Bijie travel guide and discussion

Axilixi Scenic Area, also known as Jiucaiping, is hailed as the "Roof of Guizhou." As the province's highest point, it offers a rare glimpse into China's stunning alpine prairies. ✨ Highlights 1. Alpine Prairie Scenery With its rolling green hills, windmills, grazing livestock, and winding roads, you don't need to travel to Inner Mongolia to experience the vastness of the plains. The undulating "rollercoaster road" shown in the photos is a must-visit social media hotspot. 2. The World’s Largest Sea of Wild Leek Flowers From late August to mid-September, the mountaintops are blanketed in vibrant purple wild leek flowers. This purple sea is the park's signature view. Outside of the blooming season, it remains a refreshing alpine pasture—perfect for cloud-watching, seeing cattle and sheep, and catching sunsets. 3. Travel Experience You can take a cable car to the summit, stroll along wooden boardwalks, or even drive along the prairie roads. The mountain air stays cool year-round, making it an ideal summer escape. 📌 Quick Tips · Location: Axilixi Scenic Area (Da Jiucaiping), Hezhang County, Bijie City, Guizhou Province. · The altitude is high and winds are strong, so pack a thick jacket regardless of when you visit. · It gets very crowded during the blooming season. Visit during the off-season for a peaceful experience watching the prairie and the sunset.

🌤️ Visiting Guizhou in September–October is amazing! The summer crowds have left, the autumn rain makes the mountains greener, the Huangguoshu Waterfall is still powerful, the Xiaoqikong scenic area is as blue as a filter, and the lights in Xijiang at night look like stars scattered across the mountain✨. I've been visiting Guizhou every autumn for years. I've written this guide to help you "avoid rushing and pitfalls"—just follow it~ 🍁 What to expect in Guizhou in September–October · September: Daytime temperatures in cities/scenic areas are around 20–26°C. When it rains, it drops to around 18°C, and it's even cooler in the mountains. · October: Mostly 15–22°C. It gets cold in the mornings and evenings around Fanjingshan, Leigongshan, and Zhijindong Cave, so bring a jacket for when the wind picks up. · Key takeaway: The saying "it doesn't stay sunny for three days" isn't a joke. There's plenty of autumn rain, but it's mostly showers, so it won't ruin your trip—just make sure you bring an umbrella. · Pros: Fewer crowds than in summer, hotel rates are better than in August, and the sour soup and rice noodles are at their best. Cons: Lots of winding mountain roads, so don't try to squeeze 4 distant attractions into one day. 🏔️ Choosing attractions by area (don't try to do it all in one trip) Guiyang base + surroundings · Jiaxiu Pavilion: Free night views, and it's very pleasant to catch a breeze by the Nanming River. · Qianlingshan Park: Very cheap admission. When watching the macaques, don't carry plastic bags—the monkeys will snatch them. · Qingyan Ancient Town: The town itself is worth a stroll. Just try a little of the pig's trotters, braised dishes, or rose candy; don't get locked into a bundled ticket. · Huaxi Yelang Valley: A niche stone art park. Admission is 20, and it's surprisingly fun for photos. Anshun waterfall route · Huangguoshu: Includes the Grand Waterfall, Doupotang, and Tianxingqiao. Admission starts at 160, or about 210 with the sightseeing bus bundle. The Water Curtain Cave is slippery when it rains, so put your phone in a waterproof bag. · Dragon Palace: Only consider this if you feel one day at Huangguoshu isn't enough. If it's your first time, prioritize Huangguoshu. Libo Karst · Xiaoqikong: Admission 120. Wolong Pond, the 68-Level Waterfalls, Cuigu, and the Water Forest are all worth it. Entering from the West Gate and exiting from the East Gate saves your legs. Wear non-slip sandals in the Water Forest, not leather shoes. · Maolan: Only go if you love primitive hiking; beginners can skip it. Southeast Guizhou culture · Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village: Admission 90, or about 120 with the sightseeing bus bundle. Just enjoy the night view from the observation deck, the Wind and Rain Bridge, and the old streets. Don't sign up for so-called "low-priced long-table banquets" that end up dragging you to buy silver jewelry. · Zhenyuan Ancient Town: The Wuyang River runs through the town. It's less commercialized than Xijiang. Staying for a night and taking a walk is very relaxing. · Zhaoxing Dong Village: Easy to get to from Congjiang Station. The Drum Towers, Dong songs, and Tang'an Terraced Fields with golden rice in autumn are much more comfortable than crowded spots. Tongren/Bijie add-ons · Fanjingshan: Seeing the Red Clouds Golden Summit depends on luck; the weather at the top is changeable. It's mostly cable car + walking. A windbreaker is a must. Don't force elderly people or children to climb the Golden Summit. · Zhijindong Cave: Admission 110. A solid choice for rainy days since underground caves aren't weather-dependent. · Wanfenglin: In the Xingyi direction. Autumn rice fields + cone-shaped peaks. Admission starts at 70. Cycling around slowly is more comfortable than rushing between attractions. 🚄 Transportation (easiest for independent travelers) · Arrive at Guiyang Longdongbao Airport. You can take the subway or a taxi in the city. If you want to do a loop, stay near Guiyang North Station—it's the most convenient hub for high-speed rail. · Huangguoshu: Guiyang North/Guiyang to Anshun West takes about 30 minutes at the fastest. From Anshun West, transfer to the direct scenic bus or take a taxi to the Huangguoshu Visitor Center. The whole trip takes about 1.5 hours. · Xiaoqikong: Guiyang North to Libo Station takes about 1.5–2.5 hours. From Libo Station, transfer to the direct bus to the West Gate, or take a bus/taxi to the East Gate distribution center. I recommend entering from the West Gate and exiting from the East Gate. · Xijiang: Guiyang North to Kaili South takes about 40 minutes. From Kaili South, transfer to the direct bus/coach to the Xijiang North Gate or West Gate, which takes about 40–60 minutes. If you have a lot of luggage, choose the North Gate—dragging a suitcase up stairs will make you cry. · Fanjingshan: Guiyang to Tongren Station/Tongren South, then transfer toward Jiangkou. The East Gate cable car is the main route. If it's your first time, don't try to force a complex loop yourself. · Driving tips: Guizhou is very mountainous. GPS sometimes loses signal in the mountains. Don't drive on winding mountain roads at night, and slow down when it rains. 🍜 What to eat (avoiding spicy pitfalls) · If you don't want Sour Soup Fish or Sour Soup Beef Offal, choose clear soup. If it's your first time having sour soup, order "mildly spicy." If you have a sensitive stomach, just say "no spice/less sour." · Changwang noodles, beef rice noodles, and lamb rice noodles: Essential for breakfast. Guiyang Old Town, Kaili, and Zunyi all have their own styles. · Siwawa (vegetable rolls): You wrap the vegetables yourself and pour on the sour and spicy sauce. If you don't eat spicy food, ask for a clear soup dipping sauce separately. · Laoguo (griddle pot): Liupanshui/Bijie styles are common. Potatoes, pork belly, and stinky tofu are all delicious. Don't order too much, or it will be too oily. · Qingyan braised pig's trotters, rose candy; try a little Xijiang Miao-style sour soup + glutinous rice wine; check the freshness of Zhenyuan tofu pudding/river fish. · Houttuynia cordata (fish mint) is the soul of the food but also a potential pitfall. If you don't eat it, say in advance: "No fish mint in any dipping sauces." 📅 How to plan a relaxing itinerary 3 days, 2 nights | First-timer's lazy version D1 Guiyang: Jiaxiu Pavilion + Qianlingshan + Qingyun Road/Erqi Road snacks, stay in Guiyang D2 Huangguoshu day trip: Grand Waterfall + Doupotang + Tianxingqiao, return to Guiyang or stay in Anshun D3 Qingyan half-day → return 5 days, 4 nights | Classic, no backtracking D1 Arrive in Guiyang, stroll around the city D2 Full day at Huangguoshu D3 Guiyang → Libo Xiaoqikong, stay in Libo County D4 Libo → Kaili → Xijiang Miao Village, evening night view from the observation deck, stay in the village/Kaili D5 Half day in Xijiang → return to Guiyang 7 days, in-depth | Scenery + culture Guiyang → Huangguoshu → Xiaoqikong → Xijiang → Zhenyuan → Fanjingshan → Guiyang; if you have more time, add in Xingyi Wanfenglin or Zhijindong Cave, but don't add Zhaoxing at the same time, or you'll be exhausted. ⚠️ Pitfalls to avoid (hard-learned lessons) 1. Lots of autumn rain: Bring a folding umbrella, a thin windbreaker, and non-slip shoes. The Water Curtain Cave at Huangguoshu, the Water Forest at Xiaoqikong, and the steps at Fanjingshan are all slippery. 2. Don't just buy the ticket for the Grand Waterfall at Huangguoshu. If it's your first time, buy the bundle that includes the sightseeing bus to save your legs. Enter the park early; tour groups are at their peak at noon. 3. Don't wear white sneakers in the water at Xiaoqikong. The stones in the Water Forest are covered in moss, and it's common to fall and get muddy. 4. When booking accommodation in Xijiang, check the distance to the "North Gate/West Gate/Observation Deck." Dragging luggage uphill will make you collapse. The stilt houses in the village have poor soundproofing, so bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper. 5. Ask before taking photos in Miao/Dong villages. Don't step on thresholds or touch headpieces. Follow instructions and don't take photos in ritual areas like during the Guzang Festival. 6. Ignore "low-priced chartered cars/free guides/discounted tickets" outside stations. Use official direct buses or book tickets through legitimate platforms. 7. State your tolerance for sour soup, fish mint, and chili paste in advance, or your non-local stomach might be running to the bathroom three times a day. 8. Check the weather before buying cable car tickets/making reservations for Fanjingshan. If it's rainy or foggy, you won't see anything at the top, so don't force the itinerary. 9. Attractions in Guizhou are far apart. Arranging to visit Huangguoshu, Xiaoqikong, and Xijiang in a single day is self-torture. Stick to at most one mountain, one water feature, and one village. 10. Ask if there's an elevator when booking accommodation in mountain areas. If you have to carry luggage up to the third or fourth floor of an old inn without an elevator, you'll really be cursing. Guizhou in September–October doesn't require a "check-in" style rush. Listening to the water at Huangguoshu, seeing the blue at Xiaoqikong, watching the lights at Xijiang, and seeing the river at Zhenyuan, with a bowl of noodles and a sip of sour soup in between—that's the most comfortable way to experience it🍂

The seriously underrated “Earth’s core canyon mystery box”! 18℃ natural air conditioning, the ultimate summer cool spot that cured my mental burnout Ladies, listen up! If your impression of Guizhou is still just the crowded Huangguoshu Falls, you’re really missing out! This time, I discovered a hidden gem next to Zhijin Cave — Zhijin Grand Canyon. Caves, underground rivers, natural bridges, and waterfalls all in one place, a geological wonder of “water above water, cave above cave, bridge above bridge.” The best part — it’s right next to Zhijin Cave, and buying a combo ticket is super cost-effective. The cave stays at a constant 15–18℃ year-round, feeling 10℃ cooler in summer. You can unlock a refreshing, soul-soothing summer trip in just one day and night on the weekend! 💦 1. Why is it the ultimate summer cool spot in Guizhou? Zhijin Grand Canyon stretches 3 kilometers and is a key part of the Zhijin Cave World Geopark, just 2 kilometers from the Zhijin Cave scenic area. The canyon floor stays at a constant temperature, feeling much cooler than the city in summer. 🚣 Underground river boat tour, journey through the earth’s core Take a boat through the underground river. Mist floats over the water, soft light shines on the karst rock walls, and reflections dance on the water’s surface. Every photo looks like a masterpiece from a secret world. The boat tour is a separate ticket, available for purchase on-site after entering. ☀️ Swallow Cave + Sky crack, a visual feast From afar, Swallow Cave looks like a giant bridge spanning the sky, with hundreds of white-rumped swifts circling the entrance. When sunlight streams through the cracks, rainbows appear. At the sky crack skylight, natural light pours through the canyon’s top crevice, creating strong contrasts of light and shadow. Every snapshot looks like a high-end photo. 🌉 Natural bridge mountain trail, no tired legs The trail is about 2 kilometers long. It’s recommended to start from the exit and go backward. Take the Golden Valley Stairway down to the canyon floor, then stroll along the mountain trail. The shifting light and shadows on the rock walls make it easy and enjoyable to walk and take photos. 2. How to get there? Practical info 📍 Guanzhai Township, Zhijin County, Bijie City, Guizhou, 2 kilometers from Zhijin Cave scenic area. 🚗 By car: Navigate to “Zhijin Grand Canyon.” About 1.5 hours from Guiyang, 1 hour from Bijie city center. You can park at Zhijin Cave parking lot 3 (with fast chargers) and take the scenic area shuttle bus to the canyon. 🚌 Bus: Use the “Qianshuang Tourism” mini program to book a round-trip bus from Guiyang for 99 yuan per person (8:00 AM departure, 4:00 PM return). 🎟️ Ticket reference: 105 yuan per person (includes shuttle bus + Golden Valley Stairway). Seniors and children 60 yuan per person. Strongly recommend buying the Zhijin Cave + Grand Canyon combo ticket — it’s more cost-effective than buying separately. ⏰ Opening hours: 8:30 AM–6:00 PM (last entry at 4:00 PM). Plan for 1–1.5 hours to explore. ⚠️ Safety checklist: Wear non-slip sports shoes! The cave floor is damp and slippery year-round. Bring a light jacket (15–18℃ inside, it gets chilly if you stay long). Bring a flashlight (the cave is dark, faces can look shadowed in photos). Going backward is easier, but expect elevator queues during peak hours (11:00 AM–4:00 PM), so try to avoid those times. 🏡 Accommodation recommendation: Staying near Zhijin Cave is most convenient, with many guesthouses and hotels within walking distance. Hotels near Zhijin Cave (about 60 meters from the visitor center, budget-friendly, opened in 2018); Yuanyuan Leisure Guesthouse (three-star, signature dish is firewood chicken); for a nicer stay, choose hotels in Zhijin County town, about 20 minutes by car. Final thoughts Zhijin Grand Canyon isn’t a “trendy check-in spot.” It’s a secret world where 18℃ underground river boat tours dance with white-rumped swifts, where rainbows suddenly appear when sunlight pierces Swallow Cave’s entrance. The combo ticket is great value, the trail is easy on your legs, and it’s the ultimate summer cool spot — this kind of refreshing relaxation can’t be bought in the city! 💦🌿 With summer in full swing and the canyon cool, ladies, remember your non-slip shoes and jacket — just go for it!

🌟 Explore the Underground Heavenly Palace: I Saw the "Tree Rings" of the Earth in Zhijin Cave If you say you don’t need to see other mountains after visiting Huangshan, then after visiting Zhijin Cave, you really don’t need to see other caves. Walking into this "King of Karst Caves," I finally understood what "nature’s masterpiece" means—a 250 million-year-old underground palace, every step is breathtaking. 🚗 Transportation Guide Starting from Guiyang, drive via the Hukun Expressway and then the Xiarong Expressway, exit at Zhijin Cave, about 120 kilometers in total, taking around 2.5 hours. If you don’t drive, there is a dedicated bus from Guiyang Jinyang Bus Station to Zhijin, departing every hour, ticket price about 45 RMB, and it takes 2 hours to reach the scenic area entrance, very convenient. 🎫 Ticket Information Daytime operating hours (from February 24, 2026): 09:00-16:30 entry Ticket price: 100 RMB/person (does not include 28 RMB sightseeing bus and 10 RMB safety service package) Special reminder: You must enter the park according to your reserved time slot. If you miss it, you need to refund and rebook. Entry is by ID card, and it’s safer to book in advance via the "Zhijin Cave Scenic Area" official WeChat account. 🌈 Three Must-See Wonders Overlord Helmet: A giant stalagmite 14 meters high, shaped like an ancient general’s helmet, a world-class treasure guarding the cave. Standing at its base, the guide said it has been growing for 500,000 years—you instantly understand the "weight of time." According to local Miao legends, this is the helmet left behind after a battle between the Yelang Kingdom general and an evil dragon. Silver Rain Tree: A 17-meter-high white stalagmite, crystal clear like silver rain. It grows only 1 centimeter every 100 years and took 150,000 years to reach its current form. When the light shines on it, I literally held my breath—the Miao elders say it’s the Dragon King’s jade hairpin, and I believed them. Crystal Palace: Under dreamy blue and white lights, the stalactites look like an ice and snow kingdom. The temperature here is slightly lower, but it’s as beautiful as a fairy tale world, perfect for photos. 💡 Touring Tips (Learned the Hard Way) Wear the right shoes! The cave floor is slippery, with thousands of steps up and down. I saw someone almost slip. Be sure to wear non-slip sports shoes, and definitely avoid high heels or slippers. Bring a jacket: The cave temperature is around 16°C, like natural air conditioning in summer. If you’re sensitive to cold, a light jacket is a must. Tour time: The route is about 3 kilometers one way, normally takes 2 hours, but if you want to take photos, allow 3 hours. Walking 15,000 steps will make your legs shake, but it’s totally worth it! No signal: There’s no cell phone signal inside the cave, so arrange a meeting point with your family in advance. You can follow the official account for an audio guide. 🍜 Food Recommendations After the tour, be sure to try Shuibawan in Zhijin County—a local traditional banquet with eight light and delicious soup dishes. Recommended is Yuanjun Shuibawan, said to be a restored version of Ding Baozhen’s family feast. Also try buckwheat jelly and rolling rice balls, cheap and tasty! 🏨 Accommodation Suggestions For better accommodation, choose Zhijin Hotel (four-star, Miao and Yi cultural theme), 12 kilometers from the scenic area, about 20 minutes by taxi. There are also farm stays near the scenic area, with basic conditions but convenient. 📝 My Honest Feelings Before entering the cave, I thought, "It’s just a cave," but I was proven wrong immediately. The first hall stunned me—so tall it felt like an alien world, so wide it could fit dozens of floors. When I reached the Silver Rain Tree, a beam of light shone down from above, and the shock of that moment can’t be captured in photos. What moved me most was the Overlord Helmet—500,000 years, growing drop by drop. Human history is only a few thousand years; in front of it, we are just fleeting visitors. Final reminder: It’s crowded in peak season, so it’s best to enter right when it opens for a doubled experience. Bring a good mood and go on a 250 million-year date with the Earth✨ 📍 Address: Guanzhai Miao Ethnic Township, Zhijin County, Bijie City. ⚠️ Note: For ticket refunds, operate via "My Orders" on the booking platform.

The weather during the blooming season can be changeable, so bring rain gear and a warm jacket. Most importantly, please protect this beautiful sea of flowers—do not pick or trample them. Baili Azalea, looking forward to our next encounter!

When you think of karst caves in Guizhou, which place comes to mind? Is it Zhijin Cave, hailed by National Geographic China as the "King of Chinese Karst Caves," known for the saying "Once you visit Zhijin, you won’t want to see other caves"? Actually, in Bijie, there is another place called Jiudongtian, which enjoys the titles of "China’s Karst Encyclopedia" and "Karst Geological Museum." · Liuchong River flows underground beneath a mountain ridge, where nature has carved out nine huge skylights. When boating on the river, the sky appears and disappears intermittently, giving Jiudongtian its name. ⛰ First Cave Heaven: Moon Palace Heaven – Dry cave Stalactites hang upside down, and stone stalagmites stand tall. ⛰ Second Cave Heaven: Thunder Heaven – Waterfall Rushing torrents roar like thunder. ⛰ Third Cave Heaven: Golden Light Heaven – Water cave Sunlight beams through the sinkhole at the cave’s top, reflecting golden light on the water surface and shimmering on the rock walls. ⛰ Fourth Cave Heaven: Jade Universe Heaven – Karst cave Also called Linglong Cave, it is small but extraordinary, combining stalagmites, stone pillars, and stalactites in a compact and exquisite formation full of charm. ⛰ Fifth Cave Heaven: Gourd Heaven – An Lake The pool’s shape resembles a gourd, narrowing at the top and widening below. ⛰ Sixth Cave Heaven: Elephant King Heaven – Natural Bridge The cave entrance looks like an elephant standing in the water; one side is tall and wide, while the other connects with the fifth cave’s two entrances. ⛰ Seventh Cave Heaven: Cloud Soaring Heaven – Dry cave The cave walls are steep; swallows nest above, and bats rest in the dark corners. When the swallows leave their nests, they flap upward as if soaring into the clouds. ⛰ Eighth Cave Heaven: Treasure Heaven – Underground river Named because the An family, Ming Dynasty’s local governors, supposedly hid a large treasure here. The karst formations on the cave walls are lifelike and dazzling, making the boat tour very interesting. ⛰ Ninth Cave Heaven: Grand View Heaven – Dry cave Also called Immortal Cave, looking through the Natural Bridge’s archway into the distance reveals a red cliff resembling a map of China, forming the scenic "Divine Red Cliff of the Divine Land." · 📝 About which entrance to use: ① The East Gate leads past the West Gate and then continues 11 kilometers on mountain roads, about a half-hour drive. ② I entered through the East Gate, walked 5 minutes to the First Cave Heaven, passed through the Second Cave Heaven, then took a boat to tour the Third through Eighth Cave Heavens, got off at the Ninth Cave Heaven, and walked back—about an hour’s hike back to the East Gate. ③ Entering from the West Gate requires taking a sightseeing bus. · 📍 Jiudongtian Scenic Area: Changsha Village, Maochang Town, Dafang County, Bijie City, Guizhou Province 🎟 Tickets: 90 RMB at West Gate (includes sightseeing bus), 70 RMB at East Gate 🛳 Boat rides: 80 RMB one way, 120 RMB round trip ⏰ Opening hours: 08:30–17:30, last entry at 16:30 🅿️ Parking fee: 10 RMB

Hi, I’m your travel blogger chasing flower seas~ Every year from March to April, the Baili Azalea in Bijie, Guizhou, transforms 125.8 square kilometers of mountains and fields into the "Earth's Colorful Ribbon."
