Spring in coastal Maharashtra is when the Arabian Sea sparkles under clear skies ☀️🌺 – warm 28–35°C days, gentle sea breezes, blooming wildflowers along the hills, and epic sunsets that paint the horizon in orange and pink. We climbed to the Ratnagiri Lighthouse (Jayostute Lighthouse), a historic 1920s beacon perched on a hilltop overlooking the sea and the city.
The short drive up the winding road from Ratnagiri town offers stunning views – lush green hills, coconut palms swaying, and glimpses of the sea below 🌴🛣️. At the top, the white lighthouse stands tall with its classic red top, surrounded by manicured gardens and open lawns perfect for picnics. We walked the viewing platform as the spring sun lowered, watching the lighthouse cast long shadows and the Arabian Sea turn molten gold 🌅🏮.
From here, the 360° panorama is breathtaking – Ratnagiri city on one side, endless coastline stretching toward Ganpatipule and beyond, fishing boats dotting the water, and distant islands on the horizon ⛵🌊. We stayed till golden hour, the light turning everything cinematic – palm silhouettes against the fiery sky, the lighthouse glowing warmly, and that peaceful feeling of being on top of the world.
Spring’s clear weather made the views crisp – no haze, vibrant greens, and extended golden hour perfect for photos. We ended with fresh coconut water from a nearby vendor 🥥, watching the sun dip fully while the sea breeze cooled the air.
The lighthouse is free to visit (open mornings to evenings), and the sunset spot is one of Ratnagiri's best-kept secrets – romantic, scenic, and deeply relaxing.
If you're dreaming of hilltop lighthouses, Arabian Sea sunsets, and coastal Maharashtra serenity in spring, Ratnagiri Lighthouse is calling!
