We visited the pub today on the way back to our cottage and had the Sunday lunch, the food, portions, quality of the food was amazing one of the best Sunday lunches we have ever had. The lady and the staff were very friendly and made us and our Collie Blue really welcome and Blue enjoyed his treats, we would highly recommend anyone to visit and enjoy the home made food, thank you again.. Ian, Julie, Hannah & Blue..😊👍

It’s just not good enough for the price. As much as the landlord was nice, the price was way too high for the standard of accommodation, breakfast and service. Mold in the bathroom did not compensate for the new carpet. Evening meal was really poor for the money as well. The bar was ok and the locals friendly. It’s a big no from me I’m afraid.

Very good location for visiting North Yorks Moors Railway and near direct railway line to Whitby. Good base also for exploring North York Moors generally. a nice local country pub. Room was very clean and comfortable with well stocked coffee and tea. Food was very good and if any problems these were quickly resolved. The hosts and other staff were very friendly and amenable. A lovely place to stay.

On the plus side, best beer (Legend) I had on my N Yorks Moors walking trip. And great location in beautiful area, perfect for getting train back to Darlington. But the rooms are basic, the food including breakfast (a sixties throwback) average. And the ‘welcome’ we received was… let’s say quirky. But generally the staff were friendly.

Convenient if you need to stay in the area on Coast to Coast walk but disappointing for the £120 price for the room for B and B. Room and public areas tired and needing refurbishment. En-suite small and again needed an upgrade though clean. Room was fairly clean but needs a deep clean in the corners. Shower though small was hot and powerful. Food was the main disappointment. We both chose fish and chips based on previous reviews but it was very greasy, we both left half the batter. Breakfast virtually inedible with poor quality ingredients. Would have minded less if the room price had reflected the condition. To be balanced, the hosts were friendly and helpful and it’s a great location.

We were staying here as our last stop before the end of the coast to coast walk. We were welcomed and showed to our room. Very friendly staff and the pub had a decent atmosphere. The room was adequate for our purpose, but I wouldn’t bring the missus for a romantic night away. The door didn’t lock. However we felt comfortable enough to leave it without mentioning. Downstairs they have a decent menu. I wish I had the fish n chips as it looked amazing but my curry didn’t really deliver. Beds were comfortable, shower was decent and I can’t really complain too much. Breakfast wasn’t fantastic but it filled us with the energy we needed to complete the task ahead. Decent place for C2C walkers. But I’d head into Richmond or somewhere else for a romantic night away.

Poor food. Breakfast was mostly inedible. Supper tasteless. Curry was not worth the name. Although clean it was far too expensive for the accommodation provided (£120 for one person). Bedroom door did not lock. Ladies were nice and welcoming.
