MMac-GHWhen traveling to European cities, we have found that being close to the main rail station is a must for us. This hotel is NOT near that main station, but is just a few blocks from the Hardbrucke Station, and within a block of the Schiffbau Tram Stop. Once we figured this out, we found it pretty easy to use the #4 Tram to get from this place to the major tourist sites of Zurich. If arriving at the Zurich Airport, the best way to get to the Hardbrucke Station is to use S-Bahn #16, that goes directly between these two places. If arriving in Zurich by train or bus, there are about a dozen S-Bahn trains going from the main station & Hardbrucke. Once at the latter, exit the station near the Hitzberger & the BretzelKoenig, walking underneath the raised highway towards Schiffbaustrasse. Turn left when you see the Schiffbau theater, and you'll soon be at the Ibis. This area is a former industrial area that has been turned into a residential / entertainment area. Thus, there is a grey grimness to the neighborhood, despite being close to several restaurants, two supermarkets, and a few places for entertainment. Wander around for a few minutes, and you'll find most everything you'll need to enjoy your stay. Ibis hotels are generally minimal amenities for a lower price, and this one is no exception. Our room had a half-bath, phone, hair-dryer, free wifi, and TV with over 100 channels -- about 21 in English. It was clean, quiet, and well-maintained. Staff was efficient & professional. An onsite restaurant will serve a breakfast buffet for a price. Although many cities in Switzerland provide free transit passes to guests who stay in local lodging, Zurich is not one of these. You can use the Swiss Travel Pass or the Zurich Card to ride the trams to tourist sites, or just buy tickets or day passes at the vending machines at the stops. If you don't mind riding a tram to & from the tourists stops, this Ibis can be a more economical choice for your stay in Zurich.
