Welsh’s Pyramid Mountain

Welsh’s Pyramid Mountain

Walshs Pyramid is an independent peak with a distinct pyramidal appearance, located within Wooroonooran National Park, 20 km south of Cairns, Queensland, Australia. An annual footrace is held on the third Saturday in August, to its summit. A very steep walk/ rock climb ! You need a reasonable amount of fitness to finish this. I recommend starting early - it took about 4 hours for me, from 7am to 11am. I carried 2 litres of water with me and that was fine. I would recommend bringing a snack to keep you going - it's a tough one. Do not attempt this in summer because there is not much shade. After the rain do not attempt because a lot of the walking/ climbing is over rocks that get really slippery after rain. It gets really warm so bring a hat! I've seen kids do it but you definitely wanna make sure you're bringing fit kids up.

Jewelled sea - natural wonder downunder

It has always been one of my bucket lists to visit the Great Barrier Reef and it certainly did not disappoint! The weather was perfect on our sailing day with cerulean blue sky and light breeze. We booked a cruise tour which included two reef locations- Saxon Reef and Hasting Reef. It was one of the most amazing experience ever! The two sites were quite different in terms of their marine landscapes and great for different activities. The Saxon Reef was relatively greater in depth and would be a perfect location for a dive, whereas Hasting Reef has spectacular coral reef at proximity even when snorkelling. We saw a huge local fish called ‘Wally’ (Maori Wrasse) and many other marine life! Would love to visit another reef next time! Tips: even if the sea was calm, highly recommend to take sea sickness prevention pills in advance. #greatbarrierreef #naturalwonders #queensland #cairns #australia

Some corals are like ancient trees, with branches and leaves that shelter marine life from the wind and rain; some are like exquisite works of art, with rounded shapes and delicate textures that show the craftsmanship of nature; others are like fireworks, with brilliant colors and unique shapes that instantly light up the entire underwater space. Colorful tropical fish swim happily among the corals, with the playfulness of clownfish and the elegance of angelfish, they complement each other with the corals, creating vivid and lively pictures. Sea turtles, dolphins, dugongs, and other marine life also shuttle among them, adding infinite vitality and energy to this sea area. The Great Barrier Reef not only provides a paradise for marine life to live and reproduce but also brings an indescribable wonderful experience to humans. Diving enthusiasts can go deep into the sea to get close to the corals and fish and feel the rhythm of life; taking a glass-bottom boat, you can clearly see the wonders of the underwater world, as if you are in a transparent aquarium; overlooking from a helicopter, you can see the magnificent panorama of the Great Barrier Reef, and the majestic momentum is shocking. Great Barrier Reef: Underwater Kingdom, Natural Wonder.

Great Barrier Reef: Underwater Kingdom, Natural Wonder.

🌍 Hidden in the vast blue sea is a breathtaking natural wonder - the Great Barrier Reef 🐠🌊. Like a colorful dragon, it winds along the northeastern coast of Queensland, Australia. It is the largest and longest coral reef system on Earth, known as the "underwater rainforest" 🌿🌈. 🧬 The Great Barrier Reef has a long history, dating back to 5 million years ago, and is one of the oldest coral reefs on Earth. This vast sea area is composed of about 2,900 independent coral reefs and 900 islands, stretching over 2,300 kilometers and covering an area of about 344,000 square kilometers 🗺️. Coral reefs are formed by tiny coral insects and microorganisms over a long period of time by secreting calcareous skeletons. The accumulation of these biological remains eventually forms this colorful underwater world 🐟🧬. 🌈 The natural landscape of the Great Barrier Reef is breathtaking. It is a paradise for divers and a favorite in the lens of photographers. The coral reefs are diverse in shape, some are like underwater peaks, majestic and spectacular; some are like underwater gardens, colorful; and some are as complex as a maze, full of mystery and unknown. In this sea area, there are more than 1,600 species of fish, more than 600 species of coral reefs, more than 4,000 species of mollusks and 242 species of birds, forming a rich and colorful marine ecosystem 🐠🐢🐦. 🌡️ However, in recent years, the Great Barrier Reef is facing unprecedented challenges. Global warming has led to rising ocean temperatures and ocean acidification, putting tremendous pressure on coral reefs. Corals are extremely sensitive to water temperature. High temperatures can trigger coral bleaching, causing corals to lose color and gradually die 😢. According to scientists, the coral coverage of the Great Barrier Reef has decreased by more than half from 1995 to 2017. In addition, pollution from human activities, overfishing, and marine plastic pollution have also caused immeasurable damage to this fragile ecosystem 🚫💔. 💪 Faced with these challenges, the Australian government and the international community have taken a series of measures to protect the Great Barrier Reef. Measures such as establishing protected areas, restricting fishing activities, and reducing pollutant emissions are aimed at protecting and restoring the ecosystem of the Great Barrier Reef. At the same time, scientists are also actively studying the adaptability and resistance of corals, hoping to help coral populations adapt to the pressure of climate change through scientific research and protection measures, and protect this precious natural heritage 🌱🔬. 🌍 The Great Barrier Reef is not only a treasure of Australia, but also a common wealth of all mankind. Let us work together to protect this beautiful underwater world and let the brilliant colors of the Great Barrier Reef shine forever on the blue sea 🌈🌍.
