We loved our stay at the Fife And Drum inn. The room had loads of character and was well thought out and very functional. Bed was supremely comfortable. I love having a thermostat in the room so you can personalize the temperature. We were greeted by Ashley and given a full rundown of all the amenities available as well as recommendations for nearby restaurants. She could not have been more professional, pleasant, or helpful. A list of very detailed instructions were provided before our stay making our stay a stress free and enjoyable experience. You are right in the center of the action of Williamsburg. Parking was extremely easy by entering the garage on Henry Street. The garage is located right behind the hotel. Parking is free! A rare find these days. There are a few spots across the street behind ‘The Barkery’, but I preferred the parking garage as it protected our car, which was packed for our continuing onto the Outer Banks, from the glaring sun. I can’t recommend this hotel, highly enough!

July 2023 Vacation Stay: 5 days/4 nights Good Stuff • The hotel inside and out is very clean and landscaped beautifully. No litter, lots of flowers and fauna. Very good appearance. Two pools, one inside, one outside, and a hot tub. Convenient parking and lots of it. Attentive front desk folks. I felt safe here. • The breakfast was always top notch. Very good. Coffee available 24/7 from the lobby. Very clean and nice exercise room. This bears repeating because it’s important to me: The breakfast was always great. • The room A/C was very good. Outside, it was 93°, room temp was a nice 70° • Our room had plenty of towels in the bathroom. There was also an iron and ironing board for use in the room. • Available: Room Service. This is rare. Bad Stuff • OMG. The hotel temperature outside of our room was in the 90°s. This was INside, not outside! Breakfast room included, at 8am. No building A/C. What? Try eating breakfast at 7am when it’s 90° - terrible. This was every day, all week. This single thing would prevent me from every going back there. • NO room mini fridge, no room microwave. I have never stayed at a Hampton Inn without both or either one. I just expect it. What? This was almost a deal breaker, but fortunately we got through 5 days with a cooler and lots of ice. So noted – the 3rd floor ice machine never failed. • The bathroom sink needed to be running a FULL 5-10 minutes or MORE in order to start some hot water. No kidding. The shower did not seem to have this problem. Very inconvenient. Also, about the bathroom, there was no air vent/fan. When you took a shower, the steam just collected – no where to escape. I have also found this same thing at other Hampton Inns. I just don’t understand why there is no way to suck out the hot, humid air. • This is just me I guess, but the showers only had large bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash for all guests to use, glued to the shower wall. Nope, not for me. I prefer my own personal bar soap and shampoo instead of sharing with everybody. • No daily housekeeping service. This is the new Hampton/Hilton policy. The maids cleaned and tidied rooms every 5 days. We could call the front desk if we needed fresh towels, but otherwise, nope. I guess this is signs of the times. I could excuse housekeeping every other day, or even every third day, but not a full five days there. To me, this is just not acceptable. No housekeeping - at all - period. Conclusion • Clearly, this was the worst Hampton experience I’ve ever had. Knowing what I know now, I would not have picked this hotel, with so many other choices in the immediate area. • Out of 10, I would score this Hampton a 3 or 4.

Great place to stay. Everything was clean. The bed was comfortable. So many places to eat nearby. People at the desk were very nice and helpful. Could not hear any noise next door or above and was able to sleep good.

Childhood friends got together for a much needed reunion. We all 3 loved our stay at this Hampton Inn. The hotel was very clean and our rooms were both clean and well appointed. The beds were very comfortable. The morning breakfast was good as far as hotel breakfast goes and the staff worked very hard to keep it stocked and to keep tables clean. Saturday was extremely busy and they did a wonderful job of keeping everything stocked. My only complaint about the breakfast was that the toasters didn’t work very well. The hotel is very centrally located to Colonial Williamsburg and quite a few nice restaurants. I highly recommend this hotel.

This is probably our 5 or 6th stay here and have never had a bad unit yet. We usually get a two bedroom upstairs unit and this time we got a one bedroom unit. The only downside to the one bedroom is there was not balcony, which in the past with the two bedroom upstairs unit we'd have a nice balcony to sit on for our morning coffee or evening beverage. Even so, the Powhatan does not disappoint. I love having the pools, one side for adults and one side for those under age 18. Having no young children these days I do appreciate the quieter side and its nice to hear the kiddies having fun on the other side. We arrived after 8pm so there was no sales pressure. So my tip is: if you don't want the sales pitch just come in a little later and you'll miss that and the lines to check in. Although I have to say in the past when we've checked in early it was never a problem. Check-in has always been pretty fast and when I said I wasn't interested in the presentation they were respectful. I love this resort and we'll be staying here again.

If the breakfast had been up to par, this hotel would have been a 5. From the time we walked in we were greeted warmly. A request for a room change was happily granted to accommodate a different bed arrangement. The young woman at the desk (Bernadette) was kind and so helpful. Each time we entered or exited the hotel she spoke to us, asking about our day and if she could help with anything. I've never been made to feel so welcomed! This is a newer hotel. The room was spacious, clean and had everything we needed after long days at the park. The only shortcoming was breakfast. Unfortunately, help was an issue here. The breakfast was slow to come out and be refilled. The selections were fewer than at most HI Express and lacking in quality and quantity. Guests were standing to wait for coffee and hot water as well as food. However, the bright spot was a young man named DIVINE. He definitely lives up to his name. He was handling EVERYTHING! The desk, housekeeping issues, and helping with breakfast. He did it with enthusiasm, courtesy, and a positive attitude. I'm giving the hotel a pass on this breakfast experience this time (due to the crazy times of no available help) and would definitely make them my first choice for my next visit. And for goodness sake - please bring back the original cinnamon rolls! :)

SShigangSend the kids to school and come to Williamsburg. The location of the hotel is good, and the room size is relatively large. Winter is the off-season, the house price is still cheap, and the service is also very good.
GGuest UserWe always stay at Greensprings Plantation when visiting Williamsburg. The unit we had this time was recently renovated with a beautiful blue/green palate. The kitchen and bathrooms were new as well. The unit was spacious and had a nice deck overlooking trees and the golf course. Check in was very easy and the staff was friendly. Greensprings is conveniently located near Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown. There was a Target and Starbucks right down the road as well as other restaurants. Note that a car is a must. We especially liked the proximity to the Williamsburg National Golf course that surrounds the property.
**Extremely Disappointing Experience with Great Wolf Lodge – Lack of Customer Service and Unjust Charges** I received a promotional email on August 3rd offering a special rate of $84 per night at Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg, VA, through their Voyager Rewards program. Excited to plan a birthday trip for my kids, I booked the Majestic Bear Suite for August 4th-6th with a breakfast package. The total cost was $370, and I paid a deposit of $252. However, immediately after booking, I received a confirmation for the wrong dates (August 26th-27th). I called customer service right away and was told there were system outages due to a storm, and I’d be contacted later. When I had to followed up later that night, I was told the room I booked wasn’t available, despite it still showing as available on their website. I was advised to call back the next day to speak with a manager. On August 4th, after speaking to another representative, I was told my reservation was fixed, and we could check in later that day. However, no one informed me that the price had now doubled. I had even reached out again to adjust the reservation to remove one child, unaware that I was speaking with the guest services ”manager”, LeAnne at that time. We arrived at the resort at 11:01 PM, only to be informed by LeAnne that I had an unpaid ”bad debt” from a previous stay at a different location, which had to be paid before I could check in. LeAnne then loudly and unprofessionally labeled me a ”blacklisted customer” multiple times in front of other guests, humiliating me and my family. Despite providing correct personal information that didn’t match what was linked to the supposed debt, I was left with no choice but to pay it, just to get my children to bed. By this point, it was nearly midnight, and the charges had mysteriously increased to $752, far beyond the original booking price. When I realized the significant overcharge, I immediately requested to cancel the reservation. LeAnn dismissed my concerns, laughed at me, and told me nothing would be done about my complaint because “people like her there.” She processed my refund but informed me that I was now “blacklisted” from the resort due to my actions. I was forced to find last-minute accommodations at 1 AM, costing me an additional $500. From August 5th to August 20th, I made several attempts to contact customer service and management to resolve this situation. Despite being given reference numbers and assurances that my concerns would be addressed, no action was taken. On August 22nd, I finally spoke to the assistant GM, Jess, who acknowledged the issue but offered nothing more than a half-hearted acknowledgement of the humiliating experience. He also failed to provide any documentation to justify the $149.99 “bad debt” charge, which neither I nor the Williamsburg location had any record of. The lack of transparency, unprofessional behavior from management, and unjustified charges have left me deeply disappointed and out
GGuest UserI've never dealt with anything like this before. Checked in Friday. No parking spots available. Front desk person was advising guests to park in the fire lane. Construction debris, containers and equipment in parking lot. Construction workers drinking(partying) in parking lot. Stairwells full of construction tools and hotel furniture. Translucent paper was taped over our room windows which didn't block parking lot and sign lighting from outside. Elevator stopped working and maintenance person had to prop door open to maintenance area so that the elevator equipment wouldn't overheat because it wasn't cooled properly. Shower did not work Saturday morning. Informed front desk. Returned Saturday afternoon and shower had not been repaired. Front desk person came to room and verified not working. Said he would contact me for a resolution. Never did. Left early Sunday morning and told front desk that the shower issue was never resolved and I would not be paying. Credited our card for the full amount. Later charged my card for a different amount. We were there for a soccer tournament. Not being able to shower at all and get restful sleep was a huge problem.
GGuest UserMe and my husband stayed here for two nights in February 2021. It’s in a great location close to Historic Williamsburg, Busch Gardens, Jamestown and Merchant Square. Was very affordable and had a nice pool and a hot tub. There is a Mexican restaurant, Chinese Buffett, Cracker Barrel and more all within walking distance. Would definitely stay again. Shout out to Yolanda at the front desk for being helpful and funny.
GGuest UserAfter reading some of the reviews, I was a little leery of what I would find when I arrived, but I was pleasantly surprised. Our room was nice and clean. The beds were very high off the floor but super comfortable. It was obvious there had been some recent renovations and the furniture was current and nice. I would recommend this place and plan to stay again. Everyone there was super friendly.
GGuest UserPersonal in front desk very friendly
Room very dirty, kitchen, bathroom curtain, door
Floors dirty, elevator and hallways
The most disgusting thing was the smoking smell
My doughters and I we not happy in there honestly
CCynthiaThe facility and staff were top notch as usual. This is not my first time staying and it won’t be my last. Very convenient to Water Country and Busch Gardens along with Targets right across the street. 5/5
HHeath WillardWas a beautiful facility in its time. Wonderful and friendly staff. Wish there was more for breakfast, and all the amenities were functioning correctly. Otherwise clean rooms and pleasant accommodations. We will stay again.we had Christmas there and it felt very much like home away from home. Our kids in front on Christmas Eve.
KKarenOld hotel. Needs updating but that would enlist as tearing down and rebuilding. Can’t hiide with paint anymore. Our room had roof water damage. Hot water and pressure great and bed were very comfortable.
