A magical and charming city
Chongqing, a magical and charming city.
It is like a three-dimensional painting, slowly unfolding between the mountains and rivers. The Jialing River and the Yangtze River converge here, and the rushing waters endow the city with endless vitality.
Hongya Cave, with its layers of stilted buildings, is brilliantly lit at night, as if one has traveled to the fantastical world of Spirited Away. The warm yellow lights reflect on the river, creating a dreamlike scene.
Jiefangbei, the landmark building of Chongqing, has witnessed the city's changes and development. Surrounding it are bustling commercial streets, filled with the atmosphere of a modern metropolis.
The winding paths of the mountain city offer a unique charm as you stroll through them. On one side are ancient buildings, and on the other, the diverse aspects of everyday life.
From the top of Nanshan, you can overlook the entire city of Chongqing. The neatly arranged skyscrapers, the ceaseless flow of traffic, and the night scene adorned with lights are all mesmerizing.
Ciqikou Ancient Town, with its bluestone roads bearing the marks of time, and its quaint shops emitting bursts of fragrance, makes one feel as if they have traveled back in time.
Chongqing's transportation is also a unique sight. The cableways crossing the rivers and the light rail weaving between buildings offer novel and exciting experiences.
And then there is the spicy and flavorful hotpot, with its smoky aroma permeating the streets and alleys, allowing everyone who comes to Chongqing to feel the city's warmth and generosity.
Chongqing has both the agility of mountains and rivers and the prosperity of a metropolis; it has the sediment of history and the vitality of modernity. It is a place full of charm and surprises, waiting for you to discover its every wonder. Let's step into Chongqing, appreciate the unique scenery of this mountain city, and feel its heat and passion. Chongqing always exudes its unique allure.

Ciqikou Food street Chongqing 🇨🇳
The busiest and most crowded area of Chongqing is most probably Ciqikou. To be honest it's with good reason.
The smells of the food are so good my wife way to loudly shouted that "My mouth is literally watering" . A little embarrassing maybe, but the good is great.
Spicy snacks, hotpot blocks being freshly made, nuts, chilli, sweet and savory snacks the options feel endless.
The stalls are friendly and the level of hassling is low.
A must visit when in Chongqing

Ciqikou (Chinese: 磁器口; pinyin: Cíqìkǒu; lit. 'Porcelain Port') is a Subdistrict in the Shapingba District of Chongqing Municipality, People's Republic of China. It was originally called Longyin Town (simplified Chinese: 龙隐镇; traditional Chinese: 龍隱鎮; pinyin: Lóngyǐn zhèn) and was also known as Little Chongqing.
According to an old Chinese proverb: "One flagstone road, and one thousand years' Ciqikou". The name of the town can be traced back to porcelain production during the Ming (1368–1644) and Qing Dynasties. Formerly a busy port located at the lower reaches of the Jialing River, a thousand years after its foundation the town remains a symbol and microcosm of old Chongqing (Jiang Zhou).

Ciqikou for the win!
Ciqikou is the icing on the very delicious Chongqing cake 🍰. It's a must-see (taste, hear and smell, literally) when in Chongqing. There's a little bit of everything for everyone including watching not-shy-at-all Indian men sell lamb on kibbob sticks while dancing enthusiastically to very upbeat Indian music (it was a treat), foot massage, ear cleaning 🧹 👂 (Yes, you heard right 🤣) and hair braiding, which the kids will love. It's called an ancient town but somehow they manage to make it appeal to 21st century consumers without losing its original purpose. I also loved the experience of candy tasting and seeing how they make jewelry from stone. The walk through the town was an absolute delight. There was just so much to see and experience. My daughter was too happy to stumble upon a play area where she could drive cars and buy ice-cream🍨🍦. You can't go to Chongqing without stopping here.

Ciqikou Ancient Town gives you this laid-back, quiet and relaxing feeling as you stroll around the area. It is huge but there are cafes and stores inside where you can get some quick chill and rest before you continue walking around. Plus, it is picture-worthy, too! 😉#urbanexplorer #summervacation

Ancient town in Chongqing
The Ciqikou ancient town is a great place to visit on a hot day. It’s only a few minutes walk away from Ciqikou metro station.
Inside the town there are plenty of snack and drink cafés situated between the small lanes. There are lots of shops selling postcards, jewellery and spices.
We found an old shop which was selling old reading material, vases, cameras, coins e.t.c. We had to do some bargaining but we bought some vintage jewellery, old camera and even a red book translated into English. We caught a taxi which cost 18rmb from Yuzhong district. From here we visited Longquandong Taoist temple which was another 10 minute drive away, which was unfortunately closed, but had beautiful views.

Ancient Town of Chongqing - Ciqikou
When in Chongqing, Ciqikou is definitely worth a visit. It’s located to the West of the city, accessible via subway line 1. I took a didi from Guanghuan Shopping Park area, this took around 15 minutes only.
Inside the Ancient Town can be described as a maze. There are many turns you can take and each one leads down a new path. Along the way, I found a cat cafe, local food stalls and many cute stationary places. Somehow I wondered off the main path and through a stepped area where I found a tiny cafe that looked set up on someone’s garden. It was cosy and the owners were really friendly plus decent coffee.
When near the subway area of the Ancient Town, you’ll experience a more modern approach. Many food shops like in the city and delicious ice cream!
Entry costs 30rmb and you could easily spend a day here.

Ciqikou is a quite famous place in Chongqing. Constantly developing to attract tourist. It is an ancient town within a moder day city.
You can take puclic transportation to get there. The most convenient one is the light rain line 1, which takes you to Ciqikou station (瓷器口站). There are also some bus stations close by.
Ciqikou was first built during the Song Dynasty, and became prosperous during the Republican Period. Located next to the Jialing River, Ciqikou was a busy and crowded port, and was also called “Little Chongqing”.
You can enjoy the local specialities, teas and also visit the Baolun temple, which is located close to the river. There is one famous smelly/sticky tofu place, where you need to line up to get the delicacy.
If you want to avoid the crowds from the main shopping street, feel free to wander around the secondary streets ad enjoy a glimps of the authentic Chongqing life.

Lost in History
Ciqikou Ancient Town is conveniently located close to central Chongqing, easily accessible by bus, car or as we used, the metro. The entrance is directly adjacent to the Metro station. As this was during Chinese New Year, it was busy when we visited, however it was still nice to see. The areas at street level were rather commercialized and catered to tourists. However, to see the older and more attractive buildings, it is advised to climb up the hill and explore the smaller alleyways and stairwells. Unfortunately, we couldn't use the entrance here because the APP is only designed to use the Chinese ID card and not foreign passports, which I thought was very inconvenient and not inclusive. After complaining and getting nowhere, we simple decided to find another entrance to gain entry. You can spend alot of time wandering around and admiring the architecture here, as well as taking photos. There are many places to eat and small quaint bars to enjoy an afternoon beer or coffee, and view the terraces below. If in Chongqing, it's definitely worth a visit. Best time to visit is late afternoon, so can catch sunset and the different lighting as the night comes in.

One of the Oldest Shopping Streets in CQ
As an ancient town in the Shapingba District of Chongqing, we had to go and check out what all the fuss was about during our visit there. This old architectural landmark has a history of around 1,000 years, and there are still sections of it that live on today that will allow you a glimpse into the past. It wsa pretty busy throughout our visit during National Week, but it was still a great place to wander through for a couple of hours, dipping into quaint little boutique shops, trying some local delicacies and snapping pictures of the picturesque buildings.
Plus, you’ll find so many places cooking up fresh chilli sauce - you can literally smell the spice in the air.

Ciqikou Ancient Town
Ciqikou ancient town is a little outside of Chongqing city centre, around a 25 minute taxi ride, but surely it's worth it to see the winding streets and colourful displayed of Chinese lanterns and umbrellas.
Grab a milk tea and browse endless shops that sell anything from shoes, traditional Chinese trinkets, snacks and unique little gems. There are also small museums and art installations to enjoy, as well as a park and as many restaurants as you can imagine!
As you head further up, you can see over the rooftops and out onto the mountains, which is very much breathtaking. Beautiful area and well worth a visit!

Founded in the 700-1000 it is hard to imagine how much history this city in China has seen. In the past it was famous for trading in porcelain and even today you can buy porcelain gifts in the shops, and, of course, tea. #merrychristmas

Summer Chongqing Tour (4 Days & 3 Nights)
Summer Chongqing Tour (4 Days & 3 Nights)
🌡️First of all, the temperature is around 38 degrees in summer in Chongqing. I went there and it was 42 degrees every day, super high temperature, really hot, pay attention to sun protection!
🚇Transportation is very convenient by subway and taxi
🏨I stayed near Hongyadong, a little distance, very affordable, disposable towels and bath towels, large bed room with balcony, kitchen, washing machine and refrigerator 120
🍲I ate air raid shelter hotpot (picture 7), the taste is good, the dishes are very fresh, but a little small, the aftertaste is a little big, I only felt spicy in my stomach at night
Chongqing Jiang Hu Cai, eaten in Ciqikou Ancient Town, the dishes are very large, also very delicious.
I ate Chongqing Xiao Mian at Bajiao Small Snack Street for 10 yuan a bowl, the taste is good, the one I ate is a little hard.
⚠️3 days are enough for Chongqing tourism
I personally think there is no need to go inside Hongyadong, just wait outside for the lights to come on and take a few photos. It is too commercialized inside, basically all the same shops
It is recommended to buy cultural and creative products at the Three Gorges Museum. There is also a good postal-themed cultural and creative shop in Ciqikou. The cultural and creative products in other places feel like Yiwu small commodities, and every shop sells the same thing
There is no need to go to Luohan Temple, it is very small, very small, just the houses are crowded together and look good. In fact, there is nothing to see. There is really no need to go there
Beichuang Cultural and Creative Park is a big minefield. There is a library inside, but if you say that there is only one small library in the whole cultural and creative park, I think it is unacceptable. I went to a coffee shop and for the first time in my life, I drank a pre-made drink at a coffee shop🥤 (the kind in a cheap plastic bottle)
Ciqikou is also a commercialized ancient town, but not particularly serious. It is still quite leisurely to walk around in it, not bad (picture 8)

Ciqikou Ancient Town: A Step Back in Time
I recently visited Ciqikou Ancient Town in Chongqing, and it was a delightful experience. Walking through the narrow, winding streets, you’re instantly transported back in time with the traditional architecture, old temples, and vibrant local culture that bring this historic town to life. The atmosphere was lively but not overwhelming, with plenty of local shops offering handcrafted goods, snacks, and teas. I particularly enjoyed sampling the street food—everything from Chongqing’s famous spicy hotpot snacks to more unique local delicacies. The blend of flavors and aromas made for a great sensory experience. If you’re a history or culture lover, the ancient tea houses and temples provide a peaceful escape from the bustling streets. Summer in Ciqikou Ancient Town, it's a bit hot
In this scorching daytime, it's so hot that it's almost smoking, yet there are still many tourists. It's both hot and bustling. Ciqikou Ancient Town is more suitable for visiting from evening to night. The ancient town buildings are adorned with LED light strips and neon lights, dazzling everyone. A meal of nine-grid hotpot would make it perfect.
Ciqikou Ancient Town, originally built during the Xianping period of Emperor Zhenzong of the Song Dynasty, was originally named 'Ci' (porcelain) due to the porcelain dock's transshipment. During the Jianwen period of the Ming Dynasty, it is said that Emperor Jianwen, Zhu Yunwen, hid in Baolun Temple in Ciqikou for several years. Later, it was renamed Lingyin Temple. There are also other historical sites, such as the private school Hanlin Academy from the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty and the Taoist temple Baoshan Palace... The ancient town has a strong sense of history.

Ciqikou Ancient Town
Located in Shapingba District, Chongqing, this tourist area preserves old streets (referred to as 'ancient towns' in China). It is about a 5-minute walk from Ciqikou Station on Metro Line 1.
The vast area is lined with souvenir shops and restaurants. There are also several hotels, and the night view is likely to be enchanting.
There are many hot pot restaurants, a specialty of Chongqing, where they heat chili peppers and other ingredients in oil and sell them in front of the store, filling the area with the aroma of hot pot.
The pathways have many stairs and slopes, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
