I stayed one night at this hotel, which is conveniently located near the train station and feels fresh and new. The on-site restaurant serves dinner, and we tried the sukiyaki — it was absolutely delicious and definitely worth a try, even if the price is on the higher side. Overall, I had a very pleasant experience and would happily choose this hotel again when visiting Zao.
The hotel has free parking, which is a big thumbs up, you can park in the parking lot behind the hotel, then take a ticket to reception and plug it in, you can park until the next morning, and the famous and delicious Mizawa beef next morning to the hotel
Love this hotel. It's beautifully designed by 坂茂 and it lives up to his fame. The buildings look like they are floating over the rice fields. Both dinners and breakfast were excellent. Most ingredients are sourced locally and they are delicious. But what I love the most is the open baths. Both are small, but they're carefully designed with a tranquil, soothing view. I'd love to come back again just for the hotel.
Great location, clean room that matched the pictures. All amenities were provided. The only downside was the parking; it's available but comes with an extra charge. Breakfast was decent, and the staff were lovely and very helpful.
This hotel is located conveniently. There are railway stations and bus terminals near. You can use this hotel as a base and visit other places by public transport. Some travelers live in this hotel and go to Zao Onsen ski resort for skiing or snowboarding. There are a lot of places to eat or go shopping.
1. Location of the hotel is nice!
2. Double Room size is pretty small which is 140m2 onlty! So, I would not reccomend those who have kids!
3. Toilet is very tiny! also bathtub can't fit a small kid!
4. The Freezer is very small! I have never seen such a small freezer. So, couldn't fit our Bento Box!
5. The hotel is old, and not properly maintained, for example; shower curtain is broken, and attach it with tape!
The view was great because the accommodation was on the 8th floor
The room was calm and relaxing
I felt that the bed was low, so I was considering children and weak feet.
However, if the height of the bathtub in the bath is a little lower 、、、
Breakfast is always decided to be coffee in bread and salad, side dishes 々
It was like ~ that Japanese food could not be selected.
I stayed here while traveling from Kyushu.
I had a comfortable time.
The staff were warm and welcoming, and were full of hospitality.
The room was neatly arranged, and I was very satisfied with the cleanliness, including the fact that there were chilled towels in the refrigerator and that we could choose our yukata.
The large public bath was bright and very clean, not a single hair was found, and the water felt great. I usually don't bathe in the morning, but I couldn't help but take a dip!
I was also very satisfied with the food, both dinner and breakfast! The flavors were mild and the portions were just right, neither too much nor too little.
I was able to relax in the lounge as well. The grapefruit juice was delicious!
I felt that the entire hotel was carefully thought out.
I would like to stay here again. It was a fond memory. Thank you.
Located on the top of a business building linking to the Yamagata station.
You won’t have to be worried even if it’s snowing or raining.
A side note to travellers from the hotter climate, the hotel doesn’t supply air conditioning during winter. Instead it has a small webbed facility that allows outside air to flow into the room. This slight chills the room. However during the day, the room will be super hot.
Initially we had a room facing the sun and when we checked in, the room is super hot. Called the customer service only to find out they didn’t have air conditioning during winter and we have to rent a fan from them.
After a slight communication, the customer service is kind enough to upgrade us to a bigger room which is slightly cooler. Big props to the customer service lady! 5 stars service !
A convenient hotel for a short stay in Yamagata. The welcoming smiles of the front receptionists are very much appreciated. The hotel is very clean and tidy and is located next to Family Mart. Finding food is not a problem as there are many restaurants nearby. The breakfast served in the morning is delicious and varied. Highly recommended to stay in this hotel.

GGuest UserWhat a gem of a place! The special thing about this place is that there are 5 private outdoor onsens as well as a gender-segregated public bath and one mixed gender outdoor bath (for this one, you need to wear a bathing suit). If you are shy of exposing yourself or like taking photos, then those 5 private outdoor onsens are just perfect. I went in the autumn, which is cooling already and I can imagine what a treat it will be in winter with all the snow.
The hotel is located almost to the top of the hill. Either drive or call them ahead and they will pick you up and drop you off in the vicinity.
My room is quaint and Japanese-styled. I didn't pay for the meal package as I knew I'd would be busy trying out all the onsens available. They are all open 24hrs. By the way, private onsen number 1 and 5 are the best and most picturesque!!!
I'm doing all a favor and posting all the pictures of the private onsens.

GGuest UserIt seems that the group who was training camp was staying, and it was a room near the elevator, so I was worried about the footsteps and voices of 々. The breakfast was very delicious. The room was large and easy to spend.
GGuest UserThe trip was planned few weeks ahead, accommodation options in Zao Onsen are scarce. If there were other options, I probably would not go with this hotel again.
- Before arrival, I called the hotel twice using trip.com but no one answered.
- There was only one front desk staff handling check-in. I have waited for 20 minutes for check-in and the Indian family has it waited for 35 minutes. There was another staff coming out from the office and acknowledged the queue. However no action was taken despite the long wait by guest.
- I inquired about shuttle bus service but the staff at the entrance said “No shuttle bus”. I saw shuttle bus having the hotel name around the Zao Onsen area.
- On the first day of room cleaning, the cleaning lady has not replaced the used porcelain cup and Japanese cup. Also no replenishment on tea bags and toilet amenities. At this price point of over USD500 per night, I was quite surprised.
- There are 2 onsen places, one outside the hotel and one on the 1F. The outdoor onsen inside the hotel was not opened and the reason is “snow accumulation”.
Overall, the room is spacious and clean but the service did not meet the expectations.
WWenlianggongziVery satisfied, the bed is very comfortable, we stayed in a Japanese-style house, the dinner is worth recommending, it is very rich and tastes very good, the chef is very skilled. The outdoor onsen was also nice.
GGuest UserI've stayed here several times.
It's within walking distance of Tsuruoka Station and has a bus terminal next door, so it's very convenient.
Although it's a hotel, it has a hot spring on the top floor of the annex, which is great. The open-air bath is closed in the morning, but it's great for warming up when your body is hot from the sauna or running.
My room was a single room and not very large, but it was well-maintained and clean.
They change towels for consecutive nights, but I would have liked some refills on the tea and coffee. It's a small thing, I know.
The staff are also kind and polite. I'd like to stay here again.
MMon ThailandThis hotel is located in a beautiful ski resort. Opening the window, you're greeted with a stunning view of a snow-covered landscape. The staff are incredibly attentive, especially the drivers who provide shuttle services to various locations. Even though they don't speak English, their dedication to service is exceptional. Although the rooms show their age, they are clean and tidy. There are private onsens available, both in-room and outdoor, but they come with an additional charge. While the location isn't ideal for walking, the shuttle service is excellent.
ZZoeAbsolutely lovely place. At first I thought I'd be uncomfortable with how spaceous the room was (I'm a very jumpy solo traveller), but the room was just so comfy with an excellent view. The heater was a bit hot, but there was an electric fan too, so all was great.
The hotel allows you to have a free 50 minute private bath each night, and the private baths are amazing, able to accommodate up to five persons and with windows to let in the light and stuff. Excellent onsen water -- very acidic and very hot. Takes some time getting used to the heat, but once you do it's a heavenly experience. There are also public baths (free of charge) that you could enjoy throughout the night and into early morning (they're closed for cleaning only during 9-12 in the morning), one indoor and one outdoor, both connected to one another. The outdoor one is a bit small, but it's so refreshing to be able to flee from the stifling indoor onsen to enjoy the crisp winter air while soaking up in the heat.
NNetotrevinoWoah! This is one of the best ryokans we’ve been to. The staff was super attentive and could speak some English, the rooms were amazing (see the photos!). The onsen in the room was fantastic so there was no need for us to go to the public or private onsen downstairs.
The hotel is located 3 minutes away from the bus station and conveniently situated near everything. We’ve stayed at other ryokans but this one was top notch! We strongly recommend to stay at this place and will try to come back again with friends and family. Oh! The food was wow, too! We had breakfasts and dinners included and the sukiyaki dinner offered Yamagata A5 meat which was to die for. Breakfast was also great!
