A boat cruise around Danube River is one more tourist attraction in Budapest. It’s a great opportunity to observe the city from the different angle and enjoy the sightseeings, situated around the bank, from the river side. You will see Budapest Parliament, the chain of bridges, a fortress and other beautiful buildings. There are many options and many proportions with such tours. You can choose the type of the boat, meeting point, time and even a set of food if you like. Usually the trip takes at around 1,5 hour. Highly recommend you to use this opportunity and relax a little bit, enjoying the view! #bucketlistreboot

It’s a very impressive building, in new-gothic style. Architecture is amazing. Just wow! The creators were impressed by British Parliament and copied some elements. Budapest Parliament is located in the downtown, just in the heart of the city, by the river Danube. Address: Kossuth Ter 1-3 How to get there: by subway, M2 (red line), Kossuth Lajos tér station; Tram 2, Kossuth Lajos tér stop. By bus: Take line 15 to Kossuth Lajos tér Or if you just walk in downtown by the river you will not miss this impressive building. By the Parliament there is a square, there you can sit a have a rest! It’s a nice city, and a nice place, which is worth to visit! #bucketlistreboot

Second largest Baroque #castle in Europe on this 4-hour tour of #godollo Palace in #hungary. The castle was the former summer residence of the beloved Hungarian queen, Elisabeth. #inspiration #palace #happynewyear

The dazzling building in these pics? That’s the Royal Palace of Gödöllő, just outside Budapest at 2100 Gödöllő, Grassalkovich-kastély, Hungary. Built in the 18th century, it’s not just the world’s second-largest Baroque castle, but also the legendary summer escape for Empress Elisabeth of Austria (“Sisi”) and Emperor Franz Joseph I. If you’re all about fairytale vibes, palatial history, and royal gardens, this place is an absolute must-see! 👑✨ Here’s why this castle is straight-up iconic: ✨ Historical Timeline: 1733–1749: The Grassalkovich Era Imagine: Count Antal Grassalkovich I pulls up with major Habsburg energy and commissions this double U-shaped stunner as his home. This palace soon becomes THE inspo for every aristocrat building a Hungarian country manor. 1867–1918: The Golden Age (Sisi & Franz Joseph) After Count Grassalkovich’s line ends, the Hungarian state gifts the estate to newly crowned Emperor Franz Joseph I and the legendary Sisi. She’s obsessed with the place (bye, strict Vienna court life 👋) and redesigns her rooms in all shades of lilac. Picture Sisi riding through those lush gardens—straight fairytale energy! 1920–1944: Interwar Vibes The roaring ‘20s hit, and Regent Miklós Horthy makes Gödöllő his summer HQ. Wartime bunkers get built deep underground (so James Bond, right?). 1945–1990: Occupation Blues World War II is tough on the palace—almost everything original is lost, and Soviet troops crash the place for military use. The glorious wings? Turned into a super drab commune for the elderly. Yikes. 1996–Now: The Grand Glow-Up Restorers go ✨all-in✨ resurrecting the palace, finally reopening it as Hungary’s Habsburg nostalgia central in 1996. Today, it’s a full-on magnet for history buffs, royalty stans, and everyone in between. 🔥 Visiting Details & Pro Tips: Address: 2100 Gödöllő, Grassalkovich-kastély, Hungary How to get there: Super easy day trip from Budapest (hop on a train for under an hour, or check trip.com for tour options!) 🕐 Opening Hours: Open daily: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM Ticket office closes: 5:00 PM (don’t be late!) Closed: November 1st (major heads-up if you’re visiting in autumn) 🏰 Can’t-Miss Sights Inside: · Permanent Exhibition: Explore 31 wow-worthy rooms—think OG Grassalkovich glam, Sisi’s dreamy imperial bedrooms, and real-deal 20th-century wartime relics. · Baroque Theater: Built in 1769 and totally preserved! Dive into this Euro OG theater via a 40-min guided tour (separate ticket required but SO worth it for culture geeks 🎭). · Horthy Bunker: Slip 10m underground and see a real WW2 bunker—spooky tunnels, vintage newsreels, and true spy-movie feels. (25-min guided tour only; don’t forget to book your slot!) · Palace Grounds: 26 hectares of straight-up gorgeous parkland and leafy English gardens are open FREE. Stroll past the historic King’s Hill Pavilion and claim your main-character moment. Bonus Tip: Snap a pic in the gardens as the sun sets for Insta gold 🌅💜 · This palace is pure magic—real talk, it’s one of Hungary’s most showstopping royal spots. Grab your camera, charge your phone, and get ready to live your own imperial day out. For planning, tickets, or tour vibes, peep trip.com for up-to-date info. Gödöllő is only about 30 kilometers from Budapest, making it a relatively short drive. This city is famous for Empress Elisabeth's palace, which has also made it a popular tourist destination. Most people come here to visit Empress Elisabeth's palace, but in fact, besides the palace, the town itself is also very charming and well worth exploring. The town center revolves around the church and the surrounding square, where most of the locals' leisure activities take place. Since it was the weekend, many families were relaxing with their children in the central square, and I felt that this place was full of life.

While strolling through the old town of Gödel, I stumbled upon a rather quaint-looking café. Stepping inside, I instantly fell in love. This café is actually a courtyard, comprised of indoor, outdoor, and corridor areas, each with its own distinct feel. The interior is opulently decorated, one side of the corridor feels like a private corner for VIPs, while the courtyard exudes a natural and relaxed atmosphere, making you feel as if you're immersed in nature. Of course, what attracted me wasn't just the ambiance, but also their service and food. The shop specializes in exquisite cakes, boasting a wide variety and meticulous craftsmanship. At the recommendation of the staff, I tried the local specialty, cherry chocolate cake, paired with a simple cup of coffee. While not elaborate, it was enough to keep you occupied for a long time, allowing you to chat with locals and experience their daily lives. Indeed, it's a truly enchanting place.

In the tranquil town of Gödöllő, just 30 kilometers from Budapest, Hungary, lies a treasure known as the "Versailles of Hungary" — the Gödöllő Royal Palace. Built in the mid-18th century, this palace is not only the world's second-largest Baroque palace complex but also shrouded in a romantic and melancholic aura due to its deep connection with the legendary Empress Elisabeth (Sissi). It has become an excellent destination for exploring royal history and architectural art. In 1867, this magnificent estate was gifted to Franz Joseph I and Empress Sissi as a coronation present from the Hungarian people to their monarch. Since then, it became Sissi’s beloved "retreat." She often stayed here, escaping the tedious etiquette of the Vienna court, riding horses in the vast English gardens, and studying Hungarian language and culture in the study. Today, visitors can still enter her elegantly decorated suite in light purple and feel the beautiful empress’s yearning for freedom and tranquility. The palace itself is a masterpiece of art. Its massive double U-shaped structure houses over a hundred rooms, from the splendidly gilded ceremonial hall to the king’s bedroom adorned with yellow panels, all showcasing the luxury and grandeur of Baroque style. Additionally, the estate includes a historic Baroque theater, carefully restored and still hosting performances from time to time. Strolling through the expansive royal gardens, among towering ancient trees and lush green grass, visitors can also encounter a white marble statue of Empress Sissi, as if time stands still here. For travelers, visiting is very convenient. It takes about half an hour by suburban train or car from Budapest. It is recommended to reserve 2-3 hours to savor every corner of the palace museum and wander through the peaceful gardens. If you want to delve deeper into the stories behind each artifact, renting an audio guide is a wise choice. In summary, the Gödöllő Royal Palace is more than just a palace; it is a living history, a place where stories of love, freedom, and power unfold. Whether you are a history enthusiast, an architecture lover, or simply captivated by Empress Sissi’s charm, this place will offer you an unforgettable journey through time.

As the warm waters of the Széchenyi Thermal Bath flow over my shoulders and I gaze up at the starry sky of Budapest, I finally understand why Princess Sissi fell in love with this place. Starting from the dawn at Fisherman's Bastion, this city captivates me. Standing on Castle Hill, I overlook the Danube River. The Chain Bridge glistens golden under the morning sun, as if I can see the golden age of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. 🍷 The romance of Eger Bull's Blood Tasting legendary wine in a century-old cellar, the winemaker tells stories of the Turkish campaign—each sip rich with history. 🏰 Gödöllő Sissi Palace Walking along her favorite tree-lined path, imagining her dancing gracefully in the Hall of Mirrors, even the air carries the echoes of those days. ♨️ Healing moments at the thermal baths Soaking in the thermal waters beneath the Baroque dome, the water gently caresses the century-old marble—this comfort is priceless. From the grandeur of the Parliament Building to the golden dome of the New York Café, this trip to Hungary has gifted me the romance of all Europe. 【👇Click to start your noble journey】

[Princess Sissi's Palace (Gödöllő Palace)] Located 30 kilometers from Budapest, it was built in 1735 and was originally a noble family manor. In 1867, it was given to Franz Joseph and Princess Sissi as a coronation gift and used as their palace during their visit to Hungary. After marriage, Princess Sissi was tired of the red tape of the Vienna court due to conflicts with her mother-in-law. Gödöll Palace became Sissi's retreat to escape from court life and enjoy freedom. She lived here for 6 years. Sissi's life in Gödöllő Palace had a profound impact on Hungarian culture. She was a key figure in facilitating Hungary's acceptance of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and the Hungarian people have deep feelings for her. Gödöllő Palace is a two-story building with a concave shape as a whole. There are 136 rooms inside, including offices, living rooms, ceremony halls, churches, theaters, etc. The palace has snow-white walls and long corridors that are simple and bright. The emperor and empress's bedrooms and offices are richly decorated but not very large. Just like in the movie, there is a portrait of Princess Sissi hanging on the wall. There are some portraits of nobles hanging in the palace, and many of Sissi's furniture and portraits are preserved, as well as the exquisite dresses she wore. Behind the palace is a garden as big as a football field. Take a detour along the gravel paved horse trail. Sissi's personality was not suitable for being a queen, so she enjoyed the luxurious life of a queen and maintained her stunning beauty. She enjoyed the benefits of being a queen admired by everyone, but she did not fulfill her responsibilities as a queen to protect the country and the king. Franz, a mama's boy, did nothing to manage the relationship between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. Sissi's marriage was unhappy and she was also very distant from her children. The palace where Elisabeth lived was once used as a hospital and was somewhat rundown, but now even the gardens are beautifully maintained. The admission fee was higher on the weekend when we visited than on weekdays. However, we had no choice but to visit, and in the beautiful June weather, we enjoyed horse riding and music that gave us a medieval atmosphere.
