Cosy pub/ restaurant with rooms. Nice situation. Quaint. I liked the ambience, it was nice that the antiquated old decor remained it gave the place authentic charm. Lovely outdoor garden. Easy access to Whitby and surrounding walking routes. I enjoyed the coffee and tea in our bedroom. There was a lovely platter of bread cheese and cake awaiting us on arrival

The positives about this Hotel are the food: great menu, freshly cooked dinner and breakfast. The building is clearly in need of some attention: shabby chic without the chic, and could do with a good clean. I clearly had the same room as the reviewer from August and can confirm that the coffee machine was still dirty. The mattress is knackered: maybe this the next room due for renovation.

Had a fantastic stay with my partner and our staffy girl. Food was excellent, staff were so nice to us and my girl couldn’t do enough for you. Room was clean with comfy bed and pillows. Booked to go again next year. Lovely walks, close to Whitby and Sandsend.

We booked the restaurant for an evening meal while on holiday with family for 4 people, the food was excellent, we all chose different main meals, I can highly recommend the crab and chilli linguine which was a culinary delight, one of us dislikes chilli and asked for the crab linguine without chilli which wasn't a problem, the other meals were sausage and mash and belly pork with scallops and black pudding, all the meals were excellent and the wine reasonably priced, we all had a thoroughly good evening and highly recommend this restaurant.

Called in as looked great outside and beer garden full. Ordered a pint of IPA and the bar tender went to pour it into a paper cup. Asked for it in a glass only to be told they don't serve pints outside in glasses. When I pointed out that he had just poured soft drinks into glasses for outside, he said they didn't have enough pint glasses. Oh that's alright then, I'll have half in a glass I replied. Sorry we don't serve beer in glasses outside. But you serve spirits and soft drinks in glasses for outside ? Pretty miserable all round. Don't usually leave poor reviews, but when you can't even get a pint in a glass, without a reasonable excuse the Inn obviously doesn't want my business. It's not as if it was for safety reasons as they serve spirits and soft drinks in glasses!

We have stayed at this pub several times over the years and really enjoyed the ambience. So we decided to book again with friends and hoped to replicate our previous experience. How wrong we were! We were met with unsmiling and unwelcoming staff. Like a previous reviewer, we were offered real ale in a paper cup, really!! Nothing to do with health and safety, again the excuse was that they didn’t have enough beer glasses. The rooms were tired and shabby, mould on the bathroom ceiling, sash windows again propped open with a wooden block. I ordered chicken and leek pie for my evening meal. It was covered in soggy cabbage and the pie was freezing cold on one side of the plate and hot on the other. When I sent the meal back, the chef/proprietor came to see me and seemed indignant that I had the temerity to return my food. To be fair, I was offered a refund. Next morning at breakfast, there were flies on the bread and cheese, no attempt to cover the food up. We were coldly told, 'Its summer, these things happen'. Very expensive at £140 bed and breakfast, £70 would have been nearer the mark for the experience we had. Our experience warranted zero stars, if that had been possible and it totally spoiled our experience in what is a lovely part of North Yorkshire.

We arrived quite late Saturday evening, we were bought this stay as a gift for Christmas through buy a gift, we did actually pay an extra £100 for a more luxury stay. The outside of the pub is lovely, beer garden and outdoor bar looks appealing (we didn’t actually eat or drink here due to just using it as a base as we spent most of our time in Whitby) The restaurant itself didn’t look overally appealing and wouldn’t of been somewhere we’d of chosen to eat. The room was slightly disappointing considering we did pay extra for something better. Lots of dust and cobwebs, mould on the window frame and on the cushions of the window seat. Bits of paint chipped off the walls, the whole room could just do with an uplift. No kettle just a coffee machine (I think you could get hot water from this however I didn’t use it) We had a shower in our bathroom which the shower tray that you stand on was all cracked and looked like it had been attempted to be repaired (not great) It was fine for what we needed, we slept well and the bed was clean but unfortunately it’s not somewhere we would return to.

I stayed at the hotel for one night but would not repeat the experience unfortunately. As soon as I followed the staff member upstairs to find my room my heart dropped. The stairs and corridors are extremely run down and in dire need of decorating. The door to my room needed repainting and didn't give me a good impression of what my room would be like. Sadly things didn't improve. My bedroom was grubby and certainly needed a good spring clean. The sash window was propped open with a piece of wood which is certainly a health and safety issue. A piece of cheese and homemade bread was left in the room under a china cover but not knowing how long it had been there I didn't fancy eating it! The coffee machine, provided instead of a kettle, needed a clean and wasn't the best for making tea. The evening meal was ok but nothing special. I would not recommend a nights stay here.
