Hidden gem Peaceful beautiful place to stay. Friendly and attentive staff, a great respite from the bustle of Freetown. Well with the trip. We snorkeled , swam, and paddle boarded.

We went there with my husband in November. The weather was incredibly nice. Sunny with some clouds. The guest house is right on the sandy beach but at the same in the rainforest. The owner is Greek which was a pleasant surprise. I would absolutely recommend to stay at least two nights if you are in Sierra Leone. Banana islands are vehicle free. There is no noise from the cars/motorbikes. Only you hear the rainforest and the sea. There are hammocks in the garden where you can just lie down and relax. They have cheap, middle range and high level rooms. All comes with moscito net. Ideal choice for backpackers as well. Hopefully it will become a backpackers paradise in the coming years. The breakfast and the dinner was included in the price and Adama cooked delicious food every day. I would also recommend the historical tour. We have heard some sad facts about the slavery.

We met the most travellers in one place ever in this region, we had a blast exploring together and sharing travel stories of our trips so far, we spoiled ourselves with the unexpected options of interesting activities, we had the best food -freshly caught every day-, we appreciated the kind and helpful staff, we had the best value accommodation in Sierra Leone hands down…and we ended up spending 6 days at Banana Island instead of 2 days!

We stayed for 2 nights. A boat picked us up from Kent beach to make the short crossing. Dalton's is right on the beach, surrounded by forest at the back. The accommodation is simple, a hut with a toilet and shower and mosquito nets. Breakfast and dinner was included in the price, which was incredibly reasonable. Unfortunately when I arrived I was unwell (not related to my stay!) , so didn't get to sample much food, although my travelling companions did, and said it was excellent. Fish, rice, groundnut stew, ful as well as pancakes and fruit. We enjoyed just sitting by the sea, reading, watching the guys fish, and swimming in the warm sea. We also went on a historical tour of Dublin the village behind Dalton's, and saw some of the legacies of slavery and colonialism. Necessary and sobering for western Europeans, we shouldn't forget our shameful histories. To summarise, if you are comfortable with an off grid experience (where you do feel like you're part of the forest!), don't mind travelling in a small boat, and enjoy relaxing and unwinding with good home cooked food, then we fully recommend it. I was also very grateful to the staff as they looked after me when I was unwell. They really made us feel welcome.

My husband and I had a fabulous night at Daltons on Banana Island! The boat that ferried us across was complimentary and while the waters were choppy, we felt perfectly safe. Dress appropriately as your clothing will likely get wet! Daltons is rustic and simple. The room was clean and perfectly adequate. The meals were simple but tasty. We took a tour of the Island and learned about the Portuguese and British use of the Island as a slaves holding station prior to the middle passage. All in all, we had a wonderful stay at Daltons and will go again, when are travels take us to Salone. Thank you!

I enjoyed my stay at Dalton's Guesthouse. It was both a nice location to just rest and relax as well as to do some snorkeling and hiking on the island. They arranged some good enough vegetarian options (evidently you will have much wider and better options if you are a pescatarian). They offer several activities, I took the snorkeling boat tour which was enjoyable (saw at least a dozen species and you can swim safely here heeding to the advice of the staff unlike in most of West Africa). The hiking trail across the island was enjoyable. As on many places, there is unfortunately much garbage arriving with the tides drifting in towards land but the guest house beach is clean. Be aware that the boat is simpler and you may have some water splash (cover sensitive items in waterproof bag/water protective), this is also the standard in this price range in the region. They can also help to arrange connections to Freetown or the border at a fair negotiated price. All in all this was a very good value for money. I paid less for two nights here including boat transfer, breakfast and dinner than I would for one night at a mid-range hotel in Freetown. If you are OK with a more basic hostel standard this is a very good option. There is no AC but there was a reasonable electricity (lightbulb), running water and a mosquito net (saw none during my stay). The standard is more or less what you can expect in rural Sierra Leone or Liberia outside the main cities.

Just a handful of Bungalows on a pristine secluded beach on an island. Imagine yourself and maybe a few others in paradise. While the place is simple, rustic and very small, it has everything from a delicious seafood restaurant to activities including hiking in the forest, fishing trips, snorkeling, etc...if you looking for a place away from the noise and distractions of every day life on a remote beach this is it. I had a great time and hope to visit soon again. Be sure to try the crayfish so flavorful and yummy

The best little resort in Sierra Leone and probably the nicest feeling in any place in West Africa so far. It is simple, but to the point. The atmosphere was so calm and inviting. No B*****, no fake attempts for luxury, just natural environment well kept, very friendly staff and a lot of help to explore the island. The majestic point was the trip to Turtle Islands and the whale watching of the humpbacks’ migration with the young ones. Also, very good snorkeling and I guess so many other leisure activities offered, but we needed more time…Have we mentioned the food? Then we leave one surprise to discover (only hint is that the fish is daily speared by the team of the resort for you)! Thanks to the manager Mr. Sheriff and his lovely team. We hope we can come back.
