Excellent ryokan onsen. Very tasty kaiseki dinner and Japanese breakfast. The location is great - half an hour walk from the station and half an hour to the monkey park. You can visit 9 public baths for free. The onsen in the hotel is small, but very hot, dilute with cold water, otherwise you can scald yourself. The staff are foreigners, speak excellent English. The view from the room windows above the reception overlooks the famous ryokan. Sinks and toilet are shared, but everything is close to the rooms. The price is great. I highly recommend it.

The location of Ikariya ryokan is amazing. In the middle of all 9 public onsens. Staff is more than nice. Very friendly and English communication is okay! Especially the food there is amazing. I have to say it's really beyond my expectation. Anyway, it's a very good trip to experience the culture of Japanese hotel and also hot spring.

渋温泉の温泉街の真ん中あたり、向かいに渋温泉でも著名なお宿の金具屋（ジブリのあのアニメのあの建物のデザインに似ている？）、すぐそばに外湯めぐりの中でも一番大きな大湯がある立地です。 創業は大正年間だそうで、木造の3階建て+地下に温泉で階段のみ。部屋数は少なく、一方スタッフさんも夏休み期間ながら少なめの結構ギリギリな感じ。そうはいっても布団敷くとかご飯の配膳とか、タオルの用意など忙しくこなしておられた印象です。 外湯めぐりは（全て回ることは1泊ではできませんでしたが）洗い場がなく、かけ湯して、熱い湯を水で好みの温度に埋めながら入るため、宿の温泉の洗い場で身体を洗っておくことが必要だと思います。ただ宿の温泉もかけ流しで熱く、一緒になった方と温度の好みに差がある時はやけどしないよう気を付けましょう。 食事は夕食、朝食とも品数がすごくあるわけではないですが、量がしっかりあります。おかずも美味しいのですが、水がいいのかご飯が美味しかった印象です。コーヒーもいただけました。なお食事場所は椅子です。 車で行く時に最後慌てたのですが、ナビで旅館の電話番号を入れるとそのまま宿の前まで連れて行こうとするのですが、宿の前に駐車場はありません（おまけに一方通行を逆走で連れていかれるところでした）。最初から川沿いの渋温泉来訪者向けの有料駐車場に停めて歩いていく方がよいでしょう。こちらのお宿に泊まる際に、その駐車場に停めたというと駐車場代が半額返金されます。これは駐車場の係りの方も教えてくれました。
