Cambodia’s Harrowing History, The Killing Fields Museum Tour
Cambodia has a very dark history and it’s something that’s vital to understand if you want to visit. I really recommend the killing field tour, it’s very traumatic but I think it’s an essential
Undertaking when trying to understand Cambodia
My tour was around £15 and was a fully guided English tour, you first go to the killing fields outside Phnom Penh then travel to the Tuol Sleng genocide museum.
Almost 3 million people were killed under the Khmer Rouge Regime between 1975 - 1979 and these museums are a fitting tribute to their memory. The museums are very well laid out and are informative and very objective.
🕰️Business Hours: Tours usually run from 8AM TO 4PM and last a few hours each. I’d advise an early one to avoid crowds and the heat!

National Museum of Cambodia 🇰🇭
If you’re heading to Phnom Penh and you want to see a glimpse of Cambodia’s history you need to check out the national museum. It’s really close to the palace so you can get both done in a morning of an afternoon.
It is $10 entry for foreigners, just tell them your home country (I didn’t need my passport but I know some people have been asked for it before, so take it just incase!)
The building itself is beautiful, a big building built around an open central courtyard.
The museum is quite basic with limited souvenirs, but there are plenty of shops and cafes in the surrounding areas.

Phnom Penh, Cambodia Night Market 📷 Discovering the street flavors in the city
The Phnom Penh Night Market in Cambodia is a highly popular tourist attraction, and here is an introduction to it:
• Location: The Phnom Penh Night Market is situated along the Tonle Sap River, between Street 102 and Street 106. It is an open-air market transformed from a park, with the original grass replaced by cement bricks, covering an area of about 2,000 square meters and surrounded by iron railings.
• Variety of goods: The market features numerous colorful stalls with uniform specifications, offering a wide range of products. These include clothing, shoes, hats, flowers, food, accessories, cosmetics, daily necessities, as well as numerous stone carvings, bamboo and wood products, and Khmer-style Buddha statues and other handicrafts, presenting a dazzling array.
• Gourmet food: Various delicacies are available here, such as barbecue, snacks, fruits, and cold drinks. Among them, the Pretty Girl Ice Cream, Skewer Siren, and Freshly Squeezed Sugarcane shops are highly recommended.
• Entertainment performances: There is also a large stage in the night market, where singers perform in the evening, allowing visitors to experience the cultural atmosphere of Cambodia.
• Street stall culture: Cambodians set up street stalls here, showcasing the local street stall economy. Tourists can experience authentic street stall culture at this venue.
• Specialty shops: There are some specialty shops in the night market, such as Skewer Siren, where the owner is attractive, and the skewers come with Cambodian-style dipping sauces; Pretty Girl Ice Cream, served in coconut shells, offers a silky and refreshing taste, perfect for cutting through the greasiness after a barbecue; Freshly Squeezed Sugarcane, with large and thick local sugarcane, provides a sweet and refreshing drink.
• Affordable prices: The dining prices at the Phnom Penh Night Market are low, and one can eat to their fill for just 50 RMB.
• Good public security: Police patrols can often be seen on the streets, ensuring a relatively safe environment.
In summary, the Phnom Penh Night Market is a vibrant and charming place where visitors can shop, taste delicious food, enjoy performances, and experience the culture and atmosphere of Cambodia. #TasteAuthenticFood #MonthlySpecialPlan

The Raffles Hotel Phnom Penh is truly magnificent! It is an opulent hotel that fans of luxury accommodations should not miss
Opened in 1929, the Royal Raffles Hotel Phnom Penh is nearly 100 years old. Today, I checked into the 140 square meter Landmark Suite. Its long history, elegant style, luxurious atmosphere, and unique aesthetic have made the Royal Raffles Hotel the leading luxury hotel in the Phnom Penh area for nearly a century!
For the foreseeable future, as well as the significant past, this hotel will always be one of the best in Cambodia's capital, Phnom Penh, not just because of the many advantages mentioned earlier. More so because it has a unique royal charm that attracts a high-end clientele, mainly from Europe and America, ensuring that the hotel can always maintain robust room rates!
This landmark building occupies an entire block next to the Phnom Penh railway station. To maintain the necessary privacy, the hotel is a separate courtyard with a very large flower bed at the entrance, which is very characteristic of Cambodian style. The entire suite's style is charming due to the mix of Khmer, Art Deco, and French architectural styles, which I think is also the most attractive aspect of this Raffles!
For dinner, I highly recommend the hotel's Le Royal restaurant. This restaurant emphasizes a sense of historical depth and local flavor, featuring modern French cuisine and royal Khmer dishes. Each dish is carefully crafted using Raffles' unique recipes and those from the Royal Palace of Phnom Penh, with excellent presentation and taste! After dinner, you can go to the hotel's Elephant Bar for a gin tasting journey! Choose your favorite gin, glass, soda water, fruit, or lemongrass. Gins from all over the world can be tasted here! It's a very special experience that you definitely shouldn't miss when visiting Raffles Phnom Penh! Additionally, the hotel's Le Phnom 1929 is also excellent! Named after the hotel's opening year, this French restaurant has a Parisian bistro style that is vibrant and appealing, with great offerings. The exquisite salmon tartare and the well-stewed beef are both fantastic!

💞Reasons to Recommend:
The grand dame of the Cambodian capital never ceases to sweep visitors away.
Located in a prestigious district, among embassies and the National Library, the hotel’s a study in heritage glamour: French colonial aesthetics meld with Khmer and Art Deco styles. It’s garnered a stellar array of visitors, from Jackie Kennedy to Charlie Chaplin; the hotel’s walls brim with black-and-white photographs that trace its 89-year-old history.

The Royal Palace of Phnom Penh in Cambodia bears witness to the history of the Khmer Kingdom
The Royal Palace of Phnom Penh in Cambodia is a complex of buildings with golden roofs and yellow walls, including more than 20 palaces such as the Throne Hall, the Golden Palace, the Silver Palace, the Dance Hall, and the Treasure Hall. Here are some of the sights worth seeing inside the Grand Palace:
• Silver Palace: Also known as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, the floor is paved with over 4,700 engraved silver tiles, and the main hall houses a Buddha statue carved from a single piece of jade, about 60 centimeters high, which is crystal clear and considered a national treasure of Cambodia.
• Golden Palace: Contains the Treasure Hall, where treasures are on display.
• Khemarin Palace: This is where the king receives foreign affairs and deals with court politics. Celebrations of national joy are usually held here, and it holds a very important status within the country.
• French-style Palace: Built by Napoleon III, it stands among a group of Khmer-style buildings without looking out of place, instead, it complements them interestingly and is full of charm.
• Corridor Murals: The murals in the corridors surrounding the Royal Palace were meticulously painted by 40 artists depicting Indian mythological stories.
• Antai Tree: Upon entering the main gate of the Royal Palace, one can see a tree that they have never seen before, which the guide introduces as the 'Antai Tree'.

I want to ask everyone why no one travels to Cambodia anymore?
Just came back from Phnom Penh, it feels like there are so few tourists, far less than the plane full of Chinese tourists when I went to Siem Reap a few years ago.
Do you still have interest in Cambodia?
In fact, Phnom Penh is much more prosperous than I imagined, apart from the higher prices, it doesn't seem as chaotic as rumored. Here's a Citywalk route in the city for your reference:
👣Wat Phnom - Central Market - Royal Palace of Phnom Penh - Mekong River
Except for the Grand Palace, there are no admission fees, which is very suitable for tourists to stroll around.
1️⃣ Central Market
Originally a French church, it was later turned into a market. The interior dome is very distinctive, and they sell everything, but just looking is fine, no need to buy.
2️⃣ Wat Phnom
A typical Southeast Asian temple, right in the city center, close to everything, not very big, just for a leisurely walk. If you have been to Angkor Wat, you will find Wat Phnom too ordinary.
3️⃣ Royal Palace of Phnom Penh
Probably the most worthwhile place to visit in the Phnom Penh city area.
Admission is 10 US dollars (really expensive).
The open part is not much, but the architecture is still exquisite, and there are few tourists. Feeding pigeons at the entrance is also nice. Pay attention to the dress code; tops should have sleeves, and bottoms should be below the knee.
4️⃣ The Mekong River is very suitable for walking, and there are quite a few people running in the morning. Watching the sunset is nice.
🏨 Hotel: Rosewood Phnom Penh
I just found out that there is a Rosewood in Phnom Penh, located on the top floor inside the Vattanac Capital Tower, boasting all the high-altitude scenery of Phnom Penh, with the entire cityscape and the world-famous Mekong River in view. The hotel is in an excellent location, close to all major attractions.
☑️ It blends modern and traditional styles, with both old money vibe and artistic sense.
☑️ The dining options are rich and varied. I tried the Brasserie Louis restaurant on the 35th floor and the dazzling Chinese restaurant on B1 for everyone. I love the Hong Kong-style roast meats and pig's trotter noodles, saying it's the best Chinese food in Phnom Penh is not an overstatement.
☑️ You must go to the sky bar on the 37th floor for a drink! The cantilevered terrace is really amazing, with the sunset and city night view in full view.
☑️ The hotel has its own tuk-tuk, no need to be cheated by roadside tuk-tuks anymore.
PS: Be sure to negotiate the price before getting on a roadside tuk-tuk; I think the security is okay, but it's still better not to go out alone at night; take good care of your belongings, if you have a camera, try to hang it around your neck.

The Royal Palace of Cambodia.
During my visit to the Royal Palace of Cambodia, I found myself in front of a cultural and historical landmark that forms the heart of the capital, Phnom Penh. I entered the palace and wandered through the luxurious corridors adorned with exquisite artistic details, and saw the official halls and galleries filled with many valuable art pieces and diplomatic gifts. I enjoyed the beauty of the gardens surrounding the palace, reflecting the traditional culture and art of Cambodia. Visiting the Royal Palace was a special and fascinating experience because it left me with a sense of luxury, history, and appreciation for Cambodia's cultural heritage.

កន្លែងចាស់ Pub 🍻🧆🥘
A famous pub among the Middle Ages , lacated in the center of Phnom Penh city.
The taste of foods here are nice , but some menu is a little bit sweet. There is Live Ban music, also DJ performance every days here. There are both indoor and outdoor seats available. The service is acceptable and the price is reasonable. I can say it’s cheaper that some other pub inside the city. Yet less parking lots are available. If you reach there by motorcycle 🏍️ is ok.
This pub is opened from 15:00 pm untill 1:00 pm. There’s happy hours (early bird) promotions on beers.

👍Highly recommended:
Raffles Hotel Le Royal Average price 1600-2200, the Royal Raffles Hotel in Phnom Penh, which opened in 1929, is nearly 100 years old~ The hotel was renovated in 2020. Its long history, elegant style, luxurious atmosphere, and unique aesthetic have made the Royal Raffles Hotel the leading luxury hotel in the Phnom Penh area for nearly a century! In the not-so-distant past and the foreseeable future, this hotel will always be one of the best in Cambodia's capital, Phnom Penh, not just because of the many advantages mentioned earlier~ but also because it has a unique royal temperament that attracts a high-end clientele, mainly from Europe and America. This landmark building occupies an entire block next to the Phnom Penh railway station~ To maintain the necessary privacy, the hotel is a separate courtyard, with a very large flower bed at the entrance, very much in the Cambodian style. The entire suite's style is charming due to the mix of Khmer style, Art Deco, and French architectural style, which I think is also the most attractive part of this Raffles!
👍Highly recommended:
Rosewood Phnom Penh Average price 2100-3900, the hotel that opened in 2018, has impeccable hardware and software services! Located inside the Vattanac Capital Tower, Phnom Penh's tallest building, the Rosewood Phnom Penh offers corner suites with panoramic views of the cityscape and the world-famous Mekong River~ The room design incorporates Khmer architectural style, Cambodian traditional crafts, and elements from the French management period in every detail, while still maintaining Rosewood's consistent elegance and luxury. The hotel's art display section is also an indispensable part of Rosewood. Diptyque has invited numerous Cambodian and international artists to participate. Combining Khmer tradition with local Cambodian culture, they have created modern artworks~ This series of distinctively styled artworks located within the tallest building of the Kingdom of Cambodia not only inherits the craftsmanship of traditional handicrafts but also sparks modern technology. The iconic water buffalo in the guest rooms, created by American artist Daniel McClendon, symbolizes the hard work of Cambodian farmers and the roots of agriculture~ The Rosewood Phnom Penh, with its interior design and art design, perfectly integrates local history, culture, and geographical features~ It has become a must-stay hotel when visiting Phnom Penh!
👍Highly recommended:
Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh Average price 1100-1800, a new hotel that opened in 2021~ Everything is great! The Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh has an excellent location! Right opposite the hotel are the National Museum and the Royal Palace of Phnom Penh~ From the guest rooms, you can clearly see all this! It's only a two-minute walk to the Mekong River, and those famous riverside restaurants and bars are almost within reach! This Hyatt hotel combines a newly built high-rise with a very eye-catching historical building, and while preserving and restoring the old building on the original site, the newly constructed hotel completely breaks my traditional impression of the Hyatt brand~ The executive suite I stayed in has a modern-style work area, contemporary Khmer design elements, and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking vibrant Phnom Penh, right across from the hotel's rooftop pool, offering a superb view! The public area of the Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh features a French-style atrium with a naturally lit roof, seamlessly blending Khmer architectural decor, French influence, and contemporary Cambodian artworks, making the Hyatt Regency a business hotel with a strong holiday vibe~ The rooftop restaurant and bar of the hotel are fantastic! Enjoying the sunset while sipping a cocktail, you can also see the night view of the Royal Palace of Phnom Penh and the modern city, which is really great!

Echoes of Sorrow 🪦
My visit to Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum in Phnom Penh was an eye-opening yet haunting and emotionally charged journey into Cambodia's darkest chapter. To get the most out of the the museum, we hired a guide, who had experienced Pol Pot's oppresive regime herself, to bring us through the exhibits and retell her harrowing experience. Being able to hear from the horse's mouth, it was worth every penny and would recommend all visitors to get one (for big groups) or get the audio guide (for individuals/ small groups).
Stepping through the gates of the former high school turned prison, the weight of history settled heavily upon me. Each cell whispered the anguish of the thousands who suffered within its walls under the Khmer Rouge regime. Photographs of the victims lined the corridors, their eyes hauntingly staring back, a silent testament to the atrocities committed. The museum's exhibits laid bare the grim reality of torture and mass executions that stained this place.
It was a sobering reminder of humanity's capacity for cruelty and the importance of remembering the past to ensure such horrors are never repeated. Leaving Tuol Sleng, I carried with me not just the images and stories of the victims, but also a profound sense of responsibility to honor their memory by striving for a better, more compassionate world.

I can feel Hong Kong's vibrant culture, stunning skyline, and delicious cuisine calling my name! Can't wait to explore the streets of Mong Kok, hike the Dragon's Back Trail, and get my dim sum fix at Tim Ho Wan. Looking forward to a holiday in Hong Kong!

Life along the Tongle Sap ⛴️🍢🪁
Rivers have always brought along with it bustling commercial activities around the world (think Mekong River Delta, River Thames, Ganges River). Sisowath Riverside Park, located along the banks of the Tonle Sap River just before it meets with the Mekong River, is no different.
Walking along Sisowath Riverside Park in Phnom Penh was a vibrant immersion into the heartbeat of Cambodian life. The bustling promenade teemed with activity as locals went about their daily routines - recreational fishermen casted their lines into the Tonle Sap River, families picnicked on the grass patches, kids played happily on the banks of the river, food vendors lined the pathway with their aromatic offerings and ferries ferried the everyday man across the banks during the evening rush hour. All these sights, sounds and smells really invigorated my senses. It was really as local as it could get in Phnom Penh.
Amidst this backdrop, the city's modern buildings and heavy traffic also contrasted with the palace grounds and temples nearby, a testament to Cambodia's dynamic blend of past and present and also perhaps an optimistic sign of a country on the rise.

I want to visit Hong Kong as it is truly a paradise for food lovers like me! I'm drooling just thinking about devouring dim sum at Tim Ho Wan, slurping noodles at Mak's Noodle, and feasting on roast goose at Yat Lok. Can't wait!

When in Cambodia, Silver Pagoda for the shot📸
The Silver Pagoda, nestled in the Royal Palace grounds in Phnom Penh, is a must-visit for its striking exterior alone. This architectural marvel boasts intricately carved details on its walls and structures, showcasing the rich craftsmanship of Cambodia.
Each carving tells a story, reflecting the country's cultural and spiritual depth. The pagoda's serene setting, combined with its detailed facade, offers a picturesque backdrop perfect for those memorable photos. As you walk around, the play of light on the ornate designs makes every angle a discovery.
Definitely visiting the Silver Pagoda isn't just about seeing another landmark; it's about experiencing a piece of Cambodian heritage that stands proud and beautiful, inviting visitors to pause and appreciate the artistry that has been preserved through the ages.

Royal Palace
#thingstodo
Entrance fee included the Silver Pagoda. Be prepared to spend around an hour or so to visit the both. Dress sensibly with shirt covering the shoulders. There was a noon break when visits were not allowed. The Palace reopened at 2pm.
The Throne Hall is the main building of the Royal Palace built in 1863 and it’s still used for religious and royal ceremonies. Unfortunately, photos are not allowed.
One of the biggest tourist attractions in Phnom Penh, and it’s very popular!
It’s a huge site with many beautiful buildings to visit and view, and the gardens are manicured. The detail inside and outside the various buildings are stunning.
Remember to cover your shoulders and knees when visiting, even if you’re just visiting the gardens.
And no photography allowed inside.
Ticket price was a little high at $10 per person but it was a nice place to visit for the day. I would suggest adding this to your Phnom Penh itinerary. The silver pagoda area is the highlight in my opinion.
Masks are required to enter and you should also dress modestly with shorts below the knee and no shoulders showing. The palace closes in the middle of the day It’s open 08:00-11:00 and 14:00-1700 daily
Around the Palace ground, there are quite a few stunning architectures displaying the typical Cambodian rooftops and design.

Phnom penh is a great city.
There are many places you can visit, such as the temple, the Royal Palace, the river bank, the beaches and many shopping mall.
For transport, you can use tuk tuk to travel around the city easily.
The places that I visited are :
1. Royal palace - Beautiful & interesting place to visit if you are in the city.
2. Russian market - Can find great bargain and they sell almost everything.
3. Full body massage from well trained blind people for USD8
4. Wat Phnom - A very old temple & legend said that this was the birth of the city
5. Serendipity Beach - It's a party spot for the local
Overall it is a nice city. Take a walk around and you can see bizarre stuff that you dont normally see.
Just enjoy the amazing experience in the city.

Best Hotel in Phnom Penh
This is one of the best hotels I stayed in my life! The staff are so warm and welcoming and friendly. No matter what time of the day I come back to the hotel the staff will always greet me with a smile and attend to my needs efficiently and professionally. I really enjoyed my stay here and the rooms are cosy and comfortable too.
The rooftop bar is gorgeous and very vibey, with great sunset views and great drinks too. They also have a pool and a gym (opens 24 hours)! I love the location too as it is very central! Can’t wait to go back!

All around Phnom Penh Cambodia 🇰🇭
We did a DIY tour in Phnom Penh, went around the city by tuk-tuk and it was just an incredible experience. We went to different tourist spots around the city and the tuk-tuk driver was very friendly.
When we stopped at a certain place, he also told us some historical facts about the place and showed us the best place to take pictures.
If you come to Cambodia, you should also check out Phnom Penh.

Indiana Jones with a Smartphone - Cambodia
My trip to Cambodia was like a whirlwind romance with history, culture, and tuk-tuks. The bustling markets of Phnom Penh, I felt like Indiana Jones with a smartphone instead of a whip.
The food? Let's just say my taste buds did the happy dance with every bite of amok. And the locals? They're the friendliest bunch this side of the Mekong River.
But beware, crossing the street in Cambodia is like a real-life game of Frogger. Those traffic-packed streets are not for the faint-hearted.
In the end, my holiday in Cambodia was a mix of temple-hopping adventures, culinary escapades, and adrenaline-pumping road crossings. I might have left a piece of my heart in Angkor Wat, but I also left with a suitcase full of unforgettable memories. Cambodia, you've won me over!

Phnom Penh Royal Palace
Phnom Penh Royal Palace
The most revered image at the Phnom Penh Royal Palace is the Emerald Buddha, made of Baccarat crystal and dating back to the 17th century. Behind it, another Buddha statue was cast in 1906, using 90 kg of gold and decorated with 9,584 diamonds. Cabinets along the perimeter contain gifts presented to royalty and dignitaries. Along the inside of the recently restored 600-metre external wall is a colourful mural depicting scenes from the Reamker, the Khmer version of the Ramayana.
