A quintessential example of Neo-Renaissance architecture

The Plaza de España in Seville, Spain, was initiated in 1928 and constructed for the Ibero-American Exposition World's Fair in 1929. It was designed by architect Aníbal González and stands as a typical representative of the Neo-Renaissance architectural style in Spanish buildings. The plaza is semi-circular in shape, with tall buildings surrounding its edge. At the center of the plaza is a large fountain, and there are two towers each 74 meters high at the north and south, symbolizing the Catholic Monarchs Ferdinand and Isabella. A moat encircles the plaza, where boating is available for entertainment, and there are four bridges over the river. The exterior of the buildings is decorated with various styles of murals inlaid with ceramic tiles, representing the folk customs of the original 58 provinces of Spain.
