The Dower House Hotel

This was a little gem of a find. The hotel and grounds are stunning. Neil and Rosemarie were fabulous hosts, extremely friendly and welcoming. The room was very well decorated with the added bonus of a separate tv room with wardrobe and sofa. Lovely and comfortable. A great place to make the most of the very short drives to visit Sidmouth, Lyme Regis, Beer and 5 minutes from River Cottage. Thoroughly enjoyed our 5day break here

The setting was wonderful so quiet. Very friendly and helpful staff especially in the restaurant. They made our friend’s special birthday a weekend to remember. I left my jacket at the hotel and the staff quickly and efficiently sent it back to me!

We were given an afternoon tea gift by the family and booked it for today. Staff were very helpful and friendly and the Afternoon Tea was one of the nicest we have had. They catered for our dietary needs and we were well looked after. The setting was lovely and we will definitely return. Highly recommended..

Great location and beautiful hotel. We stayed in a junior suite which was situated over the bar. It was a beautiful room with a big bathroom. Everything was spotless! We thought it may be noisy but other than hearing a bit of background music it wasn’t. I have to say the beds are extremely comfortable, will definitely return.

First time at Dower House and we were very impressed. We were playing golf at Woodhall Spa, for which the hotel is ideally situated. We had the “golf view” room which was located in the accommodation block just away from the main hotel. Room was large and very comfortable. We only had breakfast at the hotel and this was very good.

So I've had two trips to this hotel in a week. The hotel itself is located down a small road. The building is very nice and clean. Upon checking in the first time, I was told I'd be staying in the lodge which is opposite the main hotel. The Lodge was very clean. There are lifts available. My room was large, had plenty of space and was super clean. The second stay I was located in the lodge but on the ground floor which was nice. Room was slightly smaller but still had the same things available, ie, kettle, ironing board etc. There were doors from the bedroom to the outside which is ideal for a smoker like me. Dinner was had in the bar and restaurant. The restaurant is preferred as it's slightly quieter. The fish and chips were outstanding. So was the burger. Their breakfast is also very good. Great service and amazing staff. The hotel is quiet but shops and the main high street are about a 5 minute walk. Here's the negatives. The water is very hot and there is plenty of signage. The only problem was that I used the hot water and hot water also came out of the cold tap. This was a one off. The cold water was cool. In the summer it'd be nice if it was ice cold. The TVs are basic. Apart from that I'd definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it to anyone. It's also used as a wedding venue and I can see why.

After an awful car journey, within 5 minutes of arriving at this wonderful hotel we had relaxed! Staff, atmosphere and food were excellent. We took up the option of dining outside with views of the beautiful extensive garden also - having visited Harry's bar en-route. Well done everyone, we will be back x

Gorgeous hotel in a beautifully tranquil location. Stayed here for one night to break the journey home from Scotland. On arrival we were told we had been given an upgrade.....to the honeymoon suite! The best news ever as our previous hotel had been disappointing to say the very least!! The suite was gorgeous and we ate in the restaurant where the food was delicious and beautifully presented. A welcome break on a long journey...wish we had booked for the week!!

I organised a golf event for twenty guys and we stayed at this hotel. We have used them before and they were excellent then and this time, they once again didn't let us down. Whilst the food and rooms were excellent, the thing that really stood out was the service provided by every single member of staff. From the moment we started the booking process with Zoe, all the way through the weekend, nothing was too much trouble. The guy behind the bar on Sunday night was just excellent and the lady who served us breakfast on the Monday morning was incredibly cheerful, especially for a Monday morning. At a time when price seem to drive everything, it is still so good to find somewhere that prides itself on the service it provides. Well done.
