The Jewel of Calabria

During the week-long exploration of Calabria. I stopped by Tropea for two nights. I was surprised that i didn't run into many or even foreign travellers during those two days. Well naturally sometimes you can't tell unless you've spoken. But with Tropea, the Italian tourists know its value. It seems on a foreign travellers itinerary it rarely receives a mention. So anywho i hung out with some locals and picked up hints on when people recommended what to do. In terms of first impressions, you have a lovely city set atop a cliff, the weather was bright and sunny, sandy beaches to lay on and turquoise blue water. Compared to my time in Amalfi, the beaches here felt more spacious and it had the elements of an Italian holiday. Not to forget, the prices were amongst the best i found in seaside towns. Actually quite good. Amongst my favourite experiences were the old town. As always i walked all around it. I have to say though that it's too many stairs as you navigate from the old town to the beach and then the beach to elsewhere. One of the interesting tours i went on was that of an onion farm. It seems the red onions of Tropea are really famous. So that was interesting. You'll find plenty more ways to spend your time here i mean the beach too can eat up most of your day. Then there is even food and night life. And yes if I may recommend, do try the boat trip to capo vaticano.
