Yunshuiyao has many attractions... It's a two-hour drive from Xiamen. We visited them in this order: Hegui Tower (filming location of the animation "Big Fish and Begonia"! A marvel built on a swamp!) Yunshuiyao Ancient Town (filming location of "Big Fish and Begonia," "Yunshuiyao," and "Cang Hai Bai Nian"! / Originally named "Changjiao," it was renamed after the movie "Yunshuiyao"! It's beautiful here! Highly recommended! 👍) Huaiyuan Tower ("Chun's Home" in "Big Fish and Begonia") Zhongxing Tower (Museum/Only building you can go upstairs/Clay cats (similar to wind lion gods)/Puppet show!) Tianluokeng Tulou Cluster (also known as "Four Dishes and One Soup"/Four round and one square Tulou!) Yuchang Tower (700-year-old Tulou, leaning from side to side!) I really enjoyed it! This small village, famous for a film, is actually just a small part of Nanjing's Tulou cluster, nestled between Hegui Tower and Huaiyuan Tower. Visitors to both often stop by here. Visiting during the off-season, when there are fewer tourists, the village is tranquil, with Tulou, centuries-old banyan trees, tea tables and chairs nestled beneath them, and cobblestone paths weaving together. Huaiyuan Tower is said to be the best-preserved double-ring circular earth building. Hegui Tower, a square earth building built on a swamp, is also the tallest in Nanjing. Because transportation to Nanjing's earth buildings is difficult, and I was traveling alone, I joined a tour group. A tour leader and a bus picked us up early in the morning at the agreed location (on Xiamen Island). After everyone arrived, we took the expressway to Nanjing, which took nearly three hours. It was a long journey. Upon arrival at the scenic area, another guide took over. We first went to Huaiyuan Tower. The guide diligently explained the building's history, structure, and the uses of the floors. Because I had purchased a tower climbing fee, I was able to ascend and enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view. Perhaps because fewer tourists visit the tower, the floors above the second floor retain more traces of past life, while the corridors on the first floor are mostly occupied by vendors. Walking along a path through the fields, we arrived at Hegui Tower. Besides its square shape, unlike other tulou, its most distinctive feature is that it was known from the outset that it would be built on swampy ground. Yet, they overcame this obstacle and completed the entire building, which has stood for a century. Even today, there's still a small area inside the building where you can experience the feeling of stepping on the soft earth. #NanjingTulou

Fujian Tulou, with its unique round and square structures, has always been on my must-visit list. I've always wanted to witness these special buildings. When traveling in Southern Fujian, you can start from Quanzhou or Xiamen, with just over two hours of travel by car. There are many convenient one-day tours available 👍 Stepping into the Tulou for the first time, I felt an ancient, dusty atmosphere. Aside from the small shops selling souvenirs and drinks, not many people live there anymore. The culture of the Tulou, originally built for communal living and protection, no longer exists as it once did, but one can still imagine the grandeur of hundreds or even thousands of people living together. Those with a keen eye might have noticed the Wind Lion Gods, Thousand-Mile Eyes, and Following-Wind Ears in the courtyard. Does it feel familiar? That's right, it's unmistakably Fujian ❤️

Fujian Tulou counts more than 10,000 buildings, and before I went there, I was a bit confused about how to choose and how to get there, plus there are so many names of Tulou, and I always felt something was missing from the posts online, so I organized my thoughts after coming back for your reference: 🏠Introduction to Tulou 1⃣️History: The people from the Central Plains built Tulou in the south to avoid wars. 2⃣️Shape: Tulou are not only round, they can be categorized into round, square, and Wufeng buildings (symmetrical left and right, lower in the front and higher in the back, with roofs shaped like flying birds, hence the name Wufeng). 3⃣️Structure: There are corridor-style enclosed buildings and unit-style enclosed buildings. Most of the key Tulou scenic areas we visit are corridor-style, meaning the middle parts are interconnected, while unit-style are not. 4⃣️Function: Vertically, each building houses one family, with the kitchen on the first floor, granary on the second, and living quarters above the third floor. Self-driving: Yongding and Nanjing are about 100 kilometers away from Zhangzhou, about a 1-hour drive one way. 4. Public transportation: Tianluokeng/Yunshuiyao/Hekeng have minibuses from Nanjing high-speed rail to the scenic area, and each scenic area is quite scattered, with no taxis available.

Nanjing Tulou, especially Yunshuiyao, is quite famous, and there are many tourists who come from all over to visit~~ Quaint villages, bridges over flowing water, homes amidst the scenery, and sipping tea under the big banyan tree, it's truly pleasant! 🛤️ Travel: If you're from a nearby city, it's recommended to drive 🚗 there. We randomly chose a restaurant called Abao near a big rock, which seemed overall better. They unite to resist foreign enemies, they are hardworking and enduring, and they have built their own magical round houses and live here. Many people who come to Tulou for the first time will hesitate whether to go to Nanjing Tulou or Yongding Tulou.
