2024 Bolzano Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in November)
Today's Weather
Mostly cloudy 1-14℃
There must be hundreds of small wooden cabins at the Seiner Alm in South Tyrol. Its beautiful here in summer, but when everything is covered with snow I like it even better.
## [Bolzano, meets the "Olympic town" in Italy]
Bolzano is the capital of South Tyrol in northern Italy, close to the Austrian border and north-northwest of Venice. Since 1964 it has been the bishop's residence of the newly established Catholic Church of the State of Polzano. It is a tourist attraction and is known for its attractions in the Alps. It is also the only city in Italy that speaks German. The street name is bilingual and is a small antique town. Similar to most European towns, there are churches, vintage buildings, and a square.
There is a saying that Bolzano is a very strange city. It is close to Austria and has many ski resorts. Most of the locals speak German and the restaurant menu also has German. It seems to the Italians that there is a German sentiment; in the eyes of the Germans, it is a good place to spend a holiday in Italy. However, for our rushed tourists, the feeling is not strong, only that the architectural style of the building is indeed full of the style of the Austrian town.
The town is also in the ZTL area, so I found an underground car park to park the car and walk to Watt Square. Bolzano Cathedral is right next to the Walter Square, a Romanesque church that was built in the 12th century and is considered one of the most outstanding Gothic buildings. Watt Square is named after the European medieval poet Walther von der Vogelweide, standing in the middle of the square. There are restaurants and restaurants around the square. The statue is backed by flowers and looks forward to the majestic cathedral.
Due to its border with Austria, it is also compatible with many Austrian styles. The building is full of the style of the Austrian town, and the goods on the street are also full of German and Austrian characteristics. Even some snacks continue the tradition of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
A slice of Bavaria in Italy
Walking around the Northern Italian town you will be forgiven for thinking you were just outside Munich or perhaps Austria. This delightful alpine town has plenty of things to see and do.
The South Tirol museum of archeology gives fascinating insight into the forensic science used to understand how Otzi the iceman lived and died over 5000 years ago.
Taken the cable car from the city centre to over 1000m gives an incredible view of not just the city itself but the surrounding, imposing Alps.

In this magical land, Val di Funes, the Funes Valley, is an unmissable place. It is located under the Geisler Peaks and is known as the "Pearl of South Tyrol." Here, you can feel the most primitive breath of nature. 🏞️🌲🌼
Located in the Funes Valley, Chiesa di Santa Maddalena, the Santa Maddalena Church, is a masterpiece of late Gothic architecture. It stands quietly on the mountain, the most splendid place in the small town of Santa Maddalena. ⛪🏞️🏰
Another must-see is Chiesa di San Giovanni, the Church of St. John. Surrounded by mountains, this church is like a jewel embedded in the wilderness, affectionately known as the "Lonely Church" due to its unique geographical location. 🏞️⛪🌄
Next is Lago di Braies, the Braies Lake, known as one of the most beautiful lakes in Italy. Located at an altitude of 1500 meters, the lake is clear and bright, with wooden boathouses and rentable wooden boats adding a poetic touch to the scenery. 🌊🚣♂️🏞️
Tre Cime di Lavaredo, the Three Peaks, are famous for their peculiar shape. They are like fingers reaching for the sky and have graced countless travel magazine covers. 🏔️📸⛰️
Finally, we must mention Seceda, the Blade Mountain. This peak reaches an altitude of 2500 meters, and you can easily reach the top by cable car. The cable car center is located in the town of Ortisei and has two sections. You can choose different routes depending on whether you want to hike up the mount
