JI Hotel (Zhangzhou Ancient City)

Out of the four cities we visited, the Quji Hotel in Zhangzhou really stood out. The ambiance was elegant and serene, and the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. Our room had a fantastic view, and the breakfast buffet was abundant. I'd definitely come back!

This Ji Hotel in Zhangzhou was the most satisfying hotel of my Fujian trip. First, it's super conveniently located opposite the old city of Zhangzhou, just a ten-minute walk from the L5 tourist bus stop, making it easy to visit Fujian Tulou, Tianluokeng, and Yunshuiyao. Second, the hotel rooms offer river views, which are beautifully illuminated at night. The hotel is new, and the rooms are spacious. The two young men at the front desk who served me were incredibly nice and left a wonderful impression on me during my trip to Zhangzhou. I highly recommend this Ji Hotel!

The hotel boasts a prime location. Facing the old town on one side and the Jiulong River on the other, it offers a quiet retreat amidst the bustling city. The river-view room I booked had a nice view, although the road below is a main thoroughfare, and there was some noise on the tenth floor. Breakfast and service were decent, with some local specialties in the food. The hotel's laundry room was very convenient.

Overall, it was okay. The bathroom smelled quite strong with smoke in the evening and the next morning, probably due to the ventilation system and the lack of a window. There are parking spaces, but you need to call the number on the barrier and wait a few minutes for someone to come and verify your identity before you can enter. To park on the ground, you also need to call hotel staff to retrieve the parking space sign. It would be a big plus if hotel staff could come to the entrance to guide you, but unfortunately, they didn't. Personally, I found the mattress too soft; it wasn't to my liking. However, this may vary from person to person. There was a rattling noise from the ceiling at night, which was a bit disturbing for light sleepers.

I booked a room with a view for two nights. When I checked in, the receptionist gave me a room on the 11th floor, a high floor with a view of the river right across the street. The view was excellent, and my vacation in Zhangzhou was great. However, when I was about to leave, I was annoyed by the hotel staff. When I asked if they gave me a gift, the receptionist and the young man handling my check-out went to ask someone who seemed to be their manager. The young man then gave me a box of tea cakes and asked how many people were with me. I said two, and they gave me another box. Okay, so far, nothing was wrong. I went to a window seat to wait for my boyfriend (because it was peak check-out time and only one elevator was working, I waited a long time before going down to check out, and my boyfriend took the next elevator with his suitcase). Maybe because I was sitting in a seat, the receptionist couldn't see me, but I could hear them talking about me, saying they gave me two boxes of tea cakes and that my room was messy. They sounded like they regretted giving them to me. So here's the problem: if they thought my silver membership wasn't high enough and wanted a gift, they shouldn't have given it to me. Instead, they gave it to me and then talked about me behind my back. When I checked out, the receptionist asked how my stay was, and I said it was fine. However, she didn't mention that on the first day at noon, while I was still changing clothes in the room without requesting room cleaning, the housekeeper used my room key to open my door. I understand that noon is room cleaning time, but they didn't even confirm with the front desk how many nights I was staying in the room. Having someone in the room and still coming in is something I've never encountered before in all my hotel stays. Then, after cleaning, the tissues on the bedside table were used up, and they didn't provide new ones. There were no tissues to wipe the table while eating, thankfully I brought my own small pack of facial tissues to use sparingly. As for the crickets and the mess in my room, I'm speechless. Do I have to clean the room before I leave? Am I here to clean the hotel? I stayed normally, didn't litter, and tried my best to put takeout in bags, tie them up, and put them next to the trash can. And yet, I still got crickets! I'm fed up. This bad review is for the female staff member who cricketed at me; you can figure out which one it is yourself.

It's very close to the ancient city, and I visited it twice! The hotel breakfast was excellent; you can add more upon arrival! The bedding in the room was very clean and of good quality, and the pillow I needed was delivered promptly! I also conveniently hired a car to visit the surrounding Tulou (Hakka earthen buildings) one day during my stay.

The hotel's location is excellent, offering a quiet oasis in the heart of the city, and it's very convenient to get around. However, the hotel was undergoing elevator repairs at the Ji Hotel, and the entire complex seemed to be under renovation as well. The elevator wasn't very responsive, and the card reader sometimes failed to swipe, making for a rather frustrating experience. The service was okay, and the blankets were very comfortable.

The room was new and very smart. It had a voice assistant to control the appliances. Great! I booked a river-view room, which had a fantastic view of the riverside park and two bridges. The staff member kindly arranged parking, and the staff member thoughtfully made tea for us. The overall experience was excellent, very pleasant. The location is extremely convenient, right next to the ancient city, making the entire Zhangzhou trip easy and comfortable. Highly recommended.
