The land of Guangxi, with its diverse geographical environments and historical traditions, has fostered a vibrant tapestry of ethnic cultures

Guangxi, often referred to as 'Bagui', is known for its picturesque landscapes and abundant resources. The 12 indigenous ethnic groups of Guangxi: Han, Zhuang, Miao, Hui, Dong, Jing, Yao, Shui, Yi, Maonan, Gelao, and Mulao, have gradually formed a pattern of distribution with large dispersion and small settlements. The land of Bagui, with its different geographical environments and historical traditions, has created a colorful garden of ethnic cultures. In Nanning, the capital of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, there is a place praised as a 'national treasure of ethnic culture'—the Guangxi Museum of Nationalities. The museum is located at No. 11 Qinghuan Road in the Qingxiu Mountain Scenic Area of Nanning, covering an area of 130 acres with a building area of 33,000 square meters, including an open-air exhibition garden of traditional Guangxi residential buildings. The museum was completed in December 2008 and opened to the public for free on May 1, 2009. Its main tasks are to collect, research, and display the traditional cultures of the 12 indigenous ethnic groups of Guangxi. It is a museum with a focus on Guangxi ethnic culture and is now a national first-class museum and a national 4A-level tourist attraction. The museum currently has more than 50,000 pieces (sets) of collections, divided into eight categories: bronze drums, ethnic textiles, gold and silverware, paper items, stone tools, bamboo and wooden utensils, ceramics, and old objects. There are six permanent exhibitions: 'The Sound of Drums Through Time—Bronze Drum Culture', 'Colorful Bagui—Guangxi Ethnic Culture Exhibition', 'Zhuang Culture Exhibition', 'Colorful China—Chinese National Culture Exhibition', 'Vibrant World—World Ethnic Culture Exhibition', and 'Yesterday Once More—Exhibition of Century-Old Objects'.
