The breakfast food was quite tasty, but the variety was a bit limited. Also, even though we stayed at the hotel, we had to pay for parking ourselves. Otherwise, the environment and service were great – a fantastic experience! Plus, the hotel is right in the city center, and you can walk to the largest mall in Sabah.

Nice, comfortable stay with friendly staff. Overall, we enjoyed our time here.
However, we booked a room for 4 persons, but only 2 travel kits were provided (2 toothbrushes, 1 comb, etc.). We had to call housekeeping to request additional items. After a long journey, we were quite tired and hoped the room would be fully prepared according to the number of guests. It would be much better if a complete set was provided upon check-in.
Breakfast was simple but nice, which we appreciated.
One downside is the parking fee, which is quite expensive — RM30 per day for front shop parking and RM15 for basement parking. Hopefully, the hotel can look into improving or offering better parking rates for guests.

The location is fantastic, very close to Jesselton Point,銘刻旅行社 (Mingke Travel Agency), Gaya Street, and Suria Sabah shopping mall. It's super convenient for shopping and island hopping.
The hotel itself is quite new, with a stylish design and layout, attracting a lot of younger guests.
Breakfast is excellent – plentiful, exquisite, and high-quality. You can even enjoy it on the outdoor terrace with direct sea views, which is a real bonus.
The pool isn't huge; it's a long, narrow shape, but you still get to enjoy the sea view from there.
My only minor complaints are that they don't provide complimentary bottled water that you can take out (only glass bottles for in-room use), and the lobby on the first floor is a bit small.

Hyatt never disappoints. Even though the hotel is quite old, it's very well-maintained, and the service is excellent – warm and efficient. The location is superb; you can walk to Jesselton Point and many highly-rated restaurants. Suria Sabah shopping mall is right next door, which is great for shopping. It has nothing but pros; it would be even better if the room furniture could be updated!

The room was quite clean. It's within walking distance to Gaya Street, Suria Sabah, and other places, as it's located in the city center. Kota Kinabalu is small, so every taxi ride seems to pass by the hotel, and it's very close to the Hilton. We checked in around midnight on the 17th, and the front desk lady was incredibly gentle and kind, providing very professional and warm service. The hotel facilities are a bit old, and the lobby had a peculiar smell, like durian or something similar, which wasn't very pleasant. However, the rooms facing the mountain were very quiet, and I slept really well. Overall, it's worth recommending, and I hope they can provide bottled water in the future.

There's quite a difference between Marriott hotels in China and abroad. The only reason I'm giving a higher score is for the sea view.
Facilities: I stayed in a sea-view room, and yes, you could see the sea, but it was only on the 9th floor, so not very high up. I'm not sure if there were other options I wasn't offered. It was a double room, but they only provided one toothbrush cup and then claimed they had no spares. Seriously, only one toothbrush cup? I tried to shower around 9 PM, and the water was freezing cold; it just wouldn't heat up. I ended up shivering through it. I tried again during the day, and the water temperature was fine then.
Cleanliness: There were obvious stains on the floor, even though it was tiled, it certainly wasn't clean.
Environment: The only good thing was its proximity to the sea; you could see the ocean right away.
Service: Thinking back to the lack of extra toothbrush cups, the service really wasn't great. Also, they don't provide any amenities for children here.

Had a pleasant stay for a short business trip. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout my stay. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. Amenities were complete, especially the gym which was convenient and clean. Location is also strategic with easy access to nearby restaurants and conveniences. Overall, a comfortable and hassle-free experience. Would definitely consider staying here again for future work trips.

Thank you for providing an all-in-one environment for busy professionals like me. A place where I can work, meeting old friends, and at the same time allow my 3 boys to enjoy themselves safely. The availability of both a swimming pool and a small beach, with lifeguards on duty, gave me peace of mind throughout the day. the room was also clean and convinient for us also to enjoy beautiful morning sunrise.
I was able to continue my work comfortably, spending time reading and writing on my laptop by the pool, surrounded by beautiful seaside scenery while watching my son playing. The experience was further enhanced by the availability of good food at the restaurant despite busy with customer, waitress e.g Ms Shamira and all were very helpful. Added with relaxing drinks in the evening while listening to live band performances, and quiet moments of healing by the beach, resting on the sofa with the sound of the sea. The staff were friendly and helpful, e.g Mr Alex and the team, who made our stay even more pleasant. Hopefully, we will have the opportunity to come again.

This hotel has been open for over 20 years, so the facilities are a bit old and the soundproofing isn't great. However, the location is absolutely fantastic – you can walk to all sorts of dining, drinking, and entertainment options. The sunset from the ocean view rooms is also beautiful. Right outside, there's a vibrant food stall and BBQ market with a great atmosphere. The staff's service and attitude are excellent.

The overall experience was okay.
The soundproofing is extremely poor. You can hear every single sound from upstairs, downstairs, the hallway, and outside the window clearly and constantly inside the room.
Service: On the first day, we arrived punctually at 3 PM to check in, only to be told that our room wasn't ready. We had to wait for nearly 20-30 minutes without any compensation or explanation. They also refused our request for a late check-out, which made the entire trip start off on a very unpleasant note.

HHelen yonglandedingdangThe room was quite old, but luckily I had read other reviews before checking in, so I was prepared. We were notified in advance that the hotel rooms were under renovation, but strangely, there was hammering every night. It wouldn't stop until we called customer service (dial 3 on the phone) to complain. The latest it went on was until 12 AM, which was unbearable. Yet, the next day, it was the same; if we didn't call, the hammering continued. This 'wait for the other shoe to drop' management style is truly incomprehensible. The breakfast had a wide variety, but the taste was awful. The service staff, however, were friendly, especially during the busy check-out rush around noon, with countless bags. The front desk and concierge had ample staff who were proactive in helping guests store luggage, making the flow very smooth. There are hardly any dining options nearby, so we ate at the Shang Palace Chinese restaurant several times. The food was okay, just okay. The plain rice was inedible; stick to fried rice or stir-fried rice noodles. The beach and pool were nice, and the beautiful sunsets and coconut groves were unforgettable. In the lobby, I met another couple from Shanghai who were complaining about a formaldehyde smell in their room and requesting a room change, but it seemed their issue wasn't resolved.
JJeffrey~This is a second stay after the honey moon with my wife as 2 guests 12 years ago. We returned back as a family with kids and everything was still excellent. The resort had been changed from Gayana Eco Resort to Gayana Marine Resort, while there was no more Alu Alu Chinese Restaurant and remained Macac Restaurant and Latitude Bar.
Different from staying Ocean Villa previously, we stayed in Palm Villa for 2 days this time as we targeted for direct access to water with bigger room. Palm Villa was very comfortable and spacious with individual small swimming pool and non-framed ocean view. We loved the room so much. But the water level of my room was much deeper than Ocean Villa which could not stand. However this was particular good for taking a rest if we played kayaking for long time. Some guests were playing kayaking passing the room when we were sunbathing. This was interesting.
The sea was clear and transparent to the rocks, but occasionally saw plastic bag and small rubbish. But overall it was still good for kayaking and snorkeling during my stays.
What made us memorable included the quality of food and drink too. We had meal in all 3 periods from breakfast to dinner for 2 days, the general standard was very high that we experienced from Malay, Western to Chinese dishes. Ragu Pappardelle, Pizza, Chinese fried noodle, Malay Satay, breakfast set were superb. Thumb up for their wide selections of squeezed juice that blended freshly at bar without adding water, I especially loved the rare green apple juice and my kids watermelon. Semi-buffet breakfast also offered self-served orange juicer complimentarily so we could see 3-4 fresh oranges to 1 glass of juice. This was not common during my past experience.
A special highlight was given to staff courteous and patience. All staff crossing or serving us would greet and smile, it contributed a lot to my memorable stay.
AAnonymous UserBooked for romantic tent, same like the ad. Looks like a brand new tent, because the colour is still white compared to the others which is already yellowish and got a bit mould. Romantic tent have no shade, so the light shines through into the tent. Even so, the tent doesn't feel hot, the portable aircond keeps it cool inside. asked for keetle from the receptionist. need to ask for keys for private bathroom as they are having renovation during our stay.

AAnonymous UserThe hotel is located directly on Gaya Street, making it incredibly convenient. You can easily walk to the jetty from here, and there are two banks right behind the hotel for currency exchange. Across the street is a shopping mall, and Suria Sabah shopping center is also within walking distance. There's an Orange convenience store nearby where you can store luggage for free. The hotel itself is a bit older, but the higher floors are quiet.

Great
GGuest UserThis hotel was fantastic for relaxing! I chatted with a guy at the watersports center and learned they've been fully booked lately. But since the hotel is so big and the public areas are really well-maintained, with plenty of loungers and parasols, you can easily spend your whole day lounging from morning till afternoon. Check-in was a bit slow, but everyone was very polite, and they kindly extended my check-out to 4 PM as requested. There's a beautiful big tree with silk floss flowers that I took so many pictures of. The hotel offers a huge variety of activities; if you're willing to participate, every day will be super fulfilling. Just remember to book in advance! There are also many restaurants at the hotel; note that some are not open for lunch. All the staff members are incredibly nice. It's not just Koreans and Chinese here anymore; there are quite a few older Western guests too. Breakfast is much better than at Magellan. All in all, I highly recommend it for families and friends who want a lazy, relaxing getaway.
MMuhammad Damian SanI had an absolutely unforgettable experience at Sutera @ Mantanani Island. From the moment I arrived, I was completely mesmerized by the island’s beauty the crystal clear turquoise waters, soft pearly sand, and breathtaking views felt like something out of a dream. Every moment spent there was pure bliss.
What truly made the experience even more special was the warmth and friendliness of the staff. Their genuine smiles and welcoming hospitality made me feel right at home and added so much heart to the trip. Whether relaxing by the beach or simply soaking in the peaceful atmosphere, everything about Mantanani felt magical.
Overall, it was a perfect escape, and I truly enjoyed every second of my stay. Sutera @ Mantanani Island is a hidden gem, and without a doubt, I will be returning again in the future.
TTinazoutianxiaThe location is absolutely unbeatable, right next to Tanjung Aru Beach. While the facilities are quite dated, it's a charming old hotel that's still quite well-maintained. It boasts a beautiful Nanyang retro style. It can feel a bit deserted at night, but it's absolutely stunning during the day. With a bit of renovation or by marketing it as an Instagram-worthy spot, the owners could easily fill every room!

Positive Points:
1. Air-conditioning was very effective and kept the room comfortable throughout the stay.
2. Great window view – beautiful sea and jetty scenery that adds to the relaxing atmosphere. (see my attached picture)
3. Excellent location – conveniently close to eateries and the jetty, making it easy to get around.
4. Reasonably priced in-house food – offers good value for money for guests who prefer to dine in.
5. Complimentary extra bottled water was provided upon request, which was appreciated.
6. Friendly and helpful staff across all departments – from housekeeping, café, and maintenance to the front desk. Everyone was courteous and attentive.
7. Special mention to the chef – a very kind and gentlemanly person. On our first day, we ordered 6 fried eggs for breakfast, assuming they were included. The chef initially didn’t inform us of the RM2 charge per egg and kindly did not charge us for them. When we later tried to order again, he politely informed us about the charge. We truly appreciated his honesty and kind gesture.
8. very nice grilled meat at the roof cafe (5th floor). The promo price is 5 sticks for rm9.9 . worth to eat!
---
Areas for Improvement:
1. Limited breakfast buffet selection – mainly local dishes such as chicken, eggs, vegetables, rice, or noodles. While the food was tasty, there were no options like fresh milk, cereal, or egg station. Fruit choices were also limited to just bananas every day.
2. Window leakage during heavy rain – rainwater entered the room. However, the staff responded promptly and mopped the floor immediately.
3. No robe hooks in the bathroom – makes it inconvenient to hang clothes or towels.
4. Shortage of bath towels – clean towels were only available in the late afternoon after laundry was returned.
5. Extra blanket charge – an additional around rm50-60 was required if requesting one more blanket, which felt a bit expensive.
6. Low water pressure in the shower – the water flow was quite weak, making the shower experience less enjoyable.
7. Housekeeping quality needs improvement – there was sand in the room, and although we informed the staff, it was not cleaned properly even after the feedback.
Extra Tip for Travellers:
There’s no laundry shop in Semporna town, so do remember to bring enough clothes for your stay.
