Longyan travel guide and discussion

Just had the ultimate throwback at Huaiyuan Tulou today and omg, this spot is straight outta history books. 🚪⏳ Literally felt like I was teleporting centuries back the second I walked up to this massive, circle-shaped earthen castle. Imagine generations of families all vibing together in one epic fortress — it’s seriously mind-blowing. 🤯💛 Wandering through those calm wooden halls felt sooo peaceful. Every creaky stairway I climbed made me wonder how many people had trekked those steps before. And peeking out the tiny defense windows. Major castle guard energy unlocked. 🪟🛡️ Each level was a whole new mood: you get open-air courtyards where life just happened (can you smell grandma’s cooking) and those insanely detailed wooden carvings that are still looking 10/10 after centuries — talk about craftsmanship goals. Every corner gave me another reason to fall in love with the Tulou lifestyle. #CommunityGoals 🌟 Stepping back outside, the golden tulou walls absolutely GLOWED in the sun with those chill green hills as the backdrop. I legit felt grateful being able to experience this legendary spot IRL. Some legends just hit different when you see them up close. 🙌🌄 Wanna check it out yourself? Here’s the deets you need: 📍 Huaiyuan Tulou, Hukeng Village, Yongding District, Longyan, Fujian, China ⏰ Open daily 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM Put this UNESCO treasure on your must-see list, fam!!!!!!

Zhangzhou is a city in Fujian Province that is perfect for those who love historic towns and local culture. Start by wandering through Zhangzhou Ancient City to admire its historic alleys, Minnan-style architecture, and local eateries. Then, head out of town to experience one of the region's most iconic highlights: the Fujian Tulou, massive Hakka earth buildings that come in both circular and rectangular shapes. 🏘️✨ The charm of Zhangzhou lies in its simplicity and a relaxed pace that hasn't yet been overwhelmed by mass tourism. You can explore the old town, sample authentic Fujianese cuisine, visit rural villages, and witness the local way of life. It’s the perfect destination for anyone wanting to see a different side of China, distinct from nearby Xiamen. 🤍

Does Xiamen offer enough for a short weekend break? I’d say yes, especially if you’re looking for a city escape that doesn’t require a packed itinerary. Over a weekend, you can explore the historic streets of Gulangyu, wander through old neighbourhoods, visit Nanputuo Temple and take in the coastal scenery. Gulangyu is certainly popular with tourists, but its car-free lanes, colonial-era villas and relaxed atmosphere still make it one of Xiamen’s most distinctive experiences. What makes Xiamen interesting is that much of its appeal comes from simply slowing down. Spend an afternoon around Shapowei, browse its cafés and creative spaces, stop for some local food, and take a walk along the waterfront as the city lights come on. There’s also plenty to eat, from Fujian-style noodles and seafood to oyster dishes and local snacks. Unlike cities where you feel pressured to tick off one attraction after another, Xiamen works quite well when you leave some time unplanned. But perhaps that’s also the reason some travellers might find Xiamen underwhelming. It doesn’t necessarily have the dramatic landmarks or endless attractions of Beijing, Shanghai or even nearby Fujian destinations. Instead, its charm is more subtle, in terms of food, coastline, architecture and everyday city life. For two nights and a couple of days, that can be exactly what makes it enjoyable. The question is whether you’re looking for a spectacular sightseeing destination, or simply a pleasant place to spend a weekend. #hotdiscussions #travel2026 #chinatravel #xiamen

#epictravelmoments A whole village hidden inside one circle 🇨🇳 From the outside, it looks almost like a fortress. But step through that one entrance… …and suddenly there is an entire world inside. Layer after layer of curved tiled roofs, wooden balconies stacked several floors high, red lanterns hanging along the corridors, and another circle waiting inside the circle. This is Chengqi Lou 承启楼, one of Fujian’s incredible Tulou. These huge communal homes were built from rammed earth, wood and stone, designed so generations of families could live together under one roof. From above, the architecture almost doesn’t look real — perfectly organised, repeating endlessly toward the centre. But what I loved most was that it doesn’t feel like an empty monument. You can still see clothes hanging from balconies, doors decorated with red couplets, people walking through the corridors… History is still living here. Standing on the upper level and looking down at all those concentric rooftops was probably my favourite moment. It felt less like visiting a building… and more like looking into a completely different way of life. China has so many famous landmarks, but places like this remind me that sometimes the most epic architecture isn’t a palace or a skyscraper. Sometimes it’s simply a home built big enough for generations. ❤️ 📍 Chengqi Lou 承启楼, Fujian, China 🏮 Part of the famous Fujian Tulou region 🏠 Traditional communal earthen architecture 📸 Definitely go upstairs — the view over the circular rooftops is the highlight Some places are beautiful from the outside. This one only reveals its magic once you step inside.

Hidden among the green mountains of Fujian, the Yongding Tulou Scenic Area is home to some of China's most extraordinary earthen buildings and a remarkable symbol of Hakka culture. Built over centuries using rammed earth, wood, and stone, these massive circular and square Tulou were designed to house entire clans under one roof. Their thick walls, intricate wooden interiors, and harmonious layouts reflect both architectural ingenuity and the close-knit traditions of Hakka communities. Today, many of these UNESCO World Heritage-listed Tulou are still inhabited, allowing visitors to experience a unique blend of history, culture, and everyday village life. Wandering through ancient courtyards and quiet lanes feels like stepping back into another era. 📍 Location: Yongding Tulou Scenic Area, Longyan, Fujian, China 🇨🇳 🏛️ Highlight: UNESCO World Heritage earthen fortresses showcasing centuries of Hakka history and architecture ✨ Feature: Massive circular and square Tulou, traditional Hakka villages, ancient wooden structures, cultural heritage, and mountain scenery 🍃 Atmosphere: Historic, tranquil, authentic, and timeless 📸 Best for: Architecture photography, cultural exploration, heritage travel, and village landscapes 💡 Travel Tip: Spend a full day exploring several Tulou clusters, as each has its own unique design, history, and local stories. Early morning and late afternoon offer the best light for photography. ✨ Signature feeling: Standing within the towering earthen walls, you'll discover a living masterpiece where generations of Hakka families, remarkable craftsmanship, and centuries of tradition continue to thrive. 🏛️🌿✨

🏯 Who would understand! The moment I checked into a century-old Tulou, I truly felt like I had traveled through time. Honestly, before going to Yongding, I had little concept of Tulou—aren't they just round houses? But when I actually stood inside one, I was completely amazed—this is not just a house, it’s an architectural miracle! Visiting Yongding in July is just perfect: not too crowded, decent weather, and the Tulous are especially cool inside, like natural air-conditioned rooms. This article shares how I spent 3 days and 2 nights in Yongding Tulou and how to truly experience their charm. · -- 🗺️ My 3-day 2-night in-depth itinerary (relaxed and unhurried version) Day 1: First encounter with Tulou · Hongkeng Tulou Cluster (the most classic) Morning: Arrival + Check-in About 1.5 hours from Longyan, head straight to Hongkeng Village and drop off your luggage. I strongly recommend staying inside a Tulou; it’s a completely different feeling than a hotel. The Tulou at night and early morning are the most atmospheric. Afternoon: Hongkeng Tulou Folk Culture Village This is Yongding’s most classic Tulou cluster and the most developed. First-timers must visit. · Zhencheng Lou: The "Prince of Tulous," a must-see! The design blends Chinese and Western styles exquisitely, with a Bagua (eight-trigram) layout. The carvings and paintings inside are especially delicate. Be sure to go upstairs to see the breathtaking concentric circle structure from above. · Fuyu Lou: A representative of the Wufeng Lou style, different from round Tulous, it’s square and palace-like, very grand. · Kuiju Lou: A palace-style Tulou built against the mountain, very imposing. · Rusheng Lou: The smallest Tulou, super cute, like a little mushroom. 💡 Tips: The Tulous in Hongkeng are quite concentrated; a slow walk takes about 3-4 hours. I recommend hiring a guide; otherwise, you’ll just see the sights. Listening to the history and structure of the Tulous makes it much more interesting. Evening: Tulou Night View When it gets dark, the Tulous light up beautifully. At night, the tour groups leave, making it very quiet. Sitting in the courtyard, feeling the breeze and listening to the elders chat inside the Tulou is a wonderful experience. · -- Day 2: Tulou King + Hidden Gems (the most stunning) Morning: Gaobei Tulou Cluster — Tulou King Chengqi Lou This is a must-visit! The "Tulou King" name is well deserved. · Chengqi Lou: It’s huge! "Four stories high, four rings, four hundred rooms up and down." Seeing it in person is truly shocking. Looking down from the fourth floor, the concentric rings look like a maze. People still live inside, giving it a lively atmosphere. · Shize Lou: A square Tulou next to Chengqi Lou, great for taking photos of the "square and round sky line," very interesting. · Wuyun Lou: A Ming Dynasty Tulou, the oldest one, a bit worn but full of history. 💡 Tips: You can go upstairs in Chengqi Lou—definitely do it! The view from above is completely different; not going up is like missing out. Afternoon: Chuxi Tulou Cluster — Pristine Hidden Spot Highly recommended! Very few people, very original. · There are five round Tulous and dozens of square ones scattered among the terraced fields, very beautiful. · Jiqing Lou: One of the oldest round Tulous, with 72 stairs, very fascinating. · Don’t miss the viewing platform! Overlooking the entire Tulou cluster surrounded by terraced fields, truly spectacular. · Almost no commercialization here; it’s pure Tulou life. When I visited, I was the only tourist in the whole area. That quietness was amazing, allowing a deep feel of the Tulou atmosphere. · -- Day 3: Nanxi Tulou + Deep Experience (the most leisurely) Morning: Nanxi Tulou Cluster — The Tulou Great Wall Nanxi’s Tulous are built along a stream, stretching for several kilometers, called the "Tulou Great Wall." · Zhenfu Lou: A particularly exquisite Tulou, known as the "Tulou Princess," with a beautiful environment right next to a small stream. · Yanxiang Lou: A scholarly Tulou, home to many scholars, full of cultural atmosphere. · Huanji Lou: A Tulou with earthquake-resistant features, very impressive—it survived major earthquakes. Walking slowly along the stream, viewing each Tulou one by one is very pleasant. Plus, there are few people, so you can take photos however you like. Afternoon: Hakka Cultural Experience Just seeing the Tulous isn’t enough; you must experience Hakka culture. · Learn to make Hakka snacks with local grandmas, very fun. · Listen to Hakka people tell their migration stories, which deepens your understanding of the Tulous. · See traditional Hakka crafts like bamboo weaving and tea making. · -- 💡 The right way to enjoy Tulou 1. Don’t just look at the exterior: You must go inside and preferably go upstairs. The feeling inside is completely different from outside. 2. Chat with locals: Many original residents still live in the Tulous. Talking with them reveals many interesting stories. 3. Stay in a Tulou: Strongly recommend spending a night inside. The Tulou at night and early morning are the most beautiful, and you get to experience real Tulou life. 4. Don’t rush: Tulous aren’t just check-in spots; take your time to appreciate them. If you’re in a hurry, it’s better not to go. 5. Hire a guide: For first-timers, a guide is essential. Otherwise, you’ll just see a bunch of houses without understanding their mysteries. --- 📸 Photo spots to share 1. Chengqi Lou 4th floor: Shoot the concentric circles from above, breathtaking (a must!) 2. Chuxi viewing platform: Overlook the entire Tulou cluster and terraced fields, stunning panoramic view. 3. Between Shize Lou and Chengqi Lou: Take the "square and round sky line" photo, very interesting. 4. Inside Zhencheng Lou: Capture the Bagua layout and exquisite carvings. 5. Nanxi Tulou Cluster: Shoot along the stream with Tulous, water, and greenery, very fresh. 6. Tulou night view: When lanterns light up, the atmosphere is magical. --- ⚠️ Notes 1. Sun protection: July is still hot with strong sun, so be sure to protect yourself. 2. Mosquito repellent: There are many mosquitoes in the mountains, especially at night, so bring repellent. 3. Wear comfortable shoes: You’ll walk a lot, and some paths are rough, so sports shoes are best. 4. Respect local customs: People still live in the Tulous, so don’t enter homes casually. Ask before taking photos. 5. Environmental protection: Don’t litter; protect these century-old buildings. Yongding Tulou is truly a special place. Standing inside a Tulou, looking up at the round sky, you’ll marvel—how did people hundreds of years ago build such amazing structures? On this trip, I visited three Hakka Tulou scenic spots in total, and I personally think Chuxi is an absolute must-visit. Besides housing the 600-year-old (built in the early Ming Dynasty) "King of Tulous"—Jiqing Lou—this cluster of earthen buildings is nestled on a hillside right by a stream. Thanks to its terrain, developers couldn't overly commercialize it, beautifully preserving the raw, authentic vibe of this traditional Hakka village. You can even spend the night at Yuqing Lou, which has been converted into an inn! Since these are historic buildings, please tread lightly and respect every inch of the place. Remember, these are centuries-old handcrafted masterpieces, not your average modern hotels. The experience at the main Yongding "Prince of Tulous" scenic area fell a bit short. The Tulous themselves were fine, but the food at the surrounding restaurants was barely edible. This place was supposed to be an ancient village, but tourism development has turned it into a messy, small-town-level area, which is a major buzzkill. If you're going to develop tourism, the sanitation standards need to keep up. I even saw exhibition boards detailing plans to turn a Tulou into a shopping mall. I really hope they learn to prioritize heritage conservation, public hygiene, local dining, and the daily lives of local residents. The Yunshuiyao scenic area was a total delight—way beyond my expectations. First off, its original name was Changjiao Village, which I think sounds quite lovely. The stars of this spot are Hegui Lou at the entrance and Huaiyuan Lou at the tail end of the village. Hegui Lou is absolutely incredible. It’s a square Tulou, and you can tell its roof evolved from the traditional "Cuo" style—meaning the front and back feature hip-and-gable roofs connected by covered corridors on the sides. This is a relatively early architectural style. If you look at the "four dishes and one soup" square Tulous, their design is from a later period where the roofs just form a continuous circle without combining different roof styles. Also, the cobblestone floor in the central courtyard of Hegui Lou isn't totally solid; it feels a bit bouncy when you walk on it. According to the guides, the foundation of this Tulou was built using floating logs on soft, marshy soil to support a high-rise structure (Hegui Lou is 5 stories high, making it the tallest among all Tulous). As the old proverb goes, "Dry for a thousand years, wet for ten thousand, but neither dry nor wet lasts half a year." Fir wood can be preserved underground for ages in an oxygen-free environment. Meanwhile, Huaiyuan Lou at the end of the village is renowned for its exquisite wood carvings. I visited in February 2026. Aside from Hegui and Huaiyuan, a newly opened "Zhuangyuan Lou" was also there. At the time, I thought it was just a tacky tourist trap making up an excuse to charge an extra admission fee, so I didn't go in. But after looking it up later, I realized it has a profound history and is quite an extraordinary piece of architecture. I completely regret skipping it! If anyone has been inside, please let me know in the comments! Beyond the Tulous, the ancient dwellings scattered throughout the village ooze historical charm. They belong to the classic Jiangnan architectural lineage spanning Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Fujian. While they are undoubtedly from the Ming and Qing dynasties, I'd say they still carry the lingering aesthetic of the Southern Song Dynasty. Take your time to really appreciate them when you visit. After all that praise, I have to point out some flaws. The area is cluttered with ugly store signs, plastic tarp umbrellas, and faux-antique performance venues, sets, and B&Bs that totally clash with the local architectural style. I have a suggestion: if modern facilities must be built within ancient architectural clusters, they should boldly embrace a modern minimalist style—think dark gray or black steel I-beam frames paired with floor-to-ceiling glass. This way, they can be easily distinguished from the historical relics. It prevents poorly made faux-antique buildings from muddling the authenticity and dragging down the overall aesthetic, while ensuring the modern minimalist additions don't steal the spotlight from the genuine heritage sites. It’s a win-win.

It turns out the scenes from the movie really exist!! At Chuxi Tulou, the moment I stood on the circular wooden corridor, I felt like Chun was about to turn around and call out to Qiu, and the red big fish would leap out from under the eaves 🐟 This is not special effects, but an Oriental romance engraved in the bones The rammed earth walls of the Tulou, red lanterns, and wooden corridor corners, every frame overlaps with the scenes in the animation Standing on the viewing platform overlooking the mountains, the terraced fields hide centuries-old Hakka stories, and the wind carries the taste of slowing down This journey fulfilled a dream of my entire youth

Friend, if you are like me, tired of the crowds at popular tourist spots and just want to find a quiet place to daydream and stroll slowly, then you must add the "Yongding Chuxi Tulou Cluster" to your list! This May Day, I hid deep in the mountains of western Fujian and found this corner forgotten by time—no crowded tour groups, no noisy hawkers, only green mountains, terraced fields, Tulou standing quietly for hundreds of years, and Hakka people living their ordinary lives. This guide is for everyone seeking a "peaceful and authentic local vibe." 🏡 Chuxi Sketch: A "Living" Tulou Museum · Address: Chuxi Village, Xiayang Town, Yongding District, Longyan City, Fujian Province · Highlights: Very few tourists, pristine environment, accessible inside, a perfect photo spot. This is one of the prototypes for the mysterious walled houses in the animated film "Big Fish & Begonia," but with almost no commercial atmosphere. · Ticket price: About 65 RMB (includes the viewing platform and several main Tulou buildings). · Recommended visit duration: 3-4 hours, ideal for slow walking, photography, and daydreaming. 🗺️ My Walking Route (feel free to copy) Viewing Platform → Jiqing Lou (largest and oldest) → Shengqing Lou → Gengqing Lou → Shanqing Lou This route is very smooth, starting with a panoramic view and then going deeper into the village to experience a gradually immersive feeling. 1. First stop: Viewing Platform (a must!) After entering the village, don’t rush down. Spend 15 minutes climbing up to the viewing platform. This is Chuxi’s "God’s eye view," with the entire Tulou cluster backed by green mountains and facing terraced fields spreading out like a painting before your eyes. At dusk, the sunset gilds the Tulou edges, and the terraces glow softly—perfect for photography. 2. Second stop: Jiqing Lou (the core of the core) After descending, head straight to Jiqing Lou. Built during the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty, it is the oldest and most uniquely structured round Tulou in Fujian. The entire building is assembled with wooden mortise and tenon joints without a single iron nail—truly astonishing. You can freely go inside! Walking on the creaking circular corridor and touching the weathered wooden walls instantly transports you back hundreds of years. 3. Third and fourth stops: Shengqing Lou, Gengqing Lou, Shanqing Lou These buildings are close to each other and can be explored at leisure. The stone steps and square in front of Gengqing Lou create a deep perspective when shot with a telephoto lens. The villagers here are mostly very friendly; you can see elders sunbathing at the doorsteps and dogs strolling leisurely, full of life’s warmth. 📸 Exclusive Photo Spots (tested for great shots) · Panoramic masterpiece: At the Viewing Platform. Use a medium telephoto lens to capture the Tulou, terraces, and distant mountains together with excellent layering. · "Big Fish & Begonia" vibe: Inside Jiqing Lou. Shoot upward at the circular sky or stand on the third floor to shoot the central courtyard from above for a cinematic composition. · Cultural documentary: In the square in front of Gengqing Lou, capture villagers working or quiet scenes of elders with the Tulou in the frame. · Atmospheric close-ups: The texture of the earth walls, carvings on door lintels, hanging lanterns, and flowers on windowsills—all great storytelling details. 💡 Comprehensive Practical Guide & Pitfall Tips 1. Transportation is challenging but worth it: · Strongly recommend self-driving! Navigate to "Chuxi Tulou Cluster." It takes about 1.5 hours from Longyan city center or Yongding Tulou Tourist Service Center. The latter half is a mountain road with beautiful scenery but requires careful driving. · If not driving: Take a shuttle bus to "Xiayang Town," then taxi or local motorcycle taxi (about 6 km) to Chuxi. Be sure to arrange your return ride in advance. 2. Accommodation and itinerary: · Accommodation in Chuxi Village is very limited, mostly simple farm stays. It’s better to stay in the well-equipped "Tulou Prince" scenic area (Hongkeng Village) or Xiayang Town (with hot springs and more food options), then visit Chuxi the next day. · You can combine Chuxi with nearby Nanxi Tulou Great Wall (viewing platform for magnificent Tulou clusters) and Xiayang Town (beef dishes and hot springs) for a relaxed 2-day trip. 3. Tips for a better experience: · Best time: Arrive in the afternoon when the sunlight is soft. Visit the Tulou first, then watch the sunset from the viewing platform. · Wear comfortable flat shoes! The village has stone paths and steps. · Mindset: This is not an amusement park. Slow down, respect local life, and speak softly. 4. Food without disappointment: · There is a farmhouse restaurant at the village entrance serving Hakka dishes like taro dumplings, beef meatballs, and bamboo shoot stewed pork. · For more authentic flavors, go to Xiayang Town, famous for beef meatballs, mouse rice cakes, and pickled duck feet. ✨ Final thoughts In Chuxi, time seems to slow down. You can sit on the doorstep of a centuries-old Tulou, listen to the wind blowing through the valley, watch sunlight wander on the earth walls, and think of nothing. This pure, peaceful, earthy, and authentic feeling is the most precious part of travel. If you long for such a journey, add Chuxi to your list. It may be remote, but it will never disappoint. #springflower There are certain places that feel less like destinations on a map and more like chapters in a story you didn't know you were living. Tucked at the end of a winding mountain road in Fujian Province, content to wait for those paying attention, Yongfu is one of those places. We had heard whispers. Friends who returned with that particular expression — somewhere between serenity and mild bewilderment, as though the world had briefly shown them something it hadn't quite meant to reveal. We booked our train to Longyan and told ourselves we were simply going to see some flowers. We were not, as it turned out, simply going to see some flowers. Over one hundred thousand cherry trees cascade down terraced slopes in waves of pink, white and the most startling red. Forty-two varieties take turns across the long season, each one seemingly determined to outdo the last. In February, the pink had arrived in full extravagance, accompanied by mountain mist, so that the whole hillside shimmered at the edges in a way that made one question the reliability of one's own eyes. But here is what photographs cannot convey: the tea. This is not merely a flower garden — it is a working tea plantation, ancient and unhurried, where cherry trees were planted among the tea bushes with such patient wisdom that one wonders why everyone else hasn't done the same. The result is emerald rows of tea plants threaded through with avalanches of blossom, arranged as though a painter of great ambition had been handed an entire mountain and told to take their time. We walked the paths, drank fresh spring tea that tasted unmistakably of the mountain itself, and said rather less than usual — the sincerest compliment one can offer a place. A note for the practically minded: entry costs nothing. This continued to astonish us at intervals, like a gift so generous one keeps checking for the terms and conditions. As we left, petals drifted across the tea rows below — pale, unhurried, with nowhere particular to be. My wife put her camera away. She did not take it out again. That is the only review that matters. P/s Yongfu Cherry Blossom Garden, Longyan, Fujian. Free entry. Bring good shoes and the wisdom to put the camera down! #springflower #romantic #flowers #spring #cherryblossoms #china #yongfucherryblossomgarden #longyan #fujian #couplestrip #thingstodo #myitinerary

After visiting Tianluokeng's Four Dishes and One Soup, I was deeply impressed by the Fujian Tulou! Not quite done exploring and wanting to avoid the more commercialized Tulous, I chose a lesser-known and well-reviewed site—the Chuxi Tulou. Many say Chuxi Tulou is the most beautiful Tulou in Fujian, and after visiting, I wholeheartedly agree. It’s breathtakingly beautiful! Among the 36 Tulous in Chuxi, 5 are round and 31 are square, with 10 listed as World Cultural Heritage sites. The Tulous are nestled by mountains and water, surrounded by terraced fields, resembling a paradise on earth! 🛣️Recommended Route: Entrance → Jiqing Lou → Shengqing Lou → Gengqing Lou → Shanqing Lou → Gongqing Lou → Viewing Platform → Exit 🌳Must-See Tulous: 🍃Viewing Platform: A must-visit spot. Although it requires a short uphill climb of about ten minutes, once at the top, you can see the entire village and Tulou cluster. The view is spectacular and stunning—highly recommended! 🍃Jiqing Lou: 👉Jiqing Lou is the largest round Tulou in the Chuxi cluster, with a history of 600 years. Built in the 17th year of the Yongle reign during the Ming Dynasty, it is the oldest and most uniquely structured round Tulou still standing in Yongding. 👉The building is timber-framed using mortise and tenon joints without nails. The outer wall is 2 meters thick at its thickest point, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship and defensive features. 👉Jiqing Lou has 4 floors, a diameter of 66 meters, and 72 external staircases, allowing each household its own staircase—a rare design among Hakka Tulous! 👉The movie Big Fish & Begonia was modeled after Jiqing Lou. When watching the film, you can spot the Tulou’s angles—it’s an incredibly faithful recreation. 👉In 2001, Jiqing Lou faced collapse risks, so residents relocated. Later, craftsman Xu Songsheng restored it meticulously, which is why the interior is now pristine and stunningly beautiful—perfect for photos! 🍃Shengqing Lou: Built in 1799, this is a square Tulou composed of two square buildings inside and out. 🍃Gengqing Lou: Built in 1840, this is also a round Tulou with three floors. 🍃Shanqing Lou: Built in 1979, this is a white-walled round Tulou with three floors, the youngest in the cluster. 🍃Gongqing Lou: Built in 1949, this is a hexagonal Tulou with four floors, higher in front and lower in back. 🌈Tips: ✔️It’s about a 15-minute walk from the entrance to Jiqing Lou, or you can take the scenic area’s electric shuttle for 5 yuan one way, 10 yuan round trip. ✔️After 5 PM, no admission fee is charged. You can drive yourself to the foot of the viewing platform and even bring your dog along. ✔️The Tulous are built on mountainsides, so it’s quite a leg workout—wear comfortable shoes. ✔️Public transportation is inconvenient; renting a car or driving yourself is recommended. 🗒️Chuxi Tulou Cluster 📍Chuxi Village, Xiayang Town, Yongding District, Longyan City 🕒8:30 AM - 5:00 PM 💰65 RMB 🌸Recommended visit duration: 2-3 hours

The tulou of Fujian are the embodiment of Hakka culture. Yongding Tulou are the earliest Hakka residential buildings. Having weathered both war and peace, they remain remarkably well-preserved, serving as a symbol of Hakka unity. Yongding is often called "China's Hakka Tulou Museum without walls." Among the many tulou, the most iconic are the Wufeng Lou (five-phoenix style), large square buildings, and round buildings. Each tulou is an artistic treasure—and a "big family, small society" in itself. Under one roof, dozens or even hundreds of families share the same lineage and live in harmony, with shared gates, halls, staircases, courtyards, and wells. 🆙 Scenic Area: Yongding Tulou in Longyan, Fujian—a living museum.

Yongfu Cherry Blossom Tea Garden (also known as Yongfu Cherry Blossom Park or Taipin Cherry Blossom Tea Garden) is located in Yongfu Town, Zhangping City, Longyan, Fujian Province. It is a unique landscape combining cherry blossom cultivation with high mountain tea gardens, known as the "Cherry Blossom Holy Land of China" and the "Mainland Alishan." The park features over 100,000 cherry blossom trees alongside 55,000 mu (about 9,067 acres) of tea gardens, creating an ecological painting of "tea green and cherry red." The cherry blossoms shed leaves in winter, providing natural nutrients for the tea trees, and bloom in spring, forming a visual feast with the lush green tea terraces. There is a rich variety of species: a total of 42 cherry blossom varieties, including Chinese Red, Fihan Cherry, Yunnan Cherry, Somei Yoshino Cherry, Peony Cherry, and more. The blooming period can last from late January to mid-March. Three waves of blooming: The first wave (late January to mid-February) mainly features red varieties; the second wave (mid-February to the end of February) is the peak blooming period for pink and white varieties; the third wave (March) features late-blooming cherry varieties. Tourism Experience: · Sightseeing: Take the cherry blossom mini train through the tea terraces, climb the Fangfei Platform for a panoramic view, stroll through the cherry blossom tunnel, and visit attractions like the Heart Gate and Mirror of the Sky. · Cultural Activities: The Cherry Blossom Cultural Tourism Festival is held annually around the Spring Festival. The 13th festival was held in 2024, and the 15th is ongoing in 2026. · Supporting Experiences: Enjoy tea at the Taipin Tea House, experience tea picking and processing crafts, and taste local delicacies such as tea oil braised whole chicken and cherry blossom shrimp cakes. 🚗 Transportation: Drive and navigate to "Taipin Cherry Blossom Tea Garden," or take the "Yongfu Line" bus from Zhangping Bus Station.

Guangdong folks sure keep secrets! Such a beautiful cherry blossom tea field, and I only just discovered it now 😭 The best part is, this vast flower viewing spot doesn’t charge an entrance fee‼️ Who else feels this joy? Free beautiful scenery is truly irresistible! At a glance, various pink, red, and white flowers compete in beauty. Now we Guangdong people no longer have to envy the cherry blossoms in Dali and Fujian from afar✨ 🌸Best viewing period: Mid-February to early March 📍Address: Yinna Mountain Cherry Blossom Garden, Meixian, Meizhou, Guangdong 🎫Tickets: Free! But you must take the shuttle bus up and down the mountain, 40 RMB/person 🅿️There is a parking lot at the scenic area, 10 RMB per visit 🚅Transportation: From Meizhou West High-Speed Rail Station, take bus No. 96 to Lingguang Temple Scenic Area stop 📸【Photography Tips】 🔹Use backlighting to shoot, letting light filter through the cherry blossoms creating bokeh, instantly enhancing the atmosphere! 🔹Stand in the tea fields with cherry blossoms as the background; every shot is a stunning masterpiece. 🔹Shoot from a low angle or looking up to avoid crowds and capture unique, beautiful scenes. 🟢Photo Spots 🔹Summit Observation Deck: Offers a panoramic view of the cherry blossoms and tea fields, the best spot for wide shots. 🔹Cherry Blossom Tunnel: Walk through the sea of flowers, every snap is beautiful. 🔹Ancient Temple with Falling Blossoms: After descending, visit Lingguang Temple at the foot of the mountain; the temple eaves framed with cherry blossoms create a very Zen vibe. 🔹Tea Garden Cherry Blossoms: The combination of cherry blossoms and green tea fields adds layers and is a highlight here. 📚【Recommended Itinerary】 🔴Day 1: Arrive at Yinna Mountain Cherry Blossom Garden in the morning → stroll through the tea fields in the afternoon → enjoy local cuisine in the evening (recommended dishes: Meixian pickled noodles, Sanjidi soup, Hakka stuffed tofu). 🔴Day 2: Capture sunrise at a Hakka Tulou (Wei Long House) in the morning → visit a Hakka ancient town in the morning → experience intangible cultural heritage in Baihou Ancient Town in the afternoon (such as pottery making, iron flower forging, etc.). 📌【Additional Practical Information】 🔸Nearby attractions recommended: Wuzhishi in Meizhou, Yannanfly Tea Field Scenic Area, Lingguang Temple, etc. 🔸Local specialties recommended: pickled noodles, Sanjidi soup, Hakka stuffed tofu, salt-baked chicken, and more. 💡【Avoid Pitfalls】 ▪️Don’t take the wrong road! Weekends are crowded; arriving after 9 AM may mean long lines for the shuttle bus or even early closure. For a private experience, arrive before 8 AM. ▪️Bring your own snacks: Besides vending machines at the summit, there are no other shops. Remember to bring water and snacks. ▪️Keep warm: The temperature on the mountain feels cooler than the city. Even in spring, it’s recommended to bring a light jacket or down vest. After enjoying the cherry blossoms, you can visit Lingguang Temple at the foot of the mountain to pray. It’s one of Guangdong’s four famous temples and very popular. Nearby are Yannanfly Tea Fields and Yanyang Lake, which can be included in your itinerary for tea picking and lakeside cycling, making for a very pleasant experience~💕

Located in Fujian Province, China, the Yongding Tulou is a living piece of history that spans hundreds of years. These massive circular and square earthen buildings, constructed by the Hakka people using soil and wood to fend off external invasions, felt more like a representation of communal life than mere architectural structures. During this trip, walking among the Tulou, taking numerous photos, and gazing at the sunlit courtyards brought a sense of peace to my heart. Especially memorable was the warm cup of tea brewed by the local guide grandmother, which added a comforting touch to the journey. It was truly an enjoyable trip where history, people, and warmth came together.

Luodai Ancient Town Luodai Ancient Town was originally a Hakka settlement, known in Thailand as "Chao Chin Khae." The town is renowned for its iconic circular earthen architecture, specifically the Yongding Tulou—also known as the "Fujian Tulou"—which is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site for its unique architectural value. 🏛️ You'll find many professional photographers here offering services along with traditional Chinese costume rentals. For those interested in a professional photoshoot, prices start at approximately 40¥ or as negotiated. 📸

#chinaadventures Visiting Yongding King Tulou (永定土楼) was like entering a living fortress frozen in time. Nestled among the lush mountains of Fujian, these iconic earthen buildings are not just architectural wonders, but powerful symbols of Hakka culture, family unity, and resilience. The moment you step inside the circular courtyard, you can feel the weight of history — yet the space remains warm and welcoming. What stood out most was how life once revolved around community. Thick earthen walls, narrow lower windows, and a single main entrance were designed for protection, while the open courtyard encouraged daily interaction. Walking along the wooden corridors and looking up at the layered balconies, it was easy to imagine generations sharing meals, stories, and traditions under one roof. Some tulou are still lived in today, which makes the experience feel authentic rather than staged. The surroundings add to the charm. Rolling hills, quiet villages, and fresh mountain air make Yongding a refreshing escape from busy city life. It’s a destination best explored slowly — take time to walk around, observe details, and appreciate the harmony between architecture and nature. Travel Tips: Visit early in the morning to avoid crowds and capture better photos. Wear comfortable shoes, as paths can be uneven. Hiring a local guide helps uncover deeper stories behind the tulou. Bring some cash for small vendors, and consider visiting nearby tulou clusters to maximise your trip. Yongding King Tulou isn’t about ticking off attractions. It’s about slowing down and experiencing a way of life built on togetherness — a journey that stays with you long after you leave. #YongdingTulou #KingTulou #FujianTravel #HakkaCulture #ChinaHeritage #SlowTravel #TravelTips
