Mohe travel guide and discussion

There are always people who travel thousands of miles to the freezing northern winter, just to encounter a rare and elusive aurora feast at the northernmost point of the country. Finally, in the -30°C temperatures of Mohe, I fulfilled the ultimate romantic dream on my bucket list✨ Only after seeing the aurora with my own eyes did I realize that a camera can never capture even one ten-thousandth of the breathtaking beauty I saw. Deep in the night, Arctic Village is completely silent. Far from the hustle and bustle of the city and free from any light pollution, the entire night sky is clean and clear. We bundled up in heavy winter gear and braved the biting cold, quietly waiting for the stars and the aurora to appear. At first, there was only a faint touch of green light slowly diffusing across the horizon, as gentle as ink spreading on a scroll. In an instant, fine green light suddenly filled the night sky! The agile aurora bands flowed and stretched freely, emerald green intertwined with delicate purple and pink halos. At times, they danced like light veils in the wind; at others, they surged and flowed like a galaxy, stretching wantonly across the pitch-black dome—gentle yet majestic. The aurora danced for over 10 minutes, healing all the anxiety and cold of the late-night wait. The snow-covered ground and silent forests beneath our feet were the perfect backdrop for this cosmic romance, and all my worries vanished into this brilliant night. 📝 Super practical Mohe aurora chasing guide ▪️Best season: December–February of the following year, long nights, highest chance of seeing the aurora ▪️Golden hours: 10:00 PM–2:00 AM every night, the peak period for aurora activity ▪️Hidden gem spots: Arctic Village, Crown of the Golden Rooster, wide and unobstructed views The wind at -30°C is biting, but the moment you look up and see the aurora flowing across the sky, you understand that every bit of the journey was worth it. You have to visit Mohe at least once to chase the stunning aurora, watch the galaxy spread across the fields and snow fall over the northern frontier, and treasure this unique winter romance for years to come.

Earlier this year, I set off with my family into a breathtaking snow country, and it was a season of firsts: ❄️ Posting 40+ copies of Harbin Ice Castle postcards created by yours truly at China's northern most point!! ❄️The first time I ever watched snow fall from the sky. ❄️The first time I rolled around in snow so deep and soft it felt like sinking into a beach. ❄️The first time nature showed me what it truly means to stand in a world of ice and endless white — watching the shades of blue and white unfold before me, I could only stand there in awe. ❄️The first time I felt air so bitterly cold it numbed my fingers and toes — minus 30 degrees, and I felt every bit of it. ❄️The first time I slept on a heated kang in the northeast, the room so warm that damp socks left on the floor overnight were dry and toasty by morning. ❄️The first time I rode a snowmobile, chasing that icy wind against my face — three rides in, and I was still laughing every time. ❄️The first time I took an overnight train across long distances, and made friends I never expected to meet. And, together with Shanghai, I witnessed the city’s first snowfall in years.❄️ As someone who had never seen snow before, I discover how much I adore the cool air and the fluffy white snow. #winter #snow

Who gets it! To chase the ultimate romance of the "northernmost point in China," I took a 17-hour slow train from Harbin and visited Mohe three times! The polar day in summer, the extreme cold in winter, and the colorful forests in autumn—there's a new surprise every time I go 😭 Please save this guide full of practical tips— 📸 Photo spots (these spots are legendary) · Ussuri Shoal "Northernmost Point in China" monument: Stand at the true northernmost point at 53°33′ N latitude and take a souvenir photo saying "I found the North." Russia is right across the river, offering a full view of the border river scenery. · Longjiang First Bay observation deck: Climb over 900 steps to the top for a bird's-eye view of the "Ω"-shaped river bend. It's breathtaking in every season. It's most stunning during morning mist or sunset, making every shot look like a geography magazine cover. · Birch Forest Scenic Area: Free admission! With birch forests full of lush green or golden leaves, wear light-colored clothes and stand in the forest to shoot from a low angle for effortless forest-style blockbusters. The rime in winter is so beautiful it leaves you speechless. · Arctic Village "Northernmost Post Office": Send a postcard with the "Arctic" postmark to yourself or friends. The nearby "Northernmost Sentry Post" and "Northernmost Family" are also great check-in spots. · Arctic Star Square: An excellent spot for a panoramic view of Mohe, best during the blue hour from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The city lights and the primeval forest in the same frame create a perfect atmosphere. · Water-to-ice throwing (winter exclusive): Around sunrise in the morning, find an open area, use 100-degree boiling water, and throw it forcefully into the air behind you while taking burst shots against the light. The kettle should be at least 1.5 meters off the ground for the best arc effect. 🗺️ How to plan your route (classic 3-day, 2-night itinerary) Day 1: Depart from Mohe city center → Nine Bends and Eighteen Turns (overlook the winding river) → Birch Forest for photos → Longjiang First Bay + Ussuri Shoal (check in at the northernmost point in China) → Stay in Beihong Village (an original ecological border village, perfect for stargazing). Day 2: Depart from Beihong Village → Ewenki Reindeer Park (buy moss to feed the reindeer, super healing to get close and personal) → In-depth tour of Arctic Village (Northernmost Post Office, Arctic Sandbar, Shenzhou Arctic Square, Boundary Marker 138) → Stay in Arctic Village. Day 3: Morning mist in Arctic Village → Songyuan Park (a primeval forest in the city) → 5.6 Fire Memorial Hall (free, learn about the history of the 1987 fire) → Return trip. ⚠️ Attractions are extremely scattered and there is no signal, so you must charter a car or join a carpool. A 3-day carpool costs about 680 yuan per person, and chartering a car costs 600–800 yuan per day. 🍖 Food tips (Mohe is a paradise for hearty Northeast Chinese dishes!) · Iron pot stew: Slow-cooked goose or free-range chicken over a wood fire, served with corn cakes dipped in the soup—warming and filling. · Cold-water river fish: Steamed or braised, the meat is tender and firm. · Guo Bao Rou (sweet and sour pork): Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and appetizing. · Stewed chicken with mushrooms, sauerkraut and pork belly pot: Classic hearty Northeast dishes. · Grilled cold noodles: 5 yuan per serving; Xiaoqiu Grilled Cold Noodles at the entrance of the night market is a local favorite. · Frozen pears/frozen persimmons: Sweet and refreshing juice after thawing, a limited-edition dessert of the North. · Wild blueberries: Freshly available in July–August, sweet, sour, and refreshing. · Restaurant recommendations: Laojiefang Iron Pot Stew (downtown), Longfu Restaurant (Arctic Village), Taiyanghong Clay Pot and Hanging Oven Cake (warm food for about 25 yuan per person). ⚠️ Northeast Chinese portions are huge, so order moderately to avoid waste. Stir-fried vegetables in scenic areas cost about 38 yuan, and meat dishes start at 60 yuan. 🚗 How to choose transportation · Train (best value): Take K7039/K7041 from Harbin, a 17-hour sleeper train directly to Mohe. Book sleeper tickets 15 days in advance; they are extremely hard to get in July–August. Try to choose the train arriving at 8:48 AM so you can start your trip immediately upon arrival. · Flight (time-saving): Fly directly from Harbin to Mohe Gulian Airport, a 1.5-hour flight. During peak season, book two weeks in advance for about 800+ yuan; winter flights are easily canceled. The airport is 15km from the city, and a taxi costs about 30 yuan. · Local transportation: Chartering a car or carpooling is the only real option. Attractions are scattered and there is no signal, so self-driving is not realistic. Charter a car for 3 or more people, and carpool if there are fewer people. 💡 A few final tips · Best season: December–February for the extreme cold experience (-30~-40℃) and high probability of seeing the aurora; June–August for a 20℃ average temperature, a perfect summer escape; September for the colorful forest season with fewer crowds and beautiful scenery. · Clothing (winter): Thermal underwear + wool sweater + thickened down jacket + thermal leggings + waterproof down pants + high-top anti-slip snow boots + ushanka hat + scarf + mask + touchscreen gloves. · Clothing (summer): Short sleeves + sun protection clothing + thin jacket; the temperature difference between day and night is huge (10–28℃), so you must bring a windbreaker or shell jacket. · Sun protection + mosquito repellent: The UV rays in the forest area are strong and there are many mosquitoes, so sunscreen and mosquito repellent are essential. · Border regulations: Drones are prohibited, and do not photograph military facilities. Do not get close to the border river. · Aurora reminder: You can see the aurora in Mohe, but the probability is very low. You can wait for it on clear, moonless nights from 22:00–02:00 between December and February. Don't come with the expectation that you must see the aurora; the northernmost point and the Greater Khingan Mountains are the real soul of the trip. · Reservations: Arctic Village admission is 68 yuan + 30 yuan for the sightseeing bus; book 3 days in advance during peak season. Mohe is the kind of place where you leave your soul behind once you've been there—the northernmost point, birch forests, reindeer, and iron pot stew all in one trip! Take the snow train directly there and start your journey to find the North 🌲✨

Friends saw a set of photos I posted on social media and asked if I had gone to Northern Europe to see the midnight sun. Actually, this is the "Golden Rooster Crown" on China's map — Mohe. I originally just wanted a short escape from the "natural steam room" of the south to cool off, but unexpectedly, this border town's ultimate summer deeply healed me. Here, time seems stretched; not only do you feel like you're in an air-conditioned room physically, but you also find long-lost peace mentally. 🌿 Because of the high latitude, Mohe enjoys very long daylight hours in summer. At eight or nine in the evening, the sun still hangs in the sky, the Heilongjiang River is dyed a gentle purple by the sunset glow, and people stroll and fish by the riverbank. This unhurried atmosphere makes you forget the fatigue of the 9-to-9-6 grind. 🌅 🌟【Must-Mark Magical Photo Spots】 Summer Love Song of the Birch Forest: Compared to the golden hues of autumn, the birch forest in summer is vibrantly green. Straight trunks paired with lush green leaves and dappled light make every casual snapshot look like a scene from a Japanese pure love movie 🎬 Ritual Sense of the Arctic Sandbar: Walking on the Arctic Sandbar is very pleasant; a breeze brushes the wetlands on both sides of the boardwalk. Stroll and pause to discover the uniquely shaped "Bei" (North) stone monuments, and finally take a commemorative photo under the "Golden Rooster Crown" sculpture to stamp your journey 👑 The Northernmost Outpost and Boundary Marker: Standing at the northernmost outpost of the motherland, watching the smoke rising from Russian villages across the river, a patriotic feeling naturally arises. Taking photos beside Boundary Marker No. 138 is especially meaningful 🇨🇳 Arctic Christmas Village: The only officially certified Christmas-themed park in Asia near Arctic Village! Romantic pointed roofs and a big-bearded Santa instantly transport you. Although there’s no snow in summer, the fairy tale vibe is still full 🎄 Encountering Stunning Sunset Glow: Summer nights are short, but dusk is long. In Mohe, you can experience a sunset feast lasting two to three hours, with the sky shifting from bright blue to orange-pink and finally deep purple, breathtakingly beautiful 🌇 🗺️【Easy Itinerary for the Lazy Traveler】 D1: Arrive in Mohe → drop luggage at the hotel and head straight to city attractions. Visit the May 6 Fire Memorial Hall (closed on Mondays) to learn city history, feel the primeval forest at Songyuan Park, watch the border town sunset at Polaris Square in the evening 🌆, and experience the vibe at Mohe Dance Hall at night. D2: Early morning chartered car → stroll in the birch forest → feel the grandeur of Longjiang First Bend → check in at the northernmost boundary marker → stay overnight in Beihong Village, experience the original ecological kang bed-stove 🛖, and count stars in the yard. D3: Say goodbye to Beihong Village in the morning mist → deep slow tour of Arctic Village → find every "northernmost" spot you want → send postcards and reward yourself with a pot stew → take the train back at night 🚂. ❗Travel Tips: Sleeper trains from Harbin to Mohe are popular, saving accommodation costs and letting you sleep through the journey, but book tickets early in peak season. Local car chartering is recommended; sharing costs among a few people is affordable and hassle-free for routes and navigation. 🥢【Local Hidden Menu】 Pork Stewed with Vermicelli: The simpler the dish, the more skill it requires. The vermicelli soaks up the meaty aroma, and dipping steamed buns in the broth is Mohe’s most humble carb joy 🥟 Rustic Oven-Baked Chicken and Sweet Potato: Slow-roasted big rooster and sweet potatoes with a primitive smoky aroma, a world apart from ordinary barbecue 🐔 Dried Blueberries & Russian Rye Bread: Before leaving, pick up some wild blueberries and cranberries from the Greater Khingan Mountains as souvenirs, along with Russian-style rye bread, hearty and filling 🫐 ⚠️【Some Detailed Reminders】 Forest fire prevention is top priority! Summer is fire season; do not smoke or use open flames outdoors 🚭 Mohe’s water is hard and cold; sensitive stomachs are advised to drink bottled water or boiled water 💧. Beihong Village’s accommodations are simpler than Arctic Village’s, offering a more original ecological experience. Those with high accommodation standards should stay in Arctic Village or Mohe city. Repeated reminder about the big temperature difference between day and night: even in midsummer, bring long pants and a light jacket! Do not cross the border line or swim in the boundary river out of curiosity; safety first 🙅. After a few days in Mohe, I feel gently embraced by this land. Visiting the northernmost part of the motherland in summer to find coolness and tranquility is definitely a perfect remedy for heat and worries. 🍃💊

The ink-black night sky spreads flowing auroras, snow covers wooden houses and forests, every shot looks like a masterpiece painting, and the shock you see with your own eyes far surpasses the camera—this is a must-visit once in a lifetime! Many tourists misunderstand: you can see the aurora just by waiting anywhere! Tested comparison: ordinary villages have heavy light pollution and low observation rates; the core observation area of Arctic Village is located at China's northernmost point, with no light pollution blocking the view. 2026 is a peak year for solar activity, increasing the chance of auroras by 30%. The golden hours at midnight have a much higher success rate than surrounding spots. 🌟 Four stunning highlights of midnight Arctic Village 🌌 Midnight aurora explosion | Cosmic light feast Every day from 1 to 4 a.m. is the golden aurora burst period. Unlike the gentle light bands late at night, when the geomagnetic activity is high at midnight, green and purple auroras dance across the sky, occasionally showing rare red auroras. The entire night sky is filled with flowing lights, delivering a full visual impact. 🏡 Northernmost snowy landscape composition | Natural painting scenery At midnight, it’s quiet and deserted. Snow-covered wooden houses, frozen Heilongjiang River, and white birch forests form a pristine foreground. The aurora hangs on the dark blue horizon, creating a strong warm-cold color contrast atmosphere. No post-processing needed; the original photo is a world-class wallpaper. ❄️ Extreme cold healing experience | Exclusive winter ritual At minus 30°C, the midnight cold air is pure and clear, with no fog blocking the aurora view. 🌌 Family! I saw the aurora in the northernmost part of China!!! Thinking back now, I’m still very excited. I chased the aurora for three years, and finally fulfilled my dream in Mohe. When the green light ribbons danced in the night sky, my whole body was trembling, and tears unknowingly flowed down. That feeling is truly unforgettable for a lifetime. ✈️ Why choose to go to Mohe in July Many people say you have to go in winter to see the aurora, but that’s not necessarily true. I chose early July, right around the summer solstice. Although the chance of seeing the aurora is lower than in winter, there’s a huge advantage—it’s not cold! In winter, Mohe can be minus 30 to 40 degrees Celsius, and staying outside for half an hour is freezing, making aurora photography very tough. But summer is different, with daytime temperatures in the twenties Celsius and nighttime in the teens, just a jacket is enough, making the aurora chase experience much better. Plus, July has the midnight sun! That magical phenomenon where it’s still bright at 11 p.m. and bright again at 2 a.m., with over 20 hours of daylight in a day—truly magical. 📍 Where I stayed: Arctic Village To see the aurora, you definitely have to stay in Arctic Village, the northernmost village in China and the best spot for aurora viewing. I booked a homestay a month in advance, a small wooden cabin with a carved log style, very atmospheric. The homestay owner is an aurora enthusiast who created a light-chasing group. Every night, he posts the KP index in the group and wakes everyone up when there’s a sign of aurora. I was woken up by the owner at 3 a.m., saying the KP index reached 5, so there might be aurora. Half asleep, I got up, put on my jacket, and ran to the riverbank. There were already quite a few people there, all quietly waiting, no one talking, as if afraid to disturb the aurora. 🌠 The moment I saw the aurora After waiting about 40 minutes, I was almost frozen and ready to leave when someone suddenly shouted, "It’s here!" I looked up and saw a faint green light on the horizon, like mist, slowly drifting upward. Then it got brighter and wider, starting to dance like ribbons. Honestly, my mind went blank, and I just thought, "This is amazing." Can you imagine? In the pitch-black night sky, green light dancing, below is the Heilongjiang River, and across is Russia. The feeling was so unreal, like a dream. I held up my phone to take pictures, but the photos looked nothing like what I saw—just a faint green line, unable to capture the shock. So I stopped taking pictures and just stood there watching, trying hard to imprint this moment in my mind. The aurora lasted about 20 minutes, gradually fading away. Everyone was very excited, sharing photos, some hugging and crying. I cried too, not sure why, just deeply moved. 📝 Aurora chasing tips (all practical) Sharing some experience for sisters who want to chase the aurora, all pitfalls I’ve encountered: 1. Download an aurora forecast app: I used Aurora Forecast, which shows the KP index. The higher the KP, the greater the chance of aurora. Usually, KP3 or above means possible sightings. 2. Find a good homestay: Choose one with an aurora wake-up service. Setting your own alarm is hard, and you might miss it. 3. Bring a tripod: For phone aurora photos, a tripod is a must with long exposure mode, otherwise, you can’t capture it. 4. Dress warmly: Although it’s summer, it’s still quite cold at dawn, especially by the river with strong wind. Bring a thick jacket. 5. Keep a good mindset: Seeing the aurora really depends on luck. Some see it on their first trip, others don’t after many tries. Stay calm. 6. Stay away from lights: To see the aurora, go somewhere dark. Village lights are too bright and affect viewing. The riverbank is the best spot. 🌞 What to do during the day Besides chasing the aurora, there are many fun things to do during the day: The northernmost post office: You can send postcards to friends with the northernmost postmark, very memorable. I sent one to myself, and it’s still on my desk. Shenzhou Arctic Monument: A must-visit for photos, the "I found the North" monument, very popular and often crowded. Jiejiang River cruise: Take a boat on the Heilongjiang River, opposite is a Russian village where you can see their houses and chimneys—very fascinating. Arctic Sandbar: A small island with many "northernmost" landmarks, like the northernmost toilet and outpost, quite interesting. 💭 Final thoughts This trip to Mohe was not just a journey for me, but a dream come true. I remember seeing aurora photos online three years ago and longing for it, thinking it was the most beautiful thing in the world. Back then, I wondered when I could see it with my own eyes. I never expected that three years later, I would stand on the northernmost land of China and see the aurora I had been dreaming of. So you see, as long as you have a wish in your heart, one day it will come true. If you also have an aurora dream, don’t wait, set off. Whether you see it or not, the journey itself is beautiful enough. · -- Accommodation 🏨 Sanmo Sanke · Shiye Zhiyou Hotel A boutique hotel with a private 20,000 square meter park, Nordic design, smart room control, pet-friendly, attentive butler service, the top choice for high-end stays in Arctic Village. 🏨 Moye · Starry Dream Extreme Beauty Homestay (Arctic Village Northernmost Post Office Branch) A newly opened stylish homestay next to the northernmost post office, with great design and excellent audio-visual rooms, a perfect choice to explore the extreme north scenery. 🏨 Arctic Village Igloo Cabin A unique wooden cabin homestay by the military road, excellent views, rich activities, offers airport pickup, an authentic Daxing’anling wooden cabin experience. 🏨 Once Slow · Xiaoman Homestay (Mohe Arctic Village Branch) A forest-style homestay founded by a Xiamen landscape designer, made with local old items and forest resources, full of artistic atmosphere, 8 cozy and comfortable rooms. · --

Folks! I finally found North! 🧭 This trip to Mohe, I didn't spend all my time waiting for the aurora, but instead seriously explored 'finding North'. Honestly, before I left, I thought it was pretty silly. Isn't it just checking in at various 'northernmost' spots? What's the point? But after going: It was amazing! So much fun! Every day I was looking for various 'northernmost' spots, and when I found one, I was as happy as a kid on Christmas morning. 🗺️ Mohe 'Finding North' Full Map Must-visit 'Northernmost' Checklist: ✅ Northernmost Post Office ✅ Northernmost Outpost ✅ Northernmost Restroom ✅ Northernmost Swing ✅ Northernmost Family ✅ Northernmost Sandbar ✅ Arctic Point ✅ Divine Northern Pole Monument Sounds a bit silly, right? But once you're there, you can't help but look for each one. And once you find it, you have to take a photo to prove you've 'found North,' making it a full-on ritual. 📍 Key Check-in Spot Guide 1. Arctic Sandbar ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This is the core area for 'finding North'! Most of the 'northernmost' spots are located here. · How to explore: Once inside, just follow the wooden boardwalk and look for them along the way. · Must-find: Arctic Point (there's a landmark sculpture), Northernmost Restroom, Northernmost Swing. · Time: 1-2 hours if you stroll leisurely. · Small tips: The Northernmost Swing is super photogenic, with the Heilongjiang River and Russia across the border as the backdrop. Definitely take a photo! 2. Northernmost Post Office ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ · You can send postcards! Getting the 'China's Northernmost Post Office' postmark and sending it to yourself or friends is very meaningful. · Avoid pitfalls: Queues can be super long during peak season, possibly over an hour. If you want to save time, you can send it from the post office in Mohe County, which also has the Arctic Village postmark. · Postcards: Available for purchase at the post office, or you can bring your own to get stamped. 3. Divine Northern Pole Monument ⭐⭐⭐⭐ · A landmark check-in spot in Mohe; everyone who comes here has to take a photo with it. · Location: Near the entrance of Arctic Village, easy to find. · Photography: You'll have to queue when it's crowded; it's recommended to go early in the morning when there are fewer people. 4. Northernmost Outpost ⭐⭐⭐⭐ · You can only view it from the outside; entry is not permitted. · Photo angle: Take a photo across the river, with the outpost + Heilongjiang River + Russia – it has a great vibe. 5. Beihong Village ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Highlight! Beihong Village is even further north than Arctic Village! It is truly China's northernmost village. · Few people! Super few! Completely lacks the commercialization of Arctic Village. · A very rustic, quiet little village in Northeast China. · The effect for viewing the aurora and Milky Way is much better than in Arctic Village. · If you have enough time, definitely stay for a night. 🚗 How to explore Mohe? Recommended Itinerary 3-day, 2-night classic itinerary: Day 1: Mohe County → Nine-Bend Eighteen-Turn → First Bend of Heilongjiang River → Beihong Village (stay) Day 2: Beihong Village → Wusuli Shoal → Arctic Village (stay) Day 3: Arctic Village 'Finding North' → Mohe County Why this route: · It's a smooth route, no backtracking. · You get to stay in both Beihong Village and Arctic Village, experiencing different vibes. · Most attractions are covered, without feeling too rushed. Transportation: · Chartered car/shared car: Most recommended! Mohe's attractions are very spread out, and public transport is inconvenient. With a chartered car, the driver doubles as a guide and can tell you many stories. It's very cost-effective, around 100-200 yuan per person per day. · Self-driving: Also an option, but the roads can be challenging, especially to Beihong Village. Not recommended for novice drivers. · Public transport: Buses are available but infrequent and inconvenient, limiting your freedom. 🌲 Besides 'finding North', what else can you do? 1. Daxing'anling Forest Hike · Mohe is full of primeval forests; the air is incredibly fresh, with off-the-charts negative oxygen ions. · Recommended: Nine-Bend Eighteen-Turn Wetland Park, Birch Forest. · Note: Don't go too deep; it's easy to get lost. Just stick to the boardwalks. 2. Daydreaming by the Heilongjiang River · The feeling of being by a border river is truly special, with Russian villages just across. · You can take a boat tour (oh, wait, can't mention that? Never mind, walking by the river is nice too). · The sunset is incredibly beautiful, making the river surface look like it's paved with gold. 3. Experience Northeast China Life · Sleep on a heated brick bed (kang) (might not be necessary in summer, but it's an experience). · Visit a morning market (feel the warmth of the Northeast people). · See Northeast China's floral fabric (colorful and vibrant, super fun for photos). 🌞 The Right Way to Visit Mohe in Summer How comfortable is Mohe in July? · Temperature: Daytime 20-25 degrees Celsius, nighttime around 10 degrees Celsius – it's like natural air conditioning. · Midnight Sun: It's still bright at 10 PM, and bright again at 2 AM, feeling like a 48-hour day. · Summer escape: When the south is 38 degrees, Mohe is 20 degrees. How cool is that? Small summer annoyances: · Lots of mosquitoes! And they're big northern mosquitoes, quite venomous. Make sure to bring plenty of repellent. · It gets dark late, making it easy to stay up late and unknowingly play until midnight. · It gets bright early, so light sleepers should remember to bring an eye mask. ⚠️ Practical Tips 1. Sunscreen: Don't assume the northern summer isn't sunny. Mohe's UV rays are super strong, and with clear air and no obstructions, I got two shades darker in three days. 2. Warmth: It gets really cold at night, especially when chasing the aurora or getting up early to watch the sunrise. A thick jacket is a must. Don't let your guard down just because it's summer. 3. Mosquito repellent: Mosquito spray, patches, wristbands – bring everything you can. Forest mosquitoes can really carry you away. 4. Don't trust "northernmost" gimmicks: Many businesses claim to be "northernmost," but they aren't truly the northernmost. The actual northernmost point is at Wusuli Shoal, marked by a "China's Northernmost Point" monument. 5. Respect local customs: Mohe has many ethnic minorities and is a border region. Be sure to follow regulations and avoid photographing military facilities or similar. 💭 Final Thoughts Before going to Mohe, I thought the purpose of this trip was to see the aurora. Only after going did I realize that the process of 'finding North' itself was incredibly interesting. When you stand at China's northernmost tip, with the Heilongjiang River at your feet, Russia across the border, and the Daxing'anling forest behind you, that feeling is truly magical. You suddenly realize: Wow, I've really reached the northernmost edge of China! This sense of ritual, perhaps, is the meaning of travel. Mohe in July is truly comfortable – cool, not overly crowded, and there's a chance to see the aurora. Who gets it?! Mohe in June is truly the most romantic place in China! While the rest of the country is welcoming summer, this place is experiencing the dual romance of the midnight sun and the aurora. 2026 is a peak year for solar activity, meaning a super high probability of aurora outbreaks, especially around the summer solstice. Midnight sun + aurora – this is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience! Today, I'm sharing with you the most complete aurora chasing guide, summarized from my three years of aurora chasing in Mohe! ✨ June Mohe Aurora Chasing Window, Don't Miss Out Key point! The 10 days around June 21st, the summer solstice, are the golden period for aurora chasing in Mohe! This is precisely when solar activity peaks, making the probability of aurora outbreaks exceptionally high. Moreover, around the summer solstice, Mohe experiences the midnight sun phenomenon, where it's still bright at 11 PM and bright again at 2 AM. Although the night is short, the chances of seeing the aurora are particularly high. The best viewing time is from 10 PM to 2 AM. Make sure to choose a clear, cloudless night and avoid a full moon, as a bright moon can obscure the aurora. Also, be patient; the aurora might appear suddenly, or you might wait all night without seeing it. But once you do, it's all worth it! 📸 8 Secret Aurora Viewing Spots by Locals, Avoid the Crowds Don't all crowd into Beiji Village! These places are the best for aurora viewing, with very little light pollution: 1. Heilongjiang Riverbank in Beihong Village: This is my top choice! Beihong Village is more primitive than Beiji Village, with less light pollution. There are no lights along the Heilongjiang Riverbank, offering an incredibly open view, directly across from Russia. Watching the aurora here, with green light bands dancing over the Heilongjiang River and reflecting on the water, is truly beautiful! 2. Near the Northernmost Outpost in Beiji Village: This spot is a bit far from the village, with less light pollution, and its high elevation offers good views. Many locals watch the aurora here, and if you're lucky, you might even see soldiers and the aurora in the same frame. 3. The Small Hill Next to Mohe Dance Hall: This is a favorite spot for local young people, with high elevation, open views, and little light pollution. After watching the aurora, you can even go dancing at the Mohe Dance Hall, which is a great vibe. 4. Jiugu Shiba Wan (Nine Bends and Eighteen Turns) Observation Deck: This spot is high up, overlooking the entire wetland, offering excellent views. The aurora dancing over the wetland, combined with its reflection, is truly stunning. 5. Longjiang First Bend: Although a bit further from the city, it's absolutely worth it! The Heilongjiang River makes a big bend here, and the aurora dancing over the river creates a scene you'll never forget. 6. Deep in the Birch Forest: Watching the aurora in the birch forest, with green aurora light filtering through the white tree trunks, creates a magical, fairytale-like atmosphere, and the photos turn out incredibly beautiful. 7. Guanyin Mountain: This spot is high, free of light pollution, and exceptionally quiet. Watching the aurora here feels particularly ceremonial. 8. In the Courtyard of Your Own Homestay: If your homestay is a bit further from the village and has less light pollution, you can watch the aurora right from your courtyard, even lying down, which is incredibly comfortable. 🌞 Midnight Sun Experience, the Magical Feeling of 24 Hours of Daylight The most magical thing about Mohe in June is the midnight sun! At 11 PM, it's still bright, like dusk, and by 2 AM, it's bright again. You can take a walk along the Heilongjiang River at midnight, watching the sky faintly bright and the river shrouded in mist – it's truly magical. You can also take photos at 1 AM when the light is incredibly soft, like a golden hour, making for beautiful pictures. Or go for a midnight barbecue; Mohe's barbecue restaurants stay open very late. During the midnight sun, everyone's schedule is disrupted, and many people are still out and about at 2 or 3 AM, which is very interesting. 🌲 Mohe Summer Activities, More Than Just Aurora Chasing In June, besides chasing the aurora, Mohe offers many other fun activities: Hiking in the Greater Khingan Mountains: The Greater Khingan Mountains are especially beautiful in June, with lush greenery everywhere and incredibly fresh air. Hike in Mohe National Forest Park, walk through the primeval forest, listen to birdsong, and watch the streams – it's incredibly healing. Heilongjiang River Cruise: Take a cruise on the Heilongjiang River, see the Russian villages on the opposite bank, and even spot Russian sentries – it's quite fascinating. Evenki Reindeer Tribe: Here you'll find reindeer and Evenki chuluozi (traditional tents). You can feed the reindeer and listen to Evenki elders tell their stories, which is very interesting. In June, there's also birch juice, a summer exclusive that's particularly delicious. Northernmost Point Check-in: Go to Wusuli Shoal, which is China's true northernmost point, even further north than Beiji Village. Check in here with "Congratulations, you've found North!" – it's a very ceremonial experience. 🍲 Mohe Cuisine, Hearty Northeastern Delights Mohe's cuisine consists of hearty Northeastern dishes, with generous portions and incredible flavor: Iron Pot Stewed Goose: This is a must-try! The goose meat is stewed until incredibly tender, the potatoes are creamy, and there are corn pancakes to dip in the broth – absolutely delicious! I recommend "Lao Lijia Iron Pot Stew" in Beiji Village; all the locals go there. Pork Stew with Sauerkraut: Sauerkraut, pork belly, and blood sausage stewed together, with a rich and flavorful broth that's perfect with rice. Northeastern sauerkraut is truly delicious, sour and refreshing. Northeastern Da La Pi (Cold Noodle Salad): Smooth and chewy, with rich sesame paste, it's especially refreshing in summer. A large plate costs 15 yuan, very affordable. Blueberry Ice Cream: This is a Mohe specialty, made with wild blueberries, incredibly delicious and so refreshing in summer. There's also wild blueberry juice, sweet and sour and thirst-quenching. Guo Bao Rou (Sweet and Sour Pork): A Northeastern specialty, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, sweet and sour – a must-eat. 💡 Exclusive Aurora Chasing Tips 1. Download an aurora forecast app and check the KP index in advance; a KP index greater than 3 means you might see the aurora. 2. Bring a thick down jacket! That's right, it's only a few degrees Celsius at night in Mohe in June, so it's very cold. 3. Be sure to bring a tripod for your camera; aurora photography requires long exposure. 4. Don't make loud noises; the aurora is very sensitive, and quiet waiting makes it more likely to appear. 5. Find a local guide; they know where the aurora is most likely to appear. Accommodation 🏨 Mohe Beiji Village Shiyezhiyou Homestay Located in the core area of Beiji Village, covering nearly 20,000 square meters, with lakes, wetlands, and primeval forests, equipped with a cafe, bar, and concert venue, it's an excellent spot for stargazing and aurora viewing. 🏨 Mohe Beihong Village Beijiguang Homestay Located on the Heilongjiang Riverbank in Beihong Village, with minimal light pollution, it's the best location for aurora observation. It features a Northeastern farmhouse style and offers authentic Northeastern dishes. The owner is a local aurora chasing expert. 🏨 Mohe Birch Forest Resort Hotel Surrounded by birch forests, with an original ecological natural environment and fresh air. The rooms are spacious and bright, and you can watch the aurora from your room at night, offering extreme privacy. 🏨 Mohe Guanyin Mountain Zen Hotel Situated at the foot of Guanyin Mountain, with high elevation and good views, and very little light pollution. In the freezing far north of China, Mohe emerges as the final frontier between humanity and the sky. During winter, snow blankets every road in white, birch forests stand frozen in the cold mist, and the sun only shines for a few fleeting hours each day. As night falls, pale purple and emerald green auroras dance across the sky, their light reflecting off the thick ice of the Heilongjiang River, sparkling like glass. Wooden cabins flicker with warm yellow light, and chimney smoke spirals upward into the minus-thirty-degree air, creating a mood that is both delightfully solitary and deeply cozy. The chime of sleigh bells and reindeer tracks etched into the snow evoke visions of a distant Arctic wonderland. Mohe is more than just the edge of China—it is the frontier of time itself, a place where you can reach out and touch the pristine silence of the northern skies.

I’ve tried all 3 ways of getting around between cities in China — and honestly, each one has its place. I took the China High-Speed Rail from Chengdu (成都) to Chongqing (重庆) before, and it was exactly what people say — clean, comfortable, and very efficient. But on another trip, I tried something different. From Chongqing (重庆) to Leshan (乐山)I took a DiDi 拼车 instead. The reason was simple — convenience. It was hotel-to-hotel. No need to take a ride to the train station, then another ride again after arriving. And surprisingly, “hitch” 拼车 was cheaper than a regular private ride, with plenty of drivers available. With luggage in tow, this actually felt much easier than taking the train. But not all routes are the same. For example, from Harbin (哈尔滨) to Mohe (漠河)— Driving takes around 13 hours, while the train takes 17–18 hours. In this case, I would still choose the train. At least you can move around, rest properly, and not worry about a tired driver on such a long journey. That said, not all trains are equal. I tried the traditional 绿皮火车 (non-high-speed train), and it was quite an experience — but also a bit chaotic. Even with higher-grade tickets, you’re likely sharing a cabin (4 beds), and the general compartments can feel quite packed (3-tier bunks). One thing I noticed — during winter, flights are often delayed or cancelled due to weather. So trains become a much more reliable option. But in seasons like spring or summer, flying is still the fastest and most comfortable choice. #holidayitinerary #chinatravel #china #highspeedrail #didi #travelchina #asiatravel #traveldebate #tripplanning #traintravel

🚨 This is my 2nd trip to China 🚨 After the visa-free policy for Thais was announced, I took my first trip from Macau to Guangzhou. I was absolutely blown away by China, so I decided to visit again during my long holiday. And just like that, trip number two was born... 🌸 I searched for the cheapest flights to any Chinese city during my time off... and ended up booking Bangkok - Lijiang. 🌸 I purposely chose a flight with an overnight layover so I could go out and explore, staying at an airport hotel that offered a free shuttle service. 🌸 For most of my stays, I specifically picked accommodations that offered special welcome gifts. 🌸 For each destination, I did a bit of my own research and then had the hotel help me book shared group tours with other travelers. 🌸 Since I spent all day exploring and just needed a place to crash, I didn’t care about staying anywhere fancy. My only requirements were a non-smoking room and a clean bathroom. I'm totally fine sleeping in a nice hotel or a budget hostel. 🌸 I explored the Yunnan region: Kunming, Dali, Lijiang, and Shangri-La for 8 days. 🌸 Then, I flew all the way to Beijing to take in its epic history, and hopped on a train for a 5-day side trip to Tianjin. 🌸 I love experiencing the local way of life, so I took a budget train from Beijing up to Harbin. 🌸 I spent 10 days exploring the Harbin area, including Mohe and Snow Valley. I originally went to Mohe for 5 days hoping to catch the Northern Lights, but sadly, they didn't show up. Instead, I just wandered around the city and ended up really loving the vibe. 🌸 Back in Harbin, I managed to get tickets to the Snow Valley village for another 3 days. I paid 200 RMB for an activity pass that included skiing, snowboarding, and some fun kids' rides. That was totally enough for me! (There's also a 400 RMB option if you want to add snowmobiles and banana boats.) 🌸 I’m a pretty laid-back traveler. I’d much rather get recommendations from locals than just follow viral reviews. I never stress about hitting all the "must-see" spots other influencers talk about. Honestly, it always leads to more rewarding and unique experiences in places that are way off the beaten path. 🌸 Before flying back to Thailand, I booked a flight with a layover in Qingdao—and even scored a free hotel stay from the airline! ☀ BKK - Kunming - Lijiang - Shangri-La - Dali - Kunming --- Beijing - Tianjin --- Harbin - Mohe - Snow Valley - Harbin -- Qingdao --- BKK 🌸 I booked everything through Trip.com and used my Trip Coins for discounts. The actual cost of the trip was around 40K THB, but I only ended up paying 26K! 🥰 If you’re a 9-to-5 worker like me, good financial planning goes a long way. You can save so much money while gaining experiences that are truly one-of-a-kind. 🥰 Happy travels, everyone!

A popular photo spot in Beiji Village that many must visit before heading out to hunt for the Northern Lights. Shenzhou Beiji Square is an open plaza in the heart of the Arctic Village. The atmosphere is serene, surrounded by leafless trees in winter. It features a large archway topped with a sculpture that has become a local landmark. Tourists love taking low-angle shots here, posing as if they are pointing at or reaching out to touch the sculpture, resulting in fun and unique photos. During the day, the vibe is relaxed and uncrowded, perfect for a leisurely stroll. As evening falls, the temperature drops rapidly, but the square's lights turn on, giving the place a warm and inviting glow. The great thing about this spot is its spaciousness—it's super easy to take photos and find your way around, as it's located near many accommodations in the village. Overall, Shenzhou Beiji Square is a small, simple yet charming landmark. It's the perfect place to drop by for photos, take a walk, and use as a starting point for exploring the Arctic Village in Mohe.

Others come to Mohe to find the North, but I come to Mohe to “undergo a trial”! Yet this “trial” has truly convinced me, the aftereffects are intense! Please keep this freshly released extreme cold survival guide! 🚤【Core Experience|3 Days 2 Nights Ultimate Northern Adventure】 The way to enjoy Mohe is not to lie back like in Sanya, but to find ultimate romance in extreme cold. Three days is enough to capture the essence of winter in the northern land. Day 1: Arrival at the Arctic · The Northernmost Ceremony After arriving in Mohe, take a private car directly to Arctic Village (about 1.5 hours), stay in a local farmhouse, and sleep on a heated kang bed! In the afternoon, visit the northernmost post office and send a postcard to your future self; at dusk, watch the sunset over the Heilongjiang River from the doorstep of the northernmost home, with Russia right across the river. The highlight of the night: throwing water to freeze! Borrow a thermos from the homestay owner, fill it with hot water, and as night falls, throw it with force—the water instantly freezes into a sparkling arc of ice crystals. Filming this for your social media will definitely get tons of likes! Day 2: Climb High and Look Far · Chance to See the Aurora Get up early to watch the sunrise at the village square, then drive to Longjiang First Bay (about 2 hours). Hike up over 900 steps to overlook the entire “Ω”-shaped river bay—this breathtaking view is beyond words. Have a simple lunch in the scenic area, then head to the Ussuri shoal to find the giant rock engraved with “China’s Northernmost Point” and check in successfully! Stay overnight in Beihong Village, which is the true northernmost village in China, more primitive than Arctic Village, with less light pollution, making it the best spot to observe the aurora (though the chance is very low, it’s nice to have the hope). Day 3: Fairy Tale Tour · Meet Santa Claus In the morning, visit Christmas Village to take photos with Santa Claus who came all the way from Finland, see the snow-covered Christmas post office and wooden houses, as if stepping into a fairy tale world. In the afternoon, try horse-drawn sledding or winter fishing to experience the most traditional ice and snow activities of Northeast China. Then return to Mohe city, visit the 56 Fire Memorial Hall, and then start your journey home. 🏨【Accommodation Guide|Warmth in the Extreme Cold】 In Mohe, your accommodation greatly affects your travel experience, but luckily there are many options to suit all budgets. · For unique experiences: Choose farmhouse kang beds in Arctic Village or Beihong Village, 150-300 RMB/night. Sleeping on a warm kang while outside is minus 40 degrees on the snowy plains is an incredible contrast! The owners are very hospitable and can help arrange private cars and itineraries. · For comfort seekers: There are also decent hotels and guesthouses in Arctic Village, priced between 400-800 RMB, with private bathrooms and floor heating, quieter environment, suitable for those who care about accommodation quality. · For budget travelers: Ordinary hotels in Mohe city, 100-200 RMB/night, facilities may be old but heating is sufficient, very cost-effective as a transit stop. ⚠️Avoid pitfalls: Wherever you stay, ask in advance if there is 24-hour hot water and if the water pressure is strong—this is crucial in extreme cold areas! 📸【Photo Guide|Secrets to Stunning Social Media Posts】 Throwing Water to Freeze: Around sunrise, find an open area, throw 100°C boiling water forcefully into the air behind you, use burst mode to capture, and make sure the background has backlight for the best effect. Snowfield Portraits: Wear bright colors like red, blue, or yellow to contrast strongly with the pure white background. Lying in the snow or running shots both create a great atmosphere. Starry Sky/Star Trails: Beihong Village is an excellent spot. Bring a tripod and wide-angle lens, set parameters (ISO 1600-3200, shutter 20-30s), the Milky Way will be right overhead. Frozen River Surface: On the Heilongjiang River ice, photograph the Russian village across the river or tire tracks on the ice for a vast and desolate feeling. 💡【Pre-Trip Preparation|Must-Read for Safety】 Electronics: Bring multiple power banks as phones drain quickly. Have at least two camera batteries—one for outdoor shooting, one kept warm inside your clothes. Skincare and Moisturizing: The temperature difference indoors and outdoors in the north is huge and extremely dry. Bring high-moisture cream, lip balm, and hand cream, or your skin will crack and peel. Medicine: Bring cold medicine and stomach medicine to prevent discomfort caused by temperature changes. Mindset: Stay calm and accept possible delays or inconveniences due to weather. Unexpected events during the trip are part of the scenery.

Mohe is a city located at the northernmost part of China in Heilongjiang Province. Known as "the coldest city in China," temperatures can drop significantly. It is a popular destination for viewing the Aurora Borealis from December to February and experiencing heavy snowfall in the North Pole Village. Explore the city and admire European-style architecture both during the day and at night. Travel: Take a train from Harbin to Mohe.

Take the Snow Country Train directly to Mohe, experience the thrill of throwing boiling water into the air at -40°C, and wait for the aurora amidst birch forests. Located across the river from Russia, Mohe endures long and harsh winters with temperatures often plunging below -40°C. Here, you’ll find China’s northernmost post office, outpost, and even a chance to witness the rare aurora borealis. This "Mohe Extreme Cold Guide to Finding the North and Birch Forests" will take you on a journey to experience the purest icy solitude on Earth.👇 🥶 Extreme cold and the ultimate snowy fairytale experience: 📍 Arctic Village and "Boiling Water Turns to Ice": A romantic challenge of physical limits Sensory immersion: Step into Arctic Village (entry fee around $75 HKD), where everything is named "northernmost." At 7 AM, you can experience the magical "boiling water turns to ice" phenomenon! Fill a kettle with freshly boiled water at 100°C, head outdoors to the -40°C open space, and throw the boiling water into the air in a perfect arc. The extreme temperature difference instantly transforms the water into ice mist, producing a crisp "swish" sound, resembling blooming icy fireworks under the morning light. By this time, your eyelashes and hair will be frosted, and even the tiny hairs in your nasal cavity will freeze upon breathing—an unforgettable thrill of physical extremes! 📍 Birch Forest and Reindeer Park: Entering a Nordic mythological forest Visual immersion: Leave the village and venture into the vast depths of the Greater Khingan Range. Here, you’ll find stretches of straight, pristine birch forests. Walking on snow up to half a meter thick, you’ll hear the crisp "crunch" beneath your feet. Visit the Ewenki Reindeer Park (entry fee around $35 HKD), buy a basket of moss, and watch as gentle reindeer tread through deep snow to approach you. Their massive antlers are dusted with snowflakes, and their breath condenses into white mist in the air. Pose for photos in a red down jacket amidst the birch forest and reindeer—no filters needed, as this is the most authentic Nordic fairytale. 📍 Northeast Kang Bed and Iron Pot Stewed River Fish: Soul-warming in extreme cold Taste and touch: Spend the night at a local farmhouse with a "heated kang bed" (around $200 HKD/night). Outside, the cold is deadly, but inside, the kang bed heated by burning wood is so warm you’ll need to wear short sleeves. Order a pot of iron pot stewed Heilongjiang river fish (around $180 HKD/pot). The fish, freshly caught from the icy river, has firm meat and is rich in oils. Slow-cooked with homemade soybean paste and paired with cornmeal cakes stuck to the pot’s edge, the hearty fish and hot soup will thaw you completely from the inside out. 💡 Mohe Extreme Cold Survival and Train Tips: 🚆 "Snow Country Train" ticket rush and endurance: The classic way to travel from Harbin to Mohe is by taking green trains like K7039 (a journey lasting 15-18 hours!). You must frantically book "soft sleeper" or "hard sleeper" tickets (around $300-$500 HKD) 14 days in advance on 12306! Avoid hard seats at all costs, or you’ll endure a sleepless night in a crowded carriage. The train’s heating is intense (up to 25°C), and the 60°C temperature difference with the outside often causes thick frost to form on the windows—a romantic sight. 🔋 "Battery death" crisis at -40°C: In Mohe, an iPhone’s battery life is measured in seconds! It will shut down within 10 seconds of exposure. Attach specialized hand warmers to your phone and use a thermal phone case. When bringing cameras indoors from outside, seal them in plastic bags beforehand to prevent condensation from forming on the lens and internal components, which could damage the motherboard. 🧥 Redefining "extreme gear": Down jackets bought in Hong Kong are ineffective here. You must wear: thermal underwear + thick sweaters + long polar-grade down jackets (preferably reaching your calves). Shoes must be thick fur snow boots one size larger (with heated insoles inside). Gloves must be waterproof and insulated ski gloves (not knitted gloves, which let the wind through), and hats must cover your ears.

Before taking the Snow Country Train to Mohe, I read countless warnings😭 Only after the trip did I understand—it’s half romance, half reality (complaints). Here’s an unfiltered real test for all the ladies planning to go—just copy my notes! · 🔴 The Snow Country Train takes 17 hours, so be prepared! · 🔴 About Ticket Snatching | Don’t give up on waitlisting! It’s really hard to get tickets! Tourists rely on luck😭… but don’t lose hope! A few days after the official ticket release, a small number of leftover tickets may suddenly appear (I personally succeeded in waitlisting for a hard sleeper!). I recommend setting alarms for ticket release times and continuously refreshing 12306, speed is key. · 🔴 Hard Sleeper Environment | Be mentally prepared (think twice about the upper bunk) ▪️ Cramped space⚠️: You can’t sit upright on the upper or middle bunks; to sit upright, you have to squeeze onto the narrow aisle stool (I’m 160cm and struggled climbing to the upper bunk, tall people beware!) ▪️ Bedding varies: My friend on the lower bunk found some uncleaned items. If you’re picky about cleanliness, bring disposable bedding😮‍💨 ▪️ Charging is luck-based: No outlets in the carriage! But the staff said there are charging ports in the aisle of other carriages (remember to bring a power bank!) · 🌫️ Carriage Experience ▪️ Dolby Atmos snoring: Many people snore, so bring earplugs ▪️ Smoke haze: Smoking is allowed at the connection between two carriages! The smoke drifts into the carriage (bring a mask if sensitive) ▪️ Carriage 4 is the dining car; you can have breakfast in the morning but can’t order à la carte ▪️ Uneven washroom distribution: Every carriage has a toilet, but only some have sinks (expect queues in the morning) ▪️ The area between two carriages is a great photo spot—snow scenery + train atmosphere, every shot looks good! · 🔴 Photo Tips | Better photos at night! Key point! To capture the atmosphere of the writing on the window, take photos at night! After dark, the writing on the window is clearer and the vibe is maximized. Also, the train stops for a long time at Qiqihar, so you can get off to take photos and feel the northern winter vibe. · 🌅 Sunrise Fail Story Got up struggling at 6:40 to watch the sunrise → but fog covered everything… the staff calmly said, “You won’t see it today” (check the weather in advance!) · 🔴 Final honest words If you don’t have high standards for the environment and can accept snoring, crowding, and bedding issues, the Snow Country Train is not bad. But if you’re after ultimate comfort, think twice before choosing the Snow Country Train;

Mohe (漠河) might not be a name you hear often, and for some, it might be the first time hearing it. However, this city in Heilongjiang Province is truly fascinating. Located at a latitude of 53 degrees north, it is the highest point in China, resulting in extremely cold weather lasting 7-8 months a year. Information about Mohe is scarce due to limited reviews, but that’s precisely what makes it pure and unique. Its untouched natural beauty offers a journey that’s not just about "arriving" but "feeling". 🩷 Quick summary: · Domestic flight takes only 2 hours, but there’s a layover? · Birch forests that look like they’re straight out of a fairy tale. · Taking a bus to an unknown destination, ending up at the border with Russia. · First meal in Mohe featuring Liu Gen fish 🐟. · Boutique-style hotel in Beiji Village. · Local-style breakfast. · Experiencing -37°C, the coldest temperature in life ❄️🌨️. · First time riding a horse-drawn sled: glasses turned into ice crystals. · Visiting China’s highest post office to send a postcard to myself. · Playing and feeding live reindeer in the deer park. · Taking photos and receiving a greeting card from Santa imported from Finland in Santa Village. · 🍲❄️ Enjoying the 'Iron Pot Stewed Goose' (Tie Guo Dun), a fragrant dish cooked over a wood stove with tender goose meat 😋🥢. · Countdown at Mohe’s northernmost point amidst -33°C temperatures. · Throwing hot water into the air and watching it turn into vapor. · Taking photos at China’s northernmost point near the Russian border. · Checking in at the North Star Square. · Eating grilled lamb seasoned with mala spice. · Visiting the Forest Fire Memorial Museum. There’s still more to explore. I love this place so much 🫶🏼.
