Weihai, Shandong - Blue Whale Shipwreck | A Stranded Ship and Decadent Romanticism
As one of the most popular attractions in Weihai, the Blue Whale Shipwreck is a must-see. The shipwreck, seagulls, and the blue sea create a sense of destiny. To the west of the Blue Whale Shipwreck is the Xiaowudui Baohai Post Station, which is also worth a visit. The seaweed houses there are beautiful and unique, and admission is free. Photography enthusiasts should not miss this spot.
📸Photo Spots:
●The shipwreck itself is a great subject for photography. You can stand at a distance and take a photo of the entire shipwreck with the sea as the background. It will look like a scene from a movie.
●When the tide rises and the sea covers part of the shipwreck, the half-hidden, half-visible effect is very dreamy. This is the perfect time to take photos.
●The rocks around the shipwreck are also great elements for photography. Stand on the rocks and take a photo with the shipwreck and the sea as the background. The photo will have a great sense of depth.
👗Outfit Suggestions:
●For a cool and stylish look, wear a black or army green trench coat, cargo pants, and Martin boots.
●For a fresh and clean look, a white dress or blue clothing is a great choice. The colors will complement the sea.
💡Tips:
●The wind is strong by the sea, so bring a jacket to stay warm and stylish.
●Be careful during your visit, especially when walking on the rocks, to avoid slipping and getting injured.
📍Location: Rongcheng, Weihai, Shandong
🚗Transportation:
●Driving: This is the most convenient way to get there. You can navigate directly to the Blue Whale Shipwreck. Driving along the coastal road is an enjoyable experience, with stunning sea views.
●Public Transportation: If you choose public transportation, you can first go to Rongcheng City, and then take a taxi or a local minibus to the shipwreck. However, you may need to transfer, which can be inconvenient.

Weihai, Shandong.
Southern travelers, come and see the northern sea in Yantai and Weihai, Shandong.
I have a good impression of Yantai Mountain in Fuzhou, so I wanted to see what the original Yantai Mountain looks like. I flew to Yantai in October, the off-season, and spent three and a half days there at a leisurely pace. It was a comfortable trip. I heard that after the National Day holiday, Yantai and Weihai enter the off-season, and indeed, there were not many people wherever I went. The temperature was around 20°C, which was very comfortable.
I rented a car and drove myself after landing at Yantai Penglai International Airport, which was relatively convenient.
Day 1: Evening - Fisherman's Wharf + Suochengli
Day 2: Morning - Yantai Mountain + Chaoyang Street (recommended)
Day 2: Afternoon - Weihai Rongcheng Blue Whale Shipwreck + Naxianghai Scenic Area
Day 2: Evening - Weihai Xinwei Road
Day 3: Liugong Island + Weihai Retired Destroyer + Hanlefang + Weihai Park Photo Frame + Happiness Gate + Qixia Street
Day 4: Haiyuan Park, World War I Chinese Laborers Memorial Hall + Maotou Mountain (recommended) + Yuanyao Wharf + Weihai Park + Jinhaiwan Bridge + International Bathing Beach + Torch 8th Street + Sea Fortress (all on the same line, very convenient for self-driving, each point is within 10 minutes by car, you can visit them all in one go)
Food: Mainly Shandong cuisine and Korean food.

Weihai in November! The stranded Brewis is quiet and mysterious.
It’s the off-season for tourism in Weihai in November
The stranded Brewis is quiet and mysterious!
It is like a tired but majestic warrior,
Lie quietly between the beach and waves.
Navigate to the site where the Blueweis ran aground.
The best time to visit is at low tide.
Can get closer.
Walk towards it from the shore,
Along the way you can enjoy beautiful views of the sea and beaches.
It's a great place to watch the sunset.
The afterglow shines on the boat, like a dream.
It’s perfect for lying flat on your back!

What you can see is stranded, what you can't see is the past.
Beautiful bay! The sea view of Shandong Bruevis is absolutely beautiful, it's simply intoxicating! The key is that there is a stranded ship on the beach here, it's too cool!
This is Lingshan Bay in Qingdao West Coast New District, which is very close to the city and can be reached by car in half an hour. Here is backed by a group of peaks, facing the blue waves, both the exquisite elegance of the Jiangnan Garden and the majestic sea.
And on this beach, there is a huge ship, which should be the most attractive place in the whole scenic area! This giant ship was originally a means of transportation on the ocean, but now it is stranded on the soft beach and has become a good place for people to relax and entertain.
You can take photos on the deck, play in the cabin, lie on the beach chair for a while, or stroll on this golden beach, watch seagulls soar, listen to the waves whisper, and feel the comfort and comfort of the sea breeze.
There are also many fun and interesting projects to experience here! Friends who like water sports must not miss it, bring your family and friends to enjoy this tranquility!
By the way, this is also a great place to take wedding photos! Under the blue sky and white clouds, on the beach, the romantic European castle, a casual shot is a big picture, I believe no girl can refuse such a dreamy place?
In addition, if you want to come to the beach to catch seafood, then I will tell you a good news, just opposite this Bruevis Bay, there is a super famous place to catch seafood-Zhaitang Island, where not only the seafood is rich in variety, but also the quantity is very large, so hurry up and share this treasure with your friends!

The ship may be stranded, but life goes on. Blueways.
📍Address: Search for "SS Ayrfield" in your navigation app
🚗Transportation: The site is far from the city (40 km) and there is no public transportation or subway. A taxi ride costs about AUD 80. It is recommended to rent a car. Car rental is very convenient in the city, and parking lots and hotels generally have charging stations.
🎟️Tickets: Free
💗Other tips: There are professional photographers on the beach who provide props (Corona beer, roses, sunglasses). It is recommended to compare several before making a decision, as their skills and prices vary.

This is the beauty of Weihai
I thought Qingdao was already beautiful until I went to Weihai... The seaside in summer feels like a grand romantic movie,
The road leading to the sea,
Romantic sunsets and evening glow,
Stranded giant ships and seagulls,
Little yellow flowers blooming by the sea,
Seaside roads like those in idol dramas,
Weihai fulfills all fantasies of seeing the sea!

📸 Check-in route:
Day1️⃣: Torch Eight Street - Xiaoshi Island - Beishan Road - Haiyuan Park - International Seawater Bathing Beach
Day2️⃣: Huanhai Road - Maotou Mountain - Jinshi Bay - Naxianghai - Blueways
.
【Torch Eight Street】
A landmark street in Weihai, with colorful houses, the road ends at the sea, known as "Little Kamakura." However, there are many people checking in here every day, so it's recommended to go early in the morning.
【Haiyuan Park】
Hundreds of fishing boats anchored on the sea, the clear blue glass sea, like a movie scene. The beach, fishing boats, reefs, boardwalks, and buildings are rich in elements, making every shot beautiful.
【Beishan Road】
A road leading to the sea, overlooking a lonely island, as if extending romance and freedom.
【Huanhai Road】
The section near Maotou Mountain is very beautiful, often with motorcyclists passing by, like a scene from a Taiwanese idol drama.
【Naxianghai】
You must visit Naxianghai when you come to Weihai. The orange sea at sunset, the windmills spinning in the distance, people watching the sunset on the golden beach, dancing with seagulls at sunset, and if you encounter the evening glow, the atmosphere is perfect!
【Blueways】
A giant ship stranded at sea—BLUEWAYS, the closer you get, the lonelier it feels. From a distance, it looks like a century-old movie.
【International Seawater Bathing Beach】
A natural seawater bathing beach, also the best spot to watch sunsets and evening glow. It's in the urban area of Weihai, so there are many people and many sea activities.
-
🌅
The afterglow of the sunset is the gentlest moment of nature. People watching the sunset together, children playing on the beach, dogs watching over, couples in the distance under the starlight, the backlight adds a soft filter to this scene. Watching the sunset slowly descend, pressing the shutter, capturing these healing and warm moments, making the photos witnesses of this splendid moment.

Weihai Must-Visit: The Internet-famous 'Blue Whale' that can't return home
📍Attraction Address: The stranded Blue Whale cruise ship is located on the Qianli Mountain and Sea Self-driving Highway in Weihai. You can accurately search for its location using navigation, and there is a beach parking lot.
🚗Attraction Transportation: It is generally recommended to drive to this attraction. Electric scooters are not recommended as their battery may not last for a round trip. It takes about an hour from Weihai city center. Visitors often combine this trip with a visit to Shendiao Mountain Zoo or Naxiang Sea Scenic Area as they are on the way.
👍️Must-Visit Attractions:
You can take a speedboat or banana boat to get a close view of the ship;
You can also walk along the coastline to find the best angles for photographing the ship. For portrait shots, walk about 300 meters east from the parking lot.
🎟️Ticket Information: Free attraction
💗Other Tips: In September 2022, due to the peripheral circulation of Typhoon 'Nanmadol,' the Panamanian cargo ship 'Blue Whale' intruded into the Haoyunjiao Tourist Resort area in Rongcheng City, Weihai, and got stranded, making it its 'home'—the crew was rescued, but the ship stayed due to high towing costs.
Because of its 'harmonious' location, it unexpectedly became an internet sensation, looking photogenic from morning to evening

Weihai‖Bruce Bay A Story of a Shipwreck
📍A Story of a Shipwreck:
Although Bruce Bay is not an official scenic spot, it has become very popular online 🛳️ Historical Imprint The Secret of the Weihai Bruce Shipwreck, which once carried goods and hopes, now quietly sleeps on the coast. This large cargo ship tells the story of time in the embrace of the ocean 📖. It has traversed rocks and waves 🌊, much like the twists and turns of life 💔. Despite the harsh surroundings, it continued to move forward with determination, showcasing its tenacious vitality 💪. The shadow of the crane records every detail on the ship, whether transporting goods or personnel, carrying an important mission. Fatigue and fragility have left marks on this shipwreck, but its spirit never fades. Every voyage is an exploration and challenge of the unknown, as well as a reverence and cherishing of life.
【Guide】
📍Detailed Address:
Not in Weihai city, but in Chengshan Town, Rongcheng City, under the jurisdiction of Weihai. If driving, you can navigate to "Bruce Shipwreck Scenic Area," which is about 50 minutes from the city. There is an international tourism area called Naxianghai nearby, and it takes only 10 minutes to drive from there. You can park on the roadside for free and walk a few minutes to the beach.
🕙Opening Hours: Free attraction, open 24 hours, but very crowded. It is beautiful during the day or at dusk with blue tones. The snow scene in winter is also impressive.
📷 Bruce Shipwreck Photography Tips
There are many people, so try to choose the morning or noon when the sun is bright and there are fewer people. Of course, shooting at dusk (before and after sunset) can achieve dreamy color effects.
Wear contrasting colors with the shipwreck, such as a black and white coat with a bright scarf to increase visual impact.
Try different angles for shooting. The west beach can capture the full side of the ship, both long shots and close-ups. Walking east, you will see many paid photography areas with many seagulls. You can take photos without spending money. If you want some background props like chairs or tables or want to take wedding photos, there are professional photographers available. Enjoy the pleasure of summer retreat by walking on the beach in Weihai Bluewise!
Bluewise is a Panamanian cargo ship that ran aground in the waters of Weihai, China, on September 19, 20022. Due to the repair and rescue costs far exceeding the value of the ship itself, it was abandoned and has remained in the sea around Weihai to Xixiakou direction. Unexpectedly, after a year of settling, it has become a popular spot for internet celebrities in Weihai, attracting many post-95s and post-00s young people to check in. Although the Bluewise shipwreck itself is not very impressive, the beach where it is located is very beautiful, and the summer sea breeze is very comfortable. It is a great place to walk and enjoy the breeze, making it a nice summer vacation spot!
1. Scenic spot ticket: Currently, the Bluewise shipwreck and the beach are open to the public for free. With the development of commerce, it may become a paid scenic spot in the future, so go check in early.
2. Highlights of the visit: The huge cargo ship and the flocks of seagulls form a super beautiful seascape, the delicate and soft sand is very comfortable, and the sea breeze reduces the heat and unease of the entire summer.
3. Duration of visit: The Bluewise shipwreck and the beach cover a large area, extending more than 3 kilometers from east to west. It is recommended to visit for about 2 hours.
4. Transportation: The best way to travel is still by self-driving or taxi. There is no parking lot around the Bluewise shipwreck, but you can temporarily park on the side of the road. Of course, when there are many cars, it may not be possible to park, so taking a taxi might be more convenient. There are intercity buses and tourist sightseeing buses in Weihai city that can reach near the scenic area.
5. Surrounding scenic spots: Nearby there are Bluewise Fishing Center, Naxianghai Scenic Area, Lavender Manor, Jiaodong Fishing Village at the river mouth, Jinshiwanyi Art District, Shendiao Mountain Zoo, Sea Donkey Island, Jiming Island, and Chengshantou, etc.
6. Food and accommodation: There are no restaurants with accommodation near the Bluewise shipwreck, only temporary snack stalls to choose from. However, you can choose to stay in Xixiakou, which solves the problem of food and accommodation.
7. Precautions: In addition to UV protection, pay attention to some microorganisms on the beach, in the grass, and in the woods in Weihai in summer. They may not cause problems at the time of attack, but a few hours later they can cause itching all over the body and even trigger eczema. Carry anti-insect medicines and skincare products in advance.

Weihai | The Story of a Shipwreck | Blue Ways
Crossing over a thousand kilometers, I finally arrived in Weihai to see this stranded ship, named Blue Ways.
Although it is not an official tourist spot, it has already become popular all over the internet. This coastal shipwreck was originally a Panama-registered empty bulk carrier. In September 2022, it ran aground in Weihai due to the impact of a typhoon. Because of its hull shape, distance from the shore, and tilt angle, it is very suitable for viewing. Therefore, since the spring of 2023, it has become one of the most popular 'photo spots.' It is understandable that people are tired of conventional man-made attractions, making such accidental spots especially rare.
⛰【Tourist Guide】
📍Detailed Address: Not in Weihai city, but in Chengshan Town, Rongcheng City, under the jurisdiction of Weihai. If you drive, you can navigate to 'Blue Ways Shipwreck Scenic Area.' It takes about 50 minutes to drive from the city. There is an international tourist area called Naxianghai nearby, and it only takes 10 minutes to drive from there. You can park your car by the roadside, and no one charges for parking. It takes a few minutes to walk to the seaside.
🕙Opening Hours: Free attraction, open 24 hours. However, there are many people, and it is very beautiful during the day or at the blue hour in the evening. The snow scene in winter is also amazing.
📷 Blue Ways Photography Tips
👉There are many people, so try to choose the morning or noon when the sun is bright, and there are relatively fewer people. Of course, shooting at the blue hour (before and after sunset) can achieve a dreamy color effect.
👉Wear clothes that contrast with the color of the shipwreck. A black and white coat paired with a bright scarf can increase visual impact.
👉You can try shooting from different angles. The west beach can capture the entire side of the ship, and both long shots and telephoto shots are possible. Walking a bit east, you will see many paid photographer areas with many seagulls. You can also take photos without spending money. If you want some background props, such as chairs or tables, or want to take wedding photos, there are professional photographers here. Generally, it costs 10 yuan per photo.
👉Besides the shipwreck, interacting with seagulls also makes for great photos, just like the seagulls in Dianchi. If you capture natural and vivid moments, combined with the ship on the sea, whether it is a video or a photo, it will be a high-quality emotional piece.
📝Attention Tips:
👉Environmental Issues: With the increase in tourists, some environmental problems have also arisen, such as littering, which has a certain impact on the marine environment. It is recommended to charge a small fee and arrange for someone to clean up the garbage.
👉It is heard that the local government plans to carry out overall planning for the surrounding area, including the construction of new parking lots, homestays, cafes, public toilets, and other infrastructure. Imagine if there was a room where you could see the Blue Ways ship by opening the window, it would definitely become popular worldwide.

Weihai | Feels like the end of the world | The Blue Ways
Despite the beautiful seascape of Weihai, the hottest spot on the internet is a stranded shipwreck called Blue Ways. It was originally a Panamanian bulk carrier with no cargo. In September 2022, affected by the peripheral circulation of Typhoon 'Nanmadol', the Blue Ways ran aground near Chengshan Town in Weihai. After stranding, due to its hull shape, distance from shore, and inclination angle, it became very suitable for viewing. Since the spring of 2023, the Blue Ways has started to attract tourists from all over the country to check in, becoming one of the hottest 'photo spots' of the moment.
⛰【Travel Tips】
📍Detailed address: Not in Weihai city center, but in Chengshan Town, Rongcheng City below Weihai. If driving, you can navigate to 'Blue Ways Shipwreck Scenic Area', about 50 minutes from the city center. There is a Naxianghai International Tourism Area nearby, only 10 minutes away from there. Park on the roadside, no charge, just walk towards the sea.
🕙Opening hours: The spot is free and open 24 hours. However, it's very crowded. To get there early, I stayed at the nearby Haosheng Resort Hotel, which is only three to four hundred yuan per day.
📷 Blue Ways Photo Shooting Tutorial
👉It's very crowded, try to choose morning or noon when the sunlight is bright, to better capture the details and texture of the ship. Of course, shooting during the blue hour (around sunset) can yield dreamy color effects. It's also crowded then, so you need to find the right angle.
👉Wear clothes that contrast with the shipwreck's tones, such as a black and white coat with a bright scarf, to add visual impact.
👉Try shooting from different angles. From the west beach, you can capture the full side of the ship, both wide shots and telephoto. Walk east a bit, and you'll see many photographers who charge a fee. There are many seagulls here, and you can take pictures without paying. If you want some background, like chairs and tables, or to take a wedding photo, there are professional photographers available. Usually, it's 10 yuan per photo.
👉Besides the shipwreck being very distinctive, interacting with the seagulls is also a popular reason. Be sure to capture natural and lively moments, paired with the ship on the sea, whether it's a video or a photo, any shot is a high-quality emotional blockbuster.
📝Note tips:
👉Environmental issues: With the increase of tourists, some environmental problems have arisen, such as littering, which has some impact on the marine environment. It is suggested to charge a small fee and arrange for someone to clean up the trash.
👉I heard that there are local plans to comprehensively plan the area around the Blue Ways, including building new parking lots, guesthouses, cafes, public toilets, and other infrastructure. One can imagine, if there's a room with a view of the Blue Ways right out the window, it would become famous all over the world.

Visited the fragrant sea and Brewis in Weihai
On the first day in Weihai, I went to the fragrant sea and Brewis beach in Rongcheng City. It was a bit far to drive, so I chose to take the high-speed train to Weihai Station and hitch a ride to the scenic spot. (Both Weihai Station and Rongcheng Station are quite far from the fragrant sea and Brewis, so you need to take a taxi. Weihai North Station is closer to Torch Eight Street and the International Bathing Beach).
The sea in Weihai is indeed quite clean, but due to its rising popularity in recent years, there are more and more people at the beach, and commercialization is somewhat affecting the experience. I remind everyone to be mindful of protecting the environment when traveling
I planned a three-day itinerary, made some travel guides, booked round-trip high-speed train tickets and two nights at hotels (the places to visit were in different districts, so I booked different hotels), and even roughly planned the taxi travel time and cost or walking and cycling time between stations or scenic spots. But in the evening, I checked the weather forecast on my phone and saw rain , which made me worry about it affecting my sightseeing and photography. I consulted local netizens and read online that Weihai's weather is not always accurate, and since it was too much trouble to reschedule, I decided to take a chance. The weather was still good when I arrived in Weihai at two in the afternoon, and for the half-day itinerary, I took a taxi from Weihai Station to the fragrant sea. The ride-share driver mentioned that there was a heavy rain in the morning. I spent less than two hours at the fragrant sea and then took a taxi to Brewis beach, where I played until the evening, watched a beach music festival and fireworks, and then returned to the nearby hotel I had booked, where they even upgraded my room. 😆 I travel to wander and take photos, and I'm not very demanding about food and accommodation. This is it for now; there's still the second day's itinerary to come.
