We weren't sure what to expect travelling from our home in Niigata to Yamagata at New Year as there are few people from abroad fortunate to be in Japan right now but we received the warmest welcome. We were immediately shown where to park our car, given all the information we required in English and had a pleasant room on the 6th floor. The outstanding part of our stay was the restaurant well set out, a full range of fabulous food and drink on offer, the set menu was a treat. The star of the show for me were the sweet treats (see photo) There was a lot of snowfall during our stay so we were grateful for the restaurant and friendly service at the end of each day. The staff work long hours but were always attentive and cheerful. The hotel is well placed for visiting Yamagata, we enjoyed walking around in the snow! This hotel comes thoroughly recommended. The breakfast is very delicious, and although it is an old facility, it is well-maintained, and it will be a shame to see it go. I come by rotary every week, and the staff are good for a rural area.
