Daqing travel guide and discussion

As an industrial worker who grew up hearing "Learn from Daqing in Industry," I made this special trip to Daqing just to visit the Iron Man Wang Jinxi Memorial Hall, fulfilling a promise to the passionate memories of my youth. ✅ Must-know tips before you go Reservation: Free admission. Please make a real-name reservation in advance via the "Iron Man Wang Jinxi Memorial Hall" WeChat official account. You must bring your ID card and show your reservation code to enter Opening hours: 9:00 AM–4:30 PM. Last entry at 4:00 PM. Closed on Mondays (except for public holidays). We recommend checking the latest official announcements before you leave to avoid a wasted trip Transportation: Bus: Take route 6, 68, or Express Line 5 to "Iron Man Memorial Hall Station." It's a 200m walk after getting off Driving: Navigate directly to the memorial hall address. There is a dedicated free parking lot on-site 🔥 Must-see exhibits for industrial workers "Oil Spirit" relief in the preface hall: A 7m-high and 27m-wide bronze-colored group portrait. The figures of 52 oil battle heroes are frozen on the wall. Standing in front of it, you are instantly struck by its majestic power "Human-powered transport" scene restoration: A complete recreation of the scene where, without machinery, workers relied solely on manual prying, rolling, and pulling to transport dozens of tons of drilling rigs to the well site. Veteran workers can instantly understand the hardships of those days just by standing here Iron Man artifact exhibition area: Old work clothes covered in patches, a brake handle polished smooth, and notebooks filled with drilling data. Each item is a vivid testament to the "Three Olds and Four Stricts" spirit of seeking truth 47-step entrance: Representing the Iron Man's short but profound 47-year life. Every step feels like a conversation with those glorious years 🚶 Recommended tour route We recommend strolling through in the order of the preface hall → the four main themed exhibition halls. Allow 1.5–2 hours for the full tour. After you finish, the spacious Iron Man Square is right across the street. You can stand on the square and look back at the memorial hall to see its unique architectural design—shaped like the character "Gong" (Industry) from above and "Ren" (Person) from the side—to better understand the profound meaning of this memorial hall dedicated to workers. 💡 Nearby attractions If you have extra time, you can combine this with the Daqing Oilfield History Exhibition Hall and the Daqing Petroleum Science and Technology Museum to create a complete one-day tour of industrial spirit, fully rounding out your memories of the oil industry from that era.

📍 [Binzhou Railway Songhua River Bridge], commonly known as the "Old River Bridge," is located on the east side of Stalin Park in Harbin's Daoli District. It spans the Songhua River right next to the Chinese Eastern Railway Park, where every river breeze feels like a story from the past. Built in 1901 alongside the Chinese Eastern Railway, this was the first steel bridge to span the Songhua River. It stretches about 1,027 meters and features 19 steel truss spans—the southern section uses Belgian curved chord trusses, while the northern section features Russian Warren trusses. With its stone piers and riveted steel frame, it was constructed by battling the riverbed with caissons and ice rafts. It remains the most iconic landmark of the Chinese Eastern Railway—truly impressive. Its history is legendary. It carried Tsarist Russian broad-gauge trains, was restored in just 84 days by the Northeast Field Army in 1948, and even transported the Daqing drilling team and special diplomatic trains to the Soviet Union. It wasn't until the final passenger train crossed in 2014 that it officially retired, leaving its tracks to history. Today, the Old River Bridge has been transformed into a pedestrian bridge within the Chinese Eastern Railway Park. The original tracks remain, and glass viewing sections have been added, allowing you to look down at the rushing river below. Even better, it stands side-by-side with the new Harbin-Qiqihar high-speed railway bridge downstream—where 1901 rivets meet the lights of modern high-speed trains. It’s the perfect spot to capture a century of Harbin’s history in a single, atmospheric shot.

Before going to Daqing, I thought it was just an industrial city of pump jacks and oil fields. After visiting, I admit I was shallow. But some hard truths need to be said upfront—Daqing isn't the kind of instantly stunning tourist city; you need to approach it differently to appreciate it. Some hard truths Hard truth 1: Attractions are too scattered, it's really tiring without a car Daqing's urban area is large, with attractions spread across districts like Sartu, Ranghulu, Longfeng, and Lindian County. The Iron Man Memorial Hall is in Ranghulu, Longfeng Wetland is in Longfeng District, and Lianhuan Lake Hot Spring is in Lindian County, with taxi fares easily costing dozens of yuan. There are buses, but they are infrequent and have long wait times. If you don't drive yourself or hire a car, you'll spend most of your day just on the road. Hard truth 2: Don't expect viral appeal Daqing doesn't have those Instagrammable spots where every photo is a masterpiece. Its beauty is simple and quiet—reeds swaying in the wind in the wetlands, mammoth skeletons standing silently in the museum, and yellowed old photos in the Iron Man Memorial Hall. If you're chasing viral shots, you might be disappointed. If you're willing to take your time, it has a lot to offer. Hard truth 3: Late September to early October is really cold According to the weather forecast, the low temperature in Daqing at the end of September has already dropped to 3–5°C, with daytime temperatures only reaching 13–16°C. When the wind blows, it feels even colder. A light down jacket or thick coat is essential gear, don't just bring a trench coat. Also, there are frequent showers during this period, so carry an umbrella. Hard truth 4: Some exhibition halls are closed on Mondays The Iron Man Wang Jinxi Memorial Hall, Daqing Museum, and others are closed on Mondays. If you go on a Monday, you basically can't see the core cultural attractions. Be sure to avoid Mondays for your itinerary. But to be fair: Daqing is worth visiting It has the most hardcore red culture in the country The Iron Man Wang Jinxi Memorial Hall is China's first workers' memorial hall, with over 490 photos and 1,170 artifacts telling the history of the oil battle where people "pulled and carried" equipment. The Daqing Museum houses the most complete real mammoth fossil skeleton in China, 4.5m tall and 7.5m long, with over 90% fossil content, known as the "China Elephant King." You can't see these things anywhere else. It has severely underrated wetland ecology Longfeng Wetland is the largest urban wetland in the country, just 8km from the city center, with 5,050 hectares of reed marshes where egrets, wild ducks, and red-crowned cranes roam. Strolling along the wooden boardwalk, you're surrounded by healing green, completely unlike an industrial city. Travel guide (no-trap version) Transport · High-speed rail: Prioritize Daqing East Station, which is close to the wetlands, museum, and commercial areas · Within the city: Short-distance taxis are cheap, you can get there for the starting fare; for remote attractions (hot springs, grasslands), hiring a car for 3+ people is the most cost-effective · Avoid: Stay away from illegal taxis at the station and low-priced one-day tours; they are all shopping traps Accommodation · First choice: Sartu Wanda commercial area: 120–180 yuan/night, with full coverage of food and supermarkets, and close to Liming Lake, the museum, and Longfeng Wetland · Second choice: Ranghulu District: Right next to the Iron Man Memorial Hall, with many local old-school restaurants and a lively atmosphere · Unique experience: Lindian hot spring homestays, soak in the hot spring after exploring the city, most include hot spring tickets 3-day, 2-night itinerary (copy directly) Day 1 Oil culture line · Morning: Iron Man Wang Jinxi Memorial Hall (free, official scheduled guided tours are professional enough) · Noon: Eat local home-cooked food in the old Ranghulu area · Afternoon: Petroleum Science and Technology Museum (all indoors, a must for families, with 4D movies) · Evening: Watch the sunset at Liming Lake, Daqing's "urban Erhai Lake" · Night: Eat Northeast snacks at the Wanda night market Day 2 Wetland ecology line · Morning: Longfeng Wetland (fewer people and mosquitoes in the early morning, walk the wooden boardwalk to see reeds and birds) · Noon: Pit barbecue! A Daqing municipal intangible cultural heritage, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, roasted lamb chops, pit-roasted potatoes · Afternoon: Daqing Museum (mammoth fossils + VR experience) · Evening: Take photos at Lande Lake Art Center or Binzhou Courtyard Day 3 Hot spring finale · Head to Lianhuan Lake or Heming Lake to soak in natural hot springs, a relaxing autumn soak · Stop by Dorbod Grassland on the way to ride horses and enjoy the breeze · Return trip What to eat (don't miss out) · Pit barbecue: Daqing's signature, originating from field roasting during the oil battle; order the free-range chicken, potatoes, and sweet potatoes without hesitation · Iron pot stew: The soul of Northeast cuisine, eat until you're full for 30–60 yuan per person · Petroleum ice cream: Museum creative product, try it for the novelty One-sentence summary: Daqing isn't a viral city, but a treasure trove destination with depth, warmth, and a price to pay. Avoid Mondays, bring enough warm clothes, and budget for a car rental. What it gives you—the Iron Man spirit, mammoth fossils, vast wetlands—you really can't get anywhere else. Go now while there are plenty of Mid-Autumn and National Day activities and before the crowds hit.

On the afternoon of October 2, 2026, I woke up from a nap to such sunny weather that I really wanted to go out for a walk. Where to? My daughter suggested the City Forest Park, so off we went. The entrance was planted with small chrysanthemums of various colors, and in the distance, a large Golden Retriever walked by. The rockery was covered in bright red Virginia creeper, also known as five-leaved ivy. Every year, it turns red the earliest and most brilliantly. The national flag, dappled with tree shadows in the sunlight, signaled the festive atmosphere. No matter where I am, seeing the national flag always makes me feel warm, comfortable, calm, and secure inside. I wonder if you all feel the same? The trees were still quite green that day. Today (October 9), they have probably yellowed a bit. The most common trees in the urban forest are elms. There are century-old "elm kings," as well as smaller elms of various ages planted over time, growing in their own shapes, free and flourishing. Next are poplars and willows, which can be called the "iron triangle" of Heilongjiang trees. Plus, there are over 40 species and more than 140,000 trees in total, including Scots pine, spruce, and white birch. Blue skies and green trees—refreshing and pleasant. There is a bit too much algae on the surface of Puxin Lake, making it look a bit weathered. Pump jacks are the symbol of the Oil City. In the past, they usually took turns working, but this time both were operating, contributing to the country once again. Behind it, the Daqing TV Tower was built in September 1989. It has a total height of 260 meters (159-meter tower body + 101-meter antenna mast). When completed, it was the third-tallest in Asia, the second-tallest in China, and the tallest all-steel radio and television tower in Heilongjiang Province. It, too, once had its glory days, just like our city. Is this plant with such neatly arranged leaves called Caragana? There are many along the roadside. As I walked, I suddenly spotted a fuzzy little head on a small rock by the lake. Is it a little squirrel? I quickly gestured to my daughter, we quietly walked closer, and I took out my phone to zoom in. Haha, it was indeed a little chipmunk, squatting on the rock and basking in the sun. It looks so good! Personally, I think chipmunks are the best-looking squirrels. So cute. A puppy ran over, and the little mouse stood up, ready to jump away at any moment. Fortunately, the puppy didn't notice it; it sniffed the ground a few times and ran off, so the little mouse continued to lie there and bask in the sun. Walking on the beautiful forest path, I felt happy and peaceful. I don't know why this pavilion is called the Yingxiang Pavilion. Could there have been elephants here before? This cluster of intertwined large elm trees is the most beautiful scenery in the entire park. Guocheng Temple is located within the City Forest Park and is a place of practice dedicated to the Pure Land school of Buddhism. It is known for its "supportive chanting for the dying to attain rebirth" and is hailed as the "Amitabha Buddha Reception Station." The temple is built magnificently and is quiet and solemn. The Mountain Gate, Hall of Heavenly Kings, and Mahavira Hall are all under renovation; currently, only the Sutra Library at the very back is open. "Selflessness and benefiting others" must be the fundamental essence of Buddhist practice. Because of the renovations, I came out through a side door onto a path I don't usually take, and I got lost again! Turning around, I saw the main entrance, shaded by a century-old elm tree. Ha, this is the path we used to take. I know the way now. The Daqing Martyrs' Monument stands in the central area of the City Forest, surrounded by lush pines and cypresses. It is mainly to commemorate the heroic martyrs who gave their lives for Daqing and the country's construction during different historical periods, such as the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the War of Liberation, and the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea. Today, the country is at peace. May the martyrs be immortal.

Amuta Tourist Resort: The "grassland on the water" on the Dorbod Grassland Driving west from downtown Daqing for about 1 hour, the oil pumps outside the window gradually thin out, replaced by stretches of meadows and a shimmering horizon in the distance. When the car turns onto the fork north of Hujitumo Town in the Dorbod Mongol Autonomous County, a peninsula surrounded by lake water unfolds deep in the grassland—you have arrived at Amuta. "Amuta" means "delicious" in the Mongolian language. It was named for the peninsula's lush water and grass, deep and clear lakes, and abundant fish and resources. Surrounded by water on 3 sides, over 100,000 mu of water encircles 6,800 mu of primitive meadows, which locals call the "grassland on the water." Standing on this grassland, the water glimmers nearby, and the wind coming off the lake carries a moist, grassy scent, quite different from the dry grasslands found elsewhere. Grassland and water grow together There are lakes on the east, west, and north sides of the peninsula, with the water surrounding the grassland in the middle. Wildflowers are scattered across the meadows; July and August are when they are in full bloom, spreading out in layers of color. Waterfowl frequently land and take off by the lake; wild geese, ducks, and red-billed gulls forage in the shallow water. Occasionally, a red-crowned crane flies up from deep within the reeds, its wings skimming the water and leaving a thin trail. The Eye of Amuta: A dome growing on the grassland Walking deep into the peninsula along the meadows, you can see a domed building standing by the lake from afar. The entire building features transparent glass curtain walls on all 4 sides, and the curved dome has clean lines, looking like a half-open eye from a distance. Walking inside, the grassland and lake surface flood into your view from all directions, and the wind passes through the gaps in the curtain walls, carrying the rustling sound of grass leaves. The design inspiration is drawn from the ancient circular totems of yurts, with daylight falling from the dome and casting slowly moving light spots on the ground. Some people stand inside for a long time, saying it feels like standing in a glass box wrapped by the grassland. Yurts and pasture Groups of white yurts are scattered along the lakeside. These felt tents are more spacious than traditional yurts and have been modernized inside; some even have skylights, allowing you to see the stars while lying inside at night. The yurts are connected by wooden boardwalks, and walking on them, you can see herds of horses grazing nearby, their manes blowing in the wind. Things to do There is plenty to do in the resort. Horseback riding and archery are traditional activities. The horses at the stable are gentle; you can have someone lead you for a ride as the meadows slowly recede beneath your feet. The petting zoo is home to sika deer and other small animals; if you reach out near the fence, they will come over to sniff you. You can rent bicycles by the lake to ride slowly along the water's edge, watching waterfowl land and take off. The Hasar Sacrificial Palace is one of the largest of its kind in the country, housing artifacts such as a seated statue of Hasar, ox carts, and war drums, with daily blessing ceremonies. You can experience some handicrafts in the intangible cultural heritage workshop, and Mongolian-style travel photography is also a popular choice for many. Lakeside sunset and camping Evening is the most beautiful time on the grassland. The lakeside Sunset Bar is built by the water, with the bar counter facing the lake to the west. As the sun sinks, the entire lake is dyed golden red, and light passes through glass cups onto the wooden tables; some people hold their cups for a long time without drinking. Moonlight yurts and campsites are scattered along the lake. After dark, bonfires are lit, the firelight reflecting on the white felt walls of the yurts, and people sit by the fire chatting, their voices carried away by the wind. Practical information The resort is located on the north side of Hujitumo Town, Dorbod Mongol Autonomous County. It takes about 1 hour to drive from downtown Daqing and about 3 hours via expressway from Harbin. It is open all year round, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily. The temperature difference on the grassland is greater than in the city; it is sunny during the day in summer, but gets cool when the wind picks up in the evening, so bringing a light jacket is a safe bet. The flowers on the grassland are in full bloom in July and August, while the meadows turn yellow in September and October, offering a different kind of quiet color. Most of the paths by the lake and on the meadows are dirt roads and wooden boardwalks, so wearing comfortable shoes makes walking easy. When walking back from the lakeside, the sun has already dipped below the horizon, and the light on the meadows dims layer by layer. The outlines of the yurts gradually blur in the twilight, with only a few lights glowing, scattered near and far along the lake. The herds of horses are still grazing on the meadows, unhurried. This grassland, surrounded by water on 3 sides, has lain here for a long time and will continue to do so.

Daqing's city identity is defined not only by oil but also by the wetland ecosystem nurtured by millions of years of sedimentation. Tracing the origins of oil, this once-vibrant treasure trove of ancient flora and fauna has become the source of the Daqing Museum's collection. Located in the Sartu District of Daqing, this national first-grade museum is unlike traditional prefecture-level city museums. This museum in a city that has existed for only a few decades focuses on the Quaternary paleoenvironment, paleozoology, and paleoanthropology of Northeast China. With a collection of over 200,000 fossils and artifacts, this is the defining feature of this unique museum. 📍 A geological scroll of the Quaternary period: The first permanent exhibition hall, "Northeast Quaternary Natural Environment," showcases the ancient Quaternary paleo-lake environment from 2.6 million years ago. Through the restoration of lake and wetland landscapes, paired with complete stratigraphic core samples extracted from thousands of meters underground, it demonstrates the formation and evolution of the ancient paleo-lake. The former wetland grasslands, now buried deep underground, not only record ancient climate changes but also serve as the precursor to oil formation. 📍 A fossil kingdom of mammoth herds: The second permanent exhibition hall, "Northeast Quaternary Mammals," is the most stunning core exhibition area of the entire museum. It houses over 100,000 fossils, and its collection of the mammoth-woolly rhinoceros fauna is the largest in the country. The museum's treasures are two mammoth skeleton fossils with extremely high completeness, their massive bones standing tall under the lights. The exhibition hall also features a stampeding herd composed of 50 bison fossils, as well as a "bison skull wall" made of 105 Northeast bison skull fossils, showcasing the magnificent vitality that has spanned millions of years here. 📍 Also, the spark of humanity: The third permanent exhibition hall, "Ancient Human Civilization in the Daqing Region," shifts the focus from ancient giant beasts to the long history of human activity. It is divided into four special topics: ancient humans in Daqing, Bronze Age culture, ethnic integration during the Liao, Jin, and Yuan dynasties, and post-station culture. It displays a large number of microlithic tools, Baijinbao culture relics, and pottery and bronze ware from the Liao, Jin, and Yuan dynasties, also reflecting the cultural context preserved in this emerging city. Additionally, the museum offers oil-themed ice cream and drinks in a sleek black color, which are quite tasty.

Daqing Oilfield History Museum: A red-walled courtyard house, housing the memories of the years spent searching for oil on the wilderness Passing by Zhongqi Road in the Sartu District of Daqing, you will find a courtyard with red walls and red tiles, quietly hidden among the trees. The walls are not high, and the facade is understated. Walking inside, you discover that this was the former command center of the Daqing Oilfield Campaign, known as "Courtyard No. 2." In 2006, it was converted into a memorial museum themed on the oil industry on its original site. Walk along a bronze path first Walking from the outside in, you will find a path paved with bronze under your feet. The bronze plates are engraved with years and major events, arranged year by year, from 1959 all the way to the museum entrance. When stepping on them, you can feel that the surface of the bronze plates has been polished to a shine, while the edges still retain a rough texture. The path is not long, but walking on it feels like flipping through time from the beginning. A core sample The first thing that makes visitors stop in the exhibition hall is a small core sample. It is sandstone, 5 cm in diameter, 9 cm long, and weighs less than 200 grams. It was taken from a thousand meters underground in the Songliao Basin and is the core sample from the discovery well, Songji No. 3. The stone is not large, with a rough cross-section, bearing dark brown oil stains. In 1959, it was in the stratum where this stone was located that oil testing produced an industrial oil flow. The exhibition hall's lights shine on this stone, and in the adjacent display case, there are oil sand samples from that year—brownish-yellow, full of oil, and if you get close, you can smell a faint scent. Exhibition route in the courtyard The museum's exhibition halls are distributed across several rooms in the courtyard. The area is not large, but the exhibition route is arranged compactly. The themed exhibition is called "Years of Daqing," laid out in a combination of chronological and thematic ways. The display cases contain old items from the campaign period—enamel mugs, old work uniforms, and handwritten notebooks with yellowed, curled pages. One room restores an office from that time, with simple tables and chairs, an oil lamp and an old-fashioned telephone on the table, and faded pictures on the wall. The lighting is set to be warm, and when walking inside, your footsteps will unconsciously become lighter. Miniature scenes and sculptures The exhibition hall is interspersed with several miniature scenes. One of them recreates the scene of the first shipment of crude oil—a train of oil tankers slowly driving out of the oil depot. The scale of the figures and the train is small, but the postures are clear. Next to it is a group of sculptures showing workers unloading equipment on the wilderness. The clay figures are bent over, with ropes straining against their shoulders. These scenes and sculptures fill the exhibition space, changing the view every few steps. The courtyard itself After coming out of the exhibition hall, stand in the courtyard for a while. The ground is paved with blue bricks, with a few tufts of grass growing in the cracks. The lines of the eaves are clean and neat, and the color of the red painted doors and windows has darkened, but the structure is still sturdy. The courtyard is not large; it takes only a few minutes to walk around, but that kind of quietness makes one feel at ease. The wind passes through the middle of the courtyard, carrying the sound from the treetops. Practical information The museum is on Zhongqi Road. You can see it by taking a bus and getting off at the "Oilfield History Museum" stop. Opening hours are from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily. Entry stops at 4:00 PM, and it is closed on Mondays. Admission is free; just register with your ID card. The lighting in the exhibition hall is dim, so you need to get closer to see the items in the display cases clearly. The bronze path and several sculptures in the courtyard are outdoors, so you can take your time looking at them when the weather is good. It takes about an hour to walk through the entire museum. If you are not in a hurry, it is nice to stand in the courtyard for a while longer. When coming out of the courtyard, the sky was still bright. Looking back at the red-walled courtyard, it sat quietly by the street, with the tree canopy covering most of the roof. Those core samples, old items, and restored scenes were still in their original places.

Iron Man Wang Jinxi Memorial Hall: A worker-shaped memorial hall beside Century Avenue Traveling west from downtown Daqing along Century Avenue, the pump jacks on both sides of the road nod up and down, unhurriedly. When you reach the intersection of Century Avenue and Iron Man Avenue, you can see a granite statue standing in the square from afar, the figure gripping a brake handle and facing forward. Behind the statue, a solemn building unfolds—you have arrived at the Iron Man Wang Jinxi Memorial Hall. The square and the statue The memorial hall is located at No. 2 Zhongyuan Road, Ranghulu District, covering an area of over 11 hectares. The square is spacious, paved with smooth stone, and surrounded by pine trees and shrubs, their crowns swaying gently in the wind. The statue stands in the center of the square; the granite texture is rough and solid, and the figure's silhouette is sharply defined in the afternoon light. Behind the statue is the main building of the memorial hall, with a steady-colored exterior wall and a drill-shaped outline on the top, looking sharp from a distance. There are 47 steps in front of the building, laid out 1 by 1, and your pace naturally slows as you walk up. Entering the hall Pushing open the doors, the light dims, and the air carries a scent of stone mixed with old paper. Facing you is a large group sculpture; its bronze surface glows with a dull luster, the figures striding forward, their clothing and arms rendered with rugged, powerful lines. Standing before the sculpture for a while, the surrounding visitors soften their steps, with only the occasional sound of a shutter or low conversation. Scenes in the exhibition halls The exhibition halls are spread across the 1st and 2nd floors, totaling 6 halls. Walking clockwise, the items in the display cases unfold 1 by 1. The 1st things you see are several restored scenes—1 depicts workers using crowbars and rollers to unload heavy equipment from a train, the clay figures bent over, ropes digging into their shoulders, their expressions focused. Nearby is a restoration of a semi-subterranean shack, with mud walls and a thatched roof, a shovel and an oil lamp placed at the entrance. The lighting in the exhibition hall is dimmed, with each scene illuminated individually; walking through it feels like moving from 1 scene to another, separated by stretches of darkness. The display cases are filled with old tools and clothing. The color of the work uniforms has faded, with frayed edges at the collars and cuffs; the blades of the shovels are curled, and the wooden handles bear the marks of being held. 1 display case contains an enamel mug, white with blue lettering, with several chips in the enamel revealing the rust underneath. Black-and-white photos hang on the walls, some already yellowed; the scenes in the pictures are blurry, but you can make out oil derricks and crowds on the wilderness. Those vows Two lines of large characters are carved on the walls on both sides of the hall. The characters are large enough to be seen from several meters away. Visitors often stop in front of the wall; some raise their phones to take pictures, while others just stand and look. Tour groups from out of town line up in front of the wall, and the guide's voice echoes in the spacious hall. Looking back from the steps Emerging from the exhibition hall, you return to the bright natural light. Standing on the steps in front of the memorial hall and looking down, the statue in the square connects with the silhouette of the city in the distance, and the pump jacks are still turning unhurriedly. The wind blows from the direction of Century Avenue, carrying the scent of grass and soil, gently moving a few fallen leaves on the square. Practical information The memorial hall is located at No. 2 Zhongyuan Road, Ranghulu District, Daqing, opposite Iron Man Square. Opening hours are 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM daily, with last entry at 4:00 PM; it is closed on Mondays. You can take a bus from downtown Daqing to Iron Man Square Station, and if driving, there are parking spaces around the square. Admission is free; just register with your ID card. The lighting in the exhibition hall is dim, so wearing flat shoes will be more comfortable. The steps and the exhibition route take some time; walking slowly will take about 1 hour. There is also a green space outside the memorial area, where you can take a walk in the square or under the shade of the trees after your visit. When leaving the memorial hall, the sky had already begun to darken. Looking back at the worker-shaped building, it stood quietly in the twilight, the drill outline at the top tracing a sharp line. The statue in the square was still in its original position, gripping the brake handle and facing forward.

Liujiazi Grassland isn't your typical fenced-in tourist attraction; there are no ticket offices or tour groups here. Tucked away deep in Bayanchagan Township, Dorbod Mongol Autonomous County, on the alluvial plains of the Nenjiang River's east bank, it is a piece of pristine wilderness. First you see the sky, then you see the grass It takes about an hour to drive there from downtown Daqing. Just set your navigation to "Liujiazi Village," but don't expect to find a "park entrance" when you arrive—the village itself sits on a hill. There aren't many houses; you'll see laundry drying in a few yards and shepherd dogs tied to doorways that barely bark when they see strangers. The true grassland unfolds to the west of the village. Park your car on the slope and walk down; beneath your feet is soft grass. It’s not deep—barely reaching your ankles—but it’s dense, making a soft rustling sound with every step. Look up, and the sky feels incredibly low, with massive clusters of clouds piling up, their shadows moving slowly across the grass. When the wind dies down, the entire grassland is so quiet it feels like it's holding its breath. Climbing Liujiazi Hill Locals call the highest slope near the village "Liujiazi Hill." It’s called a mountain, but it’s really just a gentle slope that takes less than 10 minutes to climb. The summit is a natural viewing platform. Looking west, a tributary of the Nenjiang River curves in the distance, its surface shimmering like a silver ribbon casually tossed onto the grass. Below lies the vast alluvial plain, where grass and crops intermingle in patches of green and yellow. Herds of horses, cattle, and sheep are scattered across the meadow; chestnut-colored horses run with their manes flying high, while flocks of white sheep huddle together and move slowly, looking like cloud shadows on the grass from afar. The wind at the summit is stronger than below, whipping your clothes, but you won't want to leave. The view is so expansive that no matter how you hold up your phone, the frame is filled only with sky and grass—not a single stray power line or building in sight. Pitch a tent and wait for the sunset The Liujiazi camping area is located on the high slope north of Liujiazi Village, with the plains and river below. Some call this place the "Morigele River" of Daqing. The camping area is completely wild, with no water or power hookups and no caretakers. You can drive directly onto the slope, find a flat spot to park, and pitch your tent. As the afternoon light softens, the grass shifts from emerald green to warm yellow, and shadows stretch longer. Someone has brought a grill and a teapot; the smoke from the barbecue rises, mingling with the scent of grass and carried away by the wind in a thin, long trail. As the sun sinks toward the horizon, the entire grassland transforms into a different color. The sky is first pale blue, then flushes with orange-pink, before igniting layer by layer—from golden yellow to crimson—finally fading into darkness, leaving only a bright rim on the water in the distance. This is the quietest time in Liujiazi. People in the tents fall silent, listening only to the soft rustle of the wind through the grass. Once it’s completely dark, the stars begin to shine one by one. Without city lights, the Milky Way is clearly visible, stretching across the sky like a chalk line drawn on deep blue fabric. A few lights glow in the campsite, near and far, like little stars that have fallen to the ground. Old elm trees and ancient temple ruins in the village If you have time, take a walk around Liujiazi Village. Damiao Village is surrounded by water on three sides, and scattered throughout are over 20 centuries-old elm trees with trunks so thick it takes two people to hug them. Their branches are gnarled, and their canopies spread out to provide a large patch of shade. Near the village, there are also the ruins of an ancient temple, with some remaining walls and stone foundations half-covered by wild grass. Horse-head-shaped street lamps stand by the roadside, serving as one of the few signs of human activity here. Practical tips Liujiazi Grassland has no admission fee, is open 24/7, and has no set business hours. If you'd like to visit, you can navigate to "Liujiazi Village" or "Liujiazi Hill." However, the road narrows after you turn off the main road onto the country road, so drive slowly when passing oncoming traffic. Summer is the most comfortable season, with the greenest grass and the longest days; it doesn't get completely dark until 8:00 or 9:00 PM. In autumn, the meadow turns yellow and the light hits at a lower angle, offering a different kind of quiet beauty. There is no shelter on the grassland, so it’s a good idea to bring sunscreen and mosquito repellent. Please remember to take your trash with you when you leave; this wild land is beautiful precisely because no one has left anything behind. By the time I came down from the slope, it was already dark. I looked back one last time; the grassland lay quietly in the twilight, the grass still swaying in the wind, the water still shimmering in the distance. It’s in no rush to be fully seen.

Giraffe pumpjacks: Decommissioned pumpjacks by the lake turned into a "mother and baby giraffe" On the south bank of Wanbao Lake in the Sartu District of Daqing, along the lakeside boardwalk, stand two decommissioned pumpjacks. They have been painted to look like giraffes—one taller, one shorter—and locals call them the "mother and baby giraffe." From pumpjacks to giraffes These two pumpjacks have long been decommissioned and no longer extract crude oil. Now, they simply stand quietly by the lake as urban landmarks. They are quite tall, with the taller one standing about 8 meters high. The walking beam has been painted to resemble a giraffe's neck, long and stretching toward the lake. The original red and yellow industrial paint has been covered, replaced by a coat of brown and yellow spots in varying shades. The support structure has been fashioned into the giraffe's legs, planted on the ground. From a distance, it really looks like two giraffes standing by the lake—one tall, one short—with the smaller one looking up as if learning something from the larger one. Viewing them from the lakeside As you walk slowly along the wooden boardwalk around Wanbao Lake, these two "giraffes" become clearer in your view. The boardwalk is built along the water, with the gently rippling lake on one side and trees and grass on the other. The breeze coming off the lake carries the scent of water and reeds. When you reach the south bank, you can look up and see them standing by the lake, their "necks" stretching toward the water as if looking down at their own reflections. The light is best on summer evenings. As the sun sinks toward the lake, dyeing the water golden red, the spots on the "giraffes" are also plated with a layer of warm light, and the brown-yellow base color becomes soft and gentle. Some people stop on the boardwalk to take photos, while others just stand by and watch before continuing on their way. Occasionally, fountain jets rise and fall on the lake, and the wind blows the mist onto the boardwalk, feeling cool and refreshing. Other places around Wanbao Lake Wanbao Lake itself is not small, and the trail around the lake connects several surrounding attractions. On the lake's central island, arched bridges connect the large and small islands, and the boardwalk runs from east to west. Some people stroll by the lake, while others sit on the waterfront platforms. Lotuses are planted in the lake; when they bloom in summer, lotus leaves cover the water's surface, and pink and white flowers peek out from between the leaves. Not far north of Wanbao Lake is Times Square. The square is spacious, with lush trees in the green belts, and in the evening, people fly kites and take walks here. The square and the lake are connected by a trail, so you can visit both together. Practical information The "giraffes" are located along the boardwalk on the south bank of Wanbao Lake. You can navigate to "Wanbao Lake" or "Times Square" to get nearby, and you will see them once you reach the lakeside. It is open all day and free to enter. When visiting in summer, there is plenty of shade by the lake, so walking on the boardwalk is not too sunny; the colors in photos are best when the light slants in the evening. There is a parking lot nearby, making it convenient for those driving. If you don't want to walk too far, you can walk along the boardwalk to the south bank, see the "giraffes," and then head back the same way; about half an hour is enough. When walking back along the boardwalk, take one last look. The two "giraffes" are still standing by the lake, one tall and one short, one in front of the other, facing the water. They no longer extract oil; they just stand quietly on the south bank of Wanbao Lake, waiting for every passerby to take a look at them.

It offers fun, educational insights into oil, and the 4D film experience is very immersive, helping you learn little facts about oil extraction. 🌆 Evening: Take a walk at Times Square. The city feels open and grand. Enjoy the evening breeze and experience the laid-back daily life of the locals. 🥗 Dinner: Try the cold-tossed wild mountain vegetables. They are refreshing and help balance the rich, heavy flavors of the pit-roasted food. ✨Day 3: Grassland and hot spring relaxation 🌞 Morning: Head to the Amuta Mongolian Cultural Island in Dorbod. The vast grasslands stretch out before you. You can try on traditional Mongolian clothing for photos and experience Mongolian folk customs. 🐟 Lunch: Taste the "Full Fish Feast" at Lianhuan Lake. The lake fish is fresh and tender, and the various cooking methods showcase the sweet, fresh taste of the northern waters. ♨️ Afternoon: Visit the Lianhuan Lake Scenic Area. Go boating on the lake, then soak in the natural lake-view hot springs to soothe your travel fatigue while quietly admiring the lake scenery. 💡 Travel tips 📌 The Iron Man Memorial Hall, Daqing Museum, and Petroleum Museum are closed on Mondays. Be sure to avoid Mondays, bring your ID, and book online in advance. 📌 Daqing's attractions are quite spread out. Taxis are convenient in the city, but for trips to the Dorbod Grassland and Lianhuan Lake, renting a car or carpooling is a better experience. 📌 There are many mosquitoes in the wetlands, so be sure to pack mosquito repellent. The boardwalks by the lake can be damp, so wear non-slip sneakers. 📌 The temperature difference between day and night is significant. Even if traveling in summer, carry a light jacket, as the grasslands can get windy and chilly in the evening. 📌 Northeast Chinese portions are huge. Don't order too much at once; order a little at a time. If you prefer lighter flavors, you can ask the restaurant to use less salt. 📌 Bring your own swimsuit for the hot springs, as prices inside the scenic area are high. When visiting the grasslands, respect local customs and do not trample on the grass. 📌 The pumpjacks by the roadside are oilfield facilities; do not climb on or approach them. Do not feed the birds in the wetlands—please protect the natural environment.

📸 I'll drop the photogenic spots first so you don't get frustrated looking for angles when you get there 🌾 The Longfeng Wetland boardwalk is most ethereal in the morning. The reeds are half-yellow, and shooting your profile against the backlight looks like you've added a filter 📷. Climb the monitoring tower for a view of the entire water network. Honestly, it's super windy; if your hat doesn't have a strap, it will fly away 😅. Don't go to the overpass too late for sunset. In September, it gets dark early in the Northeast, and missing it by half an hour will ruin your mood. The exterior of the Sa'ertu Oil Museum looks like blocks of cream. Wearing light-colored workwear for an industrial-style shoot is weird but very photogenic 🛢️. The steps and old oil derrick at the Iron Man Museum are great for solemn photos. Don't strike silly poses; just be respectful once you're inside. The Durbot Amuta Grassland is vast. A long dress with leather boots, and when the wind blows, your hair looks just right; Lianhuan Lake hot springs are steamy. Don't put your waterproof phone case in your pocket after shooting; I burned my hand last time and almost cried like an idiot 🫠. 🕳️ These tips to avoid pitfalls are things I learned the hard way. Read them to save yourself some trouble 👟 In September, Daqing can get as cool as 10°C in the morning and evening. It's sunny during the day and freezing at night; if you don't dress in layers, you're asking for trouble 🧥. Don't rush to the Iron Man Wang Jinxi Memorial Hall or the Petroleum Science and Technology Museum on Mondays. Many museums are closed or by appointment only on Mondays, and you'll be upset if you waste a trip. Checking opening hours on Trip.com before you leave is the safest bet 📅. Don't leave the boardwalk to go into the grass at the wetland. The mosquito plus mud combo will make you lose it. Definitely wear long socks. For pit BBQ, don't just walk into any "viral flagship store" at the scenic area entrance. The old shops in Tiedong Village with lots of locals are the most reliable. Order a small platter for two, otherwise, you'll get potatoes, sweet potatoes, and pork belly all at once, and you'll be too full to move 🥔. Ask if the lake fish is priced by the piece or by weight. Some stalls around Lianhuan Lake have vague verbal quotes. I tried to save money and got burned once; I felt so stupid afterward 🐟. Use ride-hailing apps for taxis and don't trust low-priced one-day tours at the station. Booking official tickets and admission through Trip.com is much more worry-free. 🗺️ I've planned a 3-day itinerary that isn't exhausting. Lazy travelers, just copy this 📝 Day 1: Hardcore city tour. Morning: Iron Man Wang Jinxi Memorial Hall (bring your ID to take your time looking at old photos and drilling rig models). Noon: Iron pot stew in Sa'ertu. Afternoon: Choose between the Oil Museum or the Petroleum Science and Technology Museum. If you don't want to move, just stroll around Times Square. Day 2: Wetland relaxation. Morning: Longfeng Wetland for boardwalk photos. Noon: Small pit BBQ platter in Tiedong Village. Afternoon: Return to the city to do laundry and sleep, or take a walk around Liming Lake to see the water views 🌅. Day 3: Out of town. Visit Durbot Amuta to see the grassland and drink milk tea. If you have energy, add the Lianhuan Lake hot springs; you'll feel like you've been rebooted after soaking ♨️. If you only have 2 days, cut the grassland. The wetland plus oil line is the best value. Don't cram everything in; you'll just suffer the whole time. 🍖 Food recommendations: No fluff, just what I like and what won't disappoint 🥢 Pit BBQ is the soul of Daqing. Pork belly, chicken wings, potatoes, and eggs slow-cooked in an earthen pit. When you peel back the foil and that steam rises, your diet plan collapses on the spot 😋. Iron pot stewed goose with corn cakes—the thickened sauce on the cakes is amazing. For "pig slaughter" stew, get the sauerkraut, pork, and blood sausage; it's a total pick-me-up when the weather gets cold. Order a small portion of guobaorou. Eat it while it's hot; if it gets cold, it's like chewing on a shoe sole. Stewed chicken with hazel mushrooms and wide vermicelli is the hidden champion. The mushroom aroma in the soup is addictive 🍄. Don't be afraid of the grease with Durbot hand-grabbed lamb; pair it with chive flower sauce and salty milk tea, and your "grassland appetite" will instantly open up. If you eat Mongolian food at Amuta, ask about the set menu before ordering, otherwise, once the roasted lamb arrives, two people won't be able to finish it. Northeast Chinese portions are generally huge. Order less but better; leftovers take up fridge space, and I really don't recommend ordering a full table just to save face 🙃. 🧴 Final thoughts: In September, bring sunscreen, a folding umbrella, and a thin down jacket—three layers are enough. When taking photos at the wetland, don't use flash to disturb the water birds. Observe from a distance, don't feed, chase, or shout; civilized photography looks classier 🦢. For accommodation, Sa'ertu is convenient for food and drinks. If you want to soak in hot springs, stay in Lindian or Lianhuan Lake. Compare prices on Trip.com before booking; weekend rates jump around like a pump jack. Follow this guide, and your trip to Daqing won't be a disaster—it'll be worth it 💃.

Daqing, a city of a thousand lakes and wetlands located in the heart of the Songnen Plain, owes its birth and prosperity to oil. Therefore, the spokesperson for oil workers—"Iron Man" Wang Jinxi—is also the city's most famous symbol. The Iron Man Wang Jinxi Memorial Hall is located in the Ranghulu District of Daqing and is a national first-class museum. This dedicated memorial hall, with the "Iron Man spirit" as its core theme, features a massive granite statue of Wang Jinxi in the square in front of the museum. He stands tall, clutching a brake handle, his gaze firmly fixed on the black earth beneath his feet. 📍From the northwest to the northeast: The Iron Man's fiery life Wang Jinxi was born into a poor farming family in Yumen, Gansu. As a teenager, he worked as a child laborer at the old Yumen Oilfield, where years of hardship forged his resilient and unyielding character. After the founding of New China, he became one of the first generation of drilling workers. In 1960, when the Daqing oil campaign began, he answered the call of the nation, leading his team from the great Northwest to the great Northeast, shouting the vow: "I would rather live 20 years less to do whatever it takes to secure this major oilfield." Facing equipment shortages, he led workers to transport drilling rigs by hand and shoulder, and broke ice to carry water to ensure drilling could start. At a critical moment, ignoring his leg injury, he jumped into the mud pit, using his body to stir the mud and control the blowout. The name "Iron Man" spread across the country. Those stories of passionate struggle and overcoming difficulties are all detailed in the exhibition hall. 📍Detailed exhibition content: The museum lobby features the massive bronze sculpture group "Spirit of Oil," which is also the cover image. Workers wearing aluminum helmets stride forward, with Wang Jinxi at the very front of the group, as if a surging torrent is rushing toward you. The exhibition hall displays a wide variety of oil extraction tools used by the Iron Man, including actual items like the brake handle, aluminum helmet, and pliers he used. Different exhibition areas also use scene restorations, old photos, and video materials to fully connect his entire journey from a poor teenager to an oil hero, authentically restoring that era of harsh conditions but boundless enthusiasm and hard work. 📍The spiritual roots of the oil city: Daqing was born and flourished because of oil. This once vast wilderness rose rapidly into a modern industrial city due to the clarion call of the oil campaign. From the first oil well to gush oil to decades of stable production today, the Daqing Oilfield has produced billions of tons of crude oil, providing the most solid energy support for the industrial development of New China. Today, on the vast plains surrounding the memorial hall, countless pumpjacks still rise and fall day after day. You can personally feel the unique industrial charm of this oil city, living side-by-side with endless grasslands and scattered wetland ponds, all of which have become the scenery of this new city.

Honestly, Daqing isn't the kind of city that "wows" you at first glance, but every time I leave, I want to come back. It has vast wetlands, romantic sunsets, industrial memories full of history, and the unique warmth of the people in Northeast China🔥 If you enjoy off-the-beaten-path travel, a slower pace, and exploring nature and urban stories, you should definitely plan a trip to Daqing! 🌿Visiting Daqing in September really comes with off-season perks Daqing in September has just entered its "comfort mode." There are no summer crowds, hotel prices are quite friendly, the grasslands and wetlands still retain their pre-autumn green, the air is crisp, and you don't have to wait in line to take photos📸 Especially in the evening, when the wind blows across the grass and the sky is painted orange, that sense of vastness is truly healing. Recommendation: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best for: Nature lovers🌾 Families with kids👨‍👩‍👧 Fans of industrial culture and urban exploration🏭 Those looking for a quiet place to unwind ✨Must-do experiences in Daqing 📍Longfeng Wetland Park This is a place I've visited 5 times and would still go back to. In the early morning, you can see the mist in the reed marshes, and you must stay for the sunset in the evening🌅. When the lake surface is dyed gold, any photo you take looks cinematic. Best photo spots: The wetland boardwalk, observation deck, and the reed areas by the lake, especially after 4:00 PM when the light is particularly soft. 📍Iron Man Wang Jinxi Memorial Hall You can't miss this when visiting Daqing. It's not just an attraction; it's more like listening to the story of the city's growth. After visiting, you'll better understand the meaning of the "Daqing Spirit." It's best to take your time and not rush through it. 📍Daqing Oilfield History Museum If you like industrial style and vintage photos, you'll definitely love this. Old equipment, old photos, and historical materials all have a great sense of history, and it's a very atmospheric place for photos📷. 📍Liming Lake Park A favorite leisure spot for locals. It's very comfortable to take a walk, enjoy the breeze, and look at the lake view when the weather is nice. When the lights come on at night, there's a touch of urban romance✨. 🚗3-day, 2-night slow travel itinerary Day 1: Arrive in Daqing > Iron Man Wang Jinxi Memorial Hall > Daqing Oilfield History Museum > Liming Lake night view Morning: After arriving in Daqing, drop off your luggage and get a feel for the city's pace. Daqing's roads are wide, the city is well-greened, and the first impression is "comfortable." Afternoon: Visit the Iron Man Wang Jinxi Memorial Hall to learn about the city's development from a wilderness to an oil city. Evening: Take a walk at Liming Lake, enjoy the night view, and find a local restaurant for dinner. Day 2: Longfeng Wetland Park > Beiguo Hot Spring experience > City stroll Morning: I recommend going to Longfeng Wetland early. When the weather is nice, it's like walking into a painting🌿. Noon: Find a local restaurant to eat Northeast Chinese cuisine; the portions are really generous. Afternoon: You can plan a visit to Beiguo Hot Spring to soak and relax your body. Evening: Stroll through the local commercial street and experience the nightlife of a Northeast city. Day 3: Featured districts > Buy souvenirs > Departure Morning: Sleep in, visit the local market, and buy some Northeast specialties. Afternoon: End the trip and head home. 🚆Transportation guide High-speed rail: Daqing has multiple high-speed rail stations, making travel to surrounding cities very convenient. Self-driving: I highly recommend driving yourself. Daqing's roads are wide, parking is convenient, and you have more freedom to visit wetlands and suburban attractions. City transport: Attractions in the city are not too far apart, and taxi prices are quite friendly. Car rental: If you want to visit the surrounding wetlands and grassland areas, renting a car will be more comfortable. 🍖Daqing food highlights 🥩Pit barbecue You must try this when you come to the Northeast. The aroma of the meat mixed with the charcoal flavor is incredibly satisfying. 🍲Iron pot stew A representative Northeast specialty. A steaming pot of stew is perfect for eating with a group. 🥟Northeast dumplings Thin skin and big filling; they are especially delicious when dipped in garlic sauce. 🍜Local breakfast Tofu pudding, fried dough sticks, and steamed buns are all part of the locals' daily routine. You can eat very well for just over 10 yuan per person. 💰Budget reference Standard trip: Accommodation: 150–300 yuan/night Dining: 50–100 yuan/person/day Transportation: City taxis + attraction transport is about 100 yuan For a 3-day, 2-night trip, it costs about 800–1,200 yuan per person for a comfortable experience. 📸Daqing photo guide To get cinematic photos: ✨Take photos from behind by the wetland reeds for a special autumn vibe ✨Stand by the lake at sunset and use the sky as your background ✨Take vintage-style photos in front of industrial buildings for a sense of urban storytelling ✨Wear light-colored clothes to make it easier to get clean, high-end looking shots 🌟September tips 1️⃣There is a significant temperature difference between day and night in Daqing. It's comfortable during the day, but I recommend bringing a light jacket for the evening. 2️⃣There may be many mosquitoes in the wetlands, so I recommend bringing mosquito repellent. 3️⃣The distance between attractions is a bit far, so plan your route in advance. I don't recommend cramming too many places into one day. 4️⃣Northeast cuisine portions are generally large, so don't order too much at once to avoid waste. ❤️My thoughts on traveling to Daqing After visiting Daqing 5 times, I've found that its greatest charm isn't any single "viral attraction," but the process of slowly experiencing the city. The morning wetlands, the evening sunset, the steaming restaurants on the street, and the straightforward warmth of the Northeast people all make me feel that this city is very welcoming. If you're looking for a place that isn't crowded, is budget-friendly, and is suitable for unwinding for a few days, Daqing is definitely worth saving🌾 This autumn, go and see this underrated Northeast treasure city~✨

I originally just wanted to see what the "Oil City of the North" was like, but after finishing my trip, I realized this city is truly underrated! It lacks the exhausting crowds of "internet-famous" cities, offering instead the relaxed vibe and warmth typical of Northeast China. September is the perfect time for Daqing—the weather is comfortable, and the breeze carries a hint of autumn. With grasslands, wetlands, oil fields, night views, and delicious food all on the itinerary, 3 days is just enough to experience its charm✨ If you're also looking for a place with a slow pace, budget-friendly prices, and a great atmosphere for unwinding, Daqing is definitely worth adding to your travel plans~ ✅ Healing moments: In Daqing, slowing down is the right way to go🌿 What moved me most about Daqing wasn't any one particularly stunning attraction, but the feeling of "finally, no need to rush." Taking a walk through the wetlands in the early morning, with sunlight dancing on the water and birds occasionally flying in the distance, the whole world feels incredibly quiet. In that moment, you really realize that travel doesn't have to mean checking off 12 spots every day. Sometimes, just feeling the breeze and taking in the scenery is healing enough. Watching the sunset in the city in the evening was another moment I loved. Daqing in September isn't as muggy as it is in summer. Sitting outdoors, watching the sky slowly turn orange, and seeing pedestrians moving at a leisurely pace—it all felt so healing. There's not much restlessness here, just the warmth and hospitality unique to Northeast Chinese cities. Walk into any small shop, and the owner will greet you warmly. That sense of authenticity really adds to the experience❤️ ✅ 3-day itinerary: A relaxed, fulfilling way to experience Daqing🚗 Day 1: A slow city tour, experiencing Daqing's unique character After arriving in Daqing in the morning, you can start by visiting the city's iconic cultural landmarks to learn about the history of this oil city. In the afternoon, plan to stroll around the Daqing Museum area to understand how the city transformed from a wilderness into a modern metropolis. This place is best explored slowly, not just a quick glance. Save the evening for food! Nights in the Northeast are perfect for eating your way through the city. Finding a small restaurant crowded with locals is more likely to lead to a pleasant surprise than going to a popular tourist spot. Day 2: Wetlands + natural scenery route I recommend planning for natural landscapes on the second day. Personally, I highly recommend the Longfeng Wetland area; it's really comfortable in the autumn. With vast wetlands, reeds, water birds, and an expansive sky, it's perfect for photos📷 This isn't a place to rush. I suggest bringing a coffee or a drink and finding a comfortable spot to sit for a while. The best way to enjoy Daqing is to spend your time immersed in the scenery. In the afternoon, you can check out the oil field-related landscapes to get a feel for the city's "Daqing Spirit." For first-time visitors, this unique industrial cultural experience is quite interesting. Day 3: Relaxed wrap-up + food and departure No need to pack the last day too full; you can sleep in. Spend the morning browsing local markets, buying some Northeast specialty souvenirs, and getting a feel for the local pace of life. Pack up and head home in the afternoon so you won't be exhausted from rushing to attractions. ✅ Must-eat food guide: Don't miss these in Daqing😋 🥇 Iron pot stew: A must-try experience in Northeast China How can you come to Daqing and not have iron pot stew! A large pot is placed in the center of the table, filled with chicken, ribs, fish, and various vegetables, creating a rich, hearty flavor. It's especially great for groups—chatting while waiting for the pot to boil creates that quintessential Northeast atmosphere. It costs about 60–100 yuan per person, and the portions are usually quite generous, so those with smaller appetites should be careful not to order too much. 🥈 Barbecue: A local dinner choice The barbecue scene in Daqing is great, and many locals meet friends for it in the evening. The meat is marinated beforehand, making it incredibly fragrant when grilled. Paired with special Northeast-style dipping sauces, it's truly delicious. I suggest not just ordering 1 type of meat; mix beef, lamb, and some specialty side dishes. You can usually have a very satisfying meal for 50–80 yuan per person. 🥉 Pit barbecue: A unique experience I found the idea of "pit barbecue" very novel when I first heard about it, and after trying it, I confirmed it's definitely unique. The ingredients are cooked using a special method, resulting in a crispy skin while keeping the inside tender. If you like trying local specialties, this is a must. However, I personally think pit barbecue is better for sharing; it might not be as great an experience if you're eating alone. 🍜 Local snacks: Don't miss the Northeast flavors Besides big meals, some street snacks in Daqing are also worth trying. Things like Northeast-style noodles, barbecue, and side dishes all carry a strong local flavor. Often, the little surprises during a trip come from these unassuming small shops. ⚠️ Food tips: Don't rely entirely on popular online lists to find restaurants. Some places are full of tourists but might not necessarily match the authentic local taste. My own experience is to look for places where locals are eating. Small restaurants with frequent queues are much less likely to disappoint. ✅ Best photo spots: It's really easy to get great shots in Daqing📸 First, I recommend the wetlands. The colors of the wetlands in autumn are incredibly rich, with the sky, water, and reeds coming together to create a perfect Northern autumn atmosphere. Second, I recommend the oil field-related landscapes. This is very characteristic of Daqing. The combination of industrial vibes and the natural environment makes for photos that don't look like typical tourist snapshots. Third, I recommend the city night views. After the lights come on at night, Daqing takes on a different feel. I suggest going for a walk on a clear night; even casual shots will look great. ✅ September travel tips: My honest experience sharing🍂 1️⃣ Definitely bring a light jacket Daqing is comfortable during the day in September, but there's a significant temperature difference between morning and night. It can get a bit chilly when the wind blows, especially if you're out for an evening walk. 2️⃣ Make sure your shoes are comfortable Many places in Daqing are great for slow strolling, and walking through wetlands and parks covers quite a distance. Don't wear uncomfortable shoes just for photos, or it will really affect your experience. 3️⃣ Plan your transportation route in advance The distance between attractions in Daqing isn't as concentrated as in smaller tourist cities, so I suggest planning your route ahead of time. If you're traveling with a group, renting a car or taking a taxi will be more convenient and can save you a lot of time. To sum up: Daqing isn't the kind of city that stuns you at first glance, but it's the kind of place you grow to love the longer you stay. It has the warmth of the Northeast, vast natural scenery, and the unique memories of an industrial city. Three days is just right—no rushing to attractions, no chasing trends, just eating, strolling, and soaking it all in. If you're looking for a place that's uncrowded, comfortable, and full of local life, Daqing is definitely worth a visit✨

Honestly, before going to Daqing, I thought it was just oil pumps. But after 4 days, my perception of spending was completely shattered. Not because I was ripped off, but because I was shocked by how cheap and delicious, and free and beautiful everything was. But if you go in Sept–Oct, there are some pitfalls I need to warn you about first👇 📍 First, location and route (don't backtrack) Daqing attractions are in 2 areas: the city (Sa'ertu/Longfeng) and the Durbot Grassland hot springs. City attractions are dense, so taking a taxi is cost-effective; you must drive yourself or charter a car for the grassland, as bus schedules are extremely sparse. Day 1: Iron Man Wang Jinxi Memorial Hall → Daqing Museum (the mammoth fossils are truly stunning) → Evening: Liming Lake to catch the breeze and sunset Day 2: Longfeng Wetland (Asia's largest urban wetland) → Afternoon: Tie Dong Village for pit BBQ → Evening: Binzhou Courtyard for coffee and lake views Day 3: Drive to Durbot Grassland → Soak in the hot springs at Lianhuan Lake → Stay by the lake Day 4: Amuta Mongolian Cultural Island (the grassland turns golden in Sept–Oct, beautiful and quiet) → Return 🍜 Food recommendations (I wanted to move to Daqing after eating here) ▪️ Pit BBQ: The soul of Daqing food! Slow-cooked in a pit; lamb chops, pork belly, and roasted eggs are super fragrant. Tie Dong Village is Pit BBQ Street, with 21 shops, each with its own specialty. I recommend Sanhe Niuzhuang and Yuweng Pit BBQ. ▪️ Tonghui Pork Knuckle: An old shop hidden in a residential area. The pork knuckle is braised until soft and falls off the bone—perfect with rice. ▪️ Shunxin Restaurant: You can eat until you're stuffed for about 30 yuan per person. The stir-fried pork with eggs is full of wok hei, the Di San Xian is only 10+ yuan, and the portions are ridiculously large. ▪️ Iron Pot Stew: How can you not eat this in Northeast China? The goose is stewed until flavorful, and the corn cakes dipped in the soup are addictive. 🏠 Accommodation guide ▪️ City: Prioritize staying in Dongfeng New Village (near Wanda): convenient for dining and shopping, and close to Liming Lake. Chain hotels are around 100–200 yuan per night. ▪️ Transit: There are many small hotels around Daqing Station; you can get a room for a few dozen yuan, but the soundproofing is average. Book online and don't listen to people soliciting customers at the station. ▪️ Vacation: Hot spring hotels in the Lianhuan Lake scenic area are very cost-effective on weekdays, with lake views from your window. ⚠️ Warning: Daqing Station and Daqing East Station are very far apart. Check carefully before buying tickets so you don't get them mixed up. 📸 Instagrammable spots (Sept–Oct exclusive) 1️⃣ Binzhou Courtyard: Industrial style + lake view + sunset. Pure white walls with iron tables and chairs—the lighting in the evening is amazing. 2️⃣ Liming Lake Beach Market: Go around 5:00–6:00 PM. Watch the sunset first, then browse the night market. The container and hot air balloon installations are great for photos. 3️⃣ Amuta Grassland: In Sept–Oct, the grassland turns yellow. Blue skies and white clouds against golden grass waves give it a Northeast little Inner Mongolia vastness. 4️⃣ Longfeng Wetland: Reed marshes + water birds. Walking into the wooden boardwalk creates a great atmosphere; it actually feels more cinematic on cloudy days. ⚠️ Pitfall guide (you really need to know this if you go in Sept–Oct) ✖️ Weather: Weather is unpredictable. In September, Daqing is still humid, occasionally muggy, and the temperature difference between day and night is ridiculously large. Wear short sleeves during the day and bring a jacket for the evening. ✖️ Mosquitoes: Mosquitoes in the wetlands are huge and vicious. Bring high-strength repellent; wearing shorts is basically delivering takeout to the mosquitoes. ✖️ Shoes: Don't wear white shoes. The wetland boardwalks and grasslands are muddy; your white shoes will turn into camouflage style by the time you leave. ✖️ Closures: Venues are closed on Mondays, including the Iron Man Memorial and Daqing Museum. Remember to avoid Mondays and bring your ID. ✖️ Transport: Don't try to force a taxi to the grassland. If you aren't driving, chartering a car is more reliable; waiting for the bus will make you question your life. 💡 Final tips Daqing's perception of spending being shattered isn't about being ripped off, but discovering that fun and delicious places can be this cheap. The total cost for 4 days of food, accommodation, and transport is cheaper than 2 days in some trendy cities. Go in Sept–Oct to avoid the crowds. The grasslands and wetlands are quiet. Take your time, explore, and feel this industrial yet gentle relaxed vibe—it's truly addictive🍂✨

If it is your first time in Daqing, do not just treat it as a city you pass through. The travel vibe here is very special: on one side, there are vast oil fields and pump jacks; on the other, open wetlands, city lakes, and a down-to-earth, vibrant local life. I suggest slowing down and spending about 2 days experiencing the different sides of this "Oil City." 🌾 Start your trip with city landmarks and industrial memories. Walk around the Iron Man Wang Jinxi Memorial Hall area to learn about the Daqing spirit and the development story of the oil industry, then head outdoors to see the pump jacks, oil storage facilities, and the vast wilderness. This place is perfect for walking and looking, noticing the traces of the era in the scenery, and also great for taking some powerful photos. If you like natural scenery, include Longfeng Wetland in your itinerary. Walk along the wooden boardwalk through reeds, water, and shoals. When the weather is good, the light is very clear, and it is easier to encounter soft skies and migratory birds in the early morning or evening. Do not rush to check off every corner; pick a section of the trail and walk slowly to better feel the quietness of the wetland. For city sightseeing, you can intersperse walks by the lake, city street views, and night photography. During the day, watch the reflections of buildings on the water; in the evening, wait for the sunset glow; and at night, feel the city skyline after the lights come on. Do not pack your itinerary too full between attractions; leave some flexibility for transportation, meals, and spontaneous discoveries, and your trip will be much more relaxed. 📷 For dining, I recommend prioritizing Northeast Chinese restaurants frequented by locals. Try the guobaorou (sweet and sour pork), tieguodun (iron pot stew), home-style stews, and seasonal side dishes. If traveling with a group, it is great to order a few dishes to share, which allows you to taste more flavors and enjoy the lively atmosphere of a Northeast Chinese table. To save money, have your main meals near commercial districts or residential areas, and avoid chasing overly packaged, viral restaurants. For practical arrangements, I suggest preparing a windbreaker, comfortable shoes, and sun protection based on the weather; there is a lot of walking in the wetland, so comfortable shoes are more important than your outfit. Driving or taking a taxi is more convenient for connecting different areas, while public transportation is suitable for focusing on the city center. The most worthwhile trade-off in Daqing is to visit fewer spots and leave more time for the oil field sunset, the sound of the wind in the wetlands, and a hot, hearty Northeast Chinese meal. ✨
