We had spoken to the bar man about a room he suggested there was one room left, we said we would take it. He was to busy to show us the room said we could veiw the room as soon as some else came in as he was alone say 30 mins. We said would go for a walk and return. On the return I ordered two drinks by the time he had poured the second the other staff member had taken the room for herself. We left without the drinks as we had now to find accommodation elsewhere. Very disappointing for us, and a loss of revenue for them. We wouldnt return here

Unfortunately we did not have a very good experience at this hotel. I ordered and paid £11.50 cash for a prawn cocktail. I was served a hot ( not warm ) prawn cocktail and when I returned it I was told that is how they serve prawn cocktail. I explained never at any other establishment had I ever been served a hot prawn cocktail and the answer I received……do you want raw prawns? I said I was sorry but I could not eat it. A few minutes later the hot prawn cocktail was brought back to me and again I refused it. I was offered something else to eat but refused. When I wrote to management once I returned home they acknowledged that it should never have been served ‘hot’ and apologised and said they had spoken to their staff. The staff informed management that they had returned my £11.50 which was totally untrue…no refund was offered just a replacement of food which I did not accept. Told management I did not receive or want the £11.50 but wondered where the money had gone - Hope if they ever find the £11.50 they give it to charity. Also, two mornings while eating breakfast workmen were in the kitchen, creating dust, while food was being prepared.

Stopped in on our way through and decided to eat here. What a delight, we had steak and ale pie and a special of BBQ pulled pork flatbread. Lovely and friendly service, waiting time was just right. Couldn’t fit in a dessert as we were too full. We had not read any reviews and so glad we hadn’t as I can definitely say that our experience was excellent and I would totally recommend. It.

Some years ago this was a "boutique" hotel and we enjoyed our stay. We went back in July 2025 and as soon as we walked in it was apparent that the place was under different mangement. Unfortunately the establishment had gone from "chic" to "cheap" and it is now just an average pub with some rooms. Having said that, the "front end" staff, two young ladies, were very polite and helpful. As for our room, the first thing we noticed was that the bedside lights didn't work. We were told someone would come along and fix it but I didn't expect a knock on the door at 10:30pm having reported it about an hour earlier. The room also had some other faults which should not have been present. There was noticeable mould in the shower and the toilet seat was either the wrong size or it hadn't been fitted properly. The doors in our part of the hotel appeared to have been incorrectly fitted and the handrails look amateurish at best. When we went to breakfast the next morning we found the door between our part of the hotel and the breakfast area was locked and we ended up having to ring the hotel, actually from inside the hotel, someone to come and open the door. Given the above, I don't think we got anything close to value for money and we won't be returning.

Went for a meal for two. Waited for nearly an hour for some of it to turn up. I was told mine would be a few minutes but my chips would be cold. Front of house polite. Don't know what was going off out back. I was asked if I wanted my chips warming up. The food was cool when it arrived, tasted good. Management need to sort their staffing out.

We had a pleasant welcome Nice hotel, but a bit tired. It has some lovely unusual touches. The restaurant was only open residents on a Saturday. The room was a good size and the bed was comfortable. The shower was very hit and miss and at one stage the water dried up. Not what you need after a long wet walk. Breakfast was fine.

Firstly, dogs are welcome in the bar area. We decided to have lunch here as we were visiting the area. Mandy, the serving staff member, took our orders. We both had the Balmoral chicken. Black pudding stuffed chicken breast covered in bacon strips mash potatoes and veg with thick pepper sauce. I have to say it was delicious, it reminded me of huntsman’s chicken. Mash was superb. I will also say that Mandy was really helpful and engaging. We also congratulated the chef as she passed through the bar but unfortunately didn’t get her name. Will we go back again, definitely.

Popped in for dinner at 5pm told we couldn't order as the chef was on her break and they didn't know when she would be back. After 15 minutes someone came to take our order. It came promptly but food was awful the Mac and cheese was like a bowl of pasta swimming in a watery sauce, could barely taste any cheese. The menu described it as having a crispy top, not a crispy top in sight. The homemade rustic garlic bread was a pizza base with a spread of garlic butter. The lasagne was pretty basic. The chips which looked good were difficult to cut, felt like they had been reheated and dried out. Could only manage half of them. Definitely won't be back, a total rip off. £30+ spent on food, wasted. Went home and cooked a meal.
