Where do I start? Licuana Lodge is an oasis in the rainforest. John & Guilherme were wonderful & informative hosts. They had a wonderful variety of selections for breakfast, including home cooked bread & home made jam. Our bacon & eggs were delicious. The gardens are beautiful & so is the well hidden pool with its waterfall. Beds were very comfortable to sleep in & the water in the shower had good pressure. This is a wonderful place of tranquility & would not hesitate to come back. Especially as I missed seeing the cassowary so I am on a mission since my husband did see it.
Response from Property: Hello R and D! Thanks a lot for the lovely review. We loved hosting you and hope that you will get to tick the cassowary box sometime in the future! Stay well and have a safe rest of the trip down South.

I booked this place due to the excellent reviews, and the high number of reviews from people seeing Cassowaries, and it certainly did not disappoint! The hosts had only been at the place since earlier in the year, but you wouldn't know. They were friendly, helpful and great hosts. You have breakfast on the verandah of the main house and it was gorgeous, served with homemade breads, jams etc, delish. The rooms themselves are comfortable, but fairly basic, whilst still having what you needed, including a fridge and they were lovely and clean. The gardens are absolutely stunning and attract a variety of birds, the main ones being the Cassowary. We were lucky enough to see them on the two mornings we were there. The first morning a male and chick, the second morning started with a male and chick, then two more, probably males appeared and finally a huge female who chased them all bellowing as she went! After a while the male and the chick walked back through the gardens and then our host called us to say they were behind our rooms and there were the two other males! What an amazing morning! We recommend you having a drive around the houses nearby, we were lucky enough to see lots of kangaroos and also a kingfisher sat on someone's fence. Even without our fantastic sightings we would have enjoyed our stay and can only highly recommend!
Response from Property: Hello M&G, we do remember those encounters! This is what followed: Doris, Garrett's chick, started coming all by herself one week after your departure. Dad kept showing up for a bit too, but separately, and another week afterwards he stopped showing up at all. Doris kept coming for another month until she probably found a territory of her own and Garrett is still seen around the neighbourhood, but no longer pushing the boundaries so much. As for Charly, the local male, he vanished completely just two days after you left. Only Chica, the local female, kept coming. That lasted for 50 days while we kept crossing fingers for Charly to be sitting on some eggs. After some worry he showed up again the 58th day, but without any chicks, so we have no idea what kept him away. Funnily enough, now it's Chica who comes by less often, but we still see them regularly. Anyway, we thought you'd like to know what was going on with the cassowaries :) Thank you very much for the review and the kind words and we hope that the rest of the journey was very pleasant and full of exciting things. Kind regards, J&G.

We just had the most wonderful time at Licuala Lodge. This beautiful B&B is very green and lush situated in the middle of a rainforest. The beach is only a 15 minutes walk away. Every morning the cassowary visit the garden, they are such beautiful creatures. The owners John and Guillem are so lovely and helpful. They gave us advise on what to do and where to have dinner in the area. It was raining when we arrivered, but we didn’t mind because our King room with own patio was just the perfect place to relax, all very fresh and clean. The spacious bathroom with rainshower is great, you just don’t want to leave. There is a communal lounge and kitchen and also a bbq to prepare your own food. Dirty clothes can be washed in the laundry room. Breakfast is the best, we had some homemade bread with cheese and jam. And the fruitbowl and homemade coconut cake are so fresh and tasteful. We also ordered some extra toast with avocado smash and poached eggs and we felt as if we were having breakfast in a Michelin Star restaurant. Would highly recommend staying at Licuala Lodge. Don’t think you will find another place where the hosts are more friendly, the rooms are this clean and the breakfast is so good and tasteful.
Response from Property: Hello Daphne, glad to hear from you both. Many many thanks for all the praise, it gives us a lot of energy, specially John had a huge ego boost about the poached eggs! The rain hasn't washed away your town name from the signpost yet :) Enjoy life and maybe see you again.

The room was very comfortable and clean, our hosts were extremely friendly and sharing the experiences and maps of the area. Breakfast was absolutely delicious with home made bread jams and the mixed fruits were just delicious. The gardens are so tropical and green, and a short stroll brings you to the pool and the cassowaries just wandering the topping on the cake. Our three day stay was divine Thank you so much
Response from Property: Hello and thank you for the lovely review, it was a real pleasure having you both with us!

This has been one of the most amazing experiences of my life - Licuala Lodge is a little slice of Heaven on Earth! Jon and Guillermo are fabulous hosts! Breakfast was amazing, and the highlight was the Cassowary. I will definitely return to Queensland someday just to come stay here. Cheers heaps!
Response from Property: Thanks a lot for your review, we hope you got to spot the Victoria riflebird during the next leg of your trip!

This place is a gem and we would recommend it to anyone travelling to Mission Beach! The owners are the most lovely people. They prepared a handmade breakfast for us each morning. On arrival they kindly organised transport from the bus terminal and even brought us back upon departure. The rooms are amazing with a ceiling fan, large bathroom and a small fridge. There is no AC, but despite the heat in December it was enough. The whole lodge is decorated thoughtfully and kept in great shape. However, the absolute highlight is the wildlife. We saw a cassowary passing through during our breakfast, beautiful red dragonflies I'm the garden all day round, and a padmelon in the rainforest next to the garden. While a car is definitely preferable in the wide spread mission beach area, we were fine without. It possible to walk to the beach and restaurants in Wongaling within 20 minutes. Next to the large street is a broad footpath such that walking is safe as well. TL;DR Would recommend this lodge to anyone!
Response from Property: Hello and thanks for your thorough and kind review! We hope you are having fun on your way back. You've got Cairns pending, so maybe see you in your next trip up, you'll be more than welcome!

Jean and partner had only taken over Licuala lodge a month ago but I have no doubt will make a real go of it. They provided a great service, excellent breakfasts, clean en-suite room and good local knowledge. We really enjoyed our stay and mission beach was a good place to break the journey between Magnetic Island and The Daintree area. The gardens and pool were also really attractive and we spotted a couple of cassowaries. Good to stay somewhere independent with real charm.

We had the best time at Licuala Lodge. Dawn and Blair were fantastic hosts and really looked after us. The breakfast was delicious and generous and our room was really comfortable with a great view across the beautiful garden from the balcony. The highlight of course was seeing the visiting cassowaries - out of this world! Highly recommended! Mission Beach is a great place to hang out for a while.

Lovely place to stay for a few nights. Great hosts - more like staying with friends. Super breakfast - gluten free if you tell them in advance. Lots of advise on where to go in the area. Communal kitchen and dining space very useful - we got a takeaway one night, cooked in another. The cassowaries walking straight out of the rainforest into the grounds were amazing, very special.

Booked here for just one night to breakup the long drive down the East Coast. Set back from the beachfront you can walk, but we preferred to drive. We were made extremely welcome. Great hosts. The accomadation was just what we needed for the overnight stop. Able to park our car under our room. The rooms have several fans, not air con, but this wasn't an issue despite the heat outside. Queen double beds and a very good shower etc in the room. WiFi very good which was a bonus after the quality of WiFi weekend elsewhere. The pool is an interesting design and well worth a dip. Great continental breakfast and our hosts had loads of information about the area. Thanks.
Response from Property: Hi Ian, Many thanks for your review, it was a pleasure to host you and we are very happy you enjoyed your stay. We hope the rest of your very long drive went well. All the best, Dawn & Blair

Return visit after 20 odd years and still a fantastic place to stay. Super friendly host (would be though, been northern gal). Well kept gardens and a fantastic health breakfast. Our stay topped off with a visit from a local bird too. Thanks.

Without doubt the best B&B we have stayed at during our 6-week travel in Australia. We were impressed with the clean & cosy room, wonderful garden surroundings and the best hosts you can wish for! Blair and Dawn looked after us with recommended walks in the Artherton Tablelands, nearby restaurants and local knowledge about the wildlife crossing by in their garden. We were lucky to see Gerald the Cassowary that wandered through the garden in the late afternoon. Breakfast on the balcony with local fresh fruit was magical! We can’t speak highly enough of Licuala Lodge and its owners. Highly recommended for a beautiful stay in natural surroundings.

This is a lovely and relaxing establishment set in immaculately maintained grounds. It is very comfortable with lots of thoughtful touches. Dawn and Blair could not be more accommodating hosts. It's a great base to explore the mission beach area.

Spent only a night at the Lodge and wished we could have stayed longer. Lovely hosts, comfortable, large rooms, nicely located in the forest, excellent breakfast. They also have cassowaries regularly walking by the property. We weren’t lucky enough to spot one, but it was a great stay nonetheless!
Response from Property: Thanks for your review Erica, we also wish you could have stayed longer. So sorry the cassowaries didn't pass by - that's the nature of them being wild! We hope the rest of your trip went well, and that you got to see a lot more wildlife. All the best, Dawn & Blair
