Luoyang Bridge spans the Luoyang River. It is ancient and majestic, with an extraordinary aura. Due to human control or the ebb and flow of the tide, there is no large water surface under the bridge, only endless mudflats and crisscrossing ditches. Standing on the bridge and looking down, the water in the ditches is rushing, and egrets and a few unknown large birds stand by the ditches, patiently waiting for prey to appear. When the tide recedes, a few small fishing boats are stranded on the flat and undulating mudflats, which is very interesting. On the lower river ditches, there are neatly placed stone slabs facing each other, covered with oysters. Not far away, women are busy on the mudflats and beside the bridge piers. The thousand-year-old bridge is full of vitality! It is said that Luoyang Bridge connects the river and the sea, and the construction process was extremely difficult. The bridge builders created a new type of pier - a raft foundation. They first threw a large number of stones into the river along the central axis of the bridge, then extended a certain width to form a low stone dike connecting the riverbed, and then built a boat-shaped pier on it. Oysters were used to reinforce the piers. The stones thrown down were very scattered, with poor connectivity and uneven gaps between the stones, making the piers unstable. Oysters are common soft-shelled mollusks in the area, with strong attachment and reproductive abilities. According to records, a long time ago, the Yue people lived in the Quanzhou area. Later, due to social unrest and frequent wars, many people from the Central Plains migrated south. Many people from the Henan, He River, and Luo River areas migrated to Quanzhou and southern Fujian. Xi Di Mazu Temple was built during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty (1573–1617) and is a branch of the Mazu Temple in Meizhou, Putian. It still preserves the stone stele of the "Strict Prohibition Rules for the Whole Village" from the "Jingpu System" period of the Qing Dynasty, which reflects the ancient village governance customs. The ceiling of the main hall of the Mazu Temple is built with a "spider web caisson," which is one of the more typical crafts in the large woodwork of the Xi Di school. The caisson is ingeniously constructed. It does not use columns, but rather hundreds of wooden blocks of different sizes and shapes to make dougong. They are embedded and overlapped with each other. The outside of the caisson is square, and the inside is octagonal. From bottom to top, the layers are reduced to form an inverted basin shape, which is metaphorically called a "spider web." The outer perimeter of the caisson is decorated with inverted wooden beams, which complement the layered ruyi dougong. The jumping dougong beams are uniquely shaped, cleverly combined, and well-spaced, and are carved and painted with exquisite colored patterns, which are breathtaking.
