Xinzhou Ancient City

Xinzhou Ancient City is located in Xinzhou City, Shanxi Province. The city of Xinzhou was first built in the 20th year of Jian'an in the Eastern Han Dynasty (215 AD) and has a history of more than 1,800 years. Xinzhou Ancient City is a city built according to the traditional planning ideas and architectural styles of the Chinese nation. It fully embodies the historical and cultural characteristics of the Chinese nation and is a crystallization of the wisdom and strong will of the ancient Chinese working people. Throughout history, it has often served as the administrative center of counties and prefectures, a strategic fortress, a place of outstanding people, bustling commerce, and a contested military site, hence the name 'Key to Northern Shanxi.' It is said that when Emperor Gaozu of Han marched north to resist the Xiongnu, his army was besieged in Pingcheng (now Datong). During the breakout, the army retreated south to Xinkou, where they finally escaped their pursuers. Emperor Gaozu smiled with joy, and the six armies returned happily. Because 'Xin' is synonymous with 'Xin,' the name Xinzhou was born.
