I'd like to note that afternoon tea is in a room with very low sofas and lower tables that sit just below your knee. If you have any back or knee problems, you have to contact them beforehand as they are not accommodating on the day. We were made to feel as though our suggestion to move to a marginally higher sofa/table was obscure and too much. We became a spectacle during our tea, being interrupted by up to 6 separate staff, under the guise of ”making sure everything was okay”. It was obvious we were being spoken about amongst staff and very unprofessional to behave like this. It made us uncomfortable and put us in an upsetting position, because we did not want to have to address the attempt of a demeaning string of actions on my mother's birthday. The manager was condescending and any sorry received was disingenuous, as it was followed with an excuse. The minute saving grace was the food and tea. I had attended here in June for afternoon tea and had a pleasant experience with attentive and intuitive staff. I am unsure of what has changed since then, but will not return due to the uncomfortable atmosphere of feeling unwelcome and singled out. I note that there are better, more structured establishments for afternoon tea that have provided a more refined experience for me in the past.
