Nice travel guide and discussion

I thought I’d seen Hainan... until I climbed Phoenix Ridge in Sanya. This place literally takes your breath away: you walk along a path around the mountain with a sheer 400-meter drop right beneath your feet. Your heart skips a beat, but you just can’t stop moving. 😍 🌿 A Walk Above the Clouds The summit trail is a roughly 2km trek through a lush tropical forest. The trees rustle, the birds sing, and the air is fresh and cool. But the most powerful moments are when the path opens up to the cliff’s edge. Looking down, you see the precipice below, while in the distance, all of Sanya unfolds—four bays and Phoenix Island sitting in the water. It’s in these moments you realize why this place is called the "observation deck of the entire city." 🌆🌊 I walked slowly, clutching the handrails, yet I could still feel that mix of pure thrill and a hint of fear deep inside. It’s more than just a walk; it’s an emotion you’ll want to experience over and over again. 💓 🚠 How I Got to the Top · 🚖 Took a taxi to the entrance of Phoenix Ridge Sea Oath Scenic Area (Jiyang District, Sanya). · 🚡 Hopped on the air-conditioned cable car for a 12-minute ride over the forest. The views from there are already a separate thrill! · 🥾 At the top, I completed the loop trail: the glass platform, the "Nine Turns" Bridge, the Crystal Chapel, and several panoramic terraces. ℹ️ Essential Things to Know Before Your Visit · 📍 Address: No. 300 Longling Road, Jiyang District, Sanya, Hainan, China. · ⏰ Hours: Mon, Wed–Sun 09:00–23:00; Tue 13:00–23:00; last entry 21:30. · 🎫 Tickets: Low season ~88 RMB, High season ~106 RMB (includes round-trip cable car). · 👶 Children under 1.2m or 6 years old — free; seniors and students — at a discount. · 🌇 Best time: Arrive by 17:30–18:30 to catch the sunset and see the city lights. 💡 My Tips for the Best Experience · 📸 Bring a phone with a great camera—the views are worth it. · 👟 Wear comfortable shoes—the path is uneven in spots. · 😌 Don't rush: stop at the terraces, breathe, and soak in the view. · 🌃 Stay until dark—nighttime Sanya from above looks like a field of scattered stars. An incredible journey into the clouds awaits you! Sources

🇫🇷Back from France a week ago, I dare not look through my photo album. Every time I do, it's filled with pictures of the Seine's breeze, the sea in Nice, and the sound of the tide at Mont Saint-Michel. This trip included Paris, Provence, Nice, and Mont Saint-Michel. The beauty was real, but so were the pitfalls. I'll leave behind both the excitement and the things to avoid. ✨Highlights of the Trip 📍Paris - Eiffel Tower The lights flash for 5 minutes on the hour. Don't crowd at the base. See it from the Palais de Chaillot on the opposite bank, or from a Seine cruise—it's much more romantic. 📍Louvre Museum Don't try to see everything in one day. Pick three: Mona Lisa, Winged Victory of Samothrace, and Venus de Milo. Leave the rest of the time for the water lilies at the Musée de l'Orangerie. 📍Montmartre Go in the evening. From the steps of the Sacré-Cœur Basilica, Paris unfolds before you; when the street performers start singing, the whole city softens. 📍Versailles Palace The Hall of Mirrors is the first stop in the morning. Gardens are more worthwhile than palaces; rent a car to explore, otherwise your legs will give out. 📍Provence, Valensole Lavender fields stretch to the horizon from late June to mid-July. Sault's blooming season is a little later, so don't go to the wrong place. 📍Nice-Éze A stone village perched on a cliff, with a hilltop botanical garden offering unrealistically blue views of the Mediterranean. 📍Mont Saint-Michel Looks like an island at high tide. Stay overnight, and once the tourists leave and the lights come on, it feels like stepping into the Middle Ages. 📍Colmar Little Venice-like pier, with colorful houses reflected in the water. The hometown of the Statue of Liberty's composer, it's full of fairytale charm. 🗺️Itinerary Paris 3 days: Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Montmartre, Seine River night cruise. Versailles 1 day: Go early, return to Paris in the afternoon to explore the Marais district. Provence 2 days: Depart from Avignon, Valensole + Sault. Nice (2 days): Old Town, Promenade des Anglais, Eze, Monaco. Mont Saint-Michel (1 day): Round trip from Paris, or overnight stay. Colmar (1 day): Day trip from Strasbourg. 🍽️Food Highlights Croissant: Eat them hot, the crust will be amazing! Baguette sandwiches: Street vendors are better than those in tourist areas. Snails with garlic flavor: order if you dare! Duck confit with potatoes: crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. Macarons: choose pistachios and raspberries. Crêpes with butter and sugar: eat them hot on the street. Oysters with white wine: freshest by the sea. Restaurants charge for water; say "une carafe d'eau" for free tap water. ⚠️Travel Tips Museums: book in advance online; many are closed on Mondays. Most shops are closed on Sundays; avoid shopping. Metro: frequent ticket checks; don't lose your ticket. Pickpockets frequent the Eiffel Tower, Louvre, and metro. Wear your backpack in front. Strikes are common; check traffic information before you go out. Tipping in restaurants is not mandatory; leave 1-2 euros for good service. Public toilets charge a fee; have coins on hand. Tax refunds are processed at the airport; allow extra time. European plugs; bring an adapter. Carry little cash, but keep some in small towns. English is fluent, but saying "Bonjour" before speaking will make your attitude much better. France is not perfect. The metro is old, strikes are frequent, and pickpockets are a nuisance. But imagine sitting outside the Louvre at dusk, watching the clouds drift over the pyramids. Or a morning on the beach in Nice, watching elderly people walk their dogs and bakeries open. You'll understand why so many people go back again and again. Don't rush. Spend an afternoon sitting on a street corner drinking coffee. Watch passersby, daydream, wait for the sunset. That's France. 🇫🇷A week after returning from France, I dare not look through my photo album. A quick trip reveals the Seine breeze, the Nice sea, and the sound of the tides at Mont Saint-Michel. Monaco is one of the world's most expensive cities, yet you can explore it almost for free: · Palace Square — changing of the guard daily at 11:55, free entry · Monte Carlo Canyon — the supercar street; prices don't matter, the spectacle does · Japanese Garden — free and quiet, right in the center · The waterfront promenade — from the port to Larvotto, ~40 minutes on foot · Casino exterior — gaming rooms are 18+, but photographing the façade is allowed Budget for the day: 0 € on attractions, ~10–15 € on food (a shawarma or bakery snack in town). Tip: Take the train from Nice — 20 minutes, ~4 € per ticket. Driving into Monaco is pointless: parking starts at 30 €/day. #Monaco #FrenchRiviera #BudgetTravel

Nice turned out to be one of those cities where I could spend an entire day exploring without opening my wallet. The Mediterranean views alone were enough to keep me walking. I started along the Promenade des Anglais, following the coastline from the blue chairs toward the Old Town. The nearly seven kilometre waterfront is completely free, and I loved stopping whenever the sea looked especially beautiful. From there, I wandered through Vieux Nice, getting lost among colorful buildings and narrow lanes before reaching Cours Saleya. Even without buying anything, walking through the flower market was a fun experience. Later, I climbed Castle Hill for the views. The paths, greenery, waterfall, and panorama over the Baie des Anges made the walk well worth the effort. There’s even a free lift if you don’t feel like taking the stairs. I also wandered through Place Masséna, Promenade du Paillon, Place Garibaldi, Port Lympia, and the beaches. For a city on the Côte d’Azur, Nice gave me surprisingly many beautiful experiences for €0. #nice #france

The honest truth❗️ France is super romantic, but I really don't recommend just showing up in September–October 😭 I've been to France 3 times and have made mistakes in every season! Let's start with the most honest conclusion: France is beautiful all year round, but September–October is an awkward period where it's easiest to feel "let down." Many people are lured by online photos of yellow sycamore leaves in Paris or the gentle autumn days in the South of France, only to feel emo the moment they land! No hype, no bashing—this post is based on the real experiences of an average traveler. If you're planning to head to France in the second half of the year, be sure to read this before you decide! 🇫🇷 🌟 Let's be fair: It's not that France is bad in September–October; it just "depends on the person." If you're a traveler who prefers slow travel, visiting artsy shops, wine tasting, and exploring old towns, these 2 months actually have unique advantages: ✅ Perfectly avoid the crowds and say goodbye to the summer rush July–August is peak season in France; the Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Champs-Élysées, and Nice beaches are packed, and waiting in line for 2 hours to play for 10 minutes is the norm. Starting in September, tourist numbers drop off a cliff, and by October, it's fully in the off-season transition. You won't have to squeeze through crowds to visit museums, walk through old town streets, or stroll along the Seine. It's easy to take photos without people in them and enjoy an immersive, relaxed French vibe. ✅ Extremely comfortable temperatures, no more suffering from scorching heat The South of France in midsummer can be unbearably hot, with temperatures over 35℃+. You'll be sweating and your makeup will melt within 5 minutes of going out, making it impossible to properly explore towns or hike to see the scenery. In September–October, the average temperature is 12–24℃. It's not stuffy or dry, and the sunlight is gentle and soft. It's the peak season for French-style outfits—trench coats, knitwear, and suits look amazing in photos—and it's super comfortable for walking and shopping. ✅ Beautiful autumn filter, maximum city gentleness Starting in late September, the sycamore trees along the streets of Paris slowly turn yellow, and the Tuileries Garden, Luxembourg Gardens, and Montmartre are filled with golden-brown fallen leaves. Sunlight filters through the branches, giving all of Paris a built-in vintage movie filter. Every photo looks like a scene from a K-drama or a lazy, stylish French film. It's a gentle texture that spring and summer just can't provide. ✅ Exclusive romance of wine season, a foodie's delight September–October is the grape harvest season in Burgundy and Bordeaux! Estates open up for picking, wine tasting, and tours of the winemaking process. It's the best time of year for a vacation at a French winery—niche and high-end. Experienced travelers who know how to travel always choose this time. ❌ Major warning! Average travelers, definitely don't rush into this! The fatal flaws of September–October With so many pros, why do I still not recommend it for average tourists or first-time visitors to France? Because there are too many hidden pitfalls that can ruin your entire travel experience! 1. Unpredictable weather, sudden rainy season, photos ruined The internet only raves about the beauty of autumn in France; no one tells you that September–October is the rainy season as the seasons change! Especially in Paris, northern Normandy, and Strasbourg, overcast, cloudy, and drizzly days are the norm. There are no clear blue skies or bright sunshine like in spring and summer; the sky is often gray and foggy. Occasional sunny days are fleeting, followed by continuous light rain. The wind is super strong, and it's very humid. The cold, damp feeling is worse than just a drop in temperature. Your carefully planned outfits and makeup won't look good in photos on rainy days, and the romantic Paris you expected turns into a gray, oppressive city. The South of France is relatively better, but it also rains frequently in mid-to-late October, and the wind by the sea is fierce. You can't leisurely stroll along the coastlines of Nice or Cannes. 2. Days get shorter rapidly, effective sightseeing time cut in half This is the biggest hidden pitfall of September–October!! In summer, France has very long days; it's still bright at 10 PM, so you can spend the whole day visiting attractions and getting things done. But starting in September, it gets dark noticeably earlier. By October, dusk starts after 4 PM, and it's completely dark by 5 PM! Your effective sightseeing time per day is only about 6 hours. France has so many attractions: the Louvre, Versailles, the Seine, old towns, beaches, small towns... Your itinerary gets squeezed tight. You don't dare sleep in, and you're rushing around in the afternoon. There's no "relaxed French travel" vibe at all; you're just exhausted from rushing every day! 3. Polarized scenery, peak beauty is all offline Many people think all of France is beautiful in autumn, but they are dead wrong! ✅ France in spring/summer: Lavender and sunflower fields everywhere in the South of France, green fields, crystal-clear lakes, and deep blue seas. The whole country is vibrant and full of life—this is the "beautiful, romantic France" that everyone knows. ❌ France in September–October: The flower fields in Provence have completely finished blooming, and the fields are withered and desolate, with zero "Instagrammable" filter; Normandy, Mont Saint-Michel, and major national parks have withered vegetation, and the scenery is monotonous and dull; Only the sycamore trees in downtown Paris look good. Aside from city streetscapes, the natural scenery is basically all offline! If it's your first time in France and you want to see flower fields, blue seas, and healing countryside, you will be 100% disappointed! 4. Serious price premiums in September, very low cost-performance Many people think September is the off-season and prices are cheap, but the reality is the exact opposite! September is packed with Paris Fashion Week and various international exhibitions. Hotel and flight prices remain high, and homestays in popular areas have serious price premiums. There is absolutely no off-season value. Prices don't drop until mid-to-late October. It's basically a month where you get no beautiful scenery, no long days, and it's expensive—a total "sucker's" month to travel. 5. Many activities shut down, travel variety greatly reduced Entering autumn, many unique outdoor activities in France gradually stop operating: All water activities on the beaches of the South of France close, and open-air markets in small towns are significantly reduced; Some rural hiking trails, riverside leisure facilities, and outdoor exhibitions close periodically; Many niche "Instagrammable" spots and outdoor cafes shorten their business hours. If you want to experience a rich French vacation vibe, autumn is really far inferior to spring and summer! ✅ Ultra-precise France travel "do's and don'ts" list | Beginners can just copy this 💛 [Go for it · Golden best time: June–August] France's beauty is at its peak all year! Sunny days everywhere, very long days, flower fields everywhere, lush green vegetation, and deep blue seawater. All attractions, markets, and outdoor activities are open. Whether it's a city tour of Paris, wandering through small towns in the South of France, a beach vacation, or visiting wineries, the experience is maxed out. For your first trip to France, this is the time to choose! 💛 [First choice for niche artsy types: Late September–Early October] Only suitable for: wine tasting, visiting shops, taking photos, slow-paced Paris strolling, and in-depth artsy travelers. Not suitable for: first-time visitors, those wanting to see panoramic scenery, those rushing through an itinerary, or family vacations. 💔 [Absolute avoid period: Late October–November] Continuous rain, temperatures plummeting, desolate scenery, very short days. The travel experience completely collapses—beginners, stay away! 📍 Must-save for beginners | Classic must-visit attractions in France all year round (suitable for all 4 seasons) ▫️ Downtown Paris ✔️ Eiffel Tower: Beautiful at sunset on sunny days; the vibe is halved on cloudy days ✔️ Louvre: Can be visited indoors all year round, unaffected by weather ✔️ Seine River cruise: Summer evening breeze is legendary; autumn is cold, windy, and a poor experience ✔️ Montmartre: Autumn yellow leaves are super romantic, great for photos ▫️ Small towns in the South of France ✔️ Provence: Only recommended in summer! No flower fields in autumn, not recommended ✔️ Nice's Angel Bay, Cannes seaside: Blue seas and skies in spring/summer; windy and rainy in autumn ▫️ Classic outskirts ✔️ Palace of Versailles: Outdoor gardens are beautiful in spring/summer; vegetation is withered and average in autumn ✔️ Bordeaux/Burgundy wineries: Exclusive peak season in September–October, perfect for wine tasting ✍️ Final heartfelt summary France is truly a romantic country worth visiting for a lifetime. Spring and summer are a healing fairy tale, winter is a gentle fairy tale, only autumn is the most awkward! ✅ If it's your first time going, you want to check off the most beautiful parts of France, and you want to see blue seas, flower fields, and blue skies 👉 Definitely don't choose September–October! Prioritize June–August! ✅ If you've been to France in spring/summer, prefer a slow, artsy life, and are coming specifically for autumn scenery + red wine 👉 September–October is fine to go; it's niche, less crowded, and the vibe is maxed out. Don't blindly follow the crowd; choose the right time to encounter the most romantic France✨

Guys, the Euro exchange rate is really no joke now. 💸 As a Penangite who loves history and old buildings, France has been on my bucket list forever. Finally made it, but I had to do it the smart way so my wallet wouldn't bleed too much! 🥲 Here’s how I enjoyed Paris and Nice without going broke: 🗼 Paris Vibe Check: 1. Montmartre & Sacré-Cœur: A must-go for history lovers! Go during sunset. The street musicians outside the church create the best vibe. My 37-year-old knees complained a bit climbing the steps, but the view of Paris is absolutely free and priceless! 🌇 2. Louvre Museum: Don't pay for those super expensive VIP tours. Just book the normal slots early on their official website. 3. Eiffel Tower: Skip the pricey 200€ dinners. I just went to the Place du Trocadéro steps for that perfect shot. Zero cost, maximum aesthetics! 📸 🌊 Nice (South of France): 1. Nice Old Town (Vieux Nice): Honestly, wandering around the colorful, historic alleys gave me slight George Town vibes, but European style! 🏰 Perfect for architecture walks. 2. Save on TGV: Book your train from Paris to Nice 3 months early! If you buy last minute, the price will give you a heart attack, trust me. Also, pack your own snacks for the train ride, food onboard is super pricey. 💡 Quick survival tips for Malaysians: · Keep your backpack in front! Pickpockets there are fast like lightning. ⚡️ · Sunday most shops are closed, so buy your snacks and water early. · Opt for the 'Formule' (set menu) at local bistros—much cheaper than ala carte! You don't need to be a millionaire to enjoy the historic side of France. Just plan smart, walk a lot, and enjoy the views! Safe travels, guys! ✈️🌍

The atmosphere here is even better than expected 💙 Strolling around feels so chill with such good vibes; the city is clean, well-organized, and incredibly relaxing. The highlight is the stretch of crystal-clear blue water along the Promenade des Anglais—perfect for a leisurely walk, cycling, or just sitting back to enjoy the sea breeze 🌊 The city is dotted with beautiful pastel buildings, restaurants, cafes, and local markets to explore. The old town, Vieux Nice, is especially charming with its colorful narrow alleys. If you want a panoramic view of the city and the sea, I highly recommend heading up to Castle Hill—the scenery is breathtaking and perfect for photos. Transportation is also very convenient. You can easily take a train from nearby cities like Cannes or Monaco. Within the city, there are trams and buses, and most major spots are easily walkable. It’s a city that has it all: the beach, a stunning old town, great food, and a peaceful vibe. It's the perfect destination for a slow-life getaway. If you're traveling through the South of France, Nice is an absolute must-visit ✨🇫🇷

🇫🇷✨ If you’re heading to Nice, you absolutely have to spend time getting lost in the Old Town! I have a huge soft spot for European Old Towns, and Nice is no exception. With its narrow cobblestone alleys, it feels like a beautiful little maze. Don’t worry about having a set destination—just let your curiosity lead the way. You’ll stumble upon charming souvenir shops, cozy cafes, and picturesque squares. You'll see churches and laundry hanging between buildings... catching glimpses of how people actually live there is all part of the charm. ✨ Must-Visit Spots: 🧺🌿 Cours Saleya Market Every Monday, the square transforms into the "Marché à la Brocante," an antique lover's paradise. From Tuesday to Sunday, it’s a vibrant market filled with fresh flowers and local produce. You can find perfect souvenirs like lavender potpourri and artisanal soaps. 🌿 Make sure to try "Socca"—a savory local pancake made from chickpea flour and olive oil. It’s best eaten fresh and hot! It’s simple and delicious. 🍦 Fenocchio I found myself coming back to this gelato shop over and over. They have nearly 100 flavors! Choosing is half the fun. You can enjoy your treat at an outdoor table in the square, often accompanied by live music or singing. I ended up going about three times during my stay! 😂 🥐 Boulangerie Maison Kayser - Vieux Nice Another daily stop for me. My absolute favorite was their apricot pastry—it was incredibly delicious! ♡ 🏠 Living Like a Local I stayed in a rented apartment, which allowed me to cook with local ingredients and enjoy coffee in the morning like a resident. It’s a completely different vibe from a hotel and made my time in Nice feel so much more personal. ☕️ Instead of rushing from one tourist attraction to another, I spent my days in the Old Town just wandering without a plan. Browsing the markets, eating gelato, buying bread, and strolling through the alleys—I absolutely loved spending my time that way. If you go to Nice, please take some time to wander the Old Town at your own pace. ✨ Do you love exploring Old Towns? Old Town Sightseeing

Nice is beautiful all year round, but autumn might be one of the best times to visit. The summer crowds are gone, temperatures are much more comfortable, and you can still get plenty of sunshine along the Côte d’Azur. 🌊☀️ Spend the morning walking through Vieux Nice, have lunch at the Cours Saleya market, then head up Castle Hill for the classic view over the city and Mediterranean. And Nice is a great base for exploring nearby places like Èze, Villefranche-sur-Mer, Menton or Antibes by train. The best part? You get the Mediterranean atmosphere without the peak-season crowds and heat. Nice in autumn = sunshine, sea, good food and a much slower pace. 🇫🇷🍷

Hôtel du Couvent, tucked away at the base of Castle Hill in the Old Town where you'll find the most iconic views of Nice. The moment you step inside, you are enveloped by a profound sense of serenity. Restored from a 17th-century monastery, the hotel preserves the historic charm of its original cloisters and courtyards. During its time as a monastery, the vast grounds were used to cultivate medicinal herbs, serving as the local apothecary🌿 The hotel continues this tradition today, growing herbs on-site and offering custom blends at their own herbal pharmacy. Dining at the restaurant features farm-to-table organic produce from their own farm. Combined with the tranquil atmosphere, the entire stay felt like a purification for both mind and body. Antique furniture is set against a palette of soft neutral tones, complemented by the high, vaulted ceilings typical of a monastery. It’s the kind of place where your sense of time simply begins to fade away. Despite the hustle and bustle of Nice's Old Town, stepping inside feels like entering a different world. It was a magnificent stay, offering a perfect escape from reality. I’ll share more about the breakfast, the pool, and the architecture in a later post. · 📍Hôtel du Couvent You can use the hotel’s shuttle service from the entrance of Nice Old Town. Zipping through the narrow, cobbled alleys where cars can't pass in their shuttle cart felt like a fun little ride! · Hotel

#bucketlistdestinations Some destinations get onto my bucket list because of a single image. For Nice, it was that incredible blue Mediterranean stretching alongside the Promenade des Anglais. I wanted to know whether the colors really looked like that. On a sunny day, they absolutely can. The view becomes even better from above. Looking down over the curved coastline from Castle Hill gives you the classic Nice panorama - blue water, the long waterfront and the dense city spreading behind it. But Nice gave me more than the view I came for. The narrow streets and colorful buildings of the Old Town create a completely different atmosphere just a short walk from the sea. That's what made the city work so well for me. I could spend the morning exploring old streets, climb up for panoramic views and end the day beside the Mediterranean without ever really leaving the center. Sometimes a bucket-list destination doesn't need to surprise me. Sometimes I just want reality to look as good as the photos. 🇫🇷🇲🇨 Discover another country you can visit from Nice without a passport, plus a colorful, charming town. After hopping on a train from Nice, my first stop was Villefranche-sur-Mer. This small port town is filled with blooming flowers, crystal-clear water, and vibrant buildings—it was so picturesque I couldn't stop snapping photos. It's compact and easy to explore, and I loved wandering through its narrow alleys ♪ After Villefranche, I took the train straight to Monaco. Believe it or not, Monaco is the world’s second-smallest country and is only about 20 minutes from Nice. 🇲🇨 There are no border controls between France and Monaco, so it was amazing to cross into another country just by riding the train ✨ One thing to watch out for: my ahamo and Rakuten Mobile service barely worked in Monaco, making it tough to look anything up on my phone 😂 If you’re planning to go, I highly recommend downloading offline maps beforehand. These two spots have completely different vibes and are incredibly easy to visit from Nice. I definitely recommend adding both to your South of France itinerary! 🇫🇷🇲🇨✨

The first hotel I stayed at in the South of France 🇫🇷🤍 While Nice has plenty of modern hotels, I wanted to stay in a classical hotel where you can feel the history, so I chose Hotel West End Promenade. This historic hotel sits right on the coast, and the balcony offers a stunning view of the Côte d'Azur 🌊 Opening the curtains every morning was a moment of pure bliss. It was well worth waking up early to see the sunrise. It’s about a 15-minute walk to the Old Town. With the beach right in front of you, it’s perfect for both sightseeing and a resort stay ✨ I was also happy to find that there was a Japanese staff member. It made check-in and the rest of my stay feel very secure and comfortable ☺️ I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a hotel with a classical atmosphere in Nice 🤍 📍Hotel West End Promenade 🇫🇷 Nice, France

Exploring the culinary scene of the South of France was one of the highlights of my trip to Nice 🍋 Here are 7 places I visited that were so good, I’d go back in a heartbeat! 😊 ⸻ 🥙① Chez Thérésa|Nice’s Famous Socca Socca is a traditional dish you absolutely have to try when you’re in Nice ✨ It’s a popular spot, so I had to wait about 20 minutes when I visited. However, they have a large seating area nearby where you can sit and enjoy your food, which is a big plus 😊 When I went, the seating area was relatively empty, so I could relax while I ate ♪ It’s made from chickpeas, but the taste isn’t overpowering. Instead, it has a subtle sweetness like onions, a lovely toasted aroma, a chewy texture, and just the right amount of salt ✨ It’s a local delicacy I recommend everyone try at least once in Nice 🇫🇷 ⸻ 🥐② Le Magenta|Enjoy a Classic French Breakfast Mornings in Nice are best spent relaxing at a cafe with breakfast ☕✨ The breakfast set included: 🥐 A croissant 🥖 A baguette 🍊 Orange juice ☕ A cappuccino The set was more filling than I expected, so I opted to order a croissant and cappuccino à la carte ♪ Spending a morning at a cafe with a flaky croissant became a wonderful memory unique to traveling in France 🇫🇷 ⸻ 🍝③ Le Safari|Mediterranean Dining I visited Le Safari after exploring the Old Town 🍽️ I ordered: 🍝 Oil-based vongole pasta 🥗 A salad 🍷 White wine The dishes really highlight the quality of the ingredients, and I was especially impressed by how delicious the shellfish was ✨ The cheese on the salad was also fantastic. It was a simple dish, but that’s exactly why the quality of the ingredients shone through 😊 This is a great spot for anyone looking to enjoy Mediterranean cuisine ♪ ⸻ 🍅④ Restaurant Chez RiTho "Portovenere"|Exquisite Burrata! Here, I had: 🍅 Tomato penne topped with burrata cheese 🥩 Carpaccio The combination of the rich, creamy burrata and the tomato sauce was perfect ✨ The carpaccio was also delicious, and I was thoroughly satisfied with the entire meal 😊 ⸻ 🍕⑤ Prima Volta|A Pizza and Rosé Lunch I stopped by Prima Volta for lunch 🍕 I ordered: 🍕 Pizza 🥓 A platter of ham and salami (served with bread) 🍷 Rosé wine What really stood out was the cheese on the pizza 🧀✨ It was rich and flavorful, pairing perfectly with the Rosé. The portions were generous, so I ended up taking the leftovers home in a to-go box 😊 I’d recommend this place to anyone looking for a leisurely lunch ♪ ⸻ 🍷⑥ Les Mimosas du Cours|A Perfect Stop While Sightseeing I found this spot while wandering through the Old Town ✨ I had: 🥘 A stew 🥩 Ham 🍊 An orange-colored wine cocktail Sipping on a cute orange wine cocktail while relaxing really captured the atmosphere of the South of France 🍷 It’s the perfect place to take a break between sightseeing stops 😊 ⸻ 🥐⑦ La Maison De Celine Pâtisserie|A Bakery I’ll Definitely Visit Again This is my favorite patisserie in Nice, and a place you should definitely check out 🥐✨ It’s very popular; I had to wait in line for about 10 minutes. I tried: 🥐 A croissant 🍫 Pain au chocolat 🍨 A cinnamon roll Every single one was incredible, with perfectly crispy, flaky pastry ✨ They also had sandwiches that looked delicious 😊 The cakes in the display case were so cute too—I really regret not being able to try one this time… 🍰 If I ever go back to Nice, this is the first place I’m returning to! ♪ ⸻ 🇫🇷 Nice isn’t just about the views; the food is equally amazing ✨ From local specialties and Mediterranean dishes to wine and pastries, finding your own favorite spots while walking around is one of the best parts of visiting Nice 😊 I hope this helps anyone planning a trip to Nice soon! ♪

The French Riviera is about more than just turquoise waters, champagne, and yachts in Port Grimaud. The true soul of this region lies in its canvases, marble, and bold architectural marvels. This is where Matisse found his vibrant colors, Chagall his mysticism, and Picasso experienced the most prolific period of his life. If you're ready to trade your sun lounger for a museum ticket, here are 10 must-visit spots on the cultural map of Provence and the French Riviera: 🎭 20th-Century Masters 1. Marc Chagall National Museum (Nice) 🕊️ The only museum in France built during an artist's lifetime specifically for their personal collection. The crown jewel is the monumental 17-canvas "Biblical Message" cycle. Pro tip: in the summer, visit right after the beach—a stroll through the sculpture garden is the perfect way to cool off from the midday heat. 2. Fondation Maeght (Saint-Paul-de-Vence) ⛰️ A creative powerhouse of European bohemia. Set in a former 18th-century hospital building, it houses works by Joan Miró, Alexander Calder, Antoni Tàpies, and Yves Klein. This is your ideal evening combo: world-class contemporary art paired with one of the most cinematic sunset views over the valley. 3. Picasso Museum (Antibes) 🏰 Housed in the Château Grimaldi atop a cliff. Picasso only lived here for six months, but he gifted the city around 250 works. Make sure to head up to the terrace: it offers a classic view of Fort Carré (the exact landscape Cézanne painted). 4. Renoir Museum (Cagnes-sur-Mer) 🍋 The former home and studio of Auguste Renoir, nestled among lush citrus groves. The artist bought this villa while battling severe rheumatism and created his final, radiantly joyful masterpieces here. Inside, his wheelchair, easels, and brushes remain untouched—a space of incredible artistic sincerity. 5. Matisse Museum (Nice) 🟥 A charming 17th-century Genoese villa in the Cimiez neighborhood. You won't find the grandeur of the Louvre here—just the pure joy of color. The exhibition traces the master's entire journey: from his early academic portraits to the iconic cut-outs created by the artist after losing his sight in his later years. 🏛 Architecture, Design, and History 6. Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild (Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat) 💎 The whimsical palace of Baroness Rothschild. It's more of an encyclopedia of decorative arts: tapestries, rare porcelain, and 17th–18th-century furniture. But the real treasure is the nine themed gardens surrounding the villa. Arrive half an hour before the fountains turn on to enjoy their famous classical music show without the tourist crowds. 7. Fine Arts Museum Jules Chéret (Nice) 🖼️ Located in the former villa of Russian Princess Elizaveta Kochubey. The pearl of the collection is Édouard Manet's "A Corner of a Café-Concert", alongside an excellent lineup of Impressionists (Monet, Sisley, Dufy). It’s the perfect stop on your route if you're staying in Old Nice. 8. Asian Arts Museum (Nice) 🌀 This egg-shaped building by Japanese architect Kenzo Tange literally floats above the water. Inside is a minimalist collection of artifacts from China, India, and Southeast Asia. A sanctuary of absolute Zen right in the middle of bustling, noisy Nice. 9. Villa Arson National Centre for Contemporary Art (Nice) 🧱 An active art school and gallery showcasing stars on the level of Anish Kapoor. If you're hunting for non-touristy spots, this is it. Don't miss the rooftop terrace—it’s hands down the best free observation deck in the city. 10. Grimaldi Forum (Monaco) 👑 Technically the principality's convention center, but it's where the premier world-class classical and contemporary art exhibitions take place—hosting everyone from Raphael to Jeff Koons. Check their schedule before you go: catching a major temporary exhibition in the compact space of Monaco is a huge stroke of luck. 🚄 The Route: The easiest way to get around is linearly along the SNCF TER train line: Cannes → Antibes → Saint-Paul-de-Vence → Nice (Old Nice and the Cimiez neighborhood) → Monaco on a separate day. Transport: Skip the rental car for intercity trips—summer traffic jams along the coastal RN98 can eat up two hours of your art day. Trains run predictably and drop you right in the city centers. 💰 Savings: Planning to visit more than three state museums? Look into the French Riviera Pass (Nice and surroundings) or the Monaco Pass. They pay for themselves after your second or third visit and let you skip the lines. Also, check museum websites for free entry days. ⏰ Operating Hours: Many museums are closed on Mondays. Plan your visit to Villa Ephrussi for a weekday morning, otherwise you'll be standing in line under the scorching sun. 😊 Which museum in the South of France impressed you the most? Drop the name in the comments—let's build part two of the list together ✈️

A walking model course in the South of France ✨ One of the must-visit places on your trip to Nice is the Old Town (Vieux Nice) ✨ With its colorful buildings and narrow alleys, the Old Town is an area where you can soak up that authentic South of France vibe just by wandering around 😊 This time, I’ll introduce the food, souvenir shopping, and cafe hopping I actually enjoyed on my walk ♪ ⸻ 🌸 Starting with a Morning Stroll in the Old Town Walking through the Old Town in the morning, I found so many places with a lovely Southern French atmosphere ✨ What left a special impression was the morning market area, which originally used to be a flower market 🌸 It wasn't just flowers; there were souvenir stalls lined up too, making it an exciting space to just walk through 😊 Dried flowers like lavender and scented oils were also on sale, letting me enjoy the fragrances and ambiance typical of the South of France 🌿✨ ⸻ 🥙 Tasting the Nice Specialty "Socca" One thing I really wanted to eat during my Old Town stroll was the traditional Nice dish, "Socca" ✨ I visited the popular spot, Chez Thérésa. There was a short line when I went, and I waited about 20 minutes to buy it 😊 The freshly baked socca had such an unforgettable, savory aroma. It's a dish made with chickpea flour, but when I actually ate it, rather than a strong bean flavor, it had a natural onion-like sweetness, a savory roastiness, a chewy texture, and just the right amount of saltiness 🥙 It was simply delicious yet incredibly addictive—a local Nice treat that was totally worth the wait 🇫🇷✨ ⸻ 🫒 Searching for Authentic Southern French Souvenirs There were so many cute souvenir shops in the Old Town 😊 One place I stopped by was the historic olive oil specialty shop, Nicolas Alziari ✨ Lined with olive oil and other olive products typical of the South of France, it was the perfect place for souvenir hunting 🫒 Besides that, 🍋 Sweets made with lemons and citrus 🍋 Lemonade syrup 🍄 Gourmet ingredients like truffle paste There were many products rarely seen in Japan, so just looking at them was a lot of fun 😊 ⸻ 🍫 Head to PATISSERIE LAC for Sweets During my walk, I also discovered chocolate and pastry shops 🍫 PATISSERIE LAC - Nice Vieille Ville had a lineup of adorable sweets, making it highly recommended for souvenir shopping or a quick break ✨ ⸻ 👗 Highly Recommended for Thrift Lovers! Vintage Shop Hopping I also enjoyed hitting up some vintage clothing shops during my Old Town walk 😊 The ones I visited were: ・O’Chineur ・Caprice Vintage Shop Both had a great vibe. It was wonderful to not just see tourist spots, but to peek into local shops as I walked, giving me a feel for everyday life in Nice ✨ ⸻ ☕ Taking a Break at a Cafe When my feet got tired, I took a break at La Claque Coffee Shop ☕️ Taking the time to slowly soak in the city's atmosphere over a delicious cup of coffee became another lovely memory of my trip to Nice 😊 ⸻ 🍝 Dinner at Le Safari in the Evening To wrap up my Old Town stroll, I enjoyed a meal at Le Safari 🍷 I ordered an oil-based vongole pasta, a salad, and white wine. The vongole pasta was especially memorable ✨ The seasoning was simple, making it a dish where you could really taste the quality of the ingredients. The rich umami of the clams came through perfectly, and the clams themselves were absolutely delicious. It quickly became one of my favorite meals from the entire trip 😊 The cheese on the salad was also fantastic, and the whole meal really showcased high-quality ingredients. Paired with white wine, it was a wonderful time slowly enjoying the Nice evening 🇫🇷 ⸻ 💙 Old Nice is a Joy Just to Walk Around! ✔️ Enjoy the Southern French cityscape 🍋 ✔️ Taste the Nice specialty, socca 🥙 ✔️ Hunt for olive and lemon souvenirs 🫒 ✔️ Enjoy vintage shops and cafe hopping 👗☕ ✔️ Wrap it all up with delicious food and wine 🍷 Old Nice is a place where you can feel its charm even more not just by seeing the famous spots, but by walking down its alleys and popping into shops that catch your eye 🇫🇷✨ Definitely take your time and enjoy a leisurely stroll through the city 😊 Travel

I'm sharing a less obvious, yet convenient and inexpensive route from Milan to Nice. Buy tickets: Milan Centrale - Ventimiglia €33.50 (3 hours 57 minutes) •Transfer• Ventimiglia - Nice €10.20 (1 hour) Ventimiglia is a small town on the border of Italy and France. It has a very small train station, only 6 tracks, and life stops there at 7:00 PM. Be prepared! When purchasing tickets, you have the option of taking a 10-minute connection. And you'll definitely make it, really. But! It's better to take 29 minutes. You'll have peace of mind. The train may be delayed, or, as happened to us, the information board may not be working. 20 minutes is just enough time to run to each track and figure out which one is yours :)

🌊 "About Nice, first a complaint, then a heartfelt confession" Before coming, I thought the streets would be full of the glamorous scenes from movies, but actually— 1. [Cry] The promised sandy beach turned out to be a rocky beach! 🌚 So uncomfortable it made me question life. Without water shoes, you can’t gracefully step into the water. 2. [Sweat] The restaurants are pricey! Sea view restaurants are outrageously expensive, but the food is just average. 3. [Surprising] Thieves and homeless people do exist. It feels a bit uneasy near the train station at night. But! When the deep blue of Castle Hill hits your eyes, when the ocher walls of the old town alleys are dyed honey-colored by the sunset—the earlier complaints are unconditionally forgiven by the sunshine ☀️. · -- 🎨 Day 1: The original internet-famous spot—the clash of ocher and azure Morning: Get lost in the old town & find food at the market Dive into the narrow alleys of Vieux Nice, like a spilled palette with bright yellow, ocher red, and coral pink houses squeezed together. Head straight to Cours Saleya market, open Tuesday to Sunday mornings. Breakfast plan: Spend €3 on a freshly baked socca (chickpea pancake), crispy and fragrant! Grab a Pan Bagnat (Nice sandwich) for a picnic. Noon: Castle Hill hike & bird’s-eye view Navigate to the Castle Hill elevator (Ascenseur du Château), a lazy person’s blessing that takes you straight to the top 🛗. Overlook Baie des Anges, the sea blue like jelly, with red tile roofs spread beneath you—this is Nice’s “life photo” spot 📸. Afternoon: Relax on the seaside promenade Stroll or rent a bike (€1.5/30 minutes) along the Promenade des Anglais. Spot the iconic Nice blue chairs, flop down, watch the sea, people, and palm trees, and do nothing. Tip: The rocks are hard on your butt! If you didn’t bring a mat, rent a beach chair. Evening: Night walk at Place Masséna Place Masséna is magical at night! Black-and-white checkerboard ground, red buildings, the sun fountain, and seven glowing pillar statues. 🍽️ Dinner: Lou Balico (old town) A local-recommended hidden gem where you can try all the specialties on one Nice platter! 🥐 Dessert: Fenocchio ice cream, try the prickly pear or chestnut flavors. The shop at Rossetti Square in the old town is the most popular. · -- 🎭 Day 2: Art tour & Russian onion domes Morning: Matisse’s colorful celebration Visit the Musée Matisse to see how the Fauvist master was conquered by Nice’s sunshine. (Closed on Mondays!) Noon: Russian onion dome encounter Stop by the Saint Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral, the least French-looking building! Its magnificent onion domes instantly transport you to Moscow. Afternoon: Half-day escape to Villefranche-sur-Mer Take a bus or bike to Villefranche-sur-Mer, a quieter spot with colorful houses and a deep blue bay. Hike along the coastline at Cap Ferrat 🌊. 🍽️ Dinner: YOSE (Peruvian cuisine) Change things up! The grilled shrimp and squid are amazing. Remember to book in advance. ☕️ Afternoon tea: Bakery By Michel Fiori Matcha or pistachio croissants, filled generously, about €1.5–€2.5! · -- 🗺️ Day 3: Relax or spontaneous nearby trips Morning: Daydream on the hill or explore a small town Option A (lazy): Return to Castle Hill. The morning and evening light are completely different. The park has waterfalls and Roman ruins. Option B (active): Spend half a day in Eze village by bus or Uber (€20–30). A medieval eagle’s nest village with a hilltop cactus garden (€5, mint tea is a must!) overlooking the entire coast. Afternoon: Shopping spree Rush back to Av. Jean Médecin for shopping. Galeries Lafayette is small but well stocked. · -- 🏨 Where to stay? · Sea view lovers (€€€): Five-star hotels along the Promenade des Anglais, wake up to views of Baie des Anges 🌅. · Atmosphere seekers (€€): Stay in the old town, steps from food and alleys, about €800–1200/night. · Budget travelers (€): Near the train station, convenient transport but be cautious at night, about €500/night. · -- 🚌 Transportation tips · Airport to city: Tram 2 is the easiest, about 30 minutes. Money-saving hack: ride free to Grand Arénas station, then buy and top up your ticket! · Single ride: €1.7, free transfers within 74 minutes. Day pass (€7/day) allows unlimited bus and tram rides. · What not to do: Flash valuables near the train station, wander alleys late at night, go to the rocky beach without a mat, visit the market on Monday (closed!). · -- 💎 Final thoughts Nice’s beauty is the intensity in Matisse’s paintings, the sea breeze in Hemingway’s pages, and the thousand-year stories told at every corner. Take this guide and discover the French Riviera dream beyond imagination 💙

It totally lived up to my expectations. 🍋✨ Before my trip, Menton was the town I was most excited about visiting. The colourful facades. The beautiful waterfront. The mix of French and Italian influences. The photographs I’d seen online. And somehow, it was even prettier in person. What I loved most was the atmosphere. While places like Nice and Monaco feel energetic and lively, Menton felt slower, more relaxed and effortlessly charming. I spent my time wandering through the pastel-coloured streets, admiring the architecture, enjoying the sea views and simply soaking in the Mediterranean atmosphere. If you’re travelling along the Côte d’Azur, I’d recommend spending at least a day here. It’s easy to reach by train from Nice, but once you arrive you’ll probably wish you had longer. Perched high above the Mediterranean, Èze is one of those places that feels almost too pretty to be real. Think cobbled streets, stone houses covered in flowers and sweeping views over the French Riviera. If you're visiting the Côte d'Azur, I'd highly recommend spending at least half a day here. Wander through the medieval village, get lost in the tiny alleyways, visit the Exotic Garden and take your time soaking in the views. I visited as part of a road trip through the South of France and it quickly became one of my favourite stops. While places like Nice and Monaco often steal the spotlight, Èze offers a slower pace and some of the most spectacular scenery on the coast. 📍 Perfect as a half-day trip from Nice 🚌 Get a bus to Èze-Village 🚆 Reachable by train too , although be prepared for a climb from the station 🚗 Around 30 minutes by car Would you add Èze to your France itinerary? — Hi, I’m Genalda 🙋🏾♀️ your travel bestie sharing travel guides and tips to help you explore the world on a budget while working full-time!
