Oh dear. This was a regular pub we used to visit when the family were all together, so not visited since 2013. It has been ruined by present landlord/landlady. They no longer sell English real ale, but nasty American style stuff. The only good thing on our visit was our food. The Sunday roast was good. The service was a bit slow. Overall we would never return.

This pub with rooms above is a great place to stay. Walking distance into the town centre. The rooms are well decorated and very comfortable. I have stayed here 2 years in a row when we go to a festival in the fields literally opposite the pub. The staff are very friendly. Food a lovely but a bit pricy and the drinks are good pub prices. I will definitely be staying here again.

Lovely stay at this pub. Excellent bar and we were able to take advantage of spacious garden area for meal on first evening. Dinner was good and service efficient and pleasant. Room was clean and comfortable. Be aware breakfast is served in room. No problem for us- more time for visits to tourist sites! We will certainly be back

A birthday celebration for four adults, two with dietary requirements. The menu indicated in the most part gluten free and vegan options. The pub was busy but not full , however service was slow and on more than one occasion we had to call for service. That said the decor and general ambience were pleasant enough*.The food also was enjoyed by most of the party. However, the steak and kidney pudding had been over cooked and a bit hard in places.* The only reason for the one star rating was the antics of a dreadful pair at the end of the bar , who for the duration of our stay were arguing in a loud drunken way. They used expletives continuously at the top of their voices. The barman merely said that the man was' Australian ' when we asked if they could be made to shut up! The manager needed to take control and tell them to shut up or preferably leave. An otherwise pleasant evening ruined by something that could have been dealt with.

This traditional pub is located a short distance from the railway station. It is clean with a nice wooden decor. The atmosphere is cosy and welcoming. It is not loud and has a good vibe. The staff are friendly and give you a sense of meeting friends. The service is quick and attentive. The drinks are good with a wide selection available. The food is plentiful and well-cooked. A perfect pub for socialising and enjoying a wonderful experience.

We had a really enjoyable stay here whilst attending the national hospital radio conference at the University. We were impressed from the very start, the pub is in such a lovely, pretty area and looks charming from the outside. We had a warm welcome despite our arrival being in the middle of a busy Friday night it was no trouble at all. The room was absolutely wonderful and beyond my expectations for a pub. Lovely, cosy decor and the bed was even comfier than a Premier inn and that's saying something!! Lovely touch to have good quality biscuits, tea and coffee on hand and my partner really enjoyed the granola. The bathroom was lovely and clean and a great size, with a lovely powerful shower. Despite some other reviews we were really surprised at how quiet the room was. We are night owls anyways and stayed out until after last orders. It soon quietens down after that so we had two great sleeps. The staff are an absolute credit, making us feel at home and were really friendly and great to have a laugh with. We had two lovely meals as well and some great wines and Thatchers which was very well kept. Pies are awesome and the Sunday roast was something else. 👌 Yes it's not cheap but you certainly get great quality for the price which is appreciated. We would love to come back to Winchester to explore some more and will be sure to stay here again. Thank you. 😊

Came for a few drinks and a meal. Lovely cosy, traditional pub. Staff really friendly and welcoming. Good selection of real ales and a nice French merlot. Good food at reasonable prices. Highly recommended if you're in the area.

Laying in a comfy clean bed, after a lovely day in Winchester but unable to sleep at midnight because we can hear every word, every step of making tea and all with the tv on, in the next room. Definitely not peaceful so we are very disappointed and obviously not as lively as the people in the next room!!

Very good lunch, a welcoming pub that has the feel of a 'local' but also friendly to 'outsiders', seemed a good mix of ages, families, friends and most especially dogs that like this pub. Very busy when we went (booked beforehand) but never had feeling of being rushed, they seemed to accommodate everyone, the children were convinced it was a filming location for Harry Potter but it just had that look about it..it was the sort of place that if Hagrid popped out the gents noone would have batted a eye.
