming new diners to breakfast. The hotel bartenders may have been the best part of the weeklong stay. They were both very engaging, funny and weren't afraid to tell a good adult joke when the opportunity presented itself. By the end of the first night at the bar unwinding, they both new what beers my co-workers and I liked and usually had them waiting for us when they saw us come down the steps to the bar. Job well done Marriott and management of this Residence Inn.

Our family stayed at this property for a weekend. We chose it because we have been having good experiences at Marriott Hotels and we really loved the pictures on the website. The exterior looks more historic and quaint than many of the hotels in the area. It was the perfect vibe for our short Autumn trip. We even extended a day because we loved it so much. The hotel grounds, entrance and lobby are all lovely. We really liked our room. It was spacious for our family and we came with multiple small children. Space is important for rolling around strollers and kids not feeling cooped top when in the room. Our ground floor King room had a sliding door out to a small patio which was great to get fresh air in the evening. We enjoyed the hot breakfast. The breakfast area is very nice, and the eggs were particularly yummy and well seasoned. We were hoping there would be fresh cut fruit but that's fine. The ample seating in the beautiful dining area was wonderful, again because we're a bigger family it helped the experience immensely. Overall the stay was very nice. My only small complaint was that when we opened the sofa bed it had crumbs on it, I'm guessing from the sofa, and it not being opened and checked before our stay. And the bathroom trim was very dusty and hadn't been wiped which was surprising for the brand. The bathroom should have been spotless and it was not- there was dust and a few dead spiders in the corner. That didn't bug us (pun not-intended) the way it would have if everything else wasn't so great. The hotel overall was very clean from the halls to the laundry room which we also took advantage of. The pool is small but just fine. I would add some plants and charm to the pool room. The courtyard is fantastic, including a fire pit, bbq and beautiful paths we walked with the children, admiring the sculptures and fun trees. We loved our stay and certainly plan to return.

Decent location but since some who stay here are here longer term they get the rooms remaining and they are almost all adjoining. The adjoining rooms have “paper thin walls” in the words of the front desk attendant who said the place was full so there was no changing rooms. You can hear every word of your neighbors. Also while there I wanted to watch a late night football game in the lobby or side room allowing my wife to sleep. The desk attendant essentially made me beg to change the channel asking why I didn’t just go to my room to watch before he finally called maintenance to change the channel. That incident was after begging for water since even being Marriott gold doesn’t earn you water?! So spending $800 for 3 days doesn’t get you water or TV viewing rights except in your room. Won’t be coming back to this place and should have found a Hilton property - a way better experience.

This hotel is in need of a major refresh. When I arrived the bathroom was not clean. There was a big puddle of water on around counter of the bathroom sink, one of the hand towels had some kind of brown bugs on it and the toilet had brown water stains in the bowl. The hotel was full so switching rooms was not option. The front desk did send some one immediately to clean the bathroom. Additionally the bed was not comfortable. Lucky for us we were only staying one night. Next time I am in the area I will definitely stay somewhere else.

My second time staying here for work and am pleased to say this hotel hasn't slipped in their customer service. When you walk-in at first you might think you're in a mansion from a1940's or 1950's movie. The entire staff is friendly and engaging. Kim, the hotel manager mingles with the guests to see how their stays are going. Housekeeping was definitely on their A game. My guess is that my room had recently been renovated as there was still a faint smell of paint in the living area. Bathroom had to have been recently renovated as the vanity and shower. Shower was the highlight of my room. Plenty of hot water to shower and even more impressively was the pressure that never changed. Kitchenette was almost as big as mine at home. Full size fridge, microwave, cook top stove, pots and pans, utensils, and anything else a guest might need to prepare a gourmet meal for six if need be. Breakfast staff busted their backs to keep the area clean, the hot foods hot while attending to guests. The bartenders at the hotel bar were fantastic. Wish I could remember their names. They both had great senses of humor and had great adult jokes to tell when the time was right. Can't wait to bring my other half here for a extended get away from home and work. Job well done Marriott and hotel management.

The Handicap Room didnot have a walk in shower or enough grab bars. My husband uses a walker and could not take a shower for 6 days. We thought ADA rules meant a walk in shower. Since we are not complainers, we didnot tell the office. Now that we are home we want to warn future occupants about the situation. We also heard a dog barking for hours. We did tell the staff about the barking dog.
