Yangshuo Zen Garden Resort Reviews

Zen Garden was our most remote hotel during our China tour. The location is undeniably beautiful, offering stunning views of the hills and mountains. However, despite receiving an upgrade after the first night, we found the price-quality ratio unsatisfactory. We paid the same amount for our stay in a five-star hotel the following day in Nanjing, which provided a significantly better room and breakfast. Since its opening in 2017, the hotel appears to have undergone little to no maintenance. There is noticeable wear and tear on the building, and the toilet emitted a strong sewage odor, which was quite unpleasant. Communication was a challenge as Cindy was the only staff member who spoke English properly. When she wasn't available, it was difficult to communicate in person. Fortunately, the WeChat communication was an excellent alternative and made things easier. On a positive note, the afternoon tea and dinner were quite good, offering healthy and fresh options. Breakfast was very limited and none Western options except an egg and white toast with butter. The complimentary zen shoot was a nice touch, although it was apparent that it was the photographer's first time conducting such a shoot. We were particularly disappointed with the spa. The treatments were much different than expected, lacking the luxury and expertise typically associated with such high prices. Additionally, the cost for two people was almost the same as the room rate, which we found unreasonable. Overall, while Zen Garden's location and some amenities were enjoyable, the lack of maintenance, high prices, and communication difficulties detracted from our experience. With all the new buildings in the same area, there are better options.

We had a very pleasant stay at Zen Garden Resort. The staff are very kind and helpful, and can arrange free shuttles to anywhere within 7km of the Resort (which is close enough for several attractions and Yangshuo town). The room was quite spacious and comfortable, with a spectacular view of the surrounding mountains. We particularly enjoyed the incense and tea in the room which set a very relaxing mood. The Resort also offers a range of activities like breathing meditations in the morning and lantern decorating at night which we enjoyed. The restaurant was especially excellent for all meals, and even provide free afternoon tea from 3-4pm. The fat cat in the lobby, Baozi, and the small dogs were lovely to have around. It’s within about 10-20 minutes drive away from most attractions the area, but there are also some nice walks you can do around the Resort. A bit on the expensive side, but you will definitely have a good time here.

The hotel is situated about 200 metres behind the Yulong river and nested in a quiet village, tucked not too far away from the tourist attractions of the Shili Hualang 十里画廊. The scenery is great and generally very, very calm. The management team is extremely helpful and friendly, even when we left a few items bought from them, we got a full refund quickly as it was the most convenient for us. Great for vegetarian - the hotel runs a good vegetarian (Chinese) options. Their western options are really limited to toast and butter served with coffee. Great if you are ok with a Chinese menu. We loved their cat, 包子 the most. The cute and chubby Garfield cat enjoys Yangshuo more than anyone there. Unfortunately their pool was under renovation during the hot weather season while we were there. Otherwise it could've been even better. Generally clean rooms. Great for couples, retirees and young families.

The hotel has a nice view. As the weather clears up, the hotel's exterior is the essence of Yangshuo. The hotel staff is very friendly. The hotel's afternoon tea is the most satisfying. The small desserts are delicious. I bought a few boxes when I left. The kumquat slices, which are souvenirs of the hotel, are delicious. There are many activities in the hotel, and there is a book bar on the first floor. It is very close to Yulong River, Gongnong Bridge, and the big banyan tree. The most pleasant thing is to sit by the pool and watch the continuous mountains of Yangshuo, the clouds rolling and unrolling. At this moment, all the worries and troubles are gone.

The hotel is in Jiwodu Village, surrounded by mountains and water, with a good view. The Wanjin Wharf of Yulong River is not far away, and the comprehensive wharf for bamboo rafts to disembark is also next to it. The big banyan tree and the moon mountain are nearby. If it is the lotus season, the scenery should be more beautiful. The hotel is elegant and full of Zen. There are herbs in the room for foot bathing every day. The hotel food tastes good, better than the county restaurant, you can choose to eat in the hotel What needs to be improved is the stability of hot water supply for bathing. Many of the surrounding homestays have good environments. This one was recommended by a six-person tour, so I adopted it and chose it. It is worth recommending👍
